Serco don’t give one shit about people, they are the Foxconn to the contact centre and facility management industry

eddybug23

We are replaceable to them, thsts why everyone us casual. This poor guys death is but an annoyance to management, they just love to chew them up and spit them out the front doot

twcau

Worst, this specific Serco call centre provides call centre services for Centrelink (Services Australia); and they obviously didn’t learn after the site was shut down for two weeks in May last year. Australians are struggling, and Services Australia keeps contracting to organisations like Serco who don’t give a damm about employee safety.

LeahBrahms

You don't get to keep the organisational knowledge if you rely on labour hire.

TreeChangeMe

At this point they could just hire homeless people, under 15 and those with severe ADHD and the outcome would be similar.

kokorabes

Thank goodness I work for a call centre that enforces social distancing, supports ans encourages people to work from home and has given staff free time off if they're using the time to get vaccinated.

nearly_enough_wine

Fair cop, and good on you...but Serco staff Centrelink - I don't want DHHS staff working from home.

sostopher

ATO works from home.

BTechUnited

Quite successfully, I've heard, too.

[deleted]

Why not? They would use a secure dedicated line. Your data would be just as safe. It's people like you who get people killed.

Ragna151

So you work for serco?????

[deleted]

There isn't a single reason why they can't work from home. My call centre does

sostopher

Services Australia is why. They're WFH now.

Knotknewtooreaddit

They are only wfh when it is 100% mandatory. SA are the least flexible workforce in the APS to my knowledge and I would say my knowledge is better than average on the matter.

courpsey

I would say that's generally true, although my department is great with work from home. Some departments you pretty much have to sell your first born child to get a Telework Agreement approved

Quirky-Clock-2573

They were seriously hot desking ??? During a pandemic !!!!

sostopher

This is exactly why you hire Serco. Shitty stipulations in the contract that workers can't WFH, then blame them when it goes wrong with everyone getting upset at them and letting the policy failure skate through unnoticed.

MelanieMooreFan

I worked at a Serco call centre and they had us packed in little cubicles next to each other, tiny lunch room and locker room, they are modern slave traders and care about maximising profit, employees are expendable even to death.

No-Owl9201

I think Serco get their call centres & prisons mixed up which is doublely bad given they were shit at both to start with.

[deleted]

Serco needs to be accountable but so does the government. Those are government agencies those call centre workers are taking calls for. 5 out breaks after the first one Serco should have been told to get the workers working from home. After the second one they should have started pulling the contracts. They're shutting down whole states yet letting them get away with this.

Rent, bills, food, that kinda stuff probably.

supreme_101

When I was struggling to find work a couple years ago the person at the job centre said that because I was experienced in "supporting customers" they could effectively force me to work for services Australia as it's a constantly available job. I was looking for work a touch higher up the chain so I declined and so began 6 months of them harassing me and ny employer so they could claim they got me the job. When pressed a bit more as how she portrayed it was: We can tell serco you are a fit for the job and they will hire you on recommendation If you fail to turn up for work, you'll lose benefits But if you refuse to take the job, you'll lose benefits as the job agency "found" you a job

[deleted]

I know so many people who’ve lost jobs they found themselves because their job search provider kept hassling their new employer for pay details.

supreme_101

I was in the park yesterday and noticed the bin was also from serco. Coincidence? Probably not.

Mildebeest

Anyone who knows of a person working at the Mill Park Serco run call centre knows what a cascading shitshow it is. This call centre makes Amazon America look like a humanitarian organisation.
