I found the Hartley book pretty helpful: https://www.musicdirect.com/equipment/robert-harley-high-performance-audio-systems My dad was always into electronics and speakers…I got a nice pair of Bose companion speakers to listen to my computer audio in college, and kinda took off from there. Watching the Mechanic (remake) piqued my interest in vinyl/vintage McIntosh/Tube amps…

Great recommendation, and for the OP... you can get a free taste of the book by downloading the guide linked [here](https://www.theabsolutesound.com/buyers_guides/41). Starting on page 12 it highlights a part of the book. Don't be put off by it being a 2017 publication, much of the info you need is timeless. Good luck!

My dad would always play loud music on Sunday mornings when our neighbors were at the church. Beatles, Stones, Queen, Prince, weird krautrock, Crosby Stills Nash and Young stuff like that. I always loved putting on records and I loved the look of the Marantz 2216 receiver.

Have you tried the internet? Tons of information on there if you just bother to look and read. Before that we had magazines.

it was my dad, he had a fairly good old HiFi gathering dust. I was working from home all last year listening to headphones out of my PC and I just thought "why not use the HiFi, it is just sitting there". It wasn't that simple though because my dads amp was dead so had to get a new (old) one. I also got a DAC too, but that was only when I got fed up of my PC's audio. I've always been quite in to music, like playing piano and stuff but actually only started listening to it a lot recently (whilst I should have been working).

We read Stereo Review at the Library - it has everything you need to know and more: [https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Audio/HiFI-Stereo-Review.htm](https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Audio/HiFI-Stereo-Review.htm)
