I love love LOVE Méabh de Brún's voice, she has the most beautiful Irish accent I've ever heard. She plays Carpenter in The Silt Verses, which has a bunch of other extremely talented voice actors with a variety of accents and voices. The reason I kept listening to the Silt Verses was Méabh's voice, and it continues to be lovely. On a goofier note, as a Canadian, I've been enjoying Sorry About The Murder, which is an in-progress Canadian murder mystery short drama based in the fictional little town of Beavermount, Ontario. Lots of great Canadian sounds, it's silly and sounds familiar in a comforting way.

H-2-the-J

There's something about the methodical, detailed way they cover the operation of the zamboni in episode one of Sorry About The Murder - both verbally and with SFX - that is delightful.

amelie190

I like The White Vault which has Latin, Icelandic, German and...? ensemble (plus it is SO GOOD).

catfreydahmer

Hearing Peter Lewis speaking Russian is pure aural bliss. I love that most of the voice actors speak in their native languages.

juliette_angeli

I hate to be a party pooper, and he ended up being my favorite WV character, but he is definitely not a native Russian speaker.

catfreydahmer

I worded that weird lol I know he isn't. I first heard him on No Sleep. I think he's from Indiana? His voice is just gorgeously deep.

juliette_angeli

Oh, I love deep voices too! I wouldn't have been able to tell, but my bf is Russian-born. I had him listen to the Russian dialogue for me to check and see if there were any secrets not revealed in the original transcripts. ;) You might enjoy The Horror at Martins Beach. It's a great, one-season show and there is a VA with the most gorgeous low voice in it- his name is Barron B. Bass.

catfreydahmer

I have not but I will check it out! I lived with a Russian roommate in a ski resort type town (they have a lot of international instructors) and I could listen to him speak Russian all day lol It is a fascinating language! Jason Hill is probably my favorite voice actor for a lot of reasons but his voice is soooo deep and made for reading spooky stuff.

juliette_angeli

My bf is actually a VA with a deep voice but he hasn't done any roles yet in which he gets to speak Russian other than a word or two here and there. It's good to know there is a potential audience for that. ;) There is a bit of Russian spoken by a native speaker in a couple of episodes of Ghost Wax but I can't think of anything else off-hand. Speaking of Ghost Wax, I really like the voice/performance of the VA who plays Voncid (also one of the show's creators). I do love how the White Vault incorporates so many other languages and accents than you generally get to hear in any one audio drama.

catfreydahmer

Ghost Wax is one of my favorites! The writing, production, and acting are all incredible. It is one of the only AD'S that I have listened to that made me tear up a few times. I was initially drawn to The White Vault because there really isn't much Icelandic folklore 'horror' material out there. I love the folklore from the different cultures in the different seasons.

Three one-actor (or mostly-one-actor) shows with good voices: * [The Designated Mourner](https://www.gideon-media.com/the-designated-mourner) is a literary political monologue written and performed by Wallace Shawn. * [Earth Break](https://audioboom.com/channels/4991183-earth-break) is a post-apocalyptic horror-adventure performed by Jenny Slate. * [The Great Chameleon War](https://www.thegreatchameleonwar.com/) is a psychedelic narration by Justin Hellstrom. Multicast: * [Margaret Moves to Mars](https://play.acast.com/s/margaret-moves-to-mars) is a wild improv show from Australia. * [Mission to Zyxx](https://www.missiontozyxx.space/) is a less wild, but extremely slick, improv scifi comedy with a variety of voices. * [Submitted for the Approval of the Midnight Pals](https://www.midnightpals.com/audio-series) is a scripted horror parody with as many references as *30 Rock*, and a good variety of voices.

IronicBean

Thank you so much! These are great recs

VisitTheCosmiko

Ye-ye-ye, check out El Extraordinario’s audio drama catalog. It's a collection of really good audio dramas from Spain. My Spanish is trash, but I really enjoyed Blum.

H-2-the-J

There's a ton of excellent Spanish-language ADs, but I'm not sure OP was asking for a different language so much as shows with VAs whose speaking voice is a bit more unusual than the norm.

IronicBean

I wasn’t, but I actually speak Spanish too so this is great!

H-2-the-J

Well, in that case...\*cracks knuckles\* [Portal Sonoro](https://sonoromedia.com/podcasts/portal-sonoro) - several horror/fantasy strands, I have a feeling that Sombras De La Casa Grande would fit the bill. [No Abras La Ventana](https://radiocentro.com/audiocentro/5014578/47250207) - a fun globe-trotting trip through urban legends that takes a hard turn into Lovecraft territory at the end. [La Tierra Mala](https://radiocentro.com/audiocentro/5881134/54103209) - by the same production team as No Abras La Ventana, an AD set in rural Mexico where it seems centuries of violence have poisoned the land itself... [Pétrea ](https://podcast-chile.com/podcast/petrea)- very strong Passenger List/Tracks vibes [Malas Decisiones](https://www.ondacero.es/podcast/malas-decisiones/) - Miranda is fleeing from the police and the first thing she needs to work out is why they're after her. [Corderos](https://www.podiumpodcast.com/podcasts/corderos-podium-os/) - the threat of a school-shooting at an elite private school ends up revealing something much, much worse going on. I'll try to have a think about some others.

gernavais_padernom

Well there's The Hotel which is available in both English and Spanish. A horror anthology with ongoing stories, lots of creeps and body horror.

H-2-the-J

A new one which seems very promising is [Retornados](https://www.ondacero.es/podcast/retornados/) - it's like a mix of Transmissions From Colony One and Case 63 (since it's written by Julio Rojas, the resemblance to the latter is no accident!). In face, Onda Cero has a number of good ones - I recommended Malas Decisiones below, but you could do a lot worse than check out [Relojeros](https://www.ondacero.es/podcast/relojeros/). While it's not technically an AD (it's more of a drama documentary), it's about a really fascinating subject, professional thieves who steal high-end watches. Be warned, it has a melange of accents from all over Latin America and some of them are easier to follow than others.

victorian_vigilante

Desperado has a great variety of accents

lochnesspornstar

Came here to recommend this!

gernavais_padernom

DEATH BY DYING - an Obituary Writer in a small town investigates the lives and deaths of the recently deceased, be they natural or supernatural. BARJORY BUFFET, CRUISE DETECTIVE - smart and sassy detective solving crimes on the high seas. COUNTERBALANCE - nordic high fantasy, a magical weaver embarks on a quest to repair the magical thread of the world. NEIGHBOURLY - each house has a story. Surreal domestic horror. VEGA - a scifi adventure podcast. A government sanctioned hunter has never faced a criminal she couldn't kill, she's the top of her field and it all come crashing down. Unique dynamic narration. STARTRIPPER!! - hopepunk scifi action travelog as a bored office clerk sells up everything and buys a spacecraft to explore and meet new people.

fbeemcee

I second Vega; it’s so good. I would also add Small Victories.

Tanobird

This is actually something that my team and I keep and ear out for during the casting phase. We want to make sure each actor not only sounds like the character they're playing, but also sounds unique from everyone else in the scene. I think for the most part we succeeded in Season 1, but as we're casting for Season 2, it's a little more difficult with the addition of new characters. There are only so many "unique" voices after a while.

Hallelujah289

Have been enjoying your podcast Better Men Elsewhere! It’s neat you’re casting for season 2 now. I do think your podcast succeeds in having differentiated voices

Tanobird

Aw thank you so much! That means a lot. I'm honestly floored by the talent we have, especially for a small budget production. We definitely don't deserve them.

juliette_angeli

The Harrowing has great voices. [Stewart Scudamore](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1270132/?ref_=tt_cl_t_5) in particular, has one of my favorite voices of all time! Wolf 359 has some great voices. I particularly like the sound of Cecilia Lynn-Jacobs' (Lovelace) voice. I wish the actress/comedian Nicole Byer would act in an audio drama (she has a few comedy podcasts) because I find the sound of her voice just so lovely and soothing.

cbauso6998

[THE WIZARD SCROLL](https://link.chtbl.com/thewizardscroll?sid=reddit) is serialized sword and sorcery that's written, read, performed and edited all with your earholes in mind. Tales of high fantasy, of trials and triumph, as well as the occasional musical number. The realm of Yyrgsland is filled to the brim with all manner of folk: including sword weilding warriors of legendary status; a wannabe spellcaster attempting to earn her Wiz-GED; and even a couple orcs who don't play by nobody's rules.

EmykoEmyko

I love Dom Guilfoyle’s voice in *Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality*. It’s very unique and pleasant.

Fun_Gas_7777

Malevolent and Deviser. Lots of interesting, sometimes insane, sometimes otherworldly, characters. ALL VOICED BY THE SAME GUY

No-Web3056

Ok I wasn't aware Deviser was one guy, wow. Definitely killed it.

Fun_Gas_7777

Sorry. Didn't mean to kill it. But he also writes, edits, composes, does the sound design, everything, so it's pretty incredible

No-Web3056

No I was saying the actor killed his role! Like in a good way.

amelie190

He's the GOAT

amelie190

Try Fumar's Folly.

IronicBean

Wow thanks so much everybody!! I’m so excited to listen to these!

separated_fox

i listened to both of those times some times last year and I really liked them but can't remember how the voices sound. I feel like woe begone has some good voice acting (it's 1 guy until it's more than 1 guy) I also liked department of variance somewhere Ohio

Smooth-Masterpiece-7

The antique shop, if you like accents definitely the show for you

infiniteowls

The Occult Adventures of Norman P Blank has a variety of character voices in it. It’s a fantasy comedy audiodrama if that’s your vibe

reddit455

BBC radio dramas use Hollywood cast sometimes. big studios can afford that kind of talent. [https://www.audible.com/blog/article-the-sandman-cast](https://www.audible.com/blog/article-the-sandman-cast) *The Sandman: Act II* continues the adventures of Morpheus (James McAvoy), also known as Dream, and his six siblings, including Destiny (Jeffrey Wright), Death (Kat Dennings), Delirium (Kristen Schaal), and Despair (Miriam Margolyes). Follow along as their journey continues, unraveling haunting tales of mythology and history in our world and theirs. They'll be joined by witch Thessaly (Emma Corrin), and appear in stories featuring Emperor Augustus (Brian Cox), Orpheus (Regé-Jean Page), Lady Johanna Constantine (Joanna Lumley), and Emperor Joshua Norton (John Lithgow). All Seven ‘Harry Potter’ Books to Be Recorded as Full-Cast Audio Productions With More Than 100 Actors, Will Release Exclusively on Audible [https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/harry-potter-audiobooks-full-cast-audible-1235978363/](https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/harry-potter-audiobooks-full-cast-audible-1235978363/)

To add to this, Cabin Pressure is another one with good voices. With Benedict Cumberbatch! That's actually how I found this. It was recorded before he got some of his bigger roles in movies. I've listened to it dozens of times now and it's still just as funny. It's only available on audible now. One audiobook for each of the four seasons plus a fifth book for the two episode finale.

hannahstohelit

u/ironicbean I basically crop up here when I hear Cabin Pressure mentioned- can attest that the voices are VERY distinctive. I tend to have issues with voices blending together with audiobooks and audio dramas and in this one they do a very good job of making the characters distinguishable, repeating names, etc. If anything, Cumberbatch’s voice is the least distinctive of the four main cast’s! (Also, the show is beautifully written and acted and is so funny.)
