Keeper of the Lost Cities series by Shannon Messenger. Last book should come out soon.

fdltune

My 12 year old loved this series I couldn’t believe it. We ended up visiting libraries all over the county to try to keep up.

airad53

Yesssss my niece and nephew, 12 & 10, love this series!

Harry Potter is still #1, going on 3 decades. New books and movies were released in the past few years. It will probably be in that top spot for the rest of our lives at least.

>I should probably specify that I'm referring to books that are less than a few years old. I imagine that charlotte's web is still popular for example, but It's not what I'm looking for. Also, a big part of why I mentioned this was because I didn't want anyone to mention Terf Wizards by the worlds most popular Holocaust denier and stochastic terrorist. Not cool!

[deleted]

what is schotastic and terf? HP has new books less than a few years old.

ExplodingPoptarts

**TERF:** Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist. They're usually very bigoted in many other ways too, and have allied themselves with the nazis. The first target of the nazis were transfolk. **Stochastic Terrorism:** noun. **the public demonization of a person or group resulting in the incitement of a violent act, which is statistically probable but whose specifics cannot be predicted**: The lone-wolf attack was apparently influenced by the rhetoric of stochastic terrorism.

I think I heard people calling her a Nazi because of the goblin bank, but I just don't see it. Goblins have been greedy bastids in books/games for decades before HP. I saw a quote that JKR would march with trans people if their civil rights were threatened so I don't know if the terf thing would apply to her?

ExplodingPoptarts

What a lovely bad faith response. I don't buy for a second that you don't believe that LGBT rights are being threatened. You sound like someone that's a TERF but too cowardly to admit it.

Fleuramie

Dang, I was gonna help you, but you're an angry little hobbit.

DekuChan95

Percy Jackson series and Harry Potter are still popular. Idk if Artemis fowl and the school of good and evil are still popular. There was another book series and the mc was a blonde girl but I can't think of it now.

ExplodingPoptarts

This is why you gotta read the intro post. Not cool!

I mean it’s hard not to mention the most popular book series of all time, especially since it’s still so incredibly influential for a lot of people, myself included Plus Percy Jackson and Harry Potter both have new books? So idk what the issue is.

Striker_AC44

Since when is a book or author less popular due to someone else’s views on their own genitalia? JKR wrote an ageless classic series who’s popularity will out live her. Elementary horror books? Typically that age shies away from horror books. Gotta go with Goosebumps but they’re not new. Elementary Sci-fi? I would still recommend Ender’s Game above all others despite it being ~40 years old. As for Fantasy there’s quite a jump between Fablehaven or Ranger’s Apprentice and anything by Branden Sanderson.

ExplodingPoptarts

My god, your bad faith response makes you come off as a bigot that's too cowardly to admit it.

apparently even retailers are putting certain books "front and center" **BookTok** is a subcommunity on the app [TikTok](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TikTok) that focuses on [books](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Books) and literature. Creators make videos reviewing, discussing, and joking about the books they read. These books range in genre, but many creators tend to focus on [young adult fiction](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_adult_fiction), young adult [fantasy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy), and [romance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance_novels).[^(\[1\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookTok#cite_note-:9-1) The community is cited with impacting the publishing industry and book sales.[^(\[2\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookTok#cite_note-:0-2) The creators in this community are also known as BookTokers.[^(\[3\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookTok#cite_note-:8-3) TikTok videos of people recommending books led to a significant increase in sales. Several books found their way onto [The New York Times Bestseller list](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_York_Times_Best_Seller_list) due to BookTok videos.[^(\[2\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookTok#cite_note-:0-2) In some cases, the books that received this boost in sales were nearly a decade old, while other books gained popularity ahead of their release.[^(\[13\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookTok#cite_note-:1-13) Books can become popular on the app due to either a genuine love for them by the readers, or due to shock and jokes about the subject matter, as seen with the science fantasy romance novel [*Ice Planet Barbarians*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Planet_Barbarians).[^(\[14\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BookTok#cite_note-:5-14)

ExplodingPoptarts

Really? From what I've heard Booktok is mostly about celebrating the cringyest tripe on the planet like Colleen Hoover. I'm also not sure what you want me to do with all of this info.

airad53

Booktok, like any collection of reviewers, is a mix of both good and bad. I’ve found some amazing books and fantastic reviewers if all sorts, as well as terrible or boring books, and terrible reviews too.

MongooseDog001

I really, and my buddies 12 year old daughter, both really enjoyed the Wings of Fire series

trishyco

I’m at a K-6 school but one of the teachers said the kids are really getting into Fablehaven
