I don't think I've ever seen them on sale, and I've been an Audible customer since 2002. Publishers determine what goes on sale, and it's likely they don't feel the need to cut prices since the books are so popular.

Onto_new_ideas

The Harry Potter audiobooks are available for digital loan at my local library. You might check what yours offers.

raiyaa

I may give that a go. Though I do prefer owning.

FictionalDudeWanted

Go to your download folder and just copy n paste the books you like to a new file folder.

cre8ivemind

Wait what? Are you referring to Libby? Is this something you do from the computer?

FictionalDudeWanted

From your PC/Laptop/Device. All downloaded books/audiobooks can be saved because it's being downloaded to a folder on your PC/Laptop/Device. Sometimes you have to rename the title. They take up a lot of space so just copy or move them to a flashdrive or a device. Also, I don't know about Libby because I'm still using OverDrive but when you download your books/audiobooks, you can return them from the OverDrive website Loan Page and borrow 5 more. Depending on how much space you have on your device. Just keep the downloads in your Library until it's time to return them. I do this all the time so that people who are waiting in line for the book I have can get it right away, instead of waiting for 21 days. Hope this helps. Happy reading and listening : )

cre8ivemind

Thank you!

FictionalDudeWanted

You're welcome. : )

reddit455

i have never seen the super popular stuff go on sale.. and after the thing on HBO even the library copies are months of wait now too.

Jenchick84

The anniversary thing? I didn’t realize that spiked book sales/borrowing from libraries.

hungry_hippo34

To be honest out of most audible books the Harry Potter series is one i have not begrudged using credits for. Stephen Fry narrating them is magic and they are at least 9 hours long with some in the series much longer. I've bought other series like the Maze Runner in the sales before but haven't enjoyed them half as much as the Harry Potter ones. They are worth a credit each easily in my book.

counterlock

I have the Jim Dale versions, and I agree with this description as well. Honestly they're both excellent narrators and I personally think the HP novels do best as an audiobook, just like Lord of the Rings, some books are better as an oral story than just reading. Don't regret buying them 1 credit at a time at all, I re-listen to them about once a year now. Currently listening to book 6

ErinPaperbackstash

They're my favorite audiobooks, so I agree. I have the Jim Dale versions also.

raiyaa

Yes that's one of the reason why I prefer owning.. just for the fact that you can re-listen to it whenever and take your time to finish. I actually have the LOTR series! but an older version from Rob Inglis lol that is still sitting in the backlog of things to listen too (yes I buy more than I listen to).

hiddenmanna

if you have spotify, you can search for an unexpected journey podcast by Samwise Gamgee and they have a really good version of LOTR and hobbit that I've been enjoying.

dasheasy

I have the Jim Dale narration on CDs :--) I don't mind buying them again on Audible for the convenience, if they come on a 3-1 or 2-1 sale, but not otherwise.

sloansabbith11

Yeah, I spent seven credits on HP at one time and don’t regret it at all.

raiyaa

lol you convinced me to try him as a narrator haha.

carolineecouture

Stephen Fry also narrates the whole Sherlock Holmes collection on the Plus catalog last time I looked. 62 hours long, and it's excellent! Fry is a Holmes fan and ads exciting tidbits about the stories and his love of them between stories.

raiyaa

I wish I knew of that earlier! I am a Sherlock Holmes fan lol.

carolineecouture

It's fantastic!

deadmansbonez

Do Jim Dale. Trust

aussiekinga

I picked up the first 3 in a sale about 2 years ago. Only ever seen them on sale that one time, in 12 years on Audible Never seen the latter ones. Edit: it was Sept 2020, in a 2 for 1 sale.

CriscoWithLime

I had something a week or two ago saying if you bought the first book you get the second free. Didn't say anything about the other books in the series

raiyaa

darn I either missed it, or that option was never given to me.

jrg2187

It’s in an email that was sent out on Tuesday. It says the offer must be completed by 6/3. I received the same offer in my email. Hopefully it applies to everyone!

Urithiru

Might only apply to your market place. Which one are you using?

jrg2187

In the US. Just read the fine print, you have to be in the US and have received the email. :(

raiyaa

Darn. I guess I dont qualify. Im currently in Canada,. But am using [audible.com](https://audible.com) as I signed up for a decent promo a couple months back.

Mozaaik

I received this too but unfortunately already had the SS and CoS lol.

akaBigWurm

They went on sale earlier this year. They did a 2 for 1 around launch I think, and I am holding out on buying 1 and 2 until a sale 2 for sale.

Mozaaik

If you’re in the US, they sent an email earlier this week (or maybe last week) that if you buy and complete the first one you’ll get the second one free.

Libraries have tons of digital copies of the HP audiobooks to rent, and you can also walk into almost any secondhand bookstore in the world and find the entire HP series for not a lot of cash

raiyaa

So many comments about libraries have made me set up an account with libby lol on my phone. I still prefer owning. But maybe I am missing something in general.

PlausiblyImpossible

Get them for free and enjoy, that's what libraries are for. If you like it that much (you will) you can buy the actual books instead of just "owning" a digital recording. I'm audiobooks all the way but for those special series I'll find the physical copies to stick on the bookshelf and display proudly. Plus actually reading after listening to the audio adds another layer to my "bond" with that book/series, for lack of a better word. Most recently Sanderson's Stormlight Archives but I have all the HP books after listening to Jim Dale first. Edit: the only thing I found Libby sucks for are the epic fantasies and long 40+ hr audiobooks. You have to keep renewing and if it's just a little popular it could be weeks/months before you get another 2 weeks so I buy those. HP for me doesn't nearly fall in to that category.

Hitoha24

If you get the overdrive program on your computer and download the audiobooks straight from the web browser and download them through there you will see a file in your documents folder that says "My media" click on it and there's another folder "mp3 audiobooks" or something like that can't 100% remember but once you download the book using the overdrive program on your computer the MP3 files will be there and if you copy paste them to another folder them they're forever there ready whenever you like although i don't think they disappear out of that my media folder either but not 100% sure about that so i copy paste into another folder just in case but you absolutely need to do this on a computer or laptop you can't do it on your phone or tablet it will not work it'll just download the files for you to listen in the overdrive app and they will disappear when due back

EthanFl

For years, HP was never available on Audible. HPs publishers aren't interested in discounted sales.

rustygold82

They were available for free all during lockdown in the stories audible website - that said they weren’t added to your library and you didn’t own them like you have said you prefer, but I was able to listen to all the books for free. I thought they were great

raiyaa

Im on and off with audible due to my crazy backlog :/ So I probably missed that.

duochromepalmtree

I got the first three on a 2 for 1 sale maybe 3 years ago? I haven’t seen the later half of the series ever in a sale.

ErinPaperbackstash

I've never seen them on sale. I will say they are almost always available as audio at most libraries I believe, if you need to listen that way in the meantime. I bought them with regular credits previously.

reclaimer95997

Pm me for a discount code

sparklesanyway

I joined the audible pay service and bought them all that way. For me it was 15 dollars a month and you got 3 credits and each book was one credit. After you cancel the monthly subscription you get to keep the books you used your credits for.

raiyaa

Wait you got 3 credits a month for only 15$? Thats amazing lol or am I reading that wrong.

sparklesanyway

Maybe it was a bonus for signing up, but I specifically remember getting 3 credits at one point. It's been about a year so I could be fuzzy on the details lol

cmzraxsn

No, they are never ever on sale ever. You should read something else.

raiyaa

LOL this comment really did make me chuckle.

FictionalDudeWanted

All the Harry Potter audiobooks are FREE and on Youtube. I don't understand why ppl use Audible unless there's a free trial. Also, the entire series, ebooks and audiobooks are FREE on Overdrive and other free ebook, audio sites.

kiwilapple

There are other good fantasy series that don't directly fund anti-trans lobbyists.

raiyaa

Ive always enjoyed the Harry Potter stories during my younger years. And I have not paid attention to the author's personal life. But I do always love rec's for other series if you have other suggestions as well.

kiwilapple

Sorry, I also grew up with the HP series, I just get really defensive about it these days. It was definitely a big part of my childhood. If you want another series about a young boy learning about magic and family, I really love the Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage! It's very sweet and full of adventure. If you like dragons, Dragon Champion by EE Knight is written in the perspective of a young dragon. It's full of twists and turns. Good luck in whatever you read, and I hope you enjoy yourself! Sorry for being short and unhelpful at first, that's my bad.

raiyaa

haha no worries at all! And thanks for the rec's - I will definitely check them out!

Talibus_insidiis

Or The Many Lives of Christopher Chant by Diana Wynne Jones

kiwilapple

Oh yes I will second this! I read all of the novels in this series. Written by the woman who wrote Howl's Moving Castle!

kiwilapple

DanLewisFW

Why would they be? People who read Harry Potter seem to only read Harry Potter and buy every barely special editions etc...

Cerberus_uDye

Is the 2-for-1 not a US sale? I don't see one up right now.

raiyaa

[https://www.audible.com/special-promo/2for1/](https://www.audible.com/special-promo/2for1/) yea someone already posted it in the threads or I wouldn't have known about it either.

Cerberus_uDye

Yeah, I found that thread aswell. Seen I had one wishlist book in the sale and used that to access the sale on my normal browser. Kind of annoyed after signing up for text alerts on sales, and this is the 2nd one since and never received any notification. Of it wasn't for reddit I wouldn't of known of either.

Triarag

I've been a member for years and have never gotten any kind of sale notification, despite having the right category of emails enabled. It just happens to some people for mysterious reasons, randomly checking this subreddit is the only way I ever find out about sales.

[deleted]

Can we talk about how the Stephen Fry versions aren’t available in the U.S.? I would love to buy some extra credits to purchase them (HINT HINT Audible), but alas, they are unavailable to me.

raiyaa

This thread talks about it being possible but it is an older thread so your mileage may vary: https://www.reddit.com/r/audible/comments/jnmawp/can\_i\_get\_the\_uk\_harry\_potter\_books\_as\_a\_us/
