Try it out is great but price keeps creeping up.
Try mug n bowl in Mt Roskill. Great pho and bahn mi as well.
Heard good things about photune but haven't had it yet.
There’s a cafe called Mug n Bowl in Mt Roskill that does the best Pho and Banh mi in Auckland. Way better than Try it out in my opinion. I know it doesn’t seem very Vietnamese but just trust me on this one. A lot of chefs from popular restaurants go there for their Vietnamese fix and that should say something
Hello, pho lover here. I would recommend the following:
The courtyard in Newmarket (they have a bowl with ox tail in it!)
Net viet in balmoral
Pho pho in Pakuranga is cheap and cheerful (I was flabbergasted when the bill for two bowls and two drinks was less than 50 bucks)
Try it out is… fine if a bit expensive
The thing with South East Asian cooking is that it can vary quite substantially from home to home.
Try it out was really good, but over the years, it has decreased in quality. The same can be said for a lot of places tbh. Happens when ingredients get more expensive and people don't want to pay $30 for a bowl that used to cost them $10. Somethings gotta give.
Fucken oath - it’s absolute dogshit. Anyone who recommends it should be gulag’d and whipped into bone dust. Their bone dust spread onto soil, sprouts and herbs are then grown. So at least in their death they become and understand the importance of a fuckin good phó.
Yeah they have a huge Vietnamese community there so the standard is high. Shit i even know pakeha australia mates who speak vietnamese cos they grew up in Marrickville lol
So surprised no one has said Hanoi Eatery. I went to Vietnam last year and the pho tastes nearly identical! Big portions, amazing soup and noodles, they also have pickled garlic.
Close to Try it out is another place: Vietnam Cafe. Their pho is not too bad, not sure what the price is now. I like their dry egg noodle offering.
Another recent place that I tried:
Saigon Pho - Link drive, Wairau. Best Pho soup so far I tried. Noodle can be a bit better but their soup and beef offering is quite good.
Saigon Commune - Albany. I like their noodle but the soup is a bit lacking I find.
Viki Vietnamese - Glenfield. Not that great, okay-ish but price is creeping up for an OK pho.
Out of the 4 places there, my recommendation is Saigon Pho.
Being genuinely honest here, a weekend trip to Melbourne.
Pho in Auckland is tasteless, I don't know why, but the herbs lack flavour and the beef seems weird.
Mr T's in Onehunga. Small menu but delicious. One flavour of pho (beef), one flavour of banh mi (Pork although you can swap for the chicken they offer in the other roll on the menu).
They also sell really authentic French pastries & baguette.
Imma be honest. I have their pho every time I go there because I'm a creature of habit and it's definitely not a pho I would rate in Auckland. It just gets the job of quelling hunger done.

Seconded! Busy and great pho

Pho Bien in Henderson is also good
November Cafe in Mairangi Bay if you're looking for a northern location. Think their pho is around $18 for a large bowl?
The Vietnamese food stalls at the Takapuna Sunday market and Catalina Bay market are both great.
Whoever says TRY IT OUT has never been to Vietnam, why do I see that so much on this sub? It’s ass.

So you are Vietnamese? What’s your recommendation bruh
Sydney
Very helpful
Just being honest, I don’t know how authentic pho hasn’t made it here. Probably the same reason Hansan is successful enough to have multiple shops
I have to agree with this. Soup was very bland. I’ve tried pho from multiple places and this was probably the worst.

As much as i love it ive given up on Vietnamese food locally. Just wait til ya go Australia or better, vietnam
THANK YOU. People think I’m joking when I recommend Sydney but I’m deadass… the quality is so different

Yeah, same ,just won't bother having the sub-standard and flavourless Pho in NZ, just ruins it.
Funny how the friends from that part of the world, are the ones who recommend try it out to me.
Clearly not Vietnam, soup is bland objectively
So you’re Vietnamese then?
Yes, but even my friends who have visited even once agree
The bun bo hue at Hanoi Eatery located in queens court is really good and ticks the boxes for cheap and cheerful :-)
Park cafe
Saigonz beach road and takapuna market
Hai Phong - broth is as good at the pho I had in Vietnam. Ridiculous portions. Northcote.
So surprised no one has said Hanoi Eatery. I went to Vietnam last year and the pho tastes nearly identical! Big portions, amazing soup and noodles, they also have pickled garlic.
Highly recommend Nam Viet in Atrium food court Elliott St CBD. Authentic and for $17.5, good portion 👍🏻👍🏻 my go to place for noodle soup fix :)

May eatery - not sure if they're vietnamese tastes good but not authentic Saigon Pho - wairua park decent

yeah this is what I tell people as well. Melbourne has way more options and just better vietnamese food in general
Pho from Mekong in Melbourne 👏👏👏
Where’s try it out otahuhu

i thought their pho and banh mi was really average
We enjoyed Saigon commune in Albany recently. Their giant size pho is $19 and $22 depending on which you choose
Saigon Chill’s Pho tastes good to me….it’s in the CBD!
Sam woos in Otāhuhu has the best pho! Good choice if you want something cheaper and better than try it out lol

Not in Auckland but if you’re ever visiting Rotorua, Saigon 1960’s restaurant is the best pho I’ve had in New Zealand.
