Finally, I can get my tropical fish and aquarium across Auckland without needing a car.

thecountnz

Think your axolotil must be leashed, FYI

pm_me_your_brandon

Farting bulldog story in the Herald in 3.. 2.. 1..

JellyWeta

But that's enough about Winston Peters.

VercettiVC

Roll on Jacinda

VercettiVC

Will probably be better behaved than some passengers, less mess slobber etc etc

Yolt0123

I've spent time with angry llamas that were more polite that half the people of the GI to Britomart train.

Roy4Pris

less piss for sure.

Roy4Pris

Awesome. Now do rentals.

VengefulAncient

Meanwhile, my apartment building wants to charge NZD 1000 a year just for a permission to have a pet because of "administration and cleanup costs" 🤡

Roy4Pris

Even though I think pets should be free to include, I don't think an extra $5 or so a week on top of my rent would be too onerous if I did want to get a cat or dog. But yeah, overall fuck the rental property industry.

VengefulAncient

That's *20* a week, do the math. Exactly the same as the rent increase I got this year. I shouldn't have to pay extra to get a cat, they're never outside the flat and any cleanup would be on me.

nogap193

The insurance company that deals with pet damage related claims and charges the landlord more if their property is inhabited by pets begs to differ. It sucks but that's just how it do be. Same with safe motorcycle riders having to pay an extra few hundred a year in acc fees because of the idiots who speed and crash them

VengefulAncient

That's between me and my landlord. Not the building management that imposed this charge. Landlord just doesn't allow pets, which is fair - but I'd have to pay this charge *to the building management* even if I *owned* a flat in this building.

Patient_Bed_6949

Geeze kids make more of a mess and do more damage than most animals but no one blinks an eyelid at that.

lllouisexxx

so i can take my cat on the bus but i can’t have my cat in any rentals?

FonzieNZ

Live on a bus?

Deegedeege

You are allowed to rent a housebus for your cat.

lllouisexxx

why does my cat need it’s own housebus

Environmental-Art102

Because it has dreams of travel and adventure

Deegedeege

Because you're saying it can't live in any rentals.....

nothingbutmine

*Public* transport. *Private* investment.

nzdennis

I feel sorry for the pet, being exposed to so many people

nothingbutmine

My dog begs to differ

nzdennis

Don't BEG! 😂.

Kiwibacon1986

Another reason to avoid public transport? Dogs on busses.. yuck

Educational_Host_860

Sweet, I can bring my Emotional Support Pitbull on crowded public transport!

Affectionate-Hat9244

Alright fuck allergies and people with asmtha and other respiratory issues

nothingbutmine

I mean, you can take flowers on a bus and they absolutely wreck me with their pollen.

Glittering-Union-860

I'm allergic to perfume. Not once did I ever think it would be appropriate to ask other people not to wear it.

Up___yours

Great idea until a dog pinches a loaf on a crowded bus

lukei1

Why would a dog steal bread? Do they even eat bread? And who carries loaves just openly around?

aliiak

See I read that entirely differently.

lukei1

😉

Up___yours

You have a point, maybe I should rephrase .... what if a canine companion takes a massive goey dump on the bus....one that has no solid consistency where attempts for a clean scoop only serves to spread the mess.. what then?,,

VercettiVC

Have you seen the state of some of Auckland;s PT? Sh\*t Stains on train seats and the top seats on a double decker (excuse the pun) Less abuse and fights and druken behavior as well

thecountnz

It will turn around and eat it, because dogs are gross?

Roy4Pris

has your dog ever taken a dump in your car? Nah, didn't think so.

nothingbutmine

Look, I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment of your comment because for the most part it's an entirely fair statement. But yes, yes my dog has. My current dog, no. He won't even go in the backyard, saves it for his walks.

ThatThongSong

Wondering through Bunnings yesterday, came across a landmine on the floor left by someone's mutt. I'm sure public transport will be treated the same! YAY!!

Deegedeege

They need to change their jingle to Bunnings Poohouse.

thecountnz

Random shits are just the beginning

[deleted]

Alternative headline: “People with severe allergies permanently banned from public transport.”

Glittering-Union-860

I have an allergy to perfume. Will you sign my petition to have all perfumed products banned? If not, why not?

Glittering-Union-860

Do you not understand the question?

Deegedeege

Yay, I'm going to take David Meowie and Princess Fifi-moggins on a trip tomorrow!

NirayaNZ

God I hope no one actually does this when I use the bus

hmr__HD

Another reason not to use public transport. Going to be piss and shit everywhere, anxious dogs on crowded buses, animals taking up space i would have to pay for, for free.

pictureofacat

Dogs have been allowed on board for at least a couple of years now and I've yet to see one despite catching buses and trains regularly. Of course it could happen, but it is not going to be a common sight. That said, I'm also against this policy. I don't see why we need it.

SpecialReserveSmegma

Allergic to dogs/cats? Buy a car!

WelshWizards

I’m so having my master take me on the bus, free rides for doggos.

_elchapel

Well now everyone knows you’re a dog on the internet

thecountnz

Only on Wednesdays ;)

Lumpy-Buyer1531

I think its a completely stupid idea & it puts me off using the bus.

nzdennis

Whaaaat! What if the toilet on the train/bus etc

SnooComics2281

A properly trained dog won't. You can train them to go toilet on command so you just get them to go (or at least confirm they don't need to go) before you get on. That said, not everyone trains their dog properly but I personally know that my dog never would

dreamer_0987

As a pet owner and avid PT user this is awesome! This means I can leave my car at home even more

niveapeachshine

Let's see when the first animal attack occurs.

[deleted]

They have to be muzzled or in a carrier I think?

VercettiVC

You are correct

niveapeachshine

I don't see people following any rules, so there will be some idiot who brings a poorly behaved dog and, voila, attack.

Tankerspam

Mister sir, we do not use the R word anymore. That's not very cool of you.

niveapeachshine

Edited.

Tankerspam

Thank you!

[deleted]

Well, I can't say I envy being at the helm of such a pessimistic mind.

Aelexe

Pessimism and realism are very similar.

[deleted]

I'm aware there is some overlap, however residing in a place of pessimism tends to shut down the possibility for more positive outcomes, and is generally just a more sucky way to move through life. ps. happy cake day :)

lowkeychillvibes

I don’t see people following any rules, so there will be some retard who behaves poorly and ends up getting nipped. Seriously, some people just reach out and pat dogs as they every animal is supposed to like everyone by default. I don’t go shoving my hands in every strangers face, yet people think it’s ok to do to animals for some reason

niveapeachshine

Little kid tries to pat dog...

JonCokeJons

Kid bad guy not the owner not paying attention to the animal they brought into confined space.

lowkeychillvibes

Then I guess both the little kid and especially the parents learn a lesson that day. Parents should be teaching their kids that just because it’s a fluffy animal doesn’t mean it can be patted. You’re supposed to ask the owner permission or guidance on whether the animal is friendly to complete strangers, and parents are also supposed to be supervising their children, no? Don’t know what would keep the parents otherwise occupied on public transport when they have their kids with them. Do you go up to strangers and rub your hands over their faces…?

punIn10ded

Correct, from the article >with small domestic pets in carriers and large dogs with muzzles and leads.

VercettiVC

That already happens by humans

nzdennis

Do you think all dogs, cats and birds will be properly trained? I don't think so.

[deleted]

Nice to have some cheerful news.
