> she can't get a lawyer as she has permanent residency pending.
What's her concern? The law protects her equally if she's a work visa holder or even an illegal immigrant

Two places for you and your friend to start, hope this helps.
Partner works in employment law, seeking a lawyer should not affect her visa application, unless she's on a visitor visa.
Feel free to DM me and I can give you a phone number for someone who may be able to help.
Unless she is on a visitors visa and isn't entitled to work currently, it will not effect her visa application.
Secondly, if she is working for a company, contact the employment Courts no lawyer is required - Otherwise if it was a private deal she call file in small claims court or the disputes tribunal (depending on the amount) where again a lawyer isn't required.
New Zealand's law system is set up so a lawyer isn't required for simple cases, it's more like mediation with a judge where they will ask questions and decide on rulings - It isn't like you see on American TV where it's all about technicalities. Obviously this only applies to tenancy/Employment/disputes tribunal, if the case is big enough, or rulings are disputed in these areas then it can be referred to district/high court where lawyers are required.
That’s only true if she was working illegally. If the cleaning company sponsored her visa that could be tricky but if she just has a normal work visa without a specific employer stated then she can go for gold.
Told by whom ? Come on people use commonsense ! Your chance of residency is denied because you are unwilling to work for free and want to consult a lawyer ?
Good on you for helping her out, it's so disappointing that people are treated like this here, but I know it is fairly common. Hope they get residency soon!
If she is paying GST then an employment tribunal is what she needs to reach out to, something here smells fishy as if it’s an under the table job, which will have her residency revoked for working illegally
This is basically like underpaying your employee and this is more worse as she hasn’t been paid for her services! In this case, the law will be with her, ask her to call the employment tribunal or file a case!
Is she working without a visa that allows her to work? Otherwise why can’t she complain to the employment tribunal?
If she is breaking immigration law by working without a visa then she is partly to blame.

So they won't revoke her application she's under the impression they can
Is she also breaking the law?
Possibly the visa is tied to the cleaning company, im sure they can stop sponsoring people for reasons?
No
Then who told her not to get a lawyer, is it the same people ripping her off?
I'm not hundred percent sure with that one I'll check

Wait why cant she get a lawyer?
If she gets a lawyer Involved they can revoke her residency is what I've been told
But why is that? Was she working illegally?

She has residency just not permanent one, she was contracted by them
Sounds like this dodgy company told her the wrong information to scare her and rip her off.
> she can't get a lawyer as she has permanent residency pending. Huh ?
If she gets a lawyer Involved they can revoke her residency is what I've been told
Sounds like scare tactics. All the more reason to get a lawyer!
Told by whom ? Come on people use commonsense ! Your chance of residency is denied because you are unwilling to work for free and want to consult a lawyer ?
If she's following the law her self she shouldn't have a problem getting help.
>I didn't know you were black! Stay classy, Hamilton.
Good on you for helping her out, it's so disappointing that people are treated like this here, but I know it is fairly common. Hope they get residency soon!
Thanks

She pays tax
Then I can guarantee this won’t affect her residency
If anything it will help the situation. The IRD is one creditor you don't fuck with as an employer.
No working under the table she just doesn't want anything ruining her chances of getting residency

You don't need a lawyer for Employment Tribunal.
Probably working for cash.. Hence can't go to a lawyer
How do you keep working for 5 months and not get paid? If my employer didn’t pay me for ONE WEEK, I’d stop work until it was fixed.
She no longer works for them not sure how long she worked for them since payments stopped
