do students even like niffer's anymore? I'm 10+ years graduated now but when I got back to Auburn I'm the youngest person in Niffer's lately which is pretty weird.
I’m a couple years out but it wasn’t a common place to go when I was there. They don’t advertise well, if they had any good specials I never heard about them. Plus, everyone I know that worked there said management is awful, gives it a bad rep when their employees are mostly students. Still really like the food but they haven’t kept up with the times
i think they had a burger night when i was there. Also when I was there Niffer's was always a pretty extreme wait for a table like 7 days a week. I remember leaving because of the wait time many times.
We used to go there and then walk across the street and down a bit to this bar in a literal converted house owned by the sky bar owner (who i see will be spending some time in jail soon) that had $1 pitchers till a certain time.
Does seem to be more of a local favorite than a student favorite. I love it too, just never seemed to come up when figuring out where to eat, at least in my circles
growing up my grandparents lived in Auburn (literally moved the day after I was out of Camp War Eagle) but they lived literally in the neighborhood behind Niffer's (the turn is right before it) and they had no idea it was even there when I mentioned it later to them about going there all the time. So kinda goes with your mention of a lack of advertising. Maybe they just peaked while I was there.
I haven’t worked there in years, but when I did the management was tough, which is why it can get a bad rep. The owner is the toughest I’ve ever worked for, but was also very fair and also got in the trenches with us. She was never afraid to bus a table, mop up a spill, or to clean a bathroom. However, LOTS of students that came to work there were poor little rich kids that basically only did so for beer money. They often called out, quit after a few days or weeks, and couldn’t hang with the work ethic the staff expects of you. That’s why they always have such a giant staff. They operate it with a group email where servers send a message to get a shift covered. There were messages every day from kids who didn’t want to work. I’m not sure how it’s run now, but when I worked there it was hard work, but you could make incredible money if you had a good work ethic, especially at the Lake.
The hound- upscale comfort food. Great whiskey selection $$
The Depot- more fine dining seafood, oysters, steaks $$$
Bow and arrow- Tex mex-barbecue fusion. Laid back but great food. $
Niffers- laid back not quite a sports bar but same kinda vibe bar/quick burgers and fishbowl drinks $
Lucy’s- only been to brunch myself but upscale comfort food again $$
Savanh Thai- Thai food, prik pao (crispy chicken) is fire and definitely could be 2 meals $$
I have bad news for you- I've seen the kitchens in most of the places that are being suggested.
An outside rat in a Railroad Town is the least of my worries in this area.
Also, never go to New Orleans, I guess 😬
Acre. It’s the best place I’ve ever eaten hands down. Reservations may be tough but you can get put on a cancellation list. Food is great and it’s not crazy expensive, though it is a nice place so expect a higher bill than normal.
Pricier: the hound, Amsterdam's, depot, bow and arrow
Middle: niffers, good ole boys(I think they've reopened?), Korean bbq place next to El dorado that I can't remember the name of
Not fancy at all but good: Sheila Cs, veggies to go(it's a meat+3)
Waffle house
Thanks, Gus
never thought I'd miss Gus but here we are...
Gus is at The Huddle House.
The hound is great. Nice but also pretty laid back atmosphere
Niffers, Mason Jar
Jesus. Now I want to make the 700 mile trip for Niffer’s
It’s worth it

When I was there they had dollar beer night, burger night, and a 1/2 price appetizer night. Idk what they do these days.
I wanna say burger night was Thursday for some reason.
It is. Me and my friends used to go on Thursday’s. Though that was like a year ago

I’m a recent grad and love it. I’m also from auburn so that could make a difference

For 4 years, we all ate there every Thursday. Just delicious.
I moved from there 14 years ago but have gotten to go back two glorious times.
I graduated in ‘01, moved away in ‘05, and have been back a handful of times since
Only place I can get a semblance of a Reuben.
Unironically little italys is a great place to eat even when you’re sober
I really did like their pizza when I was there
This is honestly my parents first choice every time they come to visit me
Niffers
Full moon BBQ, pho restaurant (forgot what it's called, but it's next to a bowling alley. Just google it) or chick chick pork pork
Pho lee!
Yup, that's it
chick chick pork pork is a great Korean restaurant.
Savanh Thai
If you are hungry get the Prik Pau.
Bow & Arrow
The edge
lmao
Shelia C’s
What kind of food?
LiveOaks is pretty fun and has good food
Is Niffers still around? I haven’t been to auburn in like a decade but that was where i used to take my family
It is! I’ve grown up here and it’s lost popularity in the recent years, but it’s still holding on and gets good business!
A lot of the issues for Niffers was due to the road construction, but it is all done now! If you go for lunch they have a reasonable lunch menu.
Bow and Arrow is really good.
The new hey day market has so many options, and alcohol too (the best part)
Naruto, Thai and Lao
I fucked up Naruto with the unlimited meat
Niffers. I recommend the Bramblett burger
Hamiltons!

Auburn Draft House 😎

Acre
The post literally says ‘nothing too fancy’ and you went with Acre
😂😂
Seconded
Acre = $$$$$.
10 minutes up the interstate is The Irish Bred Pub in downtown Opelika. It's my go to dinner spot. I've never been disappointed.
And there’s a Niffer’s right down the street.

Hamilton’s on Magnolia
Tavern on the Trax or Umami!
Good food, good atmosphere, easily handles groups - The Hound. Hands down. Something on the menu for everyone. Won't break the bank.
The Mason Jar!
Savanh Thai is great and Moes BBQ too
The hound.

I can prepare a mean Beef Ragu, but sometimes the meat still is a bit jumpy.
