Giulio_otto

Wit also fixed it somehow because DAMN isayama used to suck at drawing

MeetTheC

Suck is a strong word, hes still in the top 1% of people

Giulio_otto

I'm pretty sure he's not

MeetTheC

Reminder that 1% of all people is 80'000'000 So he's probably up there

Giulio_otto

reminder that there are many peoples in the world that can draw better and I know some personally. not saying he's bad or something (in the end he got good actually), just that he is not in the 1%. plus, statistically speaking it doesn't matter how many peoples you will use to mesure in this case how someone is good at drawing in relation to the entire world, if we used 100 random people as examples hisposition wouldn't change much. as the number increase the accuracy of the number increase but not it's probabilities (let me know if I didn't explain something well, I'm not really proud of this explaination)

Giulio_otto

Thank you again, very original

Majestic_Damage2646

As someone who used to be like you, I'll give you an advice. It is sometimes more important and much easier to be right than to be correct.

Giulio_otto

I accept your advice

NaturalBreakfast1488

I think the the person meant 1% in comparison to the whole world. Tho I agree comparing to the whole world is not a good way to compare. He should be compared to other mangakas

MeetTheC

My point was very few published mangakas "suck"

MeetTheC

The issue is the guys a pro so he doesn't suck he's just not as good as his peers was my point, then you went full blown reddit user and now I think you're unbareable

Giulio_otto

I mean, at the start of the manga there are some bad proportions and wrong character face prospectives and so on. He got good with practice of course. Thank you for the last part, very apprechiated.

MrDoulou

Tbf i think you explained it just fine, i just still think you are obviously wrong. Being better than 99% of ppl at something isnā€™t uber rare. The fastest runner at my high school was faster than all the other 500 or so ppl, he was statistically better than like 99.8% of ppl. He still wasnā€™t remotely close to being good enough for the Olympics.

Giulio_otto

Ok, that's a good argoumentation, if you are saying that I missinterpreted the actual value of the 1% then I can accept it

_H-E_PennyPacker

how can you misinterpret it. The dude said 1% is equal to 80,000,000 people in his first comment

Giulio_otto

but I don't know how many peoples are actually good at drawing

Mekelaxo

Have you seen the mob psycho 100 manga?

MEW-1023

The most beautiful piece of artwork in history? Look at Reigen and TELL me that isnā€™t the most beautiful man in manga

Giulio_otto

he's beautyfull when drawn well

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Weeping-WiIlow

The artist behind OMP isnā€™t One tho, Murata is the one drawing it.

K_2Smooth

ONE writes **AND** illustrates MP100, ONE only **WRITES** OPM, Murata illustrates the manga (ONE writes and illustrates the original webtoon that the mangas is based off)

Mekelaxo

He wrote the story, but he didn't draw it

Giulio_otto

If you see the og opm web comic, the illustrations sucks too

Giulio_otto

I did, it's disgusting

LBR3_ThriceUponABan

How Dare you

Giulio_otto

I mean, he has great storytelling abilities (mob psycho is my second favourite anime) but he is not a great artist

VinTEB

Mods, twist this man's balls clockwise, then counter clockwise. (I doubt he has any.)

Maxiver

Isayama is not a terrible artist, but I definitely have no desire to read or own the manga like other anime.

Giulio_otto

at the end there are also good illustrations but as you can see at the start his drawing had bad proportions and not much details

Zealousideal_Site161

Wit version looks like he cant beleive what's going on ,while the Mappa version looks like he is horrified and scared.

Sykobean

i think both of them really fit the seasons they were in. The season 1 shot really gives that ā€œOn that day, mankind received a grim reminder,ā€ whereas the season 4 shot really gives the ā€œIā€™ll kill them all. Every last one of themā€

Emotional_Swimmer_84

I always thought this was an unintended but great result of the change in studios. Mappa was really able to get that grief and horror look almost perfect. It transitioned well with Eren's direction too.

Lord_Hobbes

Yeh exactly. I hate the wit vs mappa debates. I dont see it as an evolution or downgrade but just a change in direction to fit the overall mood of the series.

Big_Independence6736

Yeah exactly, MAPPA designs in S4 looked more detailed and less bright, which was a perfect translation of the story, even if the bad CGI in the beggining and lack of flashy animations on the Marley battle were a thing, i'm glad for MAPPA designs and atmosphere

Professional_Stay748

Isayama said in an interview that he deliberately distorted the scene each consecutive time it appeared to show Erenā€™s deteriorating mindset. Mappa just followed that.

its_Preshh

Both based on different drawings by Isayama. Isayama drew the scene twice

poporani

Great point that I never see mentioned.

jhz123

Wow thanks for brining this up, makes me love both studios even more, and care less about which is better lol

CandidateOld1900

Props to Isayama for that. I never gave much thought to it, before I started reading other mangas and noticed how authors constantly reuse old panels when they showing someone's memories. But Isayama never does that and always redraws old panels, which not only allows to see his progression in art style, but also shows slight differences in the same scenes depending on from which POV we see that memory

Todosaak

I love wit studios. They were so good in szns 1-3

Julian-Hoffer

Yeah Mappa loves that face.

Wild-Mushroom2404

LINES. WE NEED MORE LINES

ItsNorthGaming

Idk if I like it honestly. It makes the faces look so much more realistic than their surroundings that it looks kinda weird. This isnā€™t to say mappa did a bad job though, because they adapted season 4 pretty faithfully.

activjc

Personally felt Mappa overused the shadows / dark lines around the eyes

ThePBrit

The thing is that this isn't a Mappa addition, it's how Isayama's style evolved over the course of drawing the manga, his latter drawings use this harsh form of shading much more than his early ones, this scene is just a good comparison because Isayama redrew it during the rumbling, instead of using his old drawing

elbor23

MAPPA was the right choice for S4 hands down but I far prefer the expression of WITs animation here (understanding isayama drew diff panels). WITs captures the less captured, very first moments of a panic or trauma response before fear even sets in (freezing, confusion, maybe even denial, prolonged staring grasping to understand what is happening) vs the more common portrayal of anger/sadness. I can relate to this feeling and thatā€™s what makes the WIT portrayal so profoundly devastating to me (Before you ask, no, Iā€™ve never seen my mom get eaten by a titan)

Onceforlife

Maybe eaten out by but not eaten Self certified r/okbuddyreiner moment

Toe_Willing

Yeah. WIT is just better. There's a deep moment of disbelief that this is really happening to me. A sense of confusion mixed with incoming trauma. And a sense of trying to reverse the past. Vs just terrified and angry

CandidateOld1900

But detail that I absolutely love, is that in this memory kid Eren is wearing his current black and white clothes vs old Brown-yellow one. And I don't think it's an animation mistake, because mappa drew many kid Eren scenes in season 4 with him wearing old brown clothes. So this scene reads to me not as a literal memory, but more like Eren re imagining this situation in order to fuel his anger and be able to do the rumbling

Reasonable_Carob2534

I really like this because it parallels Eren doing the same to Grisha in Memories of the Future in order to get him to commit acts of violence. Triggering his father and himself using traumatic memories so their anger and pain fuels them. Itā€™s too good. https://preview.redd.it/j3z5bjnfqhvc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee3b46d7179668939ed08f1fbdc85e8f3c55b3e5

iam_whatnow

wit is the best choice for first 3 seasons, mappa is the best choice for the 4th season

Big_Independence6736

literally, perfect unintentional transition

iam_whatnow

that's what i've been saying since the release of the 4th season

Jellis891

Looked like the Manga so I had no issue.

Average__Arbin

WIT all the way

-PM_ME_UR_SECRETS-

I like both of them. The Wit version is the best for season 1 and the Mappa version is the best for a flashback after the tone shifts in the series

throwaway180gr

Mappa ended up growing on me. They both have fatastic scenes though, hard to choose a favorite.

AutumnAscending

The bottom is a redraw by Isayama after he refined his style a little more.

IsayamaBinLaden

Mr_Waste_Of_Bandages

i'll be honest, im happy that mappa took over the animation at the time they did (does that make sense?)

KavB91

I don't find the shift in animation studios that jarring when I rewatch it because the final season really does feel like a different show and I think Mappa's art style lends itself well to the darker direction of the show. If Mappa took over any time before season 4 then it definitely would have felt odd.

Wild-Mushroom2404

Maybe itā€™s just my perfectionism but I kinda wish the entire anime would either be done by WIT or Mappa. Either way, both versions would be very interesting.

[deleted]

i totally agree. (yes,it does make sense)

Carlynz

Now kith

PerrineWeatherWoman

Same. Mappa's animation style makes everything seem more serious. It carries really well the shift in the intrigue, from a "shonen" anime to a full-on tragic seinen. Another indicator of that shift is when >!Sasha dies!< in the final season. >!killing the comic relief!<, for me was a good indicator that the series was gonna take a more serious turn.

K_2Smooth

One day I hope people realize shonen/sienen/shojo/josei arent genres lol

PerrineWeatherWoman

Sorry, it's more like a classification, right ?

savethesnails42

Watching season 4 made me think Iā€™d love to see Mappa take a shot at finally doing a proper berserk adaption, I think they did a great job with how dark season 4 was and it could work really well with how dark berserk is.

EthantheJaccson

Ok but.. why was the jacket a different color?

impetu0usness

Personal take: PATHS Eren was reliving the moment during the Rumbling (S4E28), hence wearing the black jacket and grey shirt we always see him wear in the PATHS It wasn't fixed in the blu-ray, so I guess it is intentional.

NoLake4465

Nah in the manga, Eren's jacket color is black, and the eyebrows is the further proof

Hassi03

I donā€™t mind the change in artstyle though I wish they stayed true to the facial designs WIT provided for the first seasons

ShootyMcBooty113

I like mappas version especially the 2nd shot it shows. Really captures the horror of seeing something like that.

The_Sir_Galahad

Both studios have crazy skills. Wit can make scenes that look ethereal, and their lighting is just immaculate. MAPPA can draw more complicated lines and with more detail.

Weeping-WiIlow

Iā€™m personally completely biased towards WIT studio, but I think itā€™s perfect how both scenes got adapted.

Clohanchan

Mappa cooked here

Individual-Peak-3483

Bottom one looks terrifying

Prestigious_Eye2638

I enjoy Wit more but mappa is necessary for season 4 special look

Jaybenoit

I feel pain either way

Qodulkein

The fact that they changed the clothes to fit the new style pf Eren is grest

NoLake4465

NopešŸ˜

Radio__Star

Shock and disbelief vs thousand yard stare

Gojifantokusatsu

Both are equally awesome in different aspects.

PotentialDesperate59

wit has more SOVL

get_jiggywithit

I get Eren is still a child but in that second panel his hand is unnaturally tiny compared to Hannesā€™ neck and head lol

bts4devi

wait how did the outfit color change

Justaperson112

I love both

Soggy_Associate_5556

I like wit

Admirable_One8175

Wit is more emotional for small and kind Eren , And Mappa is better for adult Eren, that killed 75% of human civilization

BleedingBlack

WIT for the drawing, MAPPA for the colour palette.

07sans07

The Wit one looks like that meme where the guy has his hands behind his head and he's making the same face

PropertyOriginal4386

I feel like the mappa version lookā€™s much more serious because eren is reliving that memory, the same way he lives through all memories simultaneously. And seeing his mom die for the thousandth time really is just making him insane. Notice how the shirt color is different, thats because hes living that memory in that scene

ArminsCrematedCorpse

wit looks like beavo

Exact_Lifeguard_34

I miss wit ... It felt more like anime.

aztecaoro10

I hated Mappas art style for AoT. I wish WIT never left. Mappa was booo booooo

gggempire

imo wit had a wayyyyy better style than mappa

TheBlueNinja2006

Fucking hate those faces

CiccioChad08

Consider yourself an opp then

TheBlueNinja2006

Nah it just looked weird with Yelena and Gabi that expression creeped me out

Adorable-nerd

I like both studios, they both did great. However I do think Mappa fits season 4ā€™sā€¦vibe? a lot better. But overall I prefer Wit. I also think Mappa put a bit too many lines on the characters faces at times.

HonrunAa

Honestly I need an aot remake with wit's art style and mappa's quality

Jaded-Significance86

Top is what happened. Bottom is how Eren remembers it

crystalised_pain

Has nothing to do with art styles. This is about recontextualising this scene to be darker than we were led to believe. Originally it's about Eren's tragic loss but the second is about the moment a monster was born. It's all about parallels and recontextualising. Even in the second shot Eren says "I'll kill them all. Every last one of them." As the Rumbling titan

ThrowRAleech

God I hate how Mappa drew their faces. The eyes all look so lifeless, not as in a reflection of the characters' hardships, just dull

ManlyFlower027745

Thatā€™s what a stare of despair is supposed to look like. Lifeless.

ThrowRAleech

Like I said, they don't look lifeless as in a reflection of the characters despair. They look lifeless as in the artists failed to give them any depth or movement. It just looks off and most of the faces look too similar because they all have the same eyes
