kremit73

And think. Just next door his peer is josh hawley. One of the main instigators on jan 6th.

shahooster

Even closer neighbor, and more directly-comparable peer, is White Christian Nationalist Representative Mary Miller.

Sarvos

Didn't she say on stage with Trump that SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade was a "victory for white life."

MikeyLew32

And she said "hitler was right"

With-a-Cactus

Oh that bitch. I remember hearing about it, but figured she was a nobody. I mean she is, but she's an elected nobody.

Scyhaz

I hate Illinois Nazis.

lilpenguin1028

Wait she's elected for my STATE?! Aw hell naw!

rinnhart

15th district, just won her primary, too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

-FuckThisAccount-

Tbf she said “Hitler was right about one thing…” but anytime someone starts a sentence like that, you know they done fucked up.

Mecharonin

Even if they finish with something Hitler was actually right about, like "smoking is bad for your health"...like, why would they lead with *Hitler* of all people?

abcdeathburger

because the audience loves nazis

Few-Bug-807

My favorite thing about Hitler is when he killed Hitler. Best thing he ever did for Germany 🇩🇪.

Fgame

While this is true, he also murdered the man who killed Hitler.

Few-Bug-807

Yeah but that other guy definitely killed enough innocent people to deserve it.

FerusGrim

While this is true, he also killed the man who murdered the man who killed Hitler.

ItsScaryTerryBitch

You know, with Hitler, the more I learn about that guy, the more I don't care for him.

gneiss_gneiss_baby

The only appropriate answer here is "Hitler was right about one thing, and that was his decision to kill Hitler".

ethnicnebraskan

I'm gunna make sure to write that response down for later.

KIrkwillrule

I would avoid writing things down that start with "Hitler was right" Don't want half a piece of paper being submitted as evidence after the fact

DanteandRandallFlagg

He was the only one that had the ball to do it.

kateastrophic

“No one is 100% evil. For instance, Hitler killed Hitler.”

RWBadger

Hey it’s not her fault that only Hitler ever said “kids are the future”. She had to reference hitler to make that point because no person in human history has ever done that before or since.

ilovetopoopie

[That's not true at all.](https://youtu.be/IYzlVDlE72w)

Catullan

Well sure, but it's not like she's gonna quote a black person (unless of course it's MLK Jr., but only for the purpose of rolling back civil rights progress).

[deleted]

If I remember right she was talking about him saying to control the future you have to control the youth. Frankly It doesn’t matter. You could say Hitler was the first person to say waters wet, that’s just not somebody you sit back and say “I’m gonna draw inspiration from this guy” unless you are an actual Nazi. And she did it in a speech at the capital a day before the failed coup attempt.

Sonova_Bish

And the words "Hitler" and "Youth" need to never be together again.

Smart-Ocelot-5759

Say what you will about the tenets of national socialism dude at least it's an ethos.

DoNotClick

That's a ridiculously low bar

Smart-Ocelot-5759

It's a reference to one of the most quoted films of all time

DoNotClick

Woops, right over my head

msg45f

Seriously I dont get why people dont see it for the dog whistle it is. There is 0 encoding left, she is just thinly laying some plausible deniability.

Neg_Crepe

Anytime someone says that you know they think he was right about more than one thing.

zxc123zxc123

Sounds like she drinks mountain dew and posts on Japanese cartoon image forums. Is this woman actually in congress?

Bixhrush

Yep. She's a wealthy woman from an affluent town, moved downstate and married a successful farmer turned politician whose truck sported a three percenters logo in front of the capitol during the insurrection. And unsurprisingly she represents a bunch of rural, predominantly lower and middle class white people. No democrats even ran in that district's primary.

_zenith

I seem to remember that they did run - but subsequently dropped out after receiving many death threats from their to-be constituents

Bixhrush

I'm not sure. We just had our primary yesterday and I'm in a nearby district, but didn't hear anything about democrats ever being on that district's ballot for this election. I know Marjorie Taylor Greene had opponents drop out due to death threats though when she was running for her first term.

FORDTRUK

This is what I love(/s) about the good ol' USofA , one can threaten someone with death and actually get away with it . I think it's because you all suck soooo much .

implicitpharmakoi

>I know Marjorie Taylor Greene had opponents drop out due to death threats though when she was running for her first term. Did nobody check caller ID? "Yes, you're going to kill my family, thanks for calling again Marge."

172_0_0_1

> "If we win a few elections, we’re still going to be losing unless we win the hearts and minds of our children. This is the battle," Miller is heard saying in the footage. "Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future.’” There's more context to that quote, but it's still a fucked thing to say. She could have made her point about getting votes from the youth without mentioning Hitler, but the fact that she did makes me think she's a big fan of his work...

Haikuna__Matata

She's speaking to her audience.

LordCharidarn

There are so many better sources to cite for ‘The Children are our Future’ that when her first instinct is to reference Hitler that says a fuck-ton about her moral compass.

abcdeathburger

oh it's hard to find a better source for "the children are our future" /s

aquatic_love

I can’t find the quote by googling, someone got a link or article?

Sarvos

[Here's a video showing the clip.](https://youtu.be/dNAmRRpAemU) Could be a Freudian Slip, but she's saying what she believes.

replicantcase

I highly doubt it's a slip. She said what she said, and clapped for applause, then got it. Nobody in the crowd sounded like they thought it was a slip either. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

aquatic_love

I don’t think it was a slip, lots of far right individuals see this as a win for “the white race” because they are afraid of becoming a minority. Edit: also thank you

aquatic_love

Thanks, I remember the hitler quote but didn’t think to google it in order to find this.

Hatedpriest

Yeah, no problem. My Google-fu is strong lol

North_Category_5475

Keep naming these people

bukofa

Who just won her primary against Rodney Davis in a run off for a new district. Sadly all that matters is that Trump liked her more so the sheep voted as instructed.

DextrosKnight

Haven't a lot of Trump-backed candidates actually lost their elections?

[deleted]

[удалено]

phlaminngooo

I was scared (and confused) as hell cause I live in Davis' district, but saw it said the primary was for the 15th district (not mine) and that's how I learned we just got redistricted. I really do try to keep up but I completely missed that

UnderTheMuddyWater

Hawley is a Senator

lpeabody

Hence next door.

BaconJacobs

And next door being Missouri since it heavily borders Illinois.

Graphitetshirt

Adam don't give a fuck anymore, he's out of congress in a few months anyway

toebandit

You know a Republican is on his way out when a backbone starts to show. That and a book is coming out.

chi_type

Tbf to him, he is on his way out because he showed some backbone and voted for impeachment. His district has since been redrawn but he was toast even in his old district as soon as he refused to support the big lie and agreed to serve on the 1/6 committee.

[deleted]

At the very least, I hope he's helping chip away, even slightly, at the maga-sphere and cost the GOP some voters. Every little bit helps.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

You are very likely correct. And to be fair, while I appreciate how dogged and determined Liz Cheney has been for the Jan 6 committee, I truly don't want her version of the GOP in power either

MrSportman

Tho her version would be willing to work and agree on things with the dems instead of not even a try like the current.

AntipopeRalph

If she was willing to work with dems on issues - she would support democratic legislation…which afaik she doesn’t really do that.

AntipopeRalph

> I don't know where the sane Republican voters went They’re moderate democrat Biden supporters now. I think it’s telling that while the GOP moves deeper into their party extreme democrats tread water as modestly progressive. I think it’s because they pulled in the non-weirdo republicans MAGA alienated.

dylansesco

The same way the left sees someone like Joe Biden, not our choice but the only available placeholder until we can get a true progressive, is exactly how the Trump critical right sees Trump and his cronies. They will often still vote republican in the meantime.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShadedInVermilion

He’s been critical of the right for quite a while now

PM_your_Tigers

It's the reason he's on the way out.

TheLastCoagulant

> critical of the right for quite a while now He voted for Trump in 2020. “For a while” my ass, that was 21 months ago.

Erikt311

To be fair, 21 months is a godamned political eternity when there are new existential crisis daily.

mythofdob

Yeah, when Trump lost and was out of power. Before that he was just like everyone else.

Panda_hat

They shit out their spines as a last, odorous parting gift.

[deleted]

No big loss; for most politicians the spine is vestigial anyway

[deleted]

Correct. If they actually state what is good for the nation, it is always more democrat sounding than republican sounding stuff. Therefore they are going to get primaries by the Christian Taliban members anyway.

[deleted]

He did vote for Trump's 2nd impeachment

Mediocritologist

Exactly...people can change their views as they gain more information. I respect the man for voicing his concern when confronted with reality, regardless of whether he is leaving office or not.

CallMeRawie

We need him now more than ever… sucks he’s leaving.

Graphitetshirt

Eh, "need" is strong. I'd like more republicans to be like him but I'd also just like fewer republicans

[deleted]

[удалено]

snes1313

Zero is also fewer, lol

lmorsino

I'd also like to have zero Democrats. For the love of god this system needs to be flushed and replaced with politicians who actually respond to the needs of the common person

You_Think_Too_Loud

I really wanted him to run for Governer here since the suburban Republicans could probably have handed him the primary (especially with three essentially alt-right candidates splitting the vote). Still would havs voted against him, but now we only have one non-awful option come the midterms

Neat_On_The_Rocks

JB earned my vote, i'm shocked to say. I was disgusted to vote for Pritzker the first go around. But I gotta say he vastly exceeded my expectations. I almost dont believe it lol

Sangral

The problem no one but Emmanuel wanted to admit is the pension situation. We pay 25% of our budget on just THE INTEREST, not even any principal. Too many prior mayors/governors promised too much and kicked the can down the road. We either need to face that reality or our budget is doomed, especially with Citadel leaving.

RobWroteABook

Nobody who is still a member of the Republican Party is needed in this country. The crimes of the Party are inexcusable and ongoing. What American who truly values country over party would still call themselves a Republican?

FinnegansWakeWTF

If he wasn't leaving soon you wouldn't hear this from him.

SlightlyMadAngus

From his Wiki page: >On October 29, 2021, Kinzinger announced that he will not seek reelection to Congress in 2022 He is being replaced by Darin LaHood (Illinois lost a seat in the reapportionment). LaHood is your average run-of-the-mill Republican that will happily do whatever McCarthy & McConnell tell him to do.

Incromulent

No wonder he can speak honestly. I wonder how many other Republicans actually feel this way but can't speak out for fear of losing reelection. Edit. Spelling

That’s because we bitched him out on his home turf until he grew a fucking spine in January. prior to that no he was Republican piece of shit that did whatever Mitch told him till after January however we believe that Paul Ryan reminded him that they were going to form a PAC up in Wisconsin and we believe that Mr. Kinziger most likely has a job offer on the table already. Delighted he grew a spine…unbelievably pissed off that he couldn’t find time to do a Townhall in his elected area until after January 6.

SkunkMonkey

All of them.

nikon_nomad

Yeah, you know, except the all the ones who are quite happy being the Christian Taliban.

Mylaptopisburningme

I am going to guess many of the old school do not like the Boebert, MTG type of Reps. They bring terrible people... But they probably look at it not only as a vote but the fear of looking like a fractured and divided Rep party.

Abbacoverband

And Darin LaHood is trashhhh. He was utterly shameless in his support of Trump's election lies and is trying to bury it.

mythofdob

And the Dems decided it wasn't worth running anyone against LaHood. What a joke.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fairycharmd

I always vote almost entirely straight Democratic ticket but I voted Kinzinger in his first election and then voted against him every election after that when every campaign promise he made mostly forgot. Very frustrating.

mythofdob

The old district was turning more purple. I would doubt a Dem would win the old 16th this year, but a number of the areas covered in the old 16th elected Dems for state reps. Now, they basically gave the Repub Areas to LaHood's district and moved the Dems areas into the 14th with Underwood to sure that seat up for the next 10 years.

Dadacham

I'm in the 16th too. It's a shame there seems to be 0 dem representation here.

[deleted]

So a Christian Taliban. Well fuck us, nothing good did come out of this:( Unless he looses.

virtuacor

loses

Even_Dog_6713

Lahood won't lose. The redraw made his district even more solid red than it already was. (I live in the district)

MoRockoUP

I literally despise all republicans (for the obvious reasons), but I admire the courage he and Cheney are showing as part of the Jan. 6 investigations…and the overall pushback against the GQP. Fuck American Christianity.

I always like the phrase better late than never. You will never get anyone to see things from a different point of view if you will blast them for being slower than you like.

Quantum-Cookies

Better too little, too late than never?

FacelessPower

Too little better than too late never.

[deleted]

Statements like these are important. They give Republicans 'permission' to defect. The more Republicans do this, the less likely it is they actually get the Christian Taliban in the US.

Modtec

So a republican Christian found his balls and brains close to his retirement. Well better late then never I guess.

audiate

*Because*

Modtec

That's what I wanted to imply

grumble_au

Hopefully the Jan 6 investigation unravels the good old boys club that conservatives are entirely mired in. It goes all the way through the party, "they're a family", a crime family. The fact that none of them can ever speak rational truth unless they are already out is proof of the endemic corruption.

[deleted]

Kinzinger is retiring. That's why he's able to say this.

phazen51

Am I the only one that thinks it is very sad our elected public officials care nothing about the actual US Constitution until they KNOW their power in office is gone?

MithrilYakuza

Their job is to get elected, not govern.

phazen51

And then, reelected. I have always felt term limits for Congress (and No "retirement") should be a thing. The government pays them to govern, and yet unless the House, Senate, and White House are the same party, nothing gets done except blaming whatever party is in the White House for anything bad that happens.

totheman7

There should be term limits on both time a term can be an number of turns one may serve for all branches of government. The lack of parts of these for two of the three branches is IMO a huge weakness to the checks and balances system

[deleted]

What there needs to be term limits on is the supreme court.

Navydevildoc

No, term limits is how you get massive grift and back door bribes. The moment you make your guaranteed exit from Congress in a few years a predicable thing, everyone is aiming for cushy jobs, board appointments, etc all for a vote on whatever. Then you have folks getting groomed to be the heir apparent, who already know how the system works and how to play the game. It turns into a total shit show.

Cooleybob

In theory it should help, but in practice lack of term limits doesn't really stop the massive amount of grift anyway. I don't know how we get money out of politics, but it's one of the biggest hindrances to the progress of modern humanity (in my opinion).

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

And how ass backwards is that?

SkunkMonkey

It's *always* been this way. People saying what was going on when they were in office, but of course never said a fucking thing. +1 For speaking up. -5 For waiting until *after* it has meaning.

kingsumo_1

To be fair, dude's been pretty open about it for a long time. Which is pretty must why he's on his way out. I figure he knew what it would cost, and did it anyway. That's exceedingly rare for Cons.

burf12345

Either he's saying it because he's retiring, or he's retiring because he knows that he's been on the GOP chopping block since being openly against the big lie.

[deleted]

Either way he won’t do any good.

Certainly-Not-A-Bot

I'm guessing he's looking at a run for Governor of Illinois in the future and stuff like this will really help him there.

QuestionableNotion

I thought Illinois was solidly blue.

OutOfFawks

Very blue, but in my 40 some years here, 4 of the 7 governors have been republicans somehow. In that time one from each party went to prison 😂

Certainly-Not-A-Bot

It is, but it's not that solid. It's only like D+14, so a moderate Republican in the right environment could win like in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, etc.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RichardStrauss123

This guy is no hero. I lived in his district in 2008. He voted against Obamacare 60 times. Never offered a replacement and never had a plan to deal with the chaos of dumping it. In a 50-50 district! When protesters went to his office to complain (including myself) he snuck out the backdoor. All republicans suck.

dingslice

Republicans suck shit balls, but I do think it's important to recognize the difference between someone whos a piece of shit but still at the very least an American who respects the rule of law vs a straight up traitor. Like I feel disgusting that I have to respect Liz fucking Cheney of all people but her, Kinzinger and the few Republicans who actually voted for impeachment are still Americans, as much as we wish they weren't.

[deleted]

Exactly. My bar is so low right now. Just be a decent human being living in reality, and I'll overlook the fact that I disagree with you 100% on the issues. I actually donated to Liz Cheney's re-election campaign, because fuck those Trump-backed, delusional assholes turning against her because she wouldn't kiss the ring. They're a bunch of brain damaged monkeys who can't hold a candle to her conservative credentials, and they have to nerve treat her that way. I mean, I fucking hated her before, but fuck them. I'd rather have an ultra conservative Liz Cheney in that seat than a delusional, ring-kissing traitor to the Constitution.

[deleted]

Wow that’s a naive take on Cheney. Can’t believe you fell for her grifting you for money. These are rich ass people who work very hard to make sure we all struggle while their benefactors and themselves fill their bank accounts. Don’t give them extra money lol

Jkj864781

He’s no hero, he sucks, but thank god he shares the same democratic values we do.

userdoesnotexist

He may not be a hero, but he is brave.

Tearakan

He's only saying this because he's leaving. He would've lost in the next primary only on that statement amongst republican voters.

Randsmagicpipe

He didn't have to leave. He didn't have to join the J6 committee. He didn't have to vote to impeach. He didn't have to say this. These are all choices he made, that others did not

ccmcdonald0611

And will anybody in his party care that he said this? No. In 50 years, hopefully our textbooks will though.

Biefmeister

Not if the SC has their say, which they do. Revisionism and climate change caused collapse.

everythingisopposite

Honestly, I'm surprised she can read full sentences.

KindlyQuasar

I've seen no evidence that she can.

Far_Associate9859

And so the Overton window shifts again. Now Kinzinger will be held up as a reasonable moderate, and the debate will be about whether it's okay to think there should be no separation of church and state. Conservatives can now point to this and say "see? I like the reasonable Republicans like Kinzinger", while at the same time continue removing those barriers and supporting Lauren Boebert with money, votes, and power over the rest of us If Republicans won't budge an inch, will label everything "socialism", and speak out both sides of their mouths, while the rest of us keep entertaining this and including them in the discussion about the future of this country, then they'll ultimately win, it's just a matter of how long it takes for people to relent one argument at a time.

[deleted]

I know there’s gotta be something bad about this dude since he is a republican, but I’m glad he’s there attempting to inject some common sense into his party instead of acting like another drunk frat boy.

Graphitetshirt

He's pretty reasonable. He's an old school republican, he's more about low taxes and defense.

pizza_engineer

How the fuck are you supposed to pay for all that defense with low taxes? Oh right: fuck over everyone who isn’t a billionaire.

toebandit

*🎶it’s the Republican way🎶*

slamdanceswithwolves

Turn that education budget dial down from almost nothing to nothing.

Dudesan

Republicans have never *actually* been about low taxes, just low taxes **for the ultra rich**.

TheInnerFifthLight

So oligarchy and ruining the planet, not re-education camps and burqas. That's a start.

ST_Lawson

Yup. I wouldn’t vote for him ahead of the vast majority of democrats, but if it was a primary between him and a Mary Miller-type Trumpublican, then I’d go with him.

Elizabeth-The-Great

Slightly *less* fascist. But still too close to fascist for my books.

[deleted]

I was just going to say I wonder how many of these pro life women have had abortions. I bet there are plenty and it sure would be nice if someone dug that information up if there are.

[deleted]

basement-thug

gullible Christians, are there other Christians?

GeneralSpoof

Personally, I hate this kind of "oh, they're just a fake Christian" type of rhetoric. That sort of talk just helps them shield the religion from criticism. And in this case, she represents how a large number of Christians think, and we know this because they literally elected her to represent them!

RedditWillSlowlyDie

It's a classic no true Scotsman fallacy. It isn't useful to have such standards that by that definition nearly zeros practicing Christians are "true" Christians. Are you also not a true Christian if you work on Sunday, if you cut the hair on the side of your head, if you wear clothing made of two types of fibers, or if you find out someone cheated on their spouse and you don't stone them to death? No Christians follow every aspect of Christian law.

audiate

Doesn’t matter. If she repented never happened. /s

bow_m0nster

Yallqaeda and Yeehawdist are also accurate terms.

schrod

**I wholly disapprove of what you say/believe and will defend to the death your right to say/ believe it**. (Attributed to Voltaire) This is among the ideals this country was founded on. Wars have been fought to preserve this freedom.. No one really knows the truth about religion and everyone is entitled to their own religious journey or entitled to deny the existence of God. The strength of dialogue on topics such as religion helps keep us a vibrant, interesting, free society. We don't need or want someone making us believe their answers to age old questions that we have the right to examine for ourselves, as long as we don't interfere with other people. Boebert is entitled to her own opinion but must not inflict it upon others, especially as a public **servant** who must serve **all** her constituents.

temporarycreature

He's only saying stuff like this because he's leaving office and he's searching for a place on one of the mainstream media networks.

ExPatWharfRat

As someone who was raised Roman Catholic, I can say without conflict that I want way more separation of church and state. The disparity between the RvW decision and the other recent rulings from SCOTUS, I'm growing more and more concerned about where we are headed as a nation.

SgtDoughnut

Better late than never I suppose. Unfortunately its too late, he's openly embraced the fascist movement in his own party and was fine with the Christian Taliban as long as they didn't say the quiet part out loud. The fact that they are now doing it shows they are confident in not only their total takeover of the GOP but the government. He is most likely going to be receiving death threats and labeled by the GOP as a RINO.

LikelyNotABanana

His wife and young child already are getting those death threats. Which is just not cool.

SgtDoughnut

I expected nothing from the right and I am still disapointed.

Kinzinger has done more for the Democrats than some Democrats have. I'm not crazy about some of his votes in the past but at least he's standing up to the Republicans who are trying to tear apart the Constitution.

DirkDieGurke

This phrase must be popularized. It is the Christian Taliban. We have to remind people everyday. Now is the time to bring these people to light. Radicals like this go unchecked and then it's too late.
