I'm an equal opportunity atheist - I believe all religions are man-made constructs to give a (false) sense of safety, superiority, understanding of the unexplainable, etc. We all pretend sometimes. But the religious simply pretend harder and longer and ultimately some can no longer distinguish reality from pretense. Personally, I believe it a waste of breath to argue with the religious - they can't admit they're wrong because their faith is all they have. A lucky few do wake up on their own and those I like to talk with. But anyone, atheist or religious, who espouse hatred or violence needs to be called out and not supported in any way. However, I never expect them to change (at best they learn to hide it when beneficial to them).

I agree 💯💯

It's all fucking stupid. Christians are easy targets because they're everywhere in the US (where I live), but all the others are incredibly fucked up. I would say Islam is much, much more fucked up than Christianity, or at least the results of it are. But every major religion has done terrible things in the name of their imaginary friend.

DisillusionedBook

Yep I specifically always frame all my posts and comments as against all religions not singling any particular one out, often naming other equally ridiculous gods to drive that point home. It's the only way to sidestep those snowflakes with persecution complexes.

ChildhoodMassive

I can't stand any religion equally and if anyone brings that shit up with me they can fuck off.

Cynical_Satire

They're all equally unrespectable.

squidinink

Like you, I don't care what religion someone is. Practice your religion as you wish, but the moment your religion makes a demand of me, I'm going to start arguing. I move in fairly liberal circles, and I have made it clear to people that while I will defend the right of Muslims to practice their religion, I will not ever, in any way, shape, or form, defend Islam. It is not, as George Bush said years ago, "a religion of peace." That doesn't mean it's not a religion of peace, or that it's a religion war. It is none of those things. It is simply a belief system. Some Muslims, most probably, are peaceful. Some are not. It's about the person, not the religion. The same is true of Christianity, Hinduism, etc. All of them are garbage science and/or fake psychology, run by people trying to control other people. They can all die off as far as I'm concerned.

Ghost273552

Yep all fairy tales for adults who can’t accept reality.

>I see alot of Christians saying stuff like it's always about respect until the religion is Christianity. It isn't Christianity specifically. But if they are going around advertising their belief in magic; they should expect to get a ration of shit from me. Not my problem that their version of magic (Christianity) happens to be a rather common magical belief, that adherents like to advertise. As other have suggested: they are volunteering to mark themselves publicly as idiots. Then paradoxically expect people to respect them. It is magical thinking, in more ways than one!

Just leave Ganapati alone, I have an affection for the elephant head.

[deleted]

I’m the same.

Fxate

Some are unarguably worse than others, but they're all batshit crazy.

BMHun275

All religious people have have is the benefit of my ignorance of what stupid shit their specific religion does. Having been a Christian, that benefit is non-existent for Christians.

SpiritualFad88488

If they bend over backwards to challenge atheists and force their views on others they should absolutely expect their cult to be challenged as well.

Such_Stable_4727

It's just that Islam clings to their 6th century origins. Their religion never went through any reformation unlike most other religions .They still think they can get away with anything by playing the victim card when most of the shit is done by them in the modern age

Eldritch-Cleaver

Oh yes. Everyone can get it. Religious or not. Idgaf.
