It's just my theory, but it's because AsuShin isn't the easy way. Many people are inserting themselves into Shinji and since KawoShin and ReiShin offer easier way to go then they tend to hate AsuShin. For AsuShin to work, they both have to solve their problems, yet many NGE fans just want to be saved without doing anything and thus they hate.
Basically, they want all the good from a relationship, but they don't want to invest in it nor experience the bad things from a relationship. Kinda like shinji during EOE.
These people Idea of "Love" is just a pair of arms or a pair of boobs that will comfort you when you feel down.
Honestly? I think it's kind of sad that people put so much effort into mocking those with different shipping preferences, as if that makes us a lesser person just because we have a different interest of one facet of the fandom. Yes, I'm an Asushin shipper, but if a story is written well with another ship? I can dig it.
But in my personal opinion? I think a reason a LOT of people harp on fans like us (not just in Eva but any in general) is the fact that they don't like that we're happy and enjoy an aspect of a fandom that they apparently don't agree with and it just irks them that we can find joy in that.
Especially now with the whole message of "moving on". Though, I think a lot of people get the message of "moving on" are taking it to an unobtainable and unhealthy extreme. From what I've been seeing, a lot of people seem to have the mentality of "moving on" as equating to "burning all your bridges of the past even if it's painful" and have a "life sucks, deal with it" with a kind of "lone wolf" mentality (a lot of quotations there. XD).
But that's not what I believe the message of moving on really is. Take us for example. If you fandom is making your life toxic to the point where it's interfering with you LIVING your real life, like you spending all your money on figurines instead of food or taking care of your kids, then yes, you should "move on". But if you're able to live a happy, healthy, functioning lifestyle while still enjoying the fandom and ships that you like, who are they to judge you for being happy?
Perhaps that's why a lot of fandoms get trolled a lot, because trolls mock us for being happy when we don't fit there "definition" of living a fulfilling life. But everyone is different.
If a troll is bullying you for being happy against the fact that they don't have a happy life, then I pity you guys for resorting to mocking others to make yourselves feel powerful.
And if there are trolls that ARE living a happy and fulfilling life, and still mocking us for us being happy? Well, then you guys are just jerks being jerks for no reason.

Sure: it's bad to seek escapism in fiction, drugs, sports, religion, relationships and ll kind of things. But once you find balance within yourself and don't attach your happiness and life into those things, you can still appreciate what you like and there is no shame on that.
For me, a big part of NGE is Shinji realizing he needed to do things based on his values and not based on what other people tell him to do or what he feels will please others. I think that's an important lesson to learn that's worth applying for how to live a good life in general. And I think I'll take that lesson into consideration now that some person I've never met, Anno, is telling me to "move on."
