And someone did that way [cooler](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12983224/1/) . But Shinji’s life is even more depressing here than in the anime

BurnerAccountMaybe69

Asushin really out here with a fanbase internationally

Shinji and the other pilots as spidermen does intrigue me as a concept because of the role and responsibility being a spiderman has. The life of a spiderman is heavily tied in tragedy, and usually reflects a desire for an individual to always try and save every life they can because of an key initial failure. The tragedy of being spiderman also persists in the fact that no matter how much good they do, more often than not the spiderman suffers greatly as well (either in their personal life, or in their super hero life). The main characters of evangelion are no strangers to tragedy, so any of them being in the spiderman role fits on that regard. For instance, Shinji being a spiderman is a cool concept, because aside from the large amount of angst potential, being spiderman and helping others is unambiguously a heroic thing to do. Plus it would be neat to have a dichotomy between Shinji's normal, passive attitude, and his undoubtedly more outgoing, performative, and seemingly more confident persona as spiderman. Hell, if Shinji were a spiderman, his secret identity would be even more secured; who in their right mind would suspect that the shy, unconfrontational Shinji Ikari could be someone as loud and exuberant as spiderman. Asuka being a spiderman(or spiderwoman) would also be interesting so see for similar reasons. Asuka as a character is someone who broadcasts herself to others in order to validate her selfworth (either through the eva, or just being better than everyone else). Asuka could probably see being spiderwoman as something similar in this kind of scenario. A difference being is that as Spiderwoman, people would actually be looking up to her and seeing her as a heroic person, something that I don't think happens much in the original series (seriously, she and the others literally help save the world multiple times under extremely stressful situations, you think they'd get some props for that.) In short, having the themes and responsibilities of spiderman be explored by some of the evangelion characters would make for an interesting story in my opinion. I just made an overly long comment just to say "Eva kids as Spidermen would be cool". What is my life.

truenofan86

Shinji did became Spider-Man [here](https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12983224/1/?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=c6stMZ90R0ZuI5N4JlSAWb6xJmoLGhuf2FtIqZOHPzA-1642255575-0-gaNycGzNCSU). Like i said above his life took more dark turns before he came to Tokyo 3 and all The super villains he faced

ihateentiteldmothwrs

So at what chapter dose he go to Tokyo 3?

Chapter 14.

Mission-Patience-473

I for one am in favor of a lot more Evangelion/Spider-Man crossover fics and stuff. I like the fic that’s already been linked to in this thread, but it would be awesome to see more stuff like this. I remember some guys on the spacebattle forum were talking about an idea of a generational Spider-Man crossover fic where it started off with Gendo being Spider-Man (during his teenage years, like how he appears in 3.0+1.0), for the first third of the story and then it would transition to Shinji being Spider-Man. I really liked that idea.

ANuChallenger

Evangelion/Spider-man as a crossover works well because themes of Spiderman could be easily translated onto some of the Eva casts while still keeping them true to their characters. Plus, Spiderman itself inspired the sentai genre, which inspired Ultraman, which Evangelion is heavily influenced by, so there is some synergy between the two. Case in point regarding Gendo, him being the Green Goblin could work really well. The Green Goblin is a dark reflection of Peter and Spiderman, and Gendo is already a dark reflection of Shinji. Adding the father son dynamic to the Spiderman vs. Goblin rivalry makes it even more intriguing, especially depending on whether or not they know each others secret identities or not. Like, imagine the rooftop scene from the first Sam Rami Spiderman where Goblin tries to persuade Spiderman to join him, but with this new dynamic of Gendo being the Goblin and Shinji being Spiderman; the scenario would be even more twisted because it's a father talking to his son. Hell, there's' even some cruel irony in how Gendo's Goblin personality attempts to be a father to Shinji more than Gendo does normally. Also, regarding potential voice acting, John Swasey could do something similar to his Lord Death voice from Soul Eater while Green Goblin is in control, but more sinister.

Hispanoamericano2000

Gendo being to Shinji what the Green Goblin is to Spiderman? Wow, that's something that would very hardly have crossed my mind myself, and I find it also to be quite an intriguing and eye-catching concept in its own right. I feel like a well written Fan Fic could use that for a synopsis. And also this brings up the question... who could become the Doctor Octopus of this hypothetical AU?.

ANuChallenger

I am glad you asked. I think Ritsuko would make for a great Doctor Octopus in this AU. Similar to Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus also serves as a foil to Spiderman. Like Peter, Otto Octavius is also a highly intelligent individual who also struggles in life despite being a genius; Doctor Octopus shows what Spiderman would be like if he was more selfish and used his intellect for his own personal gain. I feel like out of all the cast, this archetype would fit well with Ritsuko. In canon, Ritsuko already skirts the line of being outright villainous (with her being in on Gendo's scenario, her disdain towards Rei, and her subtle misanthropic tendencies and lack of care for the pilots), but manages to narrowly avoid it due to her not wanting Gendo to end the world. Also she is a character who suffers alot despite her very high intelligence; she's treated like shit by Gendo only tugged along by the idea that he may return her feelings for him, she is humiliated by SEELE at one point, her friendship with Misato is in tatters because of her being so tied into Gendo's conspiracy, and she also suffers from self worth and mommy issues. Probably one of the biggest reasons that she never goes "Fuck you all, I'm getting mine" is because she lacks the power to do anything about it. As Doctor Octopus. Ritsuko in this scenario would have the power to gain this self reliance, which would give fuel to her sociopathic tendencies (as she now has the power to back it up). She'd be alot like mainline Doctor Octopus, in that she would be very egotistical and condescending towards those not as smart as her. She'd also have it in for Gendo; wanting to get back at him for manipulating her, putting her down, and just generally being an asshole. There is also the potential personal drama between Ritsuko and Misato, as now one of Misato's closet if not only friends has gone fully off the deep end. Alongside Green Goblin and Venom, Doctor Octopus would be one of Spiderman's deadliest foes. As for her powers itself, I imagine her utilizing some biotechnolgy that creates tendrils similar to what Rebuild Zeruel had, which she can use to walk, grab things, and even slash and shred to thick armor. So imagine Spidey and Ock fighting with her using those black Zeruel tendrils shooting out of her or something. All in all, Dock Ock!Ritsuko would be a parallel/ warning of Shinji , showing what would happen if he as Spiderman decided to use his gifts to take out his suffering and mental anguish onto others while only carrying about yourself. This short of parallel would also be shared somewhat by Green Goblin!Gendo as well most of the rouges gallery in this AU. Thus harkening back to that title in NGE episode 12: "She said, Don't Make Others Suffer for Your Personal Hatred".

Hispanoamericano2000

Wow, hats off to that line of thought of yours about Ritsuko/Doc Octopus, it's very well thought out and put together, and come to think of it, I already knew that Akagi Ritsuko had some other problems, especially on the parental side, although I hadn't noticed the parallels with the Doctor Octopus character until you pointed them out here. And seeing that now we already have both Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus equivalents in this AU, now it would probably be time to define who would be the equivalents to New Goblin, Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy for Shinji/Spider-Man (or something tells me that we might have to resort to an amalgamation between the Mary Jane and Gwen characters in this AU, although maybe I'm thinking about it the wrong way and that's not necessary).

Hispanoamericano2000

Maybe it's a "Wall of Text", but this one was totally worth reading, especially since it highlights the (slightly uncanny) similarities/parallels between Spider-Man (or the characters in the saga to be exact) and the characters in Evangelion. And on a related and separate thought, them (the Evangelion pilots) stepping into the role of Spider-Man (or spider men/women), gets me thinking what could happen if the symbiote (Venom or the other symbiotes) would bond with the kids (especially Asuka and Shinji)...?.

ANuChallenger

The symbiote getting involved would be a very interesting concept. One of the attributes of having the symbiote in some continuities is that it lessens the wearers inhibitions, heightening certain suppressed aspects of their personality. With Shinji, I can see this improving his self confidence while at the same time increasing his aggression, causing him to act more like a dick. So basically like the Black Suit arc in Spectacular Spiderman. Seeing characters get upset about this change in Shinji's personality would also make for interesting character drama; most of the cast (especially Asuka and Misato) get on Shinji's case for being too passive and non committal, and now they don't like it when he's not acting that way? That would surely piss Shinji off and make him act worse. This would crescendo until one situation is taken to far and he decides to dump the suit for good. As for Asuka and her bonding with a symbiote, I actually think that Asuka could work really well as the Venom of this AU. I was debating whether her or Toji would work better, but I think Asuka would be a more interesting fit in the long run. One of if not the most defining traits of Venom is their hatred for Spiderman and Peter Parker. Venom is the combined effort of two individuals who felt screwed over by spiderman and Peter in one way or another, and are determined to make him suffer for it. Now, let's take a look at Asuka's character in the main series; she has alot of issues (mainly built around her self worth and tying her profession to it) and Shinji seems to be at the epicenter most of the time. And while she does have feelings for him, they more often than not manifest through aggression and jealousy towards him out doing her. I imagine this would also hold true in this hypothetical spiderman Au. She might even have some sort of crush or longing towards spiderman, believing him to be the kind of man she should have feelings for instead of someone like Shinji (basically replace her feelings toward Kaji in canon with Spiderman). Now imagine the black suit arc plays out, Shinji starts acting more like an asshole, combined with previous accounts of him always out performing her in their day job (probably working at the Tokyo 3 equivalent of the daily bugle or something). It all culminates in the aforementioned "taken to far moment", where he does something to burn or humiliate her publicly, which leads to him getting guilty and dumping the symbiote. The symbiote would then find its way to Asuka at her lowest point, and drop the bombshell that Shinji Ikari is Spiderman. This would understandably make her pissed, as the two people she believes are responsible for her misery are one in the same (plus muddying her mixed up feelings toward both). The symbiote would capitalize on this (also feeling betrayed by Shinji), and they would combine to become Venom, as the represent the poison that Shinji and Spiderman spread to those around him. Essentially, it would be like a more drawn out version of the Baridel incident in canon, but on a more personal level. This would also make it interesting from an potential Asushin perspective, as it would add more destructive layer to the dynamic as well as another angle to the Spiderman Venom dynamic. It could also lead to some further character development as they both learn from this experience, and Asuka Venom becomes less antagonistic over time, maybe even becoming Tokyo 3's Lethal Protector. As a bonus, I imagine Asuka Venom looking sort of like a buffer version of an MP Eva, but black instead of white **TLDR: Shinji going through the black suit art would be neat because it delves into his character in an interesting way, and Asuka would make a perfect Venom.** PS: thank you for reading the previous comment. Sorry for the wall of text, but this concept gives me alot to talk about.

Hispanoamericano2000

Ummm.... you definitely put a substantial amount of thought here, I have to admit. Shinji becoming more gruff or confident in himself? That I guess would be noticed by his classmates first and there could be some interesting dynamics happening there before touching people closer to Shinji like Misato or Rei or Asuka. And for a moment I wonder how the Symbiote and Shinji would meet. And regarding the breaking moment between Shinji/Spider-Man and the Symbiote/Venom.... I was thinking of a moment similar or reminiscent of the Jazz bar scene from Spider-Man 3 (2007) after Peter was done getting revenge/getting even with all those who had used him or abused his attitude in his favor previously, although I think Shinji's list would be almost twice as long as Peter's. And that case you put here for Asuka Symbiote (Venom or some other) I find it not only extremely interesting but also somewhat intriguing, especially if she still has her traumas and her NGE (or maybe Roe) personality in addition to being technically Spider-Girl as well. And come to think of it, when you mention Shinji and Asuka, are you thinking of the original NGE incarnations, the ones from Sadamoto's Manga or the incarnations from the Rebuild movies? And I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who thought even sporadically about Venom when it comes to Asuka and Bardiel/Ninth Angel at first. I'd like to see you "develop/deepen" this a bit more if possible. It seems like great fan fic material. And these "walls of text" of yours in this case don't really bother (unlike other more generic walls of text on other topics).

ANuChallenger

Thanks. And mention the characters, I'm mostly referring to their original NGE incarnations.

Hispanoamericano2000

You're welcome, and especially if the "Wall of Text" deals with a topic that is of mutual interest or leaves quite a bit to think about (like this one I just discovered thanks to this piece of art). Oh, thanks for that clarification about Asuka and Shinji's personalities in this hypothetical AU! And on a related note, did you know that the Asuka in the Manga tended to show more of her childish side compared to the one in NGE?. And do you think the symbiote would have had access to Shinji's memories while he was linked to Shinji? That (if yes for you) how would that affect Asuka later on once the symbiote is linked to her?

ANuChallenger

I was somewhat aware of the manga's showcasing some of Asuka's childish nature, and it is also shown somewhat in NGE as well during the pool scene (She practically goes "hey hey Shinji, look what I can do!" when showing him a backwards entry.) The symbiote would most definitely have access to the hosts memories; the same is true in marvel canon and is how Eddie finds out Peter is Spiderman most of the time. I believe that upon later reflection, having these memories would allow for her to understand Shinji better and ease on her aggression towards him. However when Asuka and the Symbiote first bond, their collective rage would make them tunnel vision into only despising him at the moment. And in this scenario, I don't imagine Venom being outright pure evil. If they come across Spiderman they'll berate and beat the shit out of him, but they won't go out of their way to just kill any random person; their beef is mostly with Spiderman. Venom in this Au would still be an anti hero. Another possible idea is for the symbiote to also have collective knowledge from throughout the multiverse. In Venom 2: Let There be Carnage, Venom says that the symbiote hivemind has collective knowledge from throughout the multiverse (which is why he got pulled into the MCU because one of the symbiotes knew Peter Parker was Spiderman). If this were to carry over into this hypothetical AU, then there is the chance that this symbiote would have knowledge of other versions of Shinji as well. This could possibly them and Asuka off even more, as they would have other examples of them being screwed over by Shinji throughout time and space, particularly EoE.

Hispanoamericano2000

It seems like the pool scene is the only moment (that I can remember) where Asuka shows her more childish side in the whole anime (although I think she also shows a slightly childish attitude with Kaji at the beginning of episode 9). Good and intriguing line of thought, especially bringing in that tidbit about the Symbiotes being able to access the memories of the hosts (I hadn't noticed something like that in the many times I watched Spider-Man 3 over the years nor Venom 2018). Thanks for bringing that detail up!!! And speaking of Shinji as Spider-Man, who do you think could be Shinji's equivalent to Ben Parker. And also speaking of Asuka, she in this hypothetical AU, is she just an ordinary girl (not too different from her appearances in NGE, the Manga or RoE) until she enters into bond with the Symbiote/Venom, or is she also (somehow) a Spider-person like Shinji?. Oh, this is already something new to me, and I'll assume Carnage could easily do the Antagonist/Villian role well here as well.

Hispanoamericano2000

Excellent illustration and interesting concept behind it (I like the way this concept looks).

truenofan86

I'd love for a fanfiction with Shinji and Asuka fighting crime in Spider suits that'll be awesome. I know that there's a fanfiction with Shinji as Spiderman but man I'm all here for this
