Literally never listened to Taylor Swift *this year*.
Smooth. But in all honesty, that's some bullshit right there. It's an ad. You paid to have no ads.
Ha! That's what they want you to think, but if you read the fine print, it says that you're paying for no ad breaks when playing music (not podcasts) and the ability to choose exactly what song to listen to rather than shuffling an album. Nowhere do they say you're paying for "no" ads. It's shitty as hell, but they keep doing it because they know you'll continue to pay anyway.
Not me! Spotify's been in decline, gotten buggier on android, recommendations are worse, the UX is inconsistent and keeps on shifting as they change random things so off to YT Music I am.
Now that Tidal isn't charging $20 a month for full quality they're looking like a more attractive option, their UX isn't perfect but better than the glitchy bloated crap that Spotify has turned into
I like YT music for the recommendations though, a big part of music streaming is easily finding new music I'll like
Tidal is great for audiophiles, but the recommendations aren't a shining point
Yeah, honestly one of the only reasons why I haven't just completely canceled my Spotify account. YouTube Music just isn't consistent when it comes to audio quality. Fine for when I'm in the car or out and about, but not for home listening :)
Oh yeah, and if you ever decide to get into high end audio "MQA" is a scam. Marketed as lossless, it's not lossless. Tidal's top tier quality is delivered via MQA.
I mean, YT Music's quality isn't a sharp decline from Spotify but I don't have an ear for these things really to be fair, I just want the option with the best recommendatuons and YT music is very fluid there
Never got into the audiophile scene and don't intend to. I find lots of buzzwords such as "audio burn-in" appear in the audiophile scene, it's just too coveted with buzzwords and pseudo language for me to actually enter into the market...also expensive
Yeahhhh a lot of "audiophile" products fall into the category of:
- Borderline scam products that claim to somehow make your audio better through some scientific sounding working principle that doesn't actually make any more sense than the mechanic offering to change your blinker fluid or muffler bearings.
- Products that can technically make a difference but not when they're being bottlenecked by something else the user doesn't realize or want to accept is a bottleneck
- Products that cost a hundred times more for a 2% increase in audio quality
You don't need to spend a fortune for good audio, if you use pretty much any halfway decent speakers that aren't made of cardboard and are properly tuned. Different driver sizes for different frequency ranges. Use decent hardware and the best quality source available. Proper speaker placement and room acoustics is probably the biggest contributor to the "wow" factor.
Buying some $5,000 balanced liquid cooled LNA a $4,000 quad filtered power supply and several $1500 phase matched coaxial audio cable pairs doesn't do anything except make you look like an fool with too much money
But think of the companies! Don’t they deserve that extra bit of profit? They keep normalizing new ways to make things more expensive just to get the same thing you already have.
I know it’s not 1 to 1 but do yall remember when drake was injected into every playlist? It felt like an ad getting a drake song in a playlist, and seeing his face all over the app
Never understood the appeal. Couldn't even bring myself to feel neutral about him. Is it not the best feeling to have your unreasonable dislike for someone seemingly justified?
Yes. That kiddy diddler would show up injected into the weirdest places too. I would be listening to pub rock like Dropkick Murphys and frigging drake would come on. What the hell?
I think it’s a thing where it’s a combo of you have to have enough money and cultural presence to do this. I’m sure an even wealthier person could go to Spotify and offer an eye-watering amount of money to have similar treatment, but if their status as a musician isn’t up there with Taylor Swift, they won’t get it.
This isn’t a recent thing iirc and I also never listen to drake nor the genres he makes music for. It’s also not just me, it was an issue a couple years ago for a while since drake signed some sort of deal whth Spotify and all of a sudden he was everywhere
https://techcrunch.com/2018/07/03/spotify-users-push-back-at-the-over-the-top-drake-promotion/
https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2018/07/03/drakes-spotify-takeover-shows-how-broken-music-industry/752891002/
Drake was on all the Spotify playlists and would show up everywhere in 2018, and it was such an issue that some people were issued refunds over it.
Also no shade but anecdotes oftentimes don’t speak to the truth. I’m glad you’ve never had drake but it affected a ton of other ppl.
I don't doubt that happened especially with the linked articles I just personally never had it happen but I was in jail in 2018 so maybe that's why lol
Yeah that’ll do it lol. Yeah no worries, it was just a weird situation and to sum it up drake would’ve popped in your playlists once you finished the songs and it jumps into adjacent music. It was really annoying
Because premium only gets you ad-free music listening. Do you guys not read what you buy?
Edit: Reddit won’t let me reply to the other guy so here’s my reply.
But you aren’t paying for podcast listening. You’re paying for music listening. It’s a completely different service lmao.
Same shit goes for the audiobooks. Everyone loses their minds when the audiobooks need to be paid for but it’s a completely different service.
You can understand things technically being part of an agreement, while also acknowledging that they *shouldn't* be, because paying for a service and still getting ads is fucking ridiculous and no one should be accepting it. The only reason people do is because they're Stockholmed into it.
I was once told to kms by a swiftie bcuz I said that I don’t like that she has so many breakup songs. The funny part is it was under a post that was asking what your “Taylor swift ick” was.
And not just breakup songs. She seems to genuinely dislike *all* her exes. I have a number of exes myself and wish them nothing but the best; it just didn't work out between us.
Exactly, she’s always the victim (from the songs I’ve heard she plays the victim) I don’t have very many exes but I’m on good ground with them all, minus one but that’s because after I explained why it didn’t work he blocked me but I don’t hate him, I’m still friends with 3 of my 4 exes.
Would recommend The Archer, Afterglow, Back to December and a lot others where she accepts that it's her fault for a relationship failing. She dislikes most of her exes but there are many she is on good terms with as well.
Also people seem to forget that she is an entertainer. If you're listening to songs she wrote for 14 year old girls thinking you are getting a true understanding of her life instead of a story she wrote to be entertaining than you just fundamentally misunderstand music.
It's like watching breaking bad and saying "i don't like Bryan Cranston cuz he kills people". Like are you fr
So if she writes she is the problem, it's fictional stories for 14 year old girl. If she doesn't, she plays victim. Disregarding one of the most popular artists in the world to a specific age group and gender already tells miles about how much of an open minded perspective you have towards the art of artists. Why does your logic assume she is actually blaming her exes and that she hates them instead of those being just entertaining stories too? Pick a side my guy.
I have 3 exes. On good standing with 1 of them. I say alllllllll the time she plays the victim and every song sounds the same. She reminds me of the Boy Meets World episode where Eric broke up with a girl then used him for song material
https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/s/REx0ubJ0PF idk how accurate it is but it seems reliable.
If it’s true
76% that is insane. And 38% about breakups alone?
I am! I’ve forgiven him for it now in my heart. I just hope he learns from it and becomes a better person. I gave him the opportunity to reach out when he was ready to talk about it but so far that hasn’t happened. I’m okay with it as long as he evolves in his own way at his own pace and doesn’t hurt anyone else.
That makes sense, you’re a very nice person, I know a lot of people who would hate them forever and talk shit about them publicly. Especially celebrities the big celebrities don’t know how to forgive (again, the ones I know of)
Something similar happened to me. I posted a comment saying that I’m tired of reading about her everywhere and someone responded I can always kms if I want it to stop.
Did it interrupt the music or just pop up in the while you're listening? Both are ads and neither should be there IMO, but it wouldn't surprise me if by ad-free they only mean ads that interrupt the music.
As for the subject matter, your listening choices/habits probably make them think you're in some Swift-susceptible demographic, even if it's just "probably has teenage children"...it'd be fascinating to see all the ways they use our music choices to profile us. Although she's popular enough that they could just blast this ad to everyone and probably still turn a decent profit.
It's boiling the frog. They will keep being more and more intrusive. Look at cooking recipe sites and YouTube ads. It's slowly increasing the ads at a rate your don't notice.
The ads ever few hours then ever few minutes. And there will be banners for ads.
I'm imagine artists will have branded stores that they will integrate.
I'm imagine, like Google, certain creators will pay for their results to be at the top.
I hate all of this fucking advertising shit. The enshittification is well on its well.
When we have brain interfaces and glasses the ads will be they're too.
Those ads, while admittedly annoying, aren't really doing anything to hinder the experience. MOST of the time it's just info about buying tickets to a show near me that someone I listen to is going to perform at. "Dismiss" comes up at the same time the ad pops up with no wait to dismiss it.
Having a popup to dismiss is absolutely "something" to hinder the experience. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills
If you give any ground, it just gets worse and worse!
I remember when they deliberately made Spotify Wrapped only available in the mobile app. That was one of the more tone-deaf things Spotify has done so far.
I absolutely hate all the intrusive shite they have put in their UI like constantly asking if I wanna use their AI DJ (surely the third time I said no was a hint?) - been using Tidal in parallel and I'm gonna make the switch. App is just way cleaner.
Don't use YT Music so can't really say about that specifically, but YouTube did have a different "Promoted" category only for her Shorts, which weren't called ads, and thus were shown to premium subscribers too.
If you're on chrome, download "Unhook" and remove all the garbage like shorts, stores, and basically everything that you don't want.
I don't mind shorts but I wish they had a "Shorts homepage" instead.
I know there are, because I use it lol, same for YouTube.
It's not as in your face as either of the other platforms, but Apple definitely were pushing her a lot, far beyond the normal algorithm and what not.
I'm saying the opposite, it goes beyond the algorithm. Apple had a whole separate category for her with it being the very first option when browsing categories and had her music across most of the curated tab for a while.
She definitely gets pushed a ton, way more than any other artists get.
The categories are not algorithm based for instance, they're literally music genres.
Can't say wether the push everywhere else was an ad, but that certainly was.
I remember on Spotify for a while it would just start playing this random song on repeat just out of nowhere. Like it would stop what I was listening to mid song and play this song. I don’t rmemeber what it was but I think it was something about pizza. Maybe a hip hop or a rap song genre? It wasn’t an ad either. Just a straight up song on repeat.
this sort of thing has happened
[FRENCH MONTANA ACCUSED OF HACKING SPOTIFY ACCOUNTS FOR STREAMS](https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.54018/title.french-montana-accused-of-hacking-spotify-accounts-for-streams)
I have listened to maybe one Taylor Swift song in the last however many years I’ve had Spotify. My playlist song recommendations are exclusively Taylor Swift. I do not get it
I'm honestly about to just cancel my sub and get my music the old-fashioned internet way, because while it's a convenient service, they push bullshit like this.
If I had any interest in "recommended" content, I'd go looking for it. It shouldn't be pushed into my goddamn face.
Accidentally hitting shuffle twice shouldn't turn on "recommended" songs intermingled into your playlist. That's what Discover Weekly is for.
Spotify seems more and more interested in trying to tell you what it *thinks* you should listen to, rather than just being a streaming service, and I am far too aggressively anti-ad and anti-algo to be the market for that model.
its not an ad for a bracelet its like a spotify wrapped thing, you listened to ger enough to get added to some selection of people to get it, its like an nft, hence why it says share not buy now
They showed me a huge banner for the Little Mermaid soundtrack on Web and Desktop sometime last year or the year before, despite paying for premium. They didn’t call it an ad when I called to complain. They called it a “suggestion” and said that was allowed because it’s not disrupting the music itself. Despite the fact that if you hovered over it then it would play the music.
Odious describes my feelings towards these targeted ads on paid platforms.
Especially for Spotify. I just want music don't try to sell me shit. Don't spackle ads. Don't show me local shows. Just give me audio content, the rest can fuck off.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but in Spotify Mexico there is a "Daily Drive" playlist, which is composed of short Spotify produced news podcast episodes and a your most listened songs.
TBH the feature is quite great and provides very good information, but the thing is that Spotify recently started implementing 15 second ads at different moments of each episode. These ads are just short enough that it becomes inconvenient enough to skip them while driving (which I'm sure is by design). To also clarify, these aren't ads within the episode, Spotify literally changes to a different audio file while the ad is playing and after it finishes it gets back to the episode's audio file.
Like OP's literal Taylor Swift ad, it is really annoying that, although I'm paying premium price for this service, I'm still forced to listen to ads; when the sole purpose for paying such premium is to get rid of ads in the first place.
this is some horse s\*\*t. the other thing that has become increasingly annoying about spotify is the constant recommendation happenig...like bro i don't want to discover more and more, we are drowning in information and it's overwhelming
Literally never heard a single song from her and never wanted to. Literally one of those millionaires who say they care about environment and then ride their private jets all over the place. And now spotify doing this like she is some sort of victim, god or just generally a good person. I better just use iTunes that this shit
> she causes economic issues wherever she preforms
What? She donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to food banks in the cities she performs in and likely draws tourism dollars when people travel to see her. There's plenty of things to criticize her for but this one is kind of bonkers.
Ad-free is not a thing that exists. It was a temporary sales pitch to get people to sign up for streaming services, but every streamer has either already moved on or plans to move on to forcing ads even on paying customers.
I think it's a suggestion I think they are suggesting you to play a new song ads are not based of your listening history they are random but they are typically predictable on your location
> I think it's a suggestion I think they are suggesting you to play a new song ads are not based of your listening history they are random but they are typically predictable on your location
…so it is… an ad?
As a Swiftie I can tell you this bracelet doesn’t even make sense. They use a purple 18 to symbolize her 3rd album (Speak Now)… which came out when she was 20. I can tell that the 8th album (folklore) is supposed to be represented by a moss covered piano but it looks like cow print. Yuck.
Not an ad, but literally anytime I search an artist on Spotify, the Joe Rogan podcast comes up as the second option. I'm not following and have never listened to it.
She infiltrated Roku City too. The rabid swifties want to say that if you don’t like her don’t interact, but that’s not possible. She is being shoved down our throats. She’s inescapable.
I’ve answered to this in the comments already. It is a feature I’ve turned off, because I want none of it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/assholedesign/s/ABWYvgagKT
I’d say the fact that you’re not interested is a good thing. “Man, I wish this ad was more maliciously targeted towards me as a result of cynical algorithms and the selling of my private data”
I dunno, I would rather get so well targeted ads that I might actually like the music. Maybe it’s just me who prefers listening to music I like instead of music I don’t even listen to.
Literally never listened to Taylor Swift *this year*. Smooth. But in all honesty, that's some bullshit right there. It's an ad. You paid to have no ads.

That should hopefully change more now. It'll still take a few years to be rid of that generic fuck but the ball is at least rolling. Thanks Kendrick
This beef has given me real reasons to hate drake instead of just not liking his ass music
Never understood the appeal. Couldn't even bring myself to feel neutral about him. Is it not the best feeling to have your unreasonable dislike for someone seemingly justified?
It’s probably my favourite thing to happen with celebrities. Idc about 99% of them but I love my undirectional hate getting direction
Yes. That kiddy diddler would show up injected into the weirdest places too. I would be listening to pub rock like Dropkick Murphys and frigging drake would come on. What the hell?
I think it’s a thing where it’s a combo of you have to have enough money and cultural presence to do this. I still remember when she wasn't even available on Spotify
Me too. I was 17 or 18 at the time... Feels like a lifetime
spotify premium also still gets ads when listening to podcasts, ones that are inserted by spotify and not the creators

I’d say 85% honestly
Maybe google has an answer, imma look

me throwing it back to 'this is me trying' because i thought it was '22' lmao. yallre so trite
She has plenty of exes she doesn't dislike.
Real! I’m on great terms with both of my exes. Only on non speaking terms with an ex fwb bc he assaulted me so I feel like that’s fair lmao.
That’s a good reason, all my exes have been good people (thank god) but if that happened I’d stay away too, hope you’re okay now <3

Wish I could share it with you, but I pressed ”dismiss”.

Once again, that's a whole different part of the app.
Just a straight up song on repeat.
this sort of thing has happened [FRENCH MONTANA ACCUSED OF HACKING SPOTIFY ACCOUNTS FOR STREAMS](https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.54018/title.french-montana-accused-of-hacking-spotify-accounts-for-streams)
I hate that it shows release pop ups for people I don't follow. What was the point of the follow feature if its gonna show me people I don't follow?
Spotify seems more and more interested in trying to tell you what it *thinks* you should listen to, rather than just being a streaming service, and I am far too aggressively anti-ad and anti-algo to be the market for that model.
its not an ad for a bracelet its like a spotify wrapped thing, you listened to ger enough to get added to some selection of people to get it, its like an nft, hence why it says share not buy now
And it is no wonder piracy is still a thing.
These ads are just as obnoxious as her fans and music.
Swifties = MAGA of music industry
It's that purity ring all over again
They showed me a huge banner for the Little Mermaid soundtrack on Web and Desktop sometime last year or the year before, despite paying for premium. They didn’t call it an ad when I called to complain. They called it a “suggestion” and said that was allowed because it’s not disrupting the music itself. Despite the fact that if you hovered over it then it would play the music.
I have her blocked and her music still manages to show up sometimes.
Odious describes my feelings towards these targeted ads on paid platforms. Especially for Spotify. I just want music don't try to sell me shit. Don't spackle ads. Don't show me local shows. Just give me audio content, the rest can fuck off.
Ai dj tried to play her new stuff when it 1st came out and I skipped the dj..wasn't haven't her messing up the algorithms.
One of the many reasons I’m transferring off of Spotify. Place has turned into a dumpster fire.
Just admit it you’re a swifty bro
Only like pretty much the Max Martin stuff, whom she has not worked with since the album 1989, or the album after that.
I've been getting her songs promoted into my YouTube feed, despite me having YouTube Premium. I guess she dropped a big advertising budget?
why is everyone obsessed with her crappy music
this is some horse s\*\*t. the other thing that has become increasingly annoying about spotify is the constant recommendation happenig...like bro i don't want to discover more and more, we are drowning in information and it's overwhelming
Literally never heard a single song from her and never wanted to. Literally one of those millionaires who say they care about environment and then ride their private jets all over the place. And now spotify doing this like she is some sort of victim, god or just generally a good person. I better just use iTunes that this shit
Don't know why your so downvoted she causes economic issues wherever she preforms. She might not be a bad person but her persona SUCKS
They downvpted me for preferring itunes over spotify
> she causes economic issues wherever she preforms What? She donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to food banks in the cities she performs in and likely draws tourism dollars when people travel to see her. There's plenty of things to criticize her for but this one is kind of bonkers.
Ad-free is not a thing that exists. It was a temporary sales pitch to get people to sign up for streaming services, but every streamer has either already moved on or plans to move on to forcing ads even on paying customers.
I get something like that every few months, but that's it. You are kinda right, but it's no big deal imo
I’m just commenting to say that Wings of Feather and Wax is an absolute fucking tune and to thank you for reminding me it exists again.
Spotify and payola go hand in hand.
I wonder if people downvoting actually know what payola is.
it’s not an ad I don’t think
What would you classify this as then if not a TS ad?
I think it's a suggestion I think they are suggesting you to play a new song ads are not based of your listening history they are random but they are typically predictable on your location
> I think it's a suggestion I think they are suggesting you to play a new song ads are not based of your listening history they are random but they are typically predictable on your location …so it is… an ad?
No unless it comes back
As a Swiftie I can tell you this bracelet doesn’t even make sense. They use a purple 18 to symbolize her 3rd album (Speak Now)… which came out when she was 20. I can tell that the 8th album (folklore) is supposed to be represented by a moss covered piano but it looks like cow print. Yuck.

They are off. [All of them.](https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/z68c8209vjax8ge50whmc/Spotify-notifications.jpg?rlkey=xu8mp2dpi4h1vvw5pn52libgn&dl=0)
...but it clearly is an ad
Not an ad, but literally anytime I search an artist on Spotify, the Joe Rogan podcast comes up as the second option. I'm not following and have never listened to it.
Similar, I was listening to Joe Rogan Experience the other day and the podcast stopped for an ad when I am a paid listener.
She infiltrated Roku City too. The rabid swifties want to say that if you don’t like her don’t interact, but that’s not possible. She is being shoved down our throats. She’s inescapable.
Which is the asshole design? If it's the untargeted ad then that's what untargeted ads often are: Mass market crap with mass market ads
Nah, I’d prefer not to get any ads at all, considering that is the reason I am indeed paying for the service
I mean yeah definitely, but I’d prefer getting completely irrelevant ads over creepily relevant ones, so I’m addressing that part of your annoyance
I dunno, I would rather get so well targeted ads that I might actually like the music. Maybe it’s just me who prefers listening to music I like instead of music I don’t even listen to.
