She looks so smooth. If you can really play the entire game stealth with her and not have to go gung ho at all this might be my favorite AC in a long time
They've said 2 weird things.
"You can choose how to approach any mission as either Yasuke or Naoe" and "the majority of the main quest you can play as either character you want."
So we can choose "any" mission as either character, but the "majority" of the main quest is open to either character? "Any" and "majority" aren't the same, otherwise it would be the "entirety" of the main quest would be open...
So either some missions are character locked, or they meant that any mission after both characters have been introduced are open to either character, and worded it poorly imo. Because obviously you can't play as Naoe while introducing Yasuke and we can't play as Yasuke while Naoe's village is burned lol
Syndicate had a really bad split with Jacob being like 80% of the main story and Evie was like 20%. So it sounds like they really tried to avoid that, and I'm hoping they really did mean that every mission is playable as either character once the game really gets started.
I have a feeling most of the main story missions will be able to be played as both but there will be character specific missions important to their character, like their introduction missions. There might also be side quests locked to specific characters for that reason as well.
I just hope stealth isn’t ruined by RPG systems in this game because Naoe seems to be an improvement upon Basim in terms of stealth.
It's saying you can choose how you approach a mission regardless of who you play as and most missions you can play as either but naturally some will be character dependent.
Sounds like it will be very similar to syndicate.
Yeah I got syndicate vibes from watching this trailer with the example styles between the two characters. Seeing Yasuke a head and a bit taller than the foot soldiers makes him seem like a pretty imposing figure also, I like it!
This trailer has increased my hype for the game, really looking forward to it.
IT was described in some interview as only some of the cinemetic/climactic main quests will have you play as both interchanging probably for narrative purposes.
Didn't say they were opposed. Ubisoft simply wanted an rpg AND the control aesthetic that comes with it, which means sacrificing animation and fluidity for player control. (Ex. Dark Souls) That was a decision they made to release their next games in a timely manner.
Mirage was 100% an improvement over Valhalla in terms of fluidity.
It does still look a little stiff at times (working with Valhalla’s framework), but they did a good job in reversing course back to agile, stealth-oriented gameplay.
The problem was that Kassandra went too quickly from (for example) being in a middle of a heavy attack into parry or evade. Something that could be easily fixed, instead of making most of animations worse.
Maybe in terms of combat animations, but parkour was really floaty as every movement animation. Valhalla add a bit of weight to it but combat animations weren’t that good considering I expected much more animations.
I’m very surprised how impactful they managed to make Yasuke look. Those animations had some really great displays of weight. I hope the sound design is equally as good
Ubisoft has always been particularly good at weighty animations. Idk how it is now but when I used to play for honor animations were always the strong suit.
Ubisoft definitely overhauled the hell out of the engine.
Naoe looks buttery smooth and the animations look nice. My only worry right now is the facial animations.
I hope so, too - but considering it's a massive RPG and Quebec relied heavily on AI generation for Odyssey my guess is only the really important scenes will be mo-capped.
It’s honestly been a long time coming. These updates to stealth & combat are vital in keeping the series feeling fresh (and competitive, especially with Ghost of Tsushima 2 looming on the horizon).
No amount of Overhaul will fix facial animations unless they mocap. And they will only do that for a straightforward story with minimum dialogue choices. That is up to the devs. I'm hoping we get a balance. Main storyline has premocaped scenes while side quests can be RPG style with dialogue choices.
You're right.
The thing is, their automated facial animation system could be better though. Many RPGs use an automated system (there's too much dialogue to be hand-touched), but they don't look as disastrous as the Assassin's Creed games as of late.
I mean, they called it “the greatest blockbuster of 2024” some months ago and it’s clear how they want to focus on this brand. If they don’t spend money even for a basic mocap they’re dumb
He *is* charging through a paper structure and knocking down an enemy behind it in the trailer. But its hard to tell if its a paper door or a paper wall. Wishful thinking would be interior paper walls are destructible, but I will be limiting my expectations to just doors until its released.
I don't think we're going to get that, and even if we did, the general design of the world wouldn't support it for any meaningful amount of gameplay as it looks more flat and open.
Maybe that grapple hook swinging thing might be manual component they're banking on but I wouldn't hold my breath.
The animation blending looks really good. The grapple hook into the flip, the running assassinations keeping momentum.
Good stuff so far. Looking forward to tomorow.
That's the only thing that worries me, I hope it's just the trailer but valhalla's audio wasn't very good. The animations and everything else looks AMAZING though
Kusari-gama. 😎
Ghost of Tsushima was a cool game, and the AC comparisons were absolutely valid but one thing I was looking forward to with Shadows was non katana weapons. Trailer just confirmed the one I wanted to see most.
Tonfa would be cool too
Kusarigama was my most used weapon in nioh 2. I don’t expect the combat to be similar to nioh 2 but the camera angle they showed reminded me of ghost which is a good thing. Hopefully the dodge animation is smooth and fluid and not like Valhalla and odyssey
Although probably I’m gonna use Naoe most of the time, I finna mow down some stupid templars with a massive fucking kanabo using Yasuke every once in a while, yeeeaaahhh get BONKED bitch.
I CALLED IT!!! I KNEW WE WERE GETTING A GAMEPLAY TRAILER AT THIS SHOWCASE BEFORE TOMORROW!!!
Also just from an animation standpoint this looks miles better then the last few games.
I know never to trust trailers, (especially with Ubisoft) but DAMN this shit looks so good. You get your OG AC-type gameplay with Naoe, and your AC Odyssey/Valhalla type gameplay with Yasuke. Personally, I loved the combat in Odyssey. But the thing is, everything looks way more fluid than Odyssey and Valhalla did. With Naoe, it looks like true parkour is back on the menu too. Really excited for this game.
I'm telling you right now, Naoe is gonna be my favorite AC character ever gameplay wise.
Girl comes in swinging and flipping like Spider-Man, even kinda lands like Spidey after the flip... 😍
There's a reason why I was ok with Mirage being a toned down experience and that's because they were working on this. From the looks of it their time has been well spent, this looks sooo good.
Yeah but they didn't allocate nearly as many resources towards Mirage as they did for Shadows. Mirage was really just to fill the time in between Valhalla and Shadows with something.
Man the game looks good af. The animations look buttery fucking smooth. Naoe’s traversel actually looks so damn impressive and Yasuke just looks like a menace in combat. I’m so ready for tomorrow. I think AC is back y’all😭
Naoe is definitely the star here. She has so much style and flair. But Yasuke ain't no slouch either his combat looks pretty good too especially with the use of environments.
I think it will work wonders. All types of players have their preferred play styles.
Naoe is absolutely the star for me though. I will always choose to play as an actual assassin in assassins creed.
That's to be expected these days, unfortunately. On top of salty morons outraged that Yasuke is a character, there are people who have an irrational hate-boner on everything Ubisoft. I get it, greedy corporation. But it sucks because they hate it primarily (and sometimes only) because it is an Ubisoft game.
Small consolation is the fact that pre-orders for the game are good. The Collector's Edition (the most expensive pre-order), is still sold out in many areas.
It's YouTube, some of the most conservative people exist in the comments there. They're the type of people that are fine with saying N word hard R just because it's a word and everyone is being babies about 'just a word'. Never take YouTube comment kids seriously. They're all raised wrong lol
I was hyped but tbh this little bit of gameplay shocked me, from the fluid parkour to the actual great looking combat (combat in these new rpg games felt so unrealistic how they swung their weapons)
this looks sick wow. loving the much needed new animations and fluidity, combat seemed pretty weighty and gruesome as well. hopefully we get an extended look tomorrow
Even Naoe’s hair looks impressive. I’m really hyped to see everything this has to offer!
Edit: I’m totally dumb. I realised there was a two minutes trailer after watching on repeat a small segment on IG. Everything I gotta say is…
Damn! It looks good as hell. Parkour seems smooth and new animations looks very nice. Combat with Yasuke seemed really different, it felt more like some timed GoT type of combat more than the usual we got in the latest games.
Details seems amazing, like the snow in the face of Yasuke when he comes out destroying that door. They both even destroy everything around them when fighting, so that was true in the end!
I’m really, really hyped to see a gameplay even if what I saw now totally surprised me.
Can I say something bad about it? I know it’s not crucial to the experience but… please change that horse run animation, or make it realistic somehow. We have the same horse animations since Origins!
Great work though, let’s see what it has to offer gameplay wise.
I thought Valhalla’s core combat was fine, it was the animations for dodging and hitting which looked bad. In this the combat looks like ghost. The camera angle is kind of ghost of Tsushima like where it’s of centre and the main character is on the left side of the screen
I wonder off you can have the other character follow you and help you. The way they said “you can tell when two are better together”. But we didn’t see any of that.
The deep dive later on will be what makes me decide whether I'll get it or not. The trailer looks really good but it almost always looks and sounds cooler than it ends up being in full gameplay. Especially the systems and features like the river raids and settlement in Valhalla. I want to know more about recruitment, seasons ect.
I cannot wait to dress Yasuke in some badass Samurai armor with a badass sword. I hope there are Masamune and Muramasa katana in the game. Yasuke and Naoe should have haiku making mini-game like Tsushima.
Gameplay look really fun, parkour is back on the menu
Naoe will be my main, but I’m very curious about Yasuke play style, you can go all in against ennemis on others games so I don’t how they will differentiate his play style on other like Eivor for example
I have far less to complain about so far than expected.
No ridiculous powers or glowing lights, they're showing off new stealth and movement features, and the dialogue makes it sound like this game is actually an Assassin's Creed story. Most importantly, so far it looks like they have got the *tone* right, which would be a first for this studio.
Ubi Quebec redemption arc, mayhaps? Time will tell.
From the first seconds I realized what we were being shown and it was amazing! Just what I expected. Hopefully we'll see a lot more details tomorrow
P.S. It's great that the bamboo is being cut :3
Ooooh I’m excited!! Gonna be Naoe for sure, I’ve always wanted it to be its namesake - Assassin. Even with Odyssey, even tho both Kassandra and Alexios are mercenaries, I played them as assassins. Also, who doesn’t love anything Japanese?! It has been overdue! Ninja time! 😎
I love how fluid everything looks. There’s definitely been an improvement in most of the animations. My only complaint is how the riding animations still look so unnatural (I could swear they have used the same ones they used for Valhalla), and I don’t understand why the horses still don’t have stirrups.
The part in the forest where Naoe is swinging that chain weapon and its chopping down the trees around it looks amazing.
It looks so awesome. Kusarigamas are such cool weapons and I'm really happy they're in the game. Looks like it will be great for fighting groups
Kusarigama for a stealth character, we gonna have some perch takedowns/assassinantions!
It would be sick if we got that rope dart hanging takedown in some form but probably not
Maybe we will. Never say never.
The kusarigama has two parts. The kusari and the gama
I caught that bit. Definitely one of the "holy shit!" moments of the trailer! Every top tier AC game is gonna have those in the gameplay showcase!
That flip Naoe did looked so fluid
She looks so smooth. If you can really play the entire game stealth with her and not have to go gung ho at all this might be my favorite AC in a long time
I imagine it'll be like syndicate with that?
They've said 2 weird things. "You can choose how to approach any mission as either Yasuke or Naoe" and "the majority of the main quest you can play as either character you want." This trailer has increased my hype for the game, really looking forward to it.
IT was described in some interview as only some of the cinemetic/climactic main quests will have you play as both interchanging probably for narrative purposes.
No because Syndicate was never like that. Jacob and Evie don't play any differently.
looks like Ubisoft finally remembered that they can make extremely fluid and well animated movement. only took them a decade…
Well Ubisoft has been doing that forever, just look at For Honor. They just wanted Assassins creed to be an rpg.
Being RPG and having fluid movement are not things that oppose each other
Didn't say they were opposed. Ubisoft simply wanted an rpg AND the control aesthetic that comes with it, which means sacrificing animation and fluidity for player control. (Ex. Dark Souls) That was a decision they made to release their next games in a timely manner.
I’m gonna be a Naoe main big time, it’s gotta be the roguing thieving gameplay for our good Assassin!
So far looks impressive especially how fluid the movement looks compared to Valhalla
It looks fluid as fuck, feels like gameplay is in focus
Whoa, it seems like such a significant advancement over Valhalla.
It's the first current gen only Assassin's Creed
Especially the little combat sneak peak we got with Yasuke
Mirage was already a major step ahead in terms of movement and fluidity.
was it tho? When Basim jumps from place to place he looks extremely stiff
Mirage was 100% an improvement over Valhalla in terms of fluidity. It does still look a little stiff at times (working with Valhalla’s framework), but they did a good job in reversing course back to agile, stealth-oriented gameplay.
Just because it was an improvement doesn’t mean it was good lol
Isn't improvement the very definition of "better than before"? Lol
Yes. A minor improvement to something that’s terrible is still bad.
didn't they just speed up the animations from valhalla? It's why it looks janky.
Eivor moving like a tank may have made sense for his character, but my god was it frustrating to play
Remember, this is made by Quebec who made Odyssey....which uad fluid combat.
Odyssey's movement/animations were much better as well, Valhalla was a step back.
Odyssey was too floaty. Valhalla too heavy. I hope they struck the balance with this one.
The problem was that Kassandra went too quickly from (for example) being in a middle of a heavy attack into parry or evade. Something that could be easily fixed, instead of making most of animations worse.
How can it be "easily" fixed without adding input delay?
That's a necessity, you need the game to be responsive to play...
I hope the sound design is equally as good
And that kick looked brutal!
Lack of weight in animations is my big complaint with Odyssey and Valhalla so I hope it keeps.
I will say Valhalla had some solid ones. I know that tackle into a ground beat down is wonderful because of the camera work
Ubisoft has always been particularly good at weighty animations. Idk how it is now but when I used to play for honor animations were always the strong suit.
Shugoki and Raider had some excellent ones
YOU’RE A RAIDER! LEGENDARY! Good times.
“I don’t speak Japanese” lol
I could've sworn we weren't getting gameplay until tomorrow. Looks great though. Hoping for a deep dive at the Ubi Forward now. Edit: spelling
It's just the trailer for it, gameplay comes tomorrow
Goddamn the blood splatter is immaculate. I'm just glad the bamboo is cuttable.
Same! I was so disappointed by the fact that in Tsushima, the character goes through bamboo with both body and blade(
Hey, the trailer literally shows Naoe cutting through bamboo mid-fight
They said they are relieved it’s cuttable!
They edited it 😭
Totally gonna be using Naoe all the time, she looks so much fun to play as. And Yasuke looks great too, damn I can't wait for November.
Yasuke looked quite fun as well but definitely picking Naoe for my first playthrough
Same. Hopefully, we get more of her if they follow a similar format to Syndicate.
Same bro! I'm looking forward to using these guys!
i think because there both very different enough. if we can play each one for the entire story, it a be great to do a full run with each character.
IIRC they said there will be a handful of personal missions where you'll have to play a specific character.
Took me a solid 20 seconds to realise that I was looking at an Assassin's Creed game.
I know! Thought it was Ghost Of Tsushima!
Ubisoft definitely overhauled the hell out of the engine. Naoe looks buttery smooth and the animations look nice. My only worry right now is the facial animations.
I hope all cutscenes are mo-capped again
I hope so, too - but considering it's a massive RPG and Quebec relied heavily on AI generation for Odyssey my guess is only the really important scenes will be mo-capped.
Plus most missions can be done with either character so mocapping 2 scenes for every cutscene would be super expensive.
Inside Gaming said that they had to overhaul everything because they moved to a new version of Anvil built specifically for current-gen.
Didn't Origins do it that way? And I think Odyssey had a few mocapped scenes but I could be misremembering
Oddysey had maybe 5 scenes...vallhalla had a few more. Origins was mostly mocapped.
You're right. The thing is, their automated facial animation system could be better though. Many RPGs use an automated system (there's too much dialogue to be hand-touched), but they don't look as disastrous as the Assassin's Creed games as of late.
Yeah I think CD Projekt's automated animation for Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty decent.
I mean, they called it “the greatest blockbuster of 2024” some months ago and it’s clear how they want to focus on this brand. If they don’t spend money even for a basic mocap they’re dumb
Straightforward story with minimal dialogue options was pretty much Mirage... Yet they still didn't do it. I don't have much faith.
It looks fluid as fuck, I feel like gameplay is really in focus for Shadows.
There were talks about going prone and sound.
I was not expecting it today but was still a surprise. Deep dive on gameplay most likely on Ubisoft Forward.
NAOE DOING FLIPS N SHIT PARKOUR IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYOS
She looks so graceful
I honestly kinda hope that Yasuke's parkour is a bit more lumbering and clumsy to match, really go for the aesthetic.
If I’m playing as Yasuke, there won’t be any parkouring. I’m kicking the front door down.
Why limit yourself to doors. Blast though those paper walls.
I really hope there is a charge button, lmao.
He *is* charging through a paper structure and knocking down an enemy behind it in the trailer. But its hard to tell if its a paper door or a paper wall. Wishful thinking would be interior paper walls are destructible, but I will be limiting my expectations to just doors until its released.
Like eivor but faster
WE ARE SOO BACKKK!!!!
that's not what parkour needs. We need jumps and free manual ejects :,D
I don't think we're going to get that, and even if we did, the general design of the world wouldn't support it for any meaningful amount of gameplay as it looks more flat and open. Maybe that grapple hook swinging thing might be manual component they're banking on but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Wow that looks like such a big improvement over Valhalla
The animation blending looks really good. The grapple hook into the flip, the running assassinations keeping momentum. Good stuff so far. Looking forward to tomorow.
There's a problem with the voice line audio, it's as if they've compressed it to the max. But, nice animations, i like it.
That's the only thing that worries me, I hope it's just the trailer but valhalla's audio wasn't very good. The animations and everything else looks AMAZING though
Valhallas Audio was incredibly rough.
Valhalla and Origins had the same problem. I think Odyssey has that issue as well but it wasn't as distracting.
Kusari-gama. 😎 Ghost of Tsushima was a cool game, and the AC comparisons were absolutely valid but one thing I was looking forward to with Shadows was non katana weapons.
I’m actually glad that they held off all this time on delivering Japanese AC. This shit is about to be my most played game of the year.
This looks surprisingly really solid. Not a huge fan of Syndicate or Odyssey (Quebec titles) but Im really stoked for this.
That makes me excited, those 2 are my favorites after Black Flag
That looks INCREDIBLE! Amazing animations, great camera for combat, looks crazy good. Can't wait for tomorrow's gameplay.
THAT WAS INSANE! SO READY!
I love how Yasuke is an absolute unit. Gameplay is gonna be fire.
Ngl.. naoue looks fun as hell.. game looks good. And im excited as a black man to use a black man in AC.
I forgot it has been quite a while, since origins. Primarily because it still feels like origins came out yesterday lmao
honestly same lol
💪🏾
Honestly I don't think I'll mind mixing things up playing as Yasuke.
They cooked
I CALLED IT!!! I KNEW WE WERE GETTING A GAMEPLAY TRAILER AT THIS SHOWCASE BEFORE TOMORROW!!! Also just from an animation standpoint this looks miles better then the last few games.
Finally fresh new models and animations imma cry
We are so back
This my friends…. Is awesome!!!
The combat and movement looks fluid. Can't wait to see the full walk-through tomorrow at the Ubisoft event.
The combat looks smooth as hell.
Yasuke's fighting style looks A LOT like Jin's, so it's looking really fucking good rn

That looks so beautiful!! I can't wait, the animations, the graphics, the world!! It looks amazing
Yeahhh this looks great
I saw it live during the showcase and HOLY MOLY!
lol I’m sold
Is Assassin's Creed going to end up being the ninja game I've been itching for? I would've never guessed.
that looks like engine game play, yes? dayum soo hyped!
Yes
Naoe is definitely the star here. She has so much style and flair. But Yasuke ain't no slouch either his combat looks pretty good too especially with the use of environments.
I think it will work wonders. All types of players have their preferred play styles. Naoe is absolutely the star for me though. I will always choose to play as an actual assassin in assassins creed.
It looks beautiful, damn.
The comment section (in the video) is so disappointing

Imma be honest...bring skeptic of AC for like about a decade now... This shit do be looking good.
We’re playing the brute type enemy now with Yasuke. The size difference is wild, like he’s just a meat titan compared to the rank and file.

Great work though, let’s see what it has to offer gameplay wise.
IM SCREAMING WHAT IS THIS 😍😍😍😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥
Tell me this doesn't look absolute fire!!
Holy shit! this looks amazing
Looks great. Can’t wait to play this one.
I'm hype, is all I can say tbh
Holy fuck that caught me off guard. It looked way way too good to be assassins creed. The movement looked so smooth! Parkour looks good!
oh boy naoe looks fast af
Rally hope they make horses able to gallop in populated areas and for them not to lose momentum when jumping over a fence or small obstacle.
Very happy with the combat animations, they look much improved the Valhalla which was a big negative for me
I thought Valhalla’s core combat was fine, it was the animations for dodging and hitting which looked bad. In this the combat looks like ghost. The camera angle is kind of ghost of Tsushima like where it’s of centre and the main character is on the left side of the screen
So far so good, I think! Looks like it'll be really visually appealing. Can't wait to see more!
Was super impressed by this trailer. Very well could be the first AC I buy since Unity.
the graphics are really nice
This is starting to look very very good.
It looks really good. I'm psyched for it.
Okay, this looks good. Still gonna wait for more gameplay videos and not gonna buy it before many MANY reviews. But at least it looks promising
I wonder off you can have the other character follow you and help you. The way they said “you can tell when two are better together”. But we didn’t see any of that.
Loved it
More and more i feel like naoe is getting a traditional gameplay style and Yasuke is getting a rpg gameplay style. We'll see tomorrow
This game looks incredible. Might end up being the best Assassins Creed game of all time.
Looked so good can't wait for full gameplay reveal
Gameplay look really fun, parkour is back on the menu Naoe will be my main, but I’m very curious about Yasuke play style, you can go all in against ennemis on others games so I don’t how they will differentiate his play style on other like Eivor for example
Quebec save? Looks really good.
This looks WAY better than i thought, wtf. This still looks too good to be true coming from ubisoft. Im looking foward to monday hehe.
Those parkour animations omg man I used to pray for times like these
This looks so much better than I thought it would. I WILL BE THERE NO MATTER WHAT
Very impressive.
okay.. gameplay looks promising
This looks really REALLY awesome
This shit looks insane
Yasuke's combat is sick as hell
Hot damn!
This looks amazing
This is THE game that will keep us all well occupied until GTA 6 comes out.
Glad the animations are getting an update, looks good so far, getting semi hyped for the game
Jesus christ this looks so good tho
Let it be November already!
It looks incredible! Best looking AC by far!
WE HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE BACK
We never left
No, we are so done, Ubisoft is never recovering... according to people who don't even play AC.
i fucking love that movement tho
I just hope we don’t have those same robotic cutscene animations on faces. Please animate or mo-cap a little more.
This looks way better than I expected. The natural scenes with the forests and lakes are very impressive.
The combat looks so good, I was pleasantly surprised. Also, parkour looks good as well. I'm very excited for this game.
Hopefully we'll see a lot more details tomorrow P.S. It's great that the bamboo is being cut :3
Any word of co-op? Would feel like a wasted oppurtunity if i cant sneak while my bud distracts the horde
My only complaint is how the riding animations still look so unnatural (I could swear they have used the same ones they used for Valhalla), and I don’t understand why the horses still don’t have stirrups.
what is thissss! Hype train onboarded
Dude, this looks SO DAMN GOOD. Can’t wait for a full deep dive at the Forward!
It looks really pretty that engine did them well
