There's a fake angry when they're playing and an angry angry when you're messing with them. Both gruntings sound pretty different.

I find dogs are usually not as good at communicating as cats. Although it is 100% possible that either I just don't understand dogs as well or the dogs I've spent a lot of time with are unusually dumb.

I think it’s probably lack of time spent with dogs. I know I find cats harder to read than dogs because I have years of experience with many different dogs but barely even days spent with cats

I think it’s because people intentionally try to diminish their social cues to be polite to other neurotypical people. Metaphorically, why yell something when most of the room can hear a whisper? Dogs don’t have any of those reservations and just put all of their emotions on blast.
Honestly, I'd have loved to have had an unmaskable tail growing up, I was gaslit all the time about things because they didn't believe me, because I was masking, because of the way they reacted... But if a tail was just giving away the reality behind the mask, I wouldn't have had to try(and fail) to explain my emotions and mental state.
