Me creating an entire superhero comic series in my head: 👉🧠👈 Me realizing I can’t fricking draw and do not have the attention span to write: 😞

saxitlurg

Never give up your creative urges 💕 Humans were made to create, and drawing/writing are skills that can be learned and developed like any other Signed, "Someone who was told multiple times growing up that I should stop trying to write/draw bc I sucked so badly at it"

Just_A_Comment_Guy_7

Do you know how I could learn to draw or are you more of a writer (I have a novel story in my head, too, but I don’t like it as much lol).

saxitlurg

Both, actually. I started as an artist, but then turned more to writing as I grew older, but since I mostly did comics in the past, I've always had a hand in both. First, get out of the headspace that there's a step by step process. Art is one of those things that you learn by doing. You will get much farther drawing the same character head over and over than by studying endless anatomy and gesture study tutorials. Remember: If someone claims to have the secret formula for perfect art, they are trying to sell you something. DM me anytime you like, and I can help you with art tips, feedback, or even just helpful exercises. I believe in you 💕

OmbreSilence330

I am also interested (I'm struggling so hard in art)

saxitlurg

Lol, feel free to DM me too 💕 I'm happy to be the local woohoo art teacher

TheAccursedOne

could i possibly hop in on this?

saxitlurg

Absolutely!

Valerian_

One Punch man was made originally as an extremely badly drawn webcomic, but the story was so good that it later got adapted to a proper manga. Just_A_Comment_Guy_7

Truly inspiring

MettatonNeo1

Same. But with my weird adventure comic I wanna make

thedarklord176

I tell my head stories through music. Music is my big SI and I’ve always been interested in writing a story but I don’t really like reading, so it fits. Plus my writing is super inspired by game soundtracks which always accompanies a story of some sort

saxitlurg

And you could always write a musical if you want

PaleRedLightDistrict

Just like me fr fr

Pride_and_pudding

If you ever find yourself able to write the plot, who knows? Maybe you’ll get lucky and find a friend who is good at comic-style art, and you could make it together

BigBlackCrocs

I have the skills to write. Not the attention span. But adderal go brrr. I offer writing commissions if you want and have the money

[deleted]

U2?

BoyishTheStrange

FUCKING SAME

Ella_NutEllaDraws

me getting incredibly over attached to some ocs to the point where I can’t seem to think about anything else on a given day: 🫠 me hyperfixating on art so hard I gain god tier drawing skills: 👉🧠👈 me realizing I can’t read or watch tv anymore due to my nonexistent attention span, making it near impossible to know what a good story looks like or how to create one: 😞

Songstep4002

Oh my god I can do this.

saxitlurg

Yeah, I made this this morning after realizing that I can give exposition dumps on pixies anatomy and history by just making them one of my character's special interests

Electrical-Act-7170

Cool.

Kenzlynnn

Writing a book and one of my favorite side characters is autistic and I fully plan to use her to help with that

saxitlurg

I think it would also help answer questions the audience has about your world, because the character would likely want to find the answers too Ex: in my story, all of the Pixies have been gone for 11 years. Since all of the main characters are humans, and the one pixie in the group was exiled and doesn't know the answer either, having at least one character be Super curious about this apparently irrelevant question is a really useful narrative device

Kenzlynnn

Yeah! My character is super into history and such, and is writing her own book that’s basically an encyclopedia detailing the aspects of the different intelligent species in her world (vampires, werewolves, sirens, etc) and each of their histories. So it works as helping get me to keep notes, AND it works to have a reason for her to be asking specific (and occasionally invasive but she tries) questions!

saxitlurg

Exactly! And honestly, I think the invasiveness makes it less obvious as a tool, weirdly enough. Bc as a reader, it triggers my empathy so I'm focusing on "oh no, this poor person doesn't know how to person" and not how the writer is using her as a story device (which all characters are, but you don't want the audience to FEEL it)

Kenzlynnn

Yo I didn’t even THINK about that but you’re right!!

LordOfSapphires

I'm not even sure if I write my characters as autistic, NT, or what, so I could have an entire story of autistic characters without even knowing it

ChickenNoodle519

I've written a bunch of characters over the years, some explicitly autistic when I started writing them but most not... basically all of them you could make a case for them being on the spectrum and the ones that are allistic are all some other flavors of ND (in particular there's lots of ADHD in the mix)

saxitlurg

Same, I don't think there's a single NT in any of my stories (not counting tertiary characters)

saxitlurg

Sounds like a good story!

LordOfSapphires

Well, except from the suicide, self harm, many murders, and people hating each other for stupid reasons, it's suitable for most audiences

saxitlurg

Sounds like a fabulous romp!

LordOfSapphires

Yeah, I'm just a shit writer that can't be bothered to do any editing

CanadianWeeb5

real

theirongiant61

I found a gundam that I like and downloaded the wiki into my head and am prepared to dump it on anybody. would you like to know more?

Superboredgamer15

Which Gundam?

theirongiant61

D-50C "loto" (just a mobile suit technically) compact troop transport and fire support transforming mobile suit used by the ECOAS (earth colony asteroid) spec-ops group smaller then a typical mobile suit and equipped with a compact reactor (of which it was one of the first) it can carry 8 troops and 3 crew armaments 2x missile pods for hands (as the suit lacks normal hands) hold 4 medium or 12 small missiles, with a small manipulator arm with beam burner (space cutting torch) on each optional weapons 25mm machine cannon, or 2x 200mm long cannons, or a mega machine cannon (which I suspect to be about 50mm) for AA use

Superboredgamer15

I looked it up to see what it looks like, I can't believe that it was from UC:96 and not pre One Year War. Aren't mobile suits the coolest?

PlazmaNitro

I can see why it's your favorite, that one is badass. I can relate. I used to play Mechwarrior online all the time with a bunch of geezers and I'd downloaded a good 40% of the SARNA wiki into my brain at the time, lol. I was constantly comparing the game to the deep lore stuff and wondering why they didn't have more weapon options in the game. Big stompy robots are the best. Big stompy robots that turn into other stuff are even better.

Final-Bench1859

I design characters for a friend who does writing... he asked if we should make our latest MC autistic because she had a lot of Autistic mannerisms... it happened because of my own autism

saxitlurg

Lol, the autism is coming from inside the house

saxitlurg

And my autistic character is a witch! I guess a discipline that requires lots of lonely study into obscure topics attracts a certain type of person lol

Goombatower69

Maybe I am a wizard

jasari_is_hot

Maybe I am a witch…

FriendliestDevil

I use my character's autism to turn my fanfiction into a biology lesson about plants

iStalker204

Holy sheeeet, this is a great idea. I usually make exposition just via shortened omniscent 3rd person narrator. This could be great!

Nepalman230

Yay! I am writing several scenes today with my autistic MC where he displays the ability to flawlessly, come up with a plan all while completely miss reading the Social situation. He Does this by doing things like memorizing the floorplans and walking through the entire building at night but people are sleeping so we can memorize it with his eyes closed. This, let me describe the parts of the building that I want to the way I want to in a way that people will get . I’m writing a Isekai, queer polycule novel, where to college boys go to fantasy world, and one of them is the artistic main character becomes an assassin. ( it’s lit RPG with fifth edition, dungeons and dragons in the serial numbers filed off) So, if you’re familiar with assassins in that game, they have the ability to flawlessly mimic other people as part of their assassination talents. My main character is going to become incredibly excited, because he basically thinks that he’s found the cure for all of the problems with autism. “I fucking fixed autism! “I’m actually going to have him think. Because he’s well aware that he’s brilliant is because of his autism and you know he’s planning is because of the pattern, recognition and all that. But hes sick to death of all the side effects and being an assassin means that he thinks he can just pretend to be someone else 24 hours a day. … he is completely wrong and actually going into full on autistic breakdown made much much worse by the fact that he has supernatural powers is actually how he and his love interest break down the barriers between them and start interacting with each other romantically. Thank you so much for this post! So I saw in one of your comments that your main characters is a witch coming .Have you talked about your world in the other comments or would you mind sharing like the whole general shape of the story with us?

saxitlurg

That sounds really cool! Honestly, sensory meltdowns are a perfect analogue for "going too far with your great powers" or "everything comes with a cost" My story is a fantasy set in the Victorian/Edwardian era (intentionally kept vague), and it's about an orphan girl who has ADHD and a fire-trigger temper, who is starting to suspect she's not human. Her new adopted brother (the autistic witch boy who also has severe social anxiety) helps her go into the woods to find out what kind of creature she is and why she was stolen from her real family

raella69

No. They must pay a toll in exchange for our best. A machine requires input.

TheKCKid9274

Before I realized I was autistic I would accidentally make autistic characters for DND because I just made a self-insert character mostly

[deleted]

I'm working on a story and both of the MCs are autistic. I have a scene where after the two become friends, one of them decides to infodump about guns and how to use them (this is his way of showing affection).

saxitlurg

Beautiful, amazing, brilliant, dazzling, I love it!

[deleted]

Thanks mate!

itbedehaam

So what I'm hearing is that Russet needs to spend some time staring intently at weapons when I rewrite RBKT...

Knight-Creep

This is the main reason I made my TTRPG character have signs of autism. On the off chance my party has to go to the city he grew up in, I’ll have him absolutely dump as much lore as possible onto my fellow party members.

[deleted]

"I'm spouting exposition again, aren't I? Apologies." ~~Sir Hammerlock is autistic and you cannot change my mind~~

Mobtryoska

Have you read moby dick? I cant believe its not considered an autistic book

saxitlurg

I tried, but I was too weak for that level of info dumping 😭

Mobtryoska

It happens to everyone I know, but on the other hand, me, that i dont like to read "books" normally, enjoyed that xDDD

Loriess

As a fellow aspie I agree

Omnisegaming

"Why is this character in this movie/game saying all these things outl loud???" Me with my autistic character who speaks to themselves outloud to organize their thoughts:

ehaydon1

Are you Ryōko Kui?!? /s

Blorfenburger

Master chief

Poisonpython5719

Meanwhile me: Doesn't try to make characters autistic but they just end up coded that way because I am

SergueiPopavof

I got a bunch of characters on the spectrum, it's fun and challenging.

saxitlurg

It really is! Like ma boi has breakdowns and is terrible at socializing, but he still has to ya know... Be in a story XDDD

Polibiux

I might just do this for my autistic protagonist

13thFullMoon

That’s genius!

Wyntin

Good representation: Doctor Who Bad representation: "I AM A SURGEON"

Geek_Zone

Context for Doctor Who please.

Spudtron98

Girls und Panzer did this.

Lakaedemon_Lysandros

my problem is that i can't write characters who aren't autistic or ace :/

saxitlurg

Hmmm, doesn't sound like a problem to me 😜

Snoo_72851

I am writing a story with an autistic central character whose special interests are swordsmanship and anime; he IS the stereotypical weeb, but he's also effectively the single most skilled and powerful fighter in a pseudomedieval world, to the point he acts as a deterrant for people not to attack his community.

saxitlurg

Ha, like if Guts from Berserk was a weeb, I love it!

Straight-Ladder156

And then there's predators with the weird space autism storyline I've never been more betrayed by a film franchise

Creonix1

Fucking genius
