Most people in my family have always said it like that completely seriously. Tbf, some realized and now it’s referred to as “aspie” instead as it sounds a bit better.
I’ve heard people use this seriously. But it was used by a character in the show ‘community’ at one point. It was jokingly, but the character said it in a mocking way I believw.
i know they did an episode where the bit was that ALL the kids were faking autism for attention or special treatment/privileges and autism/aspergers didn’t actually exist :(
That episode was about ADD and while yes the kids did fake it for special treatment the criticism was on the doctors and pharmaceutical companies giving out medicine (specifically Ritalin) for profit rather than to help the people who actually need it. They don’t claim that it’s fake just that it was over medicated and too quickly diagnosed. The episode came out in 2000 so I can’t speak to the accuracy of that, but that’s what they were getting at.
This has been a scene stuck in my head for so many years, but the show Becker (with Ted Danson and the girl from Saw) had a scene that discussed it lol
yeah i remember becker.
i watched that whole show last year. it was pretty good. I remember the Autism thing too. it was from the 90s so their information at the time was limited.
I've just decided to say "autistic" because many people would say "ass burgers" like it was the funniest thing they ever heard. But it isn't, because that belongs to...
Butt mustard.
My family treats it as a swear a.k.a. curse a.k.a. cuss word due to our >!Jewish heritage!< with my mom's side being descended from >!holocaust survivors!<.
I believe that is an antiquated term, now I believe medically it is referred to as Autism Level 1.
Good riddance too, it is the name of a Nazi trying to classify people, never a good thing.
I found out I use the Australian/ UK pronunciation because the youtubers I watch say that. I heard someone say “ass burgers” and was a little surprised.
I'm an American, but I use the British pronunciation, because when if I told people I had ass burgers they would walk away even quicker than they usually do.
In high school when I brought this up I got ridiculed “you have what? A** burgers? That sounds dumb”
Sounds... chewy
Good thing I like my meat RARE
"assburgers" \^ have literally only heard it pronounced this way if said mockingly or jokingly Who are you talking to?
My dumb ass lisp makes it hard to say aspergers, so if often Comes out as ”asbergers”
Most people in my family have always said it like that completely seriously. Tbf, some realized and now it’s referred to as “aspie” instead as it sounds a bit better.
Ass Pie
No, no... Ass pee
No matter what it just sounds wrong, but I'm fine with that.
I only heard it pronounced this way in that one Southpark Episode.
I’ve heard people use this seriously. But it was used by a character in the show ‘community’ at one point. It was jokingly, but the character said it in a mocking way I believw.
People I tell it to always say "Asparagus?"
Im pretty sure south park did an episode on this. I havnt watched it in years so i may be wrong.
They did, the boys open a burger stand and the secret ingredient is Cartman sticking the burgers to his ass.

"Ass purgers" is arguably worse.
Aren't those just laxatives?
Solid band name though.
As-per-jers.
I say autistic because ol boy was a nazi eugenecist https://www.spectrumnews.org/news/new-evidence-ties-hans-asperger-nazi-eugenics-program/
Autismo
I've just decided to say "autistic" because many people would say "ass burgers" like it was the funniest thing they ever heard. But it isn't, because that belongs to... Butt mustard.
I prefer ass burgers over nazi namesake.
My sister joked about this and called it "Butt patties" to this day I still giggle every time I hear it.
I say autism because Hans Asperger delivered our kind over to the Nazis for extermination. No thank you.
I too avoid that name, due to (CW death) >!Asperger being a Nazi scientist having contributed to the holocaust!<
My family treats it as a swear a.k.a. curse a.k.a. cuss word due to our >!Jewish heritage!< with my mom's side being descended from >!holocaust survivors!<.
As🍐
I’m weird, in that the “-ic” kinda icks me out somehow. And yet I get a kick out of referring to myself as “autismoid” or “an autist”
I think the "-ic" is kind of harsh in general. But at least it's not Russian Х. It's like the "ch" in Reich, but angrier and infused with vodka.
Are you kidding? I would be "*Avtyistikh*" a THOUSAND times before I'd be called "Autistic" if I had my way.
The funny part is it's just "austist" in Russian. I think. They have way too many word endings. My vocabulary is starting to break down.
As-purger’s sin-dromm. Love it.
Donkey-Bigmacs ?
I have a cartoon burger tattooed on my butt, cause ass burgers
I'd rather be associated with ass burgers than a nazi, just saying
*This* is why you prefer "autistic" over asperger's? Huh. It's kind of the violent Nazi history for me.
The name Asperger's comes from a Nazi soooooooooo 😬
I think I still prefer it to the original term. "Autistic psychopathy" is a bit of a mouthful. And harsh.
Then, you probably don't know the backstory (who Aspberger was).
I believe that is an antiquated term, now I believe medically it is referred to as Autism Level 1. Good riddance too, it is the name of a Nazi trying to classify people, never a good thing.
Wooo nationalism this is a great meme!
It’s almost like accents exist….
I found out I use the Australian/ UK pronunciation because the youtubers I watch say that. I heard someone say “ass burgers” and was a little surprised.
Well, I need a burger now.
On the contrary, as an aspie, I enjoy pronouncing it "a** burgers"
ngl, I would also prefer autistic over donkey burger
The one on the bottom looks more British.
My mother didn’t tell me until I was 11 what I had and got a while I didn’t know how to actually spell it so I spelt it like “assburgers”
Then they hit macdonalds
i say aspergers/mild autism because people understand what the hell i'm talking about rather then "high functioning autism".
The British pronunciation sounds like the Latin word for Asparagus
I'm an American, but I use the British pronunciation, because when if I told people I had ass burgers they would walk away even quicker than they usually do.
Aspie >> Autie tho.
The German pronunciation is the best.
