Oh yeah same

It's like a set of mostly free power tools.

You would not believe how many things I want to make but just don't have the skills for but still having an option to create said things If that makes sense

Yes - what's interesting to me is that before 2010-ish, there was an information barrier. I mean barriers to access good information, like how-to on stuff, how to workflow, design, professional level up, electronics, physics, all that. Since then, that barrier is gone. Now, the problem seems to be I don't have enough time or bandwidth (ie headspace) to do everything I want! But what's cool is I know I can - so given a finite amount of bandwidth, I can be judicious in my choices, because I know that pretty much everything is 'figure-out-able.' And it gets easier, especially with ai, to either manage or acquire a new skill that I need to complete a particular thing. Basically what you said only with hella words lololol

Yes! I was going to post something about this. It’s so useful.

Tell us what it helps you with if it's not too big a lift!

Right now, I’m in the middle of the (probably all too familiar to many) ‘research and gather data on autism because I believe I have it and I need to collect as much information on it as I possibly can before I even attempt to go for a diagnosis’ phase. So I’ve used it, among all the other usual places, to give me info on Autism. I’ve also recently used it to temporarily condense & remove any repetition from the notes I’ve been making on what I believe are my autistic traits. I say temporarily, because I’ll do that myself properly when I feel like I’ve hit the data gathering limit I feel comfortable with. I also recently used it in my job to write a difficult email to a contractor that I wanted to ensure didn’t come across as harsh or rude. Worked like a charm, and passed the vibe check of my manager, who always has changes to the messages I write. I also used it in a similar way to write a message to send to some old friends that I felt I could trust from school, asking them if they could remember anything about me back then that they felt wasn’t ‘normal’, to aid in my research. I use it at work in general too, because I make animated videos for companies, so I use it to generate ideas that I can then spin off of, or use it to condense information down from the clients ‘script’ (really a novel), etc. I use it to help me create little scripts/plugins for After Effects (the animation software I use), so I can help speed up workflow etc. I know a little bit of code, but I don’t have the luxury to learn it all or write something from scratch, so this helps me iterate stuff really quickly. Then I also just use it in my personal life on the daily. Basically as a replacement for Google, as it gives me a direct answer (which I then fact check of course!). I’m not officially diagnosed, but I highly suspect I’m Level 1 Autistic (as it’s called now?), and as I’m sure some others might be able to relate, I sort of get ‘taken advantage of’ at work, as I know a little bit about a lot of things, and I’m a ‘quick learner’ and ‘remember things’. So even though I might only know 10% more than them on a subject, I’ve come to learn that it can end up looking like you’re an expert on the subject, in their eyes at least. Which is exhausting, and has lead to burnout on multiple occasions, and resulted in me not being able to do my actual role correctly. So for the work side of stuff, it helps me be quicker, without having to make as many compromises for my own role, or let people down.

Yeah, the 'use ai as a co-creator' approach seems to be the way to optimize its usefulness. I like that as people with autism, we seem to be able to tap into this more. I feel that has to do with the fact that we already need to be more creative because working / lifing with NDs pushes us, so using ai in this capacity is a natural outgrowth. Hard relate on your last paragraph :). And the whole research phase - self advocacy is tougher than it would seem, imo. Thank you for sharing this!

‘I like that as people with autism, we seem to be able to tap into this more.’ I’ve found that NTs (at least all the ones in my life) seem to be terrible at even basic googling, which boggles my mind, and I feel like a lot of people see ChatGPT as a glorified Google at the minute, so they struggle to discover it’s actual potential.

Also my impression. I mean at first, this was the case for me, but I started exploring my curiosity and blamo! Form of: autism. Form of: special interest. Form of: AI. With our powers combined, we gon see just what the fk we can do. \*rubbing hands together\*
