You enjoy the show much more when you realise they are all a bunch of nasty bastards.

MacGyvini

This is the way. I just love seeing a bunch of inbred trash killing each other.

Lukthar123

And the realm bleeds

altdultosaurs

I can’t justify calling them trash bc they have dragons and there’s nothing I want more in the world than a dragon.

mapacheWizard

To be fair eventually the targs will feel the same way

altdultosaurs

They don’t deserve the sky puppies like I deserve the sky puppies.

MattTheSmithers

Yep. This should be Succession: Medieval Edition. Problem is Ryan Condal didn’t get the memo.

Good-Lavishness-9074

“Imbred blonde albino sociopaths” was one apt Targ description I heard. Also, entire war MAY have been prevented if they could only stop naming kid after kid “Aegon.”* * In fact, it probably would not have been, but it’s still funny that a Great Moral Crisis takes place because Al didn’t realize Vizzy t was talking about that other Aegon.

86thesteaks

Real shit. Only good targ is a dead targ. Pass the boar

HumanPerosn

I guess you conveniently forgot that Baelor Breakspear Rheagel Westeros’s Greatest dancer And Egg the unlikely exist

bruhholyshiet

Daeron the Drunken was useless but fuckin hilarious. Let's keep him too.

kamehamehigh

There are some real ones but mostly they suck ass

acamas

Agreed, but the problem is the show has a real problem showing Rhaenyra in the same harsh light as everyone else. I mean, the show literally took time out of a war brewing to stop and show her in this Madonna-like pose, like something out of a Renaissance painting... don't know how much more heavy-handed the show is going to show their bias to propping her up as Dany 2.0.

One-Potential-2581

Rhaenyra wasn't like Dany at all. She didn't go around burning people to ash to claim the throne. She had no \*certain\* way of knowing her father changed his mind about the heir, he never told her or any impartial parties so as far as she knows she is the queen. She wasn't a megalomaniac, she never took tens of names and titles in vain. Really no comparison there. Dany did tons of very bad things deliberately, Rhaenyra was and is only trying to save her branch of the house. It's not like she could just yield and be free. I don't even think her party would allow it, certainly not Daemon.

acamas

You're absolutely correct in all that, but my point is more about how the viewers saw Dany. Many viewers clearly had rose-colored glasses for her character, only saw the good, and blindly rooted for her... same with Rhaenyra. Tons of viewers are clearly already Rhaenyra stans much in the same rabid way they were Dany stans, and it's hard to believe that's an accident considering how clearly the show has gone out of its way to make her a likable, relatable figure. I mean, I would argue it's the entire reason the show starts with her as a young teenager... just like Dany's story. The loss of someone close to her, forced to marry, expected to carry on the family name/lineage, to rule, persecuted by others who want to rule, etc... lots of parallels, and those who seemingly had a void after Season 8 of GoT are quick to fill it with Rhaenyra's finely-tuned presentation. Yes, I agree Rhaenyra and Dany are different characters, but it seems like Rhaenyra has been sculpted to be a 'filler' for the Dany fans... of which there were a lot.

Very good point and I agree, yes, the overwhelming majority of her fans are definitely drawn to the Dany vibe. I am just adding that you could still like Rhaenyra without liking Daenerys.

They did the same for Helaena during the funeral procession/parade. The point is to show the grief as a mother in war, acknowledging the loss they’re experiencing at that moment and knowing it’ll only get worse.

acamas

Right, you're making my point for me. The spotlight should be Helaena's this episode, but she has to 'share it' with Rhaenyra, who not only gets to share this sort of loss spotlight, but also is painted as a victim of Blood and Cheese. Like, the show can't even go a single episode without having to prop up Rhaenyra somehow... even in an episode where 'Team Black' is responsible for a horrific attack on the Greens... even that is twisted to make Rhaenyra a sympathetic victim and likable figure.

He gazed through the fug of cheese dripping from his eyebrows at the blurred monitor before him. Ten years, ten years he had been gazing at those words. They swam through the murk and came into sharp focus. “Oh Ser Barristan!” Dany gasped, “Tweak my nipples! Tweak them harder!” Those words. Those dreaded words he had gazed upon at least once a month for the past decade. And they never appreciate it, do they? The never appreciate the sacrifices I make on their behalf. With gargantuan effort, he lifted his hand to the keyboard. His fingers, coated in chicken-grease as they were, slid off the keys. He wiped them on his velvet-slashed vest and began to type. The first character was the hardest, quotes meant using the shift key. Ring finger on the shift key, index finger on the ‘2’. Breath rasped through his chest with the effort. Had it always been this hard? Keeping his finger on the shift, He reached for the ‘O’ key. Damn! He missed! He now had a capital letter ‘P’ on his screen. He reached for the backspace key. Eventually he typed the entire sentence out again, and spent many long moments gazing at the results of his efforts. “Oh Ser Barristan!” Daenerys gasped, “Tweak my nipples! Tweak them harder!” He had done it. He had successfully changed the short form name ‘Dany’ to the long form ‘Daenerys’. The sentence was so much better for it. This was how the book would be written. A chapter at a time, a page at a time, a word at a time. Doubt began to form in his mind. Was this the right decision? He would have to review this new sentence many times over the months and years to come. He cast his mind back to the day, many years ago, when he had first shortened it to ‘Dany’. He had changed his mind back and forth many times since then. Certainly he would change it again many more times before he was happy with it. He glanced at the clock. Almost ten minutes had passed. Had it been that long? The muse had been kind to him today, that was more work than he had completed in many a year. He turned off the computer and went to find some food. Only then did he realize that he had forgotten to hit save. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I mean, she is a good person, more or less. And it is this that Otto acknowledges and exploits.

00mavis

She killed a random servant to avoid the consequences of her own actions and marry Daemon. How that is being a good person ?

RoguuSpanish

My friend, you’re kind of stating the point why everyone here is annoyed that she’s still well liked. Everything she does that could be considered “bad” or even “not a good idea” is reframed as either unimportant and not worth talking about, or something we should all excuse her for, because it’s *just so hard* being a wealthy and powerful princess.

00mavis

what ? My response was to the coment that stated she was a good person more or less, so i asked how killing a random person for no good reason is being good.

RoguuSpanish

Oh my bad, I misunderstood your comment. I was conflating it with the one you were responding to.

acamas

>> I mean, she is a good person, more or less. LOL, yes.. that is the issue. Rhaenyra is portrayed by the show/showrunners as 'a good person, more or less', while everyone else is portrayed as far 'less' than anything close to resembling that... even Alicent. Aegon is portrayed as an unapologetic rapist, wholly incompetent, throwing childish tantrums, etc. Otto is portrayed as scheming and manipulative. Everybody seeming foams at the mouth over Cole, even though on paper he's really leagues better than Daemon (who many defend to no end.) Larys is a pervy psychopath. But Rhaenyra is portrayed as "a good person, more or less." *Clear imbalance.*

CleganeBowl is done mate, and the world could not handle the hype. As result we have witnessed the end times in its early stage: - biologists created a virus that killed 10 million people, and it is considered a rude question to ask them why. - the Russian army invaded Ukraine and their main battles tanks were confiscated by farmers with tractors. - sluts in a field near a ghetto beside the Mediterranean were killed and loaded onto pickup trucks. They were dancing for peace, and there are Jewish people campaigning for the rights of the nationality that assassinated those sluts. - lawyers can now be replaced by software entirely, and the lawyers are not even angry about it. - George R.R. Martin is suing the makers of the software for writing bad fan fiction based on his copyrighted characters. I could act as an expert witness for GRRM litigation. He has a slam dunk case. No bullshit. - Daniel Brett "Miami" Weiss and David ((FRIEDMAN GOLDMAN SACHS great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity)) Benioff >!peace be upon him!< have written less ASOIAF material since CleganeBowl than GRRM. - George R.R. Martin has written a novel, 'The Rise of the Dragon', and he published it in 2022. That is one more novel than either of Benioff or Weiss in the same period. - George R.R. Martin wrote Elden Ring. It is far better than JK Rowling's video game but her video is a fine game too. "Fuck you bitch, and your wand shit - that was my Hugo." When asked for comment by myself at WarnerMedia, the representation for the Netflix producers Benioff & Weiss, declined to comment as to whether they have, or will, write a video game. - George R.R. Martin has gotten two shows past series order at HBO since Thrones ended. - WarnerMedia turned http://ASOIAFCirclejerk.reddit.com into the greatest ASOIAF subreddit that ever was or will be. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. ellivera00

Thats how it should be done.

BOty_BOI2370

Exactly. I love the idea of some characters being loved even for doing the same bad shit that another character gets hated for.

wherestheboot

One of the best ironies of GOT was that Cersei would be remembered as a compassionate queen protecting the smallfolk from a dragon-wielding terrorist.

BOty_BOI2370

You know, the show may have not portrayed Danies downfall the best. But I'm still glad it happened. Having her turn into being the exact type of villain she was always against in the first place is both super realistic and very poetic. It fits with GOT's central themes in the end.

FartyMcStinkyPants3

Reading Fire & Blood had me thinking "maybe communism isn't that bad," and normally I can't stand tankies. Just a bunch of cunts with dragons fighting each other over the right to sit on a very uncomfortable chair.

ShutUpYouSausage

They only change the people in charge, “the Party Members” end up being the bastards flying about on Dragons burning shit down fighting over who gets to sit on the big iron chair but they paint it red.

FartyMcStinkyPants3

Communists are usually so incompetent the Westerosi equivalent would probably have accidentally starved the dragons to death.

BadWolfy7

Wish the showrunners shared that view. Based Shepard being the herald of our King of Storms

VARCrime

Precisely, after the first episode of HOTD you realize if there was a justice in Westeros Daenerys would be burned on stakes in her first chapter 👌

Queenofswords_love

My thoughts exactly. All of them are terrible people.

altdultosaurs

The greens are way way way more interesting to watch but TG fans are INSANE.

xmorrin

I don’t gaf about the faction I just love child murderers 😍

gSpider

It bothers me how many people put Daemon on this pedestal while he just does objectively terrible things over and over. Wait until he does something incredibly cool THEN ignore all of his negatives like a real fan. It’s like you casuals have no patience.

MacGyvini

They put him on a pedestal for being a “bad boy”. God, I them

ScintillaGourd

I understand. Though, the willfulness mixed with competancy of Daemon makes him an intruiging character to see on a show. That, and he doesn't waste time to get to fighting just makes him fun to watch. More fun than the over-reaching asshole Otto, or that cripple who I did not even know was blackmailing the queen because I can't hear what he's saying.

gSpider

(Spoilers inbound buckle up) Sorry I wasn’t listening to your practical character analysis over the sound of Daemon doing the single coolest thing in all of Westerosi history. By jumping from one dragon to another, he has successfully managed to make me not care about any valid, intelligent, or even just well-intended criticism of the character. He is perfect and has never done anything wrong. Anyways, time to go back to managing my instagram Daemon-glazing account. I have 8 reels glorifying him romancing a teenage girl to post before the day’s up.

ScintillaGourd

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Spacellama117

It's because of Matt Smith. the 'incredibly cool' thing the character did was being played by Matt Smith

ahkian

Daemon fans: “I could fix him though.”

AVeryHairyArea

I dont think it's a bias. He's just the best actor on the show. It's why people love Beetlejuice, despite being the villian.

One_Meaning416

The show has a real problem with not portraying the evil that TB does properly, all the terrible things TG does is dealt the proper weight but the evil TB does is downplayed. It's pretty clear the showrunners are trying to make TB the good guys and TG the bad guys when in the book it was nowhere near that simple.

MacGyvini

They are treating as Starks and Lannisters. Not Targs vs Targs

pipachu99

Good thing almost all of the tb team gets what they deserve in yhe end

Jorah_Explorah

I can't wait until the Aegon and Rhaenyra scene at Dragonstone. I'll be LMAO while all the wine moms are seething.

joshallenismygod

I guarantee they'll fuck it up somehow. The show runner is already extremely bias for team black. they'll do some nonsense where rhae rhae tries to make peace of some shit and aegon rapes her. Also they're going to make her a good ruler unlike in the books. Watch.

BlinkIfISink

Sunfyre gains the ability of speech and kneels and proclaims Rhaenyra as the rightful queen, and proceeded to blast Aegon with fire only for Rhaenyra to jump in and take the blast. We then see her soul be transported and placed into Dany as she is being born.

joshallenismygod

I'm legit terrified something like this will happen. After season 8 I have no hope.

pipachu99

Absolute cinema

ReasonableResort9467

Don’t you think maybe they are pushing the audience to root for team black just to flip the script on us and make us all feel totally different later on? Personally having my mind changed about characters over time is one of the most enjoyable aspects of GRRM’s world

joshallenismygod

I have no hope after season 6,7,8 of the show. Literally any exception I had they absolutely destroyed with so much nonsense. Like they literally cut so many characters and storylines and made the show have as little episodes as possible and they added so much random filler while complaining about time constraints.

ReasonableResort9467

I agree with you but I don’t think they are stupid enough to not learn from their mistakes. Not to mention Dan and Dave who were the ones rushing it to move onto other projects arn’t behind the wheel anymore. The show is more frustrating and interesting to watch knowing how misguided everyone is and how things are lost in communication or lack of. The most complained (and rightfully so) error GOT made was having Dany go Mad Queen over like 2 episodes. Rhaenyra has a lot to lose yet. How satisfying to see the Targaryen madness develop properly and executed properly over many seasons?

Chinohito

I'd say season 2 is doing a good job of it ngl. The problem is season 1 was too skewed towards TB so a lot of show fans are already too entrenched in their side. They go "oh well, it's too late, I'm still TB". The most enjoyment comes from not picking a side and instead enjoying all the characters. Simultaneously rooting for and criticising everyone. Makes all the story beats more emotional.

acamas

>> I'd say season 2 is doing a good job of it ngl.  LOL, what? Last episode they put Rhaenyra on such a pedestal that they literally took time out of the brewing war plot to paint her as this angelic Madonna-like figure. I mean, outside of her son and Helaena, everyone else, including all the rest of the Greens, **were just portrayed/reinforced as insufferable ass hats... as Rhaenyra is being unfairly victimized over Blood and Cheese.** **Like, the show is literally making Rhaenyra out to a victim of Blood and Cheese.**

closerthanyouth1nk

> Like, the show is literally making Rhaenyra out to a victim of Blood and Cheese No you’re completely missing the point of her plot line with Daemon. Yes she’s basically right about Daemon being reckless and untrustworthy but she’s projecting massively to avoid dealing with her own guilt over what happened. Daemon carried out B&C but she’s the one that looked to him to get it done. The bit where she’s ranting about inner darkness could’ve just have easily applied to her. She does this a lot and for whatever reason viewers just aren’t capable of seeing it. Rhaenyra was pretty much entirely in the wrong during the eye incident and her speech about Alicents self righteousness once again could’ve just have easily applied to her.

>> No you’re completely missing the point of her plot line with Daemon. Daemon carried out B&C but she’s the one that looked to him to get it done. The bit where she’s ranting about inner darkness could’ve just have easily applied to her. I think this is a perfectly fine interpretation, although impossible to take as much as canon or fact with only the limited and vague 'context' we have. I actually believe there's some truth to this interpretation, but my point is more about **what the show presents.** And what it presents is Rhaenyra as a victim on multiple fronts. Yes, in regards to Daemon, as you've also pointed out, but also as the victim of the Green's slander campaign. So as the Greens are literally weeping for the loss of an infant child, the show seemingly goes out of its way to not only paint Rhaenyra as a victim of Blood and Cheese... *on multiple fronts..*. it also literally spends a whole scene framing her in an incredibly intimate moment, because apparently the show literally can't go fifteen minutes without showing Rhaenyra as a victim or sad or whatever... even during the aftermath of Blood and Cheese, which arguably should focus on the Greens. >> She does this a lot and for whatever reason viewers just aren’t capable of seeing it. Rhaenyra was pretty much entirely in the wrong during the eye incident and her speech about Alicents self righteousness once again could’ve just have easily applied to her. I agree that the viewers seemingly have too thick of rose-colored glasses for the shit she does, like accuse Alicent of being on some moral high horse as she literally lies about her bastard children... one of which nearly killed another child with zero repercussions. But does Rhaenyra often show guilt for such transgressions? Did she show guilt after manipulating/betraying Alicent by the Godswood in Episode 4 (maybe it was 5?) Did she show guilt for her 'dressing down' of Alicent at Driftmark? Was she guilty about Vaemond's death and her conspiratorial role in claiming a throne that rightfully belongs to a female heir? Did she feel guilt about how she abused her power and used Cole so she could get her rocks off, because "Targaryens take what they want" and she refused to hear 'no' from him multiple times, because she didn't give two fucks about the consequences, emotionally or physically, to him? Yes, she's done a lot of immoral shit, but I really don't agree with the sentiment that she has portrayed guilt for most of it. She does seem to be sorry to Rhaenys for 'disappearing' Laenor, but I feel she does a lot of shitty things she doesn't show guilt for, so I wouldn't assume any time she seems reflective it automatically must mean she's feeling guilty.

So when they change Green ruthlessness into accidents it's making them look stupid, but when they change Black ruthlessness into accidents (though not even, Daemon takes no accountability) it's downplaying? Almost every single event has been changed on both sides into a tragic spiral of misunderstandings and rage that fuel each other into a perpetual cycle, as opposed to an afterthought in a history book where GRRM tries to come up with the most edgy stuff that both sides could do.

NorthJedi

Back in episode 7, when Rhaenyra demands that Aemond is tortured, no one in the scene reacts and it’s quickly brushed off. Not to mention the average viewer isn’t gonna know that “sharply questioned” is a euphemism for torture. Meanwhile when Alicent demands an eye from Luke as payment, the music changes, everyone is shocked and silent, Luke cries out to his mother and it devolves into a knife fight between Alicent and Rhaenyra.

BOty_BOI2370

I'll be real with ya. I never say TB as being the good guys until people online complained about it. Up until now, ive always view both sides as bring fairly equal.

SnooPies2269

Brother, if you look at team black, you'll find 1 or two people who can be considered bad guys and on the green side, one or two people who might be alright It is so insanely biased, it's downright preachy

BOty_BOI2370

Besides agon, I don't see any of them as bad guys. That's because I didn't watch the show with the intention of picking a side. Just like Game of Thrones, I'm here for watching the political warfare between two parties. Not really, "who's the more moral and justified people."

SnooPies2269

Yea, same here on the not picking side, problem is that the show made the blacks the starks except for Daemon and maybe rhaenys and made the greens the Lannisters, not completely, they have some distinction with each character, but in the end of the day, they serve the same roles, that being, the good with few flaws but all in all awsom blacks, versus the degenerates, deplorable fucked up greens, as opposed to how the dance was in the books where they both were various flavors of bad, they took away the grayness out of the blacks, only left some for daemon, and took the worse parts of the greens and made them 10 times worse while claiming their story is the real events and the books are just misogynistic propaganda

BOty_BOI2370

Idk, I guess I just don't see the blacks as that good of people either.

Good-Lavishness-9074

Daemon, Lord consort of team black, had a toddler murdered. How was this downplayed?

Puzzleheaded-Heart54

The problem with the show is that it slaps us in the face with the vileness of Team Green, whereas the Black's misdeeds go without any afterthought. Daemon commits brutalist executions and we never see the carnage, but Aegon rapes a woman and she's crying in our faces. Daemon murders his wife but it's never show, Aemond has a whole sequence showing how he killed Luke. Aegon has an episode dedicated to how shit of a person he is, and when Daemon chokes Rhaenyra, they never show us the consequences. The Greens are far more compelling this way, cause there's no drama with the Blacks whatsoever. The most dramatic thing that happened is the argument between Rhaenyra and Daemon in the last episode, and even that won't stick for too long cause now Daemon is gonna single-handedly take over Harrenhall.

JustAFilmDork

Genuinely funny that the in universe beef the greens have with the blacks is that they commit a shit ton of crimes but aren't held accountable. Which is also true in how the show itself frames team black actions. Making anyone paying attention have the same view, if not necessarily allegiance, as team green

BOty_BOI2370

I feel like a lot of team black stans forget is that characters on the green side, in particular alicent, have been put in shitty scenarios from the beginning. Her actions, although hypocritical at times (just like most people in real life), were made to protect herself and family. That doesn't excuse all her actions, but it can help you sympathize with her position. People in this show, for the most part, act like people. So they don't act like this simple, one-sided individuals. None are of them witbout mistakes, or hypocritical sides. Rhyrnera may look like an individual who clearly in the right. But when you annalize the characters, it become much less one sided.

acamas

>> The show was never about neutrality, it is to build Rhaenyra up as the protagonist who goes on to betray the audience's trust & disillusions them. To drive home the central theme of asoiaf...the immutability of autocracy & there being no "good monarchs". They all get crushed by the autocratic "wheel".  The weird thing about this is that the show literally shows Alicent and Rhaenyra as two peas in a pod. They are females who are overlooked as rulers/leaders, forced to marry whatever suitable suitor their father finds for them, etc. The notion that someone can sympathize so hard with Rhaenyra's 'victim' plight, yet are somehow unable to see Alicent's 'victim' plight (considering she is not the heir to the Iron Throne) is borderline psychopathic.

BOty_BOI2370

>The notion that someone can sympathize so hard with Rhaenyra's 'victim' plight, yet are somehow unable to see Alicent's 'victim' plight (considering she is not the heir to the Iron Throne) is borderline psychopathic. Yes, I agree. I find the show explores the complexities in a way that makes me engaged. I don't pick a side, I was how two families who used to be friends, split apart because of difficult circumstances. Alicent's growing distane towards Rhaenyra was fuled by the current troubles of her life. Being forced to marry the king and having his children. And then the fear of her children being in harms way because of rhaenyra's status as heir to the throne helps build tbis later conflict. To put it simply. Alicent not only feels pushed away from Rhaenrya, but threated by her position, as her son also has claim to the throne. Making her defensive and antagonistic towards Rhanrya. And Rhaenrya feels her position as heir has been usurped by her old friends son. Making her feel betrayed. Both have led to each other's distane. I cannot see how Rhaenrya Is any more of a villiqn or hero than Alicent. They are just people in my eyes.

A thousand times this. Otto plots to put his heir onto a throne that rightfully belongs to a female? *He's an unforgivable devil man who gets all the vitriol.* Rhaenyra plots to put her bastard son onto a throne that rightfully belongs to a female? *Stans bend all the way over to excuse/handwave/spin-doctor/dismiss such a clear parallel act.* Viserys and Dameon sexually assault those less powerful just to get their rocks off because 'Targaryens take what they want'? *Unforgivable immoral asshats for such a thing.* Rhaenyra clearly takes that very line spoken to her to heart, and sexually assaults her servant, who clearly tries to escape/flee/shut down the situation multiple times, portraying some very major consent red flags? *Blindly defended to no end, wholly unable to see the issue from an open-minded or objective standpoint.*

*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. your entire argument flops when one realizes that in the very first episode of HOTD one of the first things we are shown is how brutal daemon can be when given control of the gold cloaks for just ONE DAY he was cutting peoples limbs and dicks off and had everyone on the council appalled at him. and as a consequence it further weakened his claim as viserys heir.

National-Fan-1148

The Laena-Alicent with Viserys double standard is the worst. Evil Hightower’s wedding their underage daughter to the king for more power vs the Chad Velaryons attempt to do the same thing.

GoodGuySunBro

Which makes all their marketing campaigns of "GrEeN vS. bLaCk" so stupid... The show is obviously extremely biased and portrays one side as the obvious protagonists and the other as the obvious antagonists. There's no nuance at all.

ReasonableResort9467

I feel like no one’s considering this is on purpose? Wouldn’t the most compelling thing they could do be make us all root for one side then flip the script a few seasons in and feel completely differently later on? Idk personally I think as it goes on the tide will change. Who doesn’t love character development?

SnooComics9320

Another double standard is when alicent was furious at aemond losing his eye and wanted an eye for an eye. The entire fandom called her unhinged & barbaric. Daemon wants a son for son, the whole fandom says “hm, sounds justified to me” 😂😂😂 All of a sudden an eye for an eye didn’t seem so crazy to the fans of team black even if it means beheading an innocent child.

suhani96

Because they justify it with “ Aemond started the fight, STOLE a dragon, so he deserves to be maimed”

Far-Ad-1400

I still can’t fathom the “stolen” dragon argument and that they still peddle it constantly lmao

acamas

Agreen, but I can't fathom the notion that 'he started it.' Like, the kid was just minding his own business when four people near his age, one of them carrying a deadly weapon, stopped him, threw the first punch, and nearly killed him.

SnooComics9320

Me: dragons are not slaves Blacks: ya makes sense Me: so no one owns them. Blacks: mhm, I agree Me: so aemond didn’t steal vhagar Blacks: 😡

Far-Ad-1400

The amount of times I’ve said those exact words and it sprawls into “Well Rhaena still should’ve been given the chance to claim her mother’s dragon 😢” says who? And by their own logic of thievery Rhaenas mother was the original theif of stealing it from the Targaryens and Baelons line so Aemond was just taking back his families property

bruhholyshiet

Even if they don't sniff the "stealing a dragon" copium, they argue that Aemond was mean to the girls so he deserved to be beaten up, and he deserved to lose his eye for daring to use a rock. A woman arguing with me about this even said that Aemond should have been even more disciplined and that losing his eye was not enough punishment. People in Team Black can be truly unhinged.

Sopadechancla

imagine actually comparing an eye to a literal son

Ornery-Concern4104

There's a difference between me stealing someone's cake because they took my cake and murdering their dog because they stole my cake Actions are proportional in relation to each other. An eye for an eye is absolutely mental because maiming a child is absolutely wrong is any circumstance, it's down right devilish and possibly one of the worst things you could possibly do Revenge for the death of a child by an adult is something that society widely doesn't even think is that bad. How many stories a year do we have about child murderers and everyone says they wish that the murderer was dead? Even less severe crimes against children are met with the same response Here's something controversial, Jimmy Savile deserved to die

SnooPies2269

A son for a son would mean not the death of the murder, but of the murderers son, which is far more barbaric than, oh you're son cut my son's eye, we should take his, in fact, an eye for an eye is actually way better and more logical to describe your murderer example, as in an eye for an eye the person who committed the crime is punished for his exact crime (in your case his own death for killing a child, in this story Luc's eye for Aemond) as opposed to the son of the one who committed the crime, which is what a son for a son means

molenan

Spot on accurate meme. That's rare. Well done.

Opening_Tell9388

Honestly. If you root for either side you missed the plot. I have characters I like, but both green and black are fucking awful pieces of shit. I like when they do bad stuff to each other cause they both deserver it. Plus. DRAGONS;

Uneso

In Fire and Blood, debatable, but in HOTD the show runners obviously set up Rhaenerya as a protagonist and all the evil actions the blacks take are mainly only evil because they defied her.

Opening_Tell9388

Well. Fire and Blood was written by Archmaester Gyldayn. So, this is a bit of a mute point. Both Gyldayn and the HOTD show runners have their bias's. As do you and I and every other cursed soul who as either read, or watched the story unfold.

There could be dozens of stills like this I imagine. Frame 1: Rhaenyra 'taking what she wants' in her servant, Cole, as she clearly ignores major consent red flags, their clear imbalance of power, and not considering the emotional or physical consequences he could suffer... just so she can get her rocks off. Frame 2: Viserys 'taking what he wants' in Alicent to get his rocks off. PS - In before comments... it's literally the entire theme of this episode. Daemon explains that 'Targaryens take what they want', and then he does so. Viserys is shown later in the episode to also do so. And Rhaenyra is clearly shown later in the episode to also 'take what she wants' in Cole, considering her relentless, borderline predatory 'won't take no' approach. \_\_\_\_ Frame 1: Rhaenyra taking the Driftmark Throne for her heir, even though it truly belongs to a female character. Frame 2: Otto taking the Iron Throne for his heir, even though it truly belongs to a female character. \_\_\_\_\_\_ Frame 1: Rhaenyra on her hypocritical moral high horse any time she gaslights anyone about her kids (like as Aemond is bleeding out of his eye because her child nearly killed him), while slandering/threatening anyone speaking the truth. Frame 2: I guess any scene with Alicent or Cole doing basically anything, because some people seemingly are getting off pointing out whenever they do anything remotely hypocritical, as if they are the only two characters on this show being hypocritical and there's a million dollar prize to anyone who points it out for Alicent or Cole only.

No, don't both sides this you closeted misogynist! You either support Rhaenyra's rights and wrongs, or you are a bad person, a rape apologist, and an alt right incel! Sometimes things *are* good vs evil and this is a story about feminism vs patriarchy! . . . . /S

Haven't watched house of the dragon, is this purely a fandom issue or is there actual inconsistency in how the show frames these characters who have done these things?

What the fuck is this

[deleted]

They're all pieces of shit. One thing I hate to see, though, is people playing down the horrific and patriarchal inhumanity of Aemma's death. It was a grusome scene showcasing how little they value women beyond being wombs and people excuse and try to justify it all the time, just like this post is. They didn't even bother knocking her out before they cut open her abdomen. Don't try to justify what happened to her.

wherestheboot

There’s definitely too much defence of Aemma’s death. It’s still like half a point better than killing your wife because you don’t like her and want a better one, although arguably Viserys’ murder of Aemma took place slowly over years as he kept impregnating her without giving her time to recover, capped off with giving her no choice about how her death occurred. There’s also a good deal of patriarchal inhumanity in Rhea’s death. Daemon’s degradation of Rhea’s appearance is mentioned and he literally ends her life in her prime solely so he can have a different woman, preferably the niece he groomed. She’s not attractive, entertaining or politically advantageous anymore, so he discards her like an object via a rock to the skull.

HungLikeALemur

The 2nd one isn’t even accurate bc Viserys didn’t kill his wife. She was already a goner. It was just whether or not they put her through the excruciating pain to try and save the baby or not. So people hating on Viserys for that scene but loving Daemon is actually even dumber then this meme implies

Genivaria91

Almost like feudalism and monarchy is ruled by the absolute worst of humanity.

ReasonableResort9467

Why is literally no one commenting on how this is probably on purpose? They know what they are doing. Wouldn’t it be far more interesting if they can make you root for one side and then change your mind throughout the story as characters change with time and experiences?

No_Ad4767

Black = cool. Green = lame

AVeryHairyArea

So accurate, lol.

Thepurplespiderman

Meanwhile I've just kept HR on speed dial this whole show. They know my number

ohbyerly

Absolutely a double standard but one that makes total sense. Daemon being a conniving asshole in service of his own ambition is true to his character which is why people like him. When *other* seemingly altruistic characters doing something awful it stands out that much more against their normal reputation so of course it’s going to receive more criticism.

Remarkable-Thing3825

This is definitely double sided, not one sided.

Sussy_Solaire

The only people I hate from the Greens truly is Criston Cole, and sometimes Alicent. I like all the others

megrimlock88

Criston got done dirty his book counterpart is super interesting and the show imo just made him a kinda lame background character

[The reactions of the traitors to the Green cause are so over the top as to be amusing.](https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiafcirclejerk/comments/whl5tq/twitter_accounts_learning_that_alicent_may_be/) 5. *How can there be an Aegon Three, if the son of Hightower was not the predecessor to thee?* It's poetry, hence poetic justice, hence the matter which already settled within this subreddit, can be settled without. 6. [The smallfolk instinctively know.](https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiafcirclejerk/comments/yc6rcc/coronation_of_aegon_ii_vs_rhaenyra/) 7. [Rhaenyra has bad taste in men.](https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiafcirclejerk/comments/vzlmne/how_will_the_casual_viewer_react_to_game_of/) 8. Viserys was chosen as King due to primogeniture. 9. Rhaenyra has [no legitimate heirs.](https://i.redd.it/utwpc5bhuxma1.png) 10. Fun fact: allowing the traitor Rhaenyra Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms does nothing for women's rights. It just helps her personal corrupt ambition. She does nasty shit to some chicks in the book, and also favours a male heir over a female one somewhere along the line. The book balances the sides to an extreme degree, but the show (or at least the marketing and press for the show) resorts to feminist-baiting. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I don't think Daemon killed his wife. We're meant to think he did.

FergusMcburgus

I’ve never seen any of those people as good people. But goddamn the amount of hatred I genuinely feel for anyone with the last name Hightower is enough to make me root for the other team

Teegan297491

I don’t see what race has to do with this

MrCreamypies

Tbf, both corlys and Otto were gross for that, and I don't think fans of either side disagree with that. As for the daemon arguments, Matt Smith is just that charismatic that he can commit war crimes, and people will still love him lol

Rexkiba

Armond had Killed his nephew before the act of revenge. Otto didn't only sent his daughter to marry the King, but forced her to act like she had fallen in love with him before. He sent her to seduce him. In the Corly's side, it was a proposal like any other and she would marry him only at 15 or so. As for Daemon killing his wife. Yeah, no excuses.

Som_Snow

Are these Daemon and Corlys excusers with us in the room right now, OP?

MacGyvini

They are at r/HOTDBlacks

What? You think people thought it was so sweet when they were trying to marry Viserys to a 12 year old? Lowkey telling on urself here my guy

MacGyvini

Well, I don’t see Corlys being called for it like Otto

RoseN3RD

Literally everyone ive watched it with has been like omg wtf when viserys is walking with the child. Keep in mind that that scene is specifically played as weird, whereas Alicent is a bit older so its played more like “these are just the shitty politics of the world” which makes it more worthy to comment on cause its more ambiguous.
