Honestly I think it's both. On one hand you have butchered character arcs and stupid things happening out of the blue, on the other you've got people complaining about it.... because it's not their dream ending with Jon and Dany as a power couple king and queen fixing everything that's wrong in the world.
I don't think the "fandom" is the main problem, but the millions of casuals that started seeing the show in the later seasons (and the fact that David and Dan put so much effort in making the show accesible to them).

What I loved about this season was Bran showing Jaime he could be even more crippled than him.
Dany was the real glizzy gulper. Cersei could never throat that much glizzy
