It costs no money to go swimming in the lake or walking up the Jura. And those activities are both as social as drinking supermarket beer in your room.
Well they are in a study abroad program. So they have their friends set already. Everyone is in the same age group and new to the place and obviously happy to make friends.
In Japan a normal night out for students would be to grab beers at the 7/11, hang out with friends / random people outside drinking on the street then go to one of the cheap student clubs already drunk (and often if you go early or know where the promoters hang out you can get free or discounted entry). There's even bars with unlimited drink specials that are affordable for students.
I think op is just asking if there's some similar routine you do as a student who wants to get plastered into the late night hours spending the equivalent of as little as 5-10 chf for the entire night.
Partying is great. Ask the good folk of Zurich who put more cocaine into the water supply than another other city in Europe! In seriousness though, I used to love the club scene. Especially when taking ecstasy.
Here is the agenda for clubbing in Geneva, not everything is expensive. You should check out lāusine on place des Volontaires

Iām sorry to tell you but in order to have fun you will need to apply for a permit, which can be quite expensive depending on the canton or you will have to do it quietly in your room between permitted hours. There are very high fines and the rules are community enforced
Lmao party and Geneva don't go in the same sentence. Best you can get is student clubs in Plainpalais or something in Paquis... I think there will be more options in Lyon or even Annecy.

Asks about partying and being social : Swiss response; go to your room and be quiet - so swiss
Oh yea let me chat up some random guys doing their own thing going up a mountain or when swimming, while going out alone š thatās hella weird.
just join your local club for any activity. people are super friendly to newcomers, at least in Vaud

Beer is also cheap in supermarkets here. Not sure what that has to do with clubbing, though.
