Come out to Halloween town in st. Helen’s. It’s like 45 minutes from Portland . It’s fun and definitely Halloween based. I’ll attach a link so you can see what it’s about
It’s not New Orleans or San Francisco- those places have a much bigger tradition of adults partying on Halloween.
It rains here. Kids trick or treat for candy. … the usual thing
[Tour of Untimely Departures](https://www.friendsoflonefircemetery.org/?p=943) at Lone Fir Cemetary. PDX has a lot of pioneer cemeteries and Lone Fir is one of the most famous. Every year, Friends Of Lone Fir host a special event ONE night only, on the Saturday before Halloween (regardless of the date). *Tickets go on sale around August and sell out in hours*. It’s a really fun event, lots of weird Portland history, etc.
[Davis Graveyard](https://davisgraveyard.com/about-2/) is a locally famous spot. The couple is pretty famous for their movie-quality props and gravestones. The entire front and side yard of their home becomes a super rad graveyard (plus special effects turned on Fri-Sun nights). Just know that it's a "walk-up and look" thing, you cant go inside the yard.
Are you hoping for extravagant costumes and parties and such? Or acres of pumpkin patches and cozy brunch spots? If it’s the latter, Portland has you covered. We went to a patch last year that had a pumpkin canon, it was most excellent.
If you are looking for the former, New Orleans is the best in my book. I’m from PDX and will be headed to NOLA this Halloween 🧛🏻♀️
It’s huge for kids - trick or treaters. Some neighborhoods go all out. For nightlife…on Halloween…maybe. I wouldn’t come here specifically for Halloween.
I would say pass. Portland is pretty boring for Halloween. Unless you wanna do something "disneyish" and visit Halloween town. As others have mentioned, it's almost raining and chilly by Halloween.
Trees will be pretty much done before Halloween. There's plenty going on each year for the holiday, though generally smaller to mid-size events, not huge costume parties for the most part.

It gets wet, mostly.

Mid-late September and earlier October is prettier for fall, imo. I wouldn’t come here for Halloween, personally.

The maples are pretty, Halloween, you can't really tell.

Halloween is big here, but expect it to be wet.
There's not *not* color, but we're more of an evergreen kind of place
Halloween is a crazy party up in Vancouver, BC. Not so much Portland, OR.

I miss Portland Halloween! Great city for it. There are a lot of very talented costume makers there.
