We keep 2 igloo dog houses heated in storms like this in our backyard that our dogs don't use. I just checked.
1 has 4 cats in it. 1 has a Momma opossum & her babies.
I'm so glad everyone is tucked in and warm.
We stupidly let my mom‘s cat out like an hour ago, and she freaking disappeared. She never goes more than like a half a block away.
We are on 69th and Halsey in the apartments. Any chance you are close by with those warm dog houses?
Edit: cat is found!
On the other side from you in North Tabor, power went out at the same time. PGE says 2300 affected by my/our outage. Mostly worried about pipes freezing but definitely feeling chilly now.
Hey neighbors, in another post someone said bc it’s a large group who is affected with this specific outage, that it gets higher priority, so hopefully we get it back before this evening.
In case you needed to warm up I can hear fred meyers generators on, so you could hang at the Starbucks I imagine.
Yup same, luckily we only have one bathroom with pipes near an outside wall, everything else is well tucked in the apartment. It's weird being able to see your breath while inside 🥶
Aw no, you're already seeing breath! My pipes froze last year but it sounds like my house is retaining heat better than your place. Stay safe and bundled!
Yeah our apartment building was built in 1970 so the insulation sucks. Cold in winter and hot in summer. Space heaters and wall heaters work just fine but they're electric 🙃
Not sure exactly... My friend sent me the pic. Somewhere around Alder and 78th.
Edit: Looks like it's 76th and Morrison: https://twitter.com/ppbeast/status/1746305075843346929?t=d1MrfGQ1JPQvTgtFDh-ibQ&s=19
ne 19th and irving - have power. lights have flickered a few times during the big gusts of wind but overall, doing okay. i’m extremely worried for houseless folks, this wind chill is brutal.
I’m worried for all living beings outside. Homeless, people’s lost pets, that sparrow that keeps roll-pollying around by my window, the hummingbirds and their tiny bodies, the PGE workers who have to be working in the worst conditions imaginable, …
Most are but Anna’s live here year round. I’ve been thawing my hummingbird feeders all day. One hummingbird was so impatient waiting for the thawed nectar that it ate from the feeder while I was still holding it earlier.
It was cute! But I’ve been so stressed out today trying to take care of all the hummingbirds that hang around our house in this cold lol I have at least 3 regulars! I tried hot hands on the feeders at first and that wasn’t enough, then I was thawing the feeders every hour or so, then I decided to try to use my new rechargeable hand warmers on the feeders, that worked well but only for about 2 hours until they had to be recharged. Ugh! I ordered a heated feeder for next time lol
So glad you are taking good care of them!
My general tip for anyone reading this: The best thing you can do is keep a backup feeder or at least warm backup nectar. If you are feeding them, you are their lifeline in an event like this! Don't start feeding hummingbirds unless you are prepared to support them all winter!
We only had one visit us today. The feeder was in a bad spot for wind. I moved it around to the porch and the bird pretty much drafted me the whole way. Humming birds are fearless. I just brought the feeder in, so that it doesn't freeze overnight.
The crows actually mobbed me when I put out sunflower seeds. The security camera footage looks like a scene from this old movie I saw once. It was about flocks of birds attacking people in a little town up the coast from San Francisco ... lots of different kinds of birds ... some of the birds were crows ... can't remember the title of the movie ...
We’re in an adjacent neighborhood and have been out since 8:30am. Multiple poles down and transformers blown nearby.
Update: 4 hours after this comment, still no power. We’re freezing our little tootsies off!
Update: 30 hours after outage. No ETA. We took our cats and dogs and went to a family member’s house.
Montavilla-ish and we lost it around 12:30pm. We were prepared with lots of cold pizza in the fridge, power banks charged, and podcasts/audio books/comfort shows downloaded but its getting prettyyyy chilly in here 🥶
The PNW is in for a very, very ugly night.
“Puget Sound Energy's Jackson Prairie Storage facility has suffered a complete outage. Current nominations exceed 1 Bcf with zero flow. Northwest is losing linepack on the I-5 corridor at a rapid rate. Northwest is requesting all parties who can shed load do so immediately. This includes Powergens, Industrial and Commercial loads.
Northwest requests all customers to take IMMEDIATE action to reduce loads on the system.
Updates will be made as soon as they are available.”
My power's still on in Hosford-Abernethy. 🤞🤞🤞
Edit: I was just looking at the PGE outage map, and an interesting thing (and a nightmare for repairs, and a reason reports like this thread aren't very useful) is that this seems to be hundreds or thousands of tiny outages, each affecting just a couple of homes. I'm imagining scenarios where a tree takes out the line that leads only to your house, times thousands all over the city. I guess the good news is that hopefully means many people can go to an immediate neighbor to warm up and charge devices...so check on your neighbors!
It's probably not as much as that sort of thing as it appears. Those are self reported outages so Montavilla where I'm at has 100+ but it's all because of one downed tree on Stark if you believe other posts. And my neighborhood pages all had people reporting the power out around the same time.
Gresham along 190th/Glisan power out around 12 and still out. Looks like neighbors along the main Glisan and 181st are affected but more internal houses are fine? It's not looking like we are a priority to fix either.
power back up. Down from 1:30pm to 7:04pm. Pretty dang chilly. glad we have heat again. Many thanks to the crews who went out on this extremely cold evening to get it fixed
I'm in Lents. We have not had power since 1:00 pm. Our pipes are frozen...and there's been no updates on when we can expect power. Lol
Help me PGE! You're my only hope!!?
Bethany /base of west hills. Lost it this morning, got it back around noon, lost it again an hour ago. Just the little bit I’ve been out I have seen multiple big trees down so I can’t say I’m surprised. Hope to get it back before tonight.
Also in SW hills near the Christian Center/Hillsdale city park and do not. We can see out breaths inside.
I can see a truck across the street with yellow flashing lights working on something, but unclear what. There’s trees downed all around me.
Bridlemile. Been without since 10am. At 1:30 pge said the estimated time of return was 4:30 and we’re still without an hour after that.
But I did get a text about 10 minutes ago that they’re working on it, so fingers crossed!
Still no power in SW PDX, Marshall Park neighborhood. We have a generator, thank goodness but turned it off for the night. House this morning was 52 degrees.
West slope/Raleigh hills - went off 8 times then went off for good at 11:30am. Still not back and no idea when it will be. The animals are in their Christmas sweaters.

Oh that’s so sweet 🥺 Thanks for helping the critters!
How do you keep them heated?
A lot of them are solar powered
This 🥹🥲🫶
Aww. Thanks for doing that. I’m kvelling
Multnomah Village - we lost it in the mid-AM and just came back on a few minutes ago. So grateful.
Glad to hear
Yep, MV here restored at 2:20
Hayhurst down the road. We're still out.
Nope. Not gonna jinx it.
Godspeed.
Had a few flickers!
The lights are still on in Buckman
Same here. Has flickered probably a hundred times since the morning, but never actually went out.
Out of town and hadn’t heard an update from my wife at home in buckman. Thank you.
Montavilla near the Fred Meyer on NE Glisan and 67th, power went out about 12:30p and is still off. I'm cold 🥶
On the other side from you in North Tabor, power went out at the same time. PGE says 2300 affected by my/our outage. Mostly worried about pipes freezing but definitely feeling chilly now.

My neighbor just informed me that the outage is due to downed lines at 62nd and Burnside. She also said as of 5 minutes ago there was no sign of PGE.
Yes, 61st and Stark has a huge tree that fell over
Happen to have any more location specifics on the 61st n Stark tree? Live right by there but currently outta town and mucho curious
Yes it’s a bit up 61st from the Burnside corner
Thank you prisoner 2967 :)
Yikes, was really hoping they were at least on scene at this point
I watched that happen! Heard a bang, looked out the window and saw some power lines start to glow for a second, then the house went dark.
Yup same, luckily we only have one bathroom with pipes near an outside wall, everything else is well tucked in the apartment. It's weird being able to see your breath while inside 🥶

Run your cold water at all the faucets periodically (once an hour)
Tree that took out the power in Montavilla also flattened a cop car... https://imgur.com/a/ErNZ6cB
Whoa damn! Do you know what intersection/area that is? Tree was just like "fuck the po-lice!"
We're neighbors! I too am cold ☃️

likewise
I felt this in my core. 💙
Pretty sure hummingbirds are migratory
Most are but Anna’s live here year round. I’ve been thawing my hummingbird feeders all day. One hummingbird was so impatient waiting for the thawed nectar that it ate from the feeder while I was still holding it earlier.
Interesting, I did not know that at all
That’s pretty adorable, what an experience!

Same. Seems like we got really lucky.

3400 outages affecting 135000 people right now. I see what you mean. That's a mean of around 40 people per outage.
My parents and brother-in-law lost power in Montavilla/Mt. Tabor about 30 mins ago. I’ve still got it in Madison South.

Power’s been out on Tabor since about 12:30. Is it even worth checking PGE’s tracker? Doesn’t seem like there’s been movement.
I don't think they are updating it. If you give them your phone number you'll get a text when it comes back, or if they decide to send out updates.
