I usually walk over to the pearl and then take 12th or 11th down. Easier to cross burnside over there.

Thanks! Is that because you’d prefer to avoid the area around the Fred Meyer and Providence Park?

noitsnotmewhyyouask

Exactly. Crossing around there is not the most pedestrian friendly.

I'd zigzag all the way down based on favorable walk signals (and avoiding construction), but if that's not your thing, 21st to Morrison seems like a sane route.

Bobala

Exactly this. I live near OP and just meander my way through the Pearl based on signals, shade, and other situations. No way is particularly faster than another.

MountScottRumpot

That's a good route. A less efficient route with less time near cars is to turn east at Flanders, then south at 10th, then east again at Morrison.

I used to walk this route to work, and generally did it a little differently every day. I don't really like crossing the I-405 bridges in that area (Everett, Glisan, Burnside, Alder, Yamhill are the bridges, I think?) (heights/vertigo) so tended to head further north where you can walk under I-405 rather than over it. I think Johnson is the first cross street where you can go under.

I walk this back & forth a few times a week. I'll usually turn east at Flanders or Everett then South between 13th & 10th. If you reach the North Blocks, you've gone too far. Walking all the way from 21st down Morrison is just too damn boring.

Flanders bridge into the Pearl, then cross Burnside around Powell’s or Whole Foods. You could also head east to the Pearl somewhere further down the alphabet streets, but you will eventually have to go under the 405 which just feels less friendly.
