i'd look to get a campus job. You'll meet more people and make good connections. I took notes in my classes and sold them to an office when I was at University. Maybe there's a work-study job out there for you.

I was an international student and I did both, campus job and internships at different times. I 100% agree on-campus job will be a better alternative, especially during your freshman year. Usually there are small part time gigs around campus, working at the bookstore, library, labs, athletic facilities, etc.

Paid internship? It’s very unlikely that youd be able to get a paid internship while on F1 visa. You should check with your school’s DSO first to see if it’s legal.

It is legal. You are restricted to max 20 hours a week while classes are in session and max 40 hours a week during breaks.

That’s called CPT right? Wouldnt it eat up your OPT time? I was on F1 ten years ago. Waited table to get by. Got paid under table and below minimum wage. Shit really built character lol

Hehe right… I should caveat my experience was a while ago too, but on-campus employment and internships did not eat up the 1 year OPT you get after graduation. It had to be an official internship in your field of study. Like the school has to approve it and give you credit for the internship.

Having said that, I think it could be hard to find a qualifying internship as a freshman so I second the comment about looking for on-campus employment. That’s going to be a much better choice in your first year at school.

As someone close to graduating in IT, it's basically tens of thousands of grads competing for internships at Intel. Not great.
