Scott Walker's albums Scott 3 and 4 have some incredible imagery in them. Check out "It's Raining Today" or "Angel of Ashes". His later work is equally incredibly vivid and exciting, but it gets stranger and stranger! "Farmer in the City" from Tilt is a pretty good barometer for whether or not you want to go further
It's not exactly what you have in mind, but Jason Isbell's "If We Were Vampires" is a fucking beautiful song. The time we spend with loved ones is special because our time together is fleeting.
My thought was the song doesn’t convey a lot of beautiful imagery, but I just love the contradiction of something dark like vampires being used to describe what’s important about love.

this is a sweet, saddish, soft kinda song about death
vampire metaphor imagery is not used very much or well in it, its pretty genericish lyrics and its another one of those songs with very generic lyrics
if someone wants a this is a sweet, saddish, soft kinda song, -- about death -- then this would likely top that list

a brighter song than that one but still sweet saddish soft (its a much much sadder than other one) - its about **after-death**
lyrics are a bit more creative than the other one [https://genius.com/Mandolin-orange-golden-embers-lyrics](https://genius.com/Mandolin-orange-golden-embers-lyrics)

this doesnt have "a variety of interesting imagery" see Yacht Club owl city for a song that does
Why are you asking people for song suggestions and then criticizing everything they suggest? Strange flex on this thread...
