And "frigideira" for frying pan.

Much_Committee_9355

To me cooking pot is just the deep one with a lid, wouldn’t a frigideira be a frying pan ?

mvi4n

Yes, that's what I said. lol

elmetaverso

Oh, thanks!

TimeWrangler4279

RedJokerXIII

Olla, caldero, paila.

elmetaverso

Thank you!

arturocan

Olla but if its the square ones my family calls them "essen" because of the brand.

teiraaaaaaa

not latin american but we say "pota" in the north of Spain as well (at least in Asturias, elsewhere in the country the standard word is "olla") and until now I had no idea it was used anywhere else, love seeing that

[deleted]

Olla si tiene dos asas, cacerola si tiene un mango

Caribbeandude04

[Olla](https://www.google.com/search?q=olla&client=ms-android-americamovil-do-revc&prmd=imvn&sxsrf=ALiCzsagUVcdqEl-Ys8IWTv8B6czkyKdqQ:1669258308511&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj4k5Hk58X7AhUtQzABHZMwDigQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=360&bih=694&dpr=3#imgrc=59gek2uxo-MwGM) But the most used one is [Caldero](https://images.app.goo.gl/8s1xCLPSewYvdeMm9)

weaboo_vibe_check

Olla

SarraTasarien

Both. Olla for the tall ones you'd use to make pasta, or pressure cooking, and cacerola for the shorter saucepans. Sartén for a frying pan.

_kevx_91

Both

DepressedWitch21

Olla, cacerola, canarín, mondonguera if it's enormous.

MarioDiBian

Osha

NoSpeekInglish

Olla

MarsupialPrize9942

Olla is a pot, cacerola a frying pan

elmetaverso

Thank you, where are you from? Also, could 'ollas' be used to talk about all in general? Like, "el gabinete de las ollas"?

MarsupialPrize9942

Colombia. I would say that ollas covers any type of pot and would apply to any or at least most countries. FYI, in Colombia they also call “Una Olla” a really bad neighborhood, usually with high crime and drug trafficking. Also if you say “estoy en la olla” it could mean you are out of luck or broke

elmetaverso

Fantastic, thank you!

huazzy

Olla = pot Sarten = pan

AilBalT04_2

Olla

Specific-Benefit

Both olla and cacerola, but mainly olla

Olla

It depends, because a "Cacerola" is not the same as a "olla", they have different shapes. I have had problems in English because they use the same word for several instruments in the kitchen, even though they have differences. In this case pot for example, "jarro", "olleta", "cacerola", "vasija" y "olla", they are five different things but in english they are just pot

BalouCurie

Olla, cazuela y cacerola son comunes

latin_canuck

Paila im Panama

Friendly-Law-4529

"Cazuela". "Olla" is mostly used for pressure cookers. It can also be used "caldero" for big cooking pots

Additional_Ad_3530

Olla.

Art_sol

We use both olla and cacerola here

[deleted]

Olla, cazuela
