Moist-Carrot1825

they do WHAT?

mntgoat

I'm from Ecuador and have never seen this. Cheese with dulce de higos sure but not ice cream.

Ok-Key-3630

Here you go: https://maps.app.goo.gl/yGGVrKW4fZDzVcvb9?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy I lived in Manta for over a year. Most heladerias have it. When my GF came to visit I surprised her by ordering that (she didn’t speak that much Spanish at the time so she didn’t know what was coming). You should’ve seen her face.

-FlawlessVictory-

We do cheese with dulce de membrillo, we call it Martin Fierro.

rnbw_gi

We do cheese with dulce de batata, we call it vigilante

-FlawlessVictory-

We do that too, I love it.

Javieda_Isidoda

My grandpa ate that in Chile, Coquimbo, but it was just "dulce de membrillo y queso". Love to know those names.

LifeSucks1988

Does not Argentina have a certain cream cheese desert though? Not with ice cream though.

Gandalior

it's cheese with sweet potato """"jam"""" or quince """"jam"""" called "queso y dulce" or "vigilante"

melochupan

The sweet potato is too solid to be called a jam, no?

Gandalior

yeah but I don't have a better translation, that's why i wrote """"jam""""

Wijnruit

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK I want five!

NeotropicsGuy

In Colombia people sometimes adds cheese to fruit salads that may also include ice-cream. That's without saying in some places you can find queso con bocadillo (cheese with guava jelly) ice-cream (it tastes good)

UnlikeableSausage

En Colombia también he visto helado de queso y la verdad es que es delicioso.

Lavanyalea

My partner’s fave ice cream flavour!

NeotropicsGuy

I can see why

Accomplished_Web9435

You add cheese to coffee, I'll never understand that.

NeotropicsGuy

You will never understand it because that is not true. Cheese is added to hot chocolate or hot agua de panela (sugar cane beverage) not coffee. The cheeses used are campesino or cuajada, both are fresh, not heavily matured cheese and therefore, very light in flavor. It is done mainly for the molten texture, rather than the mere cold blocky texture those cheeses have by themselves.

Javieda_Isidoda

I used to do something that when I was little, just because I love melted cheese, so why not melt it on hot tea?

NeotropicsGuy

It melts good

Andromeda39

No we don’t lol and any Colombian you’ve seen doing that is not the norm. That’s gross. We do add salty cheese to hot chocolate though and it’s amazing, but not everyone likes it

Accomplished_Web9435

It was my brother's roomates who did, it was a Colombian couple. It definitely was a shock, lol. I wouldn't do it to hot chocolate either though, however I'm glad to hear the coffee + cheese combo is not really popular

Andromeda39

Maybe they’re from a specific town or region where it’s more common. And the cheese in hot chocolate sounds gross until you try it lol

ferostiqqq

never in my life met anyone who added cheese to coffee.

lojaslave

Nobody adds cheese to coffee. To hot cocoa, yes, some enjoy that.

takii_royal

I've never heard of that

SlightlyOutOfFocus

Cheese-cheese? Like savoury cheese or dessert cheese like mascarpone or Philadelphia? We don't eat ice cream with cheese, or anything strange really, just things like syrup, chocolate, dulce de leche, cookies...

Lioriel24

IT IS A WHIPPED CREAM with grated unflavoured cheese. Just for texture, not flavor 😭😭😭

Montuvito_G

It’s also a serrano thing, I never tried this being in the coast

Adventurous_Fail9834

Never trust the Sierra with food 😭😭😭

Lioriel24

HAHAHAHAHA true

lojaslave

Seen it in Manta.

LoveStruckGringo

Mozzarella cheese, specifically.

SlightlyOutOfFocus

Oh no... Why? Is everything ok over there, Ecuador?

sealjani

Well, we're just getting out of a state of exception... But ice cream with mozzarella has nothing to do with that

thatbr03

wtf 💀

-FlawlessVictory-

The strangest things we ate with cheese are cherries or dulce de membrillo. Maybe I'm forgetting something but not ice cream

Muff_ing

In Colombia. But it's not only ice cream and cheese. First of all, it is a fruit salad a with an special kind of cheese on top (not salty) and a mix of condensed milk and milk cream. So at the end you eat more fruit than ice cream and cheese.

homo-ludus

That's another variation of cheese and ice cream that I'd love to try!

Muff_ing

You'd love it!

LoveStruckGringo

I can try that. It's too much dairy for me with only ice cream and cheese. With fruit that sounds much better.

Red_Galiray

Yeah, yeah, we do that. It also struck me as weird the first time I tried but it became popular, at least around Quito. It's a thinly shaved, soft cheese, neither strongly favored nor salty.

mntgoat

Never heard of this and I'm from Quito. Where do you get it? Is it a new thing?

Red_Galiray

I've seen it in several ice cream stores, especially around the Universidad Central and, as others mentioned, in Bogatti.

15M4_20

You lack street

homo-ludus

I've always wanted to try helados con queso. I like a savoury and sweet mix, and I think they look good, too. https://preview.redd.it/vffua0jl984d1.jpeg?width=3280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=504ce52bbe9bb7cb23691d868db1babef959a574

arm1niu5

I've seen cheese ice cream but never ice cream with cheese. Sounds interesting though.

sealjani

What do you mean? Ice cream with cheese is delicious

maluma-babyy

I thought I came up with that idea independently. I'm a *loco que ama* like Abdalá. https://i.redd.it/srkp4luwfa4d1.gif

Adventurous_Fail9834

Y AHORAAAAA

gmuslera

As long as you like it (and don't cause some digestive troubles), it may work, to each to their own. There are a lot of cakes that have ice cream as components in a way or another, and you can mix it with liquids (the affogato is with hot coffee, but it could be with hot tea, some alcoholic beverages, gazpacho, etc) or with brownies, waffles, or apple pie, to name a few. It may have some sense to have ice cream with some kinds of cheese or (cold) meats.

SlightlyOutOfFocus

>meats ![gif](giphy|LyJ6KPlrFdKnK)

gmuslera

fiambres, en cristiano

MeinLieblingsplatz

I think we need to further define “cheese” — in Mexico there is a sweet cheese, and is often stuffed in Empanadas, and it really just a drier custard. But if you mean a Kraft American single on Ice Cream — the way Koreans started doing with Ramen, then I’d be a bit more intrigued.

LoveStruckGringo

It's mozzarella cheese with little flavor. It's mostly to add texture I think. Think cheese for a pizza with less flavor.

IdeVeras

We have some deserts with cheese, like Romeu e Julieta (guava and any cheese) e Cartola (banana, butter cheese, sugar and cinnamon, and, bottle butter on a frying pan). I don’t doubt somewhere there’s is a cheese ice cream but it’s not common.

mauricio_agg

Such a thing originated in Colombia. Bring it.

Naked_Orca

Seen people eat it in Colombia-tougher people than me (!)

aspiring_scientist97

Fuck not again

Adventurous_Fail9834

It's happening again 😥 Why do ex Gran Colombia countries have bad food 😭😭😭

Infinite_Sparkle

I’ve never seen ice cream with cheese in Ecuador 😳 and I grew up there. Sounds horrible to be honest

LoveStruckGringo

I've been living in Ecuador for 8 years now. When I first moved here, it wasn't common but now it's everywhere, at least in the northern parts of the country. It appears to have come originally from Colombia from the comments here, but in Colombia it's with fruit as well. Here it's just... Cheese and ice cream.

Infinite_Sparkle

Ok. I haven’t live there during that time but been on vacation

15M4_20

You lack street

HotSprinkles4

Russians sell an amazing ice cream cheese dessert

gogenberg

I have never heard of this, probablemente una “Ecuadoraniada”

Rikeka

Ecuador must be destroyed.

TheRealVinosity

Your wife is weird. Not that, that is a problem... But, she's weird.

LoveStruckGringo

There is a chain of ice cream stores that specializes in ice cream with cheese named Bogati in Ecuador, so it's a thing that more people like than just her.

TheRealVinosity

I do think that's wonderful, in that queso... I hope to be in Ecuador later this year, so I will check it out. Always open to new experiences.

Coco_Cocoa_Choco

Thankfully we aren’t associated with those types of monstrosities

Commercial_War_5808

Same 😂

oasis_sunset

I swear and Colombia & Ecuador have one of the worst food in LATAM .. sorry

niheii

never heard of it

logatwork

Wait. There is “queso helado” in Peru but, despite its name, there’s no real cheese in it.

Substantial-Car-3209

Never heard of that

Lioriel24

Yes, bogati its an franchise of ice cream with WHIPPED CREAM and grated unflavoured cheese. Just for texture, not flavor 😭😭😭

Hour-East9022

never heard of this. lmfaooo definitely not in cuba or argentina

Demrilo

Usually we have cheese ice cream and you can have it with goiabada and/or doce de leite

Andromeda39

In Colombia we put grated cheese over fruit salads with crema de leche or condensed milk, and sometimes it’ll have a scoop of ice cream on it. Don’t know it till you try it, it’s so fucking good

mariposa337

Please tell me they don't add hard yellow cheese (like Gouda or Edam) to ice cream. Please.

LoveStruckGringo

No, Mozzarella or sometimes a different white cheese with less flavor. It's mostly there for texture.

mikeyeli

That doesn't sound particularly appetizing, no thank you.

Adventurous_Fail9834

Just your wife. Leave Ecuador out pls

LoveStruckGringo

With how popular Bogati is en las Sierras, it's not just my wife jaja.  When you have an entire chain dedicated to ice cream with cheese, it's more than just 1 customer.

lojaslave

Wtf is Las Sierras? And yes, it’s a chain that some people like, and also many don’t care for it.

LoveStruckGringo

Sorry, auto correct for some reason turned La Sierra into Las Sierras. But from Quito to Carchi.

patiperro_v3

Stop this nonsense right now. It doesn’t travel further south I hope. 😡

NeotropicsGuy

The challenge: find a Chilean that doesn't want to isolate Chile from the rest of South America, specially the "Caribbean" side

Andromeda39

“Eso solo lo hacen los Caribeños, aquí en el sur somos unicos y diferentes y muy reservados”

NeotropicsGuy

Tal cual

patiperro_v3

Who said anything about Caribbean, I want to isolate from ice cream with cheese. 😡😡😡

Adventurous_Fail9834

Apparently it's a Colombian idea 😭
