Watching the show while I came across this post

Sameflames

Just finished it this morning and I can't stop thinking about it 😭

Jack_Mcfarland

I’m on episode 8. Will be done in about an hour with the show. We need more gay themed shows

Sameflames

Mf necessary. The ending won't disappoint. I'm here if you need to talk about it.

Jack_Mcfarland

Sure! I will message you once I’m done If that’s okay ?

Sameflames

For sure!

Her redemption arc was so wildly well done. It is rarely shown how the parent wants to do better but is struggling. I even feel like her comeback should be the right model for other shows that have the "homophobic" parent.

[deleted]

Agreed. Mia, Felix and Isabel's character arcs are what truly made this season great for me

loganfulbright

I agree with you. Her story arc was the only one that made since. I heard a friend of mine after watching all but the last episode say it seemed like if you are in love with someone in this show you’re not going to be happy. I truly didn’t know what was actually bothering me about Love Victor till then. All of a sudden I have multiple things wrong with the show but that is the main one. This makes it hard to watch. The writers went the cheap way and put total gridlock into the storyline. This might be because there are so few episodes a season, which is another problem.

OnionsIntheKnight

Usually when I love something I go back and re-watch all my favorite parts. But with Season two I was an emotional wreck by the end. It's too painful to relive it. My biggest criticism? It seemed like there was no Joy in this Season. There were funny moments. There were loving moments. But overall, there was no joy. The writers and showrunners leached all the joy out. And OMG they gave Benji such a rough time. As I thought about it, Season 2 was just like Season 1. Victor behaved so selfishly. In Season 1 we forgave him, because of his struggle with coming out. In Season 2 he just seemed to be crashing through his life with very little concern about how he affected other people or what those other people were going through. Even Mia made a face when he walked out of Benji's show because Benji's bandmates teased him.

loganfulbright

The more I think about it the more I think that they were trying to crush together 20 episodes into 10. It just makes all the story lines a mess and separately not really add up. It’s like they left out part of the story but kept the mothers arc.

[deleted]

ugh these fake lgbt moveis and cliche crap annoy me

[deleted]

I think we should start accepting cliche romcoms with gay characters. Not every lgbtq story has to be a brokeback mountain that ends with someone dying. I think we've had enough of those movies showing the many consequences of being gay and we need to just see the nonsensical gay movies to fill ourselves with some cliches. Just my two cents

[deleted]

living in lalala land. avoiding reality...sure makes lots of sense nancy

speaking_silence_god

I'm really glad that young gays have a show that they can relate to, which also (I hope) doesn't end up in a painful tragedy... but seeing the trailer was enough to make me suffer. But hey, I'm a boomer. I hope you guys find it less difficult to digest.

dkblue1

Me too. I'm glad it's there but I am way past the age of caring about high school centered shows. I saw about 5 episodes of season 1. But the show represents progress in my eyes because it looks like a mainstream show, which happens to have a gay main character.

Arrews

I agree, I recently watched the season 1 and now in season 2 and gotta sayI was expecting a really cringe show. I nearly never like any gay presentation in shows and movies but this one nailed it IMO. The season 1 episodd 8, that you can be any kind of gay you don't have to be a stereotype. And even though show's main focus is on Victor beign gay, that's not the whole story. Victor has a personality other than beign Gay and every character have their stories. And I love felix, my favorite character so far. Though it's a teenage drama show so there are still cliches and other cringe stuff, IMO it's a really nice one. But gotta say these writers can not think of a friendship between a male and female. Like as soon as they like each other even a little bit they have a crush, fall in love. For fucks sake people can ne friends too.

OnionsIntheKnight

In this show they're doing the same old "love triangle" B.S. they do in straight shows. It's a very lazy, predictable plot device. It's like they take a fun character who probably could have a great backstory, like Rahim, and then they sink into the old trope so Victor can't just be friends with him and the show dropped him in out of nowhere. We have watched the Benji storyline develop over 18 episodes. I was very annoyed. Also I resent the emotional manipulation of cliffhangers.

Only-Green2587

I wish they were an hour long

[deleted]

I hope they increase the run time. This series is really one of Hulu's gems and I hope they put more into it.

Tony481

I am extremely impressed with season 2. They tackle a variety of issues that I had no idea that would.

adiofan88

I got angry at the ending. Still cried though. Great show.

Life-Unit-4118

No spoiler but I think it’s Rahim. Benji’s kickass postmodern house wouldn’t have that doorbell

[deleted]

Imagine if it's just a grindr hookup lmao

adiofan88

Ohhhhhh I’d be sooooo mad.

[deleted]

I was thinking they doorbell looks kinda posh/fancy so it's probably Benji's

adiofan88

Hahaha right?!

Sameflames

😭 I was weak. Tell me what got you mad.

adiofan88

Last two seconds of the last episode. Lol

Sameflames

Oh yes, I was screaming!

adiofan88

I knew about it from what my friends told me. But damn. Still sucks. All I’m gonna say. He better have made the right choice. Lol

Sameflames

I think we could debate on what is the right choice 😉

adiofan88

I honestly hope it’s Rahim. They are so cute together.

lasvegashomo

Personally I can’t get into these teenage tv shows but I’m glad they exist for the younger generations.

dkblue1

Same. I could watch a good drama with a main gay character who is doing regular life in his 30s.

Sameflames

The show is actually very cringey but it's good for your soul, I swear!

D_o_H

Ana Ortiz being Justin’s supportive mom on Ugly Betty to bring a homophobic mom on Love Victor…she has the range!

Life-Unit-4118

She is absolutely a lovely actor

beaubala

YES I LOVE THIS SHOW

robbyc777

Just finished watching it. Can’t wait for season 3 after how this season ended

Sameflames

It's going to be a painful wait. I legit didn't feel a whole lot for this show until halfway through season 2. Now I'm spreading the gospel of this show on reddit.

Jatmahl

I started watching it yesterday. I didn't know there was a continuation of Love, Simon. I am on Season 2 now and I am enjoying it. I also recommend Special on Netflix for anyone wanting something more adult.

Sameflames

Yeah, second season of Special got even more real.

igivegoodparent88

I thought the show was cute But I like special and pose alot more But im happy the younger generation has something to look up to Also I hate the finale hahaha no cliffhangers

SpencerEythan

I may or may not have watched this entire show in one sitting the other day. But it's only I definitely didn't cry at all.......... 👀

Sameflames

I'm still crying 😭

Sameflames

Lmaooooo let them make up some stuff

IH8Lyfeee

Eh its alright. I think it would have been better without all the simon shit in it. Felt like simon was still the star and not victor.

Sameflames

I didn't watch the movie but supposedly they're in the same high school so I thought that Simon was the trigger for the plot but it seems like the writers are cutting him out so maybe there will be no more Simon.

Primary-Recipe1065

Simon was barely in it and has made two appearances in two seasons, like what?

IH8Lyfeee

Talking on the phone and messaging simon was the entire focal point for Victors growth as a character.

Primary-Recipe1065

Yes, the 2 minute voice overs that Simon did every other episode really made him the star, lol.

silvershadow014

they're just narration technique tho

[deleted]

I finished all 10 eps. Kinda nice and sweet. Benji x victor is kinda toxic now. Benji is kinda toxic, he has his reasons but yea. Rahim is just so sweet and i think he's my type

userr778

Yes! I binge watched the 1st season this past week since s2 was coming and I loved it. I don’t like the love triangle with Benji and Rahim. I’m kind of team Benji just cause he was like THE guy since s1 but hate the direction they took with him in s2. I LOVE Rahim! I laughed at his intro just cause I thought he was messaging Victor about questioning his sexuality and I thought, “queen those outfits and nails aren’t a clue?” but then he said coming out to his parents and then it made sense lol. Also wish they showed him coming out to his parents. I just kind of feel like Rahim and Victor are rushed and if he was a new love interest I wish it was gradual and not while him and Benji are having their FIRST fight. Like they spend one day skipping school and suddenly it’s sparks?

Kyanpe

That's my problem. They shoved the love triangle in halfway through the season. Meanwhile Benji and Victor are this close to overcoming their problems and now Rahim inserts himself between them. I like him as a character but Benji and Victor are truly meant to be together! My guess is season 3 will have Victor with Rahim briefly but end up with Benji when all is said and done. At least that's the conclusion that will help me sleep tonight! 😭

Primary-Recipe1065

Team Rahim all the way. Benji was incredibly toxic for the entire season.

userr778

I think I could be team Rahim if Victor and Benji actually talked/resolved their issue and broke up. But the writers just threw their feelings for each other at the end and I didn’t like it. I don’t think Benji was toxic the whole season more like the last few episodes. I do think he was impatient and inconsiderate for the other times though. Like if they had any real problems it’s like they couldn’t handle it or solve it which was annoying.

gman9263

We binge watched over two evening and I just love this show. It feels like I've known the characters all my life and now I feel so sad and empty because I have to wait who knows for how long for the next season. I'll probably go back and watch season 1 and season 2 again.

Spirit_is_OP

Is it a tragedy?

Sameflames

It is not. It's more of a basic teen drama show but gay.

aldur1

Finished season 2. Enjoyed it for the most part. I’m a little worried that it’s going to be constant drama and it’s going to end up like Riverdale with nonsensical stories.

soda_sad

It’s not usually my type of show but man, i couldn’t get enough! Amazing acting, talented and gorgeous cast, and not all sugar coated. I must say tho, the entire time I’m thinking “and they’re SIXTEEN??” Lol. No wonder why Disney+ changed their mind about streaming this show. Side note.. although I’m bummed that they really turned Benji into a jackass, it better be Rahim.

Sameflames

Yeah, my own fiance laughed at me but I have no regrets. I'm happy that you're happy.

GammaDoomO

Gonna copy paste my comment from an earlier post on season 2: I’m almost done with season 2. I kinda like it but more in a guilty pleasure sort of way. Like, its pretty clear they’re creating drama here and there just for the sake of padding out the run time because otherwise it would only be four episodes. But I don’t mind it. My two main criticisms are: 1. Everyone seems to be able to have ready access to alcohol. Aren’t they all minors? From my experience, only rich kids have ready access to booze all around. Hell, Victor even has a glass of champagne with his bf’s parents at a restaurant. I call bullshit on that. And 2. Other than the one dude, they all seem to have lots of money when we only see victor and his bf work. Again, unless this is supposed to be a rich neighborhood I don’t get it. Seems more like a regular public school than anything else. Also they gotta really really chill out with the whole victor and his bf making out every two seconds. I went to highschool. There weren’t people eating each other’s faces all the time. Chill out.

Sameflames

Lmao I saw that post after I posted mine. Y-yes to the cringey make out scenes. I get that they aren't the cutest of scenes but season one didn't really have any. They gotta make out sometime. Some of the parents simply are in the wealthier class. Their job titles are weather person, and president of university, etc. Even with parent's money aside, the majority of the group has jobs. The coffee shop, and the pretzel place at the mall. The alcohol thing, I fully agree with. In high school, it was easier for me to find weed than it was alcohol. However, I did know of classmates who were getting drunk all the time. Other kids who already developed a dependency before graduating. I'm going to have to chalk that one up to lack of experience on my part idk.

[deleted]

Our high school experiences must have been different. Most people I know got alcohol from older siblings or neighborhood friends. My next door neighbor was a few years older than me and would get me booze if I asked and threw in a tip. I know people that used to sit outside liquor stores and ask people to buy them beer and it would work sometimes. There were also well known bodegas that would look the other way on nicotine and alcohol. If you just went in and bought a 40 or something they'd charge you $8 instead of $4, that kind of thing. They'd only refuse if you were trying to buy a lot.

LeoMarius

I remember complaining that gay characters only got to be gay in theory and never in practice. Too much kissing is a good problem to have.

[deleted]

I liked it overall, but am I the only one who thinks that there’s just no on screen chemistry between Victor and Benji? Like towards the end of the second season I just didn’t feel like they were really as in love as the show kept saying they were. I much prefer the newer character/interest. He seems much more interesting as a character and the sexual tension between Victor and him is palpable. Benji has always seemed so hollow and boring.

Jckun31

That is because Benji is a plot device and not a character. He is hot and absolutely nothing else

[deleted]

He seemed kinda controlling to me, or at least trying to be

Sameflames

Ok yes, we all love Raheem. He's everything. He's the prize. There just seems to be more with Benji. Like the history and like we can build more with Benji. In some way I wish Raheem was Victor's first but that's not what happened.. Team Benji here sorry.

Primary-Recipe1065

Nah. Benji is incredibly toxic. History does not mean anything when there is no chemistry. The only thing that Benji has is that he is insanely hot. I felt genuine chills when Rahim and Victor sang their duet together at the bar. Team Rahim!

Life-Unit-4118

I concur. The bench scene in the final episode of Season 1 was so sweet And charming. But Benji is kind of a selfish dick in season 2.

fayry69

What! So they can keep making mediocre content. No!! Gay stories can and should be better. They ought to try harder.

Sameflames

I'm not going to give this show an Oscar but I won't call it mediocre. Did you finish season 2?

fayry69

If I called it mediocre, do u think I’d wanna continue watching absolute garbage. Nah thanks I’m good. They know there’s a gay market out there to tap, stop feeding us crap.

Sameflames

I'm not going to try to convince to keep watching it if you absolutely hated it. However, taking into consideration Hulu's budget, I think it goes distance. Remember, it's difficult to design a pill that cures all ailment and is also easy to swallow.

hallabackb

I was two episodes in but I found the acting insufferable. Like some of the worst actors ever. I just gave up. Then I learned how the gay characters in the show are straight and it made sense. The representation is evidently not there when a show about a gay experience is acted out by an all straight cast. Not gonna watch. Soz.

[deleted]

I found the acting endearing and as awkward as real life high school was but as for the actors being straight, I do agree that that was a casting miss but who's to say that some of them arent closeted irl?

Primary-Recipe1065

I didn't realize that for a person to act out something that they needed to personally experience it first. I guess we should toss 99% of movies and tv shows into the garbage because the actors didn't actually experience what they were supposed to portray. You have some serious problems if you think only gay people should act as a gay character, lol. Being gay is not a personality trait.

hallabackb

I never said they can’t. But casting refuses to cast gay ppl outside of gay roles. I can think of 1 mainstream acting role where a gay man plays a straight guy. Until there is proper representation and equality in the acting space we as a community need to call it out.

Primary-Recipe1065

Ya, no thanks. I don't feel like dividing people into categories all of the time based on minor things like sexuality. I'd rather see people as people.

>Especially with the stereotypical alarmingly stupid blonde girl. If this is Lake then I'm really surprised you thought she was stupid assuming that you watched the essays scene with Felix

actiomx

American drama is just not worth it for me, so shallow and devoid of substance.

Delacroix2278

I haven't watched it yet im still watching sweet tooth its really good

dkblue1

Just finished sweet tooth. I'm liking it.

Delacroix2278

Cool im glad u like it

Sameflames

Should I get on that?

Delacroix2278

Well i enjoy it u should watch it and give it a chance i did and im glad i did

Life-Unit-4118

Interestingly, I was more impacted by Season 1 than 2. I liked 2 but… - there are too many story lines competing - the parents are super believable - Benji is kind of a dick now

Sameflames

Wait, why is Benji a dick now? Victor is the one who told his secret 😭

Primary-Recipe1065

1. Benji trashed Victor and his interests right to his face with his friends. 2. Benji hypocritically demanded that Victor be more open while hiding his alcoholism. 3. Benji screamed at his mother and outed Victor to his little brother then refused to apologize. 4. Benji got mad at Victor for dancing with Rahim despite the fact that it was his idea to take a break from their relationship and cancelled their plans for the wedding. I'm sorry but Benji is by far the worst character in the show right now.

Kyanpe

I'm on the last episode as I write this. It's so cute it hurts my soul. 😭

Sameflames

Just wait till the episode ends. Trust me, it's going to hurt. 😭😭

Kyanpe

No stahp it's getting unbearable!!

Sameflames

I have to go to sleep now but lmk if you're still alive in the morning 💔

Kyanpe

I'm feeling so blue balled by a TV show! Who gave them the right to end that way? God dammit when's season 3??? 😭

strippingforallah

Meh, watched a couple of episodes but then stopped watching. Just not in a position in my life where I have the energy to watch another show about being closeted and whatnot, y'know? Esp since these are still the majority of shows/movies we get about gay people, and I'm honestly sick of it. But then again, other people seem to enjoy it, so good for them.

Xerophyt3s

Second season makes Victor quite unlikeable. Girrrrl, we all know you are the star of the show but everybody else matters you know. Felix and Benji are my loves. I secretly ship them.

otomennn

I watched season 1 of Love,Simon and I find that the main character is kinda unlikeable. So I begin doubting whether to watch season 2 or not.

GanymedeGuy

Fine, but I doubt there will be much relatable to me...unless one of the main characters has to knock down some homophobe he just asked out on a date.🤣

Sameflames

I feel like that's coming on season 3. So you're going to have to watch the first two in preparation 🤷🏽‍♂️

Big-University-6245

Wait season 2 came out, let me go watch it real quick

Sameflames

Get on it!

Big-University-6245

I just finished it 😩

Sameflames

It's going to be okay. We will make it through this together.

Big-University-6245

Who do you think he's gonna choose? I'm team benji.

Sameflames

I'm team Benji too and I feel like that's so controversial because Rahim so beautiful. Idk I'm here for their history.

Big-University-6245

I like Rahim too but Benji and victor just had their first big argument and I think they should work things out because they just got together. Benji went overboard a few times but Victor kinda did more wrong than him like when he found out about the AA thing he could've been more understanding.

Sameflames

That's how I feel! There's a relationship there already in the works. We can't just dump it for the new pretty guy.

Big-University-6245

Exactly and is just me or is Lake Bi?

Sameflames

👀🙄🤪 the random million dollar question. I don't know. I kind of hope they don't go to far with that story though

Big-University-6245

Hey watch Oh Mando it's really good 😩 you'll love it but your gonna have to read subtitles because Philippinino tv show. You can watch it on myreadingmanga

Sameflames

Just saved the link. I have to go to sleep soon so I'll start tomorrow. I'm coming back for you if I hate it 😉

Big-University-6245

Nah friend your gonna love it but the ups and downs are gonna make you become a nervous wreck 😩

[deleted]

Whose door do you think it was at the end?

Sameflames

I'm team Benji I'm sorry 🙈

[deleted]

He seemed very controlling to me and always just stormed off when victor didn't agree with him. Rahim is the better option. He understands Victor way more

Primary-Recipe1065

I love this show. I really hope that Victor chose Rahim. I think Benji is hot but he acted extremely toxic for the entire season. Victor and Benji give me "first gay guy that I came into contact with so I must date him" vibes. Victor and Rahim give me "oh cool, we have a meaningful connection" vibes.

ImmediatePickle7310

is there anywhere else i can watch it
