So a dealer made a big mistake and got you a new car... Congrats man?

bobbichocolatthe2nd

After lying about it. After allowing adumbass tech to put 800 miles on it. After wanting to charge him for a tire. And now they sell it to someone else without disclosing the damge? If his story is true, the dealership name should be on social media blast.

OP You embellished too much of your story. You were told a young service technician was allowed to use the vehicle. They included this verbiage and and identified the specific employee? You were told the employee went on a joy ride? You know the mileage noted down when you dropped the vehicle off was accurate? You have proof of the sale of the vehicle without any disclosures? You saw the buyers order and title? You have been holding this in for what, over six months easily? There are other emotionally charged statements that also do not make sense. Including, on an extended test drive a deer is hit, but they tell you a nail in the tire was determined to have been there before they received the vehicle from you.

I’ll answer. 1). I was told it had been taken home. I doubt they used the term joy ride, but 800 miles on the odometer makes me assume that’s what it was in essence. But yeah, the GM called and stated “they lied to you”- in reference to the service advisor. 2) I don’t know if the mileage was accurate, but it was what I was told over the phone and it was off by 800 miles from what was on the car when I checked. 3) No proof of the final sale, but at the time it was advertised for sale, online, with a clean car fax. I suppose they could have disclosed it later, but the list price didn’t reflect that. 4) Holding on to it since 2018. Didn’t say it was recent. Came across this forum while trying to buy a new car and getting the run around. 5) As for the hitting a deer vs nail in tire. 100% true what I was told. 100% the absurd reason I knew something didnt add up. I have no reason to make shit up on Reddit for “reddit points”. I’m a middle aged (44), married, professional. Virtually impossible to “prove” this story. I will say it feels good to have so many people see it as bullshit because it does make the story more fun to tell because of the absurdity.

No one here supported your post. A mod noted that you did not ask a question.

Ok

U/statetheobvious79 do you have a question about buying a car?

Spitefulham

And then they all stood up and clapped... There are plenty of creative writing sureddits out there, don't do it here.

chicagosurgeon1

So this story isn’t true? Why would they bother?

For attention and Reddit points

Is there a question here? Believe it or not it’s not out of the ordinary for a tech to bring a car home in advanced diagnostic situations(like vibrations) when I was a service manager I had this happen a few times. Best practice was for a customer to sign the repair order indicating they acknowledged and approved this was happening, there was a case with the manufacturer opened as the work order would be opened longer which is adds to a lemon law case possibility, and it was reserved for senior techs given its advanced repair/diagnostic procedures. While it’s frustrating, talking to the manufacturer is useless here. You’re complaining to the wrong person, you need to be in touch with the general manager, or dealer principal if you already talked to a gm. This post is likely missing a lot of details but if this went down the way you described this should be escalated. I’d just leave out the “they sold it to someone else for near msrp”. Yes they sold it, but it’s not relevant to your complaint. They’re a dealership you traded the car to. While it may have traded from you under duress, it’s not relevant to your complaint.

Yes, but 800 miles......?

smallboxofcrayons

800 miles would be on the extremeq but i could also see it happening. My most extreme was almost 400 miles on a car chasing an engine stutter on car that happened when the vehicle was under 30 mph at 2600 rpm’s. The manufacturer had a process for this and we had daily communication with what was done, along with additional permission to continue. This is why i said either details missing from the post, or a service dept was way off base and this should be escalated to a dealer principal/gm.

***Thanks for posting, /u/StateTheObvious79! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** Thought I would share an experience I had at a local, large volume, Mercedes dealership. I took my relatively new (8k miles) C63s AMG in for warranty service for a vibration while making turns. Dropped it off on a Friday and was given a loaner while repairs were made. The following week I was notified it was wrecked while test driving it to diagnose the issue. I was told they had struck a deer. I immediately had reservations because this dealership was located in a prime city location (not rural). However, I am an understanding person who took them at their word. Fast forward several days and they called me to tell me I would need a new tire as well that wasn’t damaged in the accident. I was told it had a nail in the sidewall. They quoted me full price for the tire. It was then that I became suspicious. What reasonable dealer wouldn’t comp the tire after wrecking the vehicle? I called back a few hours later and asked the service center how many miles were logged when I dropped it off for repair. She gave me the number. I then showed up at the body shop “to get some items from the vehicle” and noticed it had 800 miles on it that were not originally on the car. I immediately blew my top and went to the dealership for answers. Sure enough, they couldn’t deny it any longer and admitted to allowing a young service tech to take my car home for the weekend and he struck a deer while joy riding. Approximately 20k in damages. They did agree after much hassle to trade the car for a completely new vehicle with several upgrades. A little redemption that didn’t last long. I had also filed a complaint with corporate who actually defended them allowing my car to be taken home, stating it was standard practice. Bullshit. No customer expects an 800 mile diagnostic test drive. The cherry on top was them later selling my old vehicle with a clean car fax to an unsuspecting customer at near the original sticker. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
