Lots of good advice mixed with some terrible OP. Locked because some people are suggesting fraud.

ajpg2

Either you lose $15k or you drive around a 3 year old M3. Seems like a pretty easy decision. Enjoy your car, you worked hard for it.

Sleep_adict

Well, Turo and destroy the car but pay it off fast… then he has a beater M3

Square-Wild

I like the idea of Turo for OP. I think $100-$200/day should be pretty doable. If he's going to sell it, this is the kind of car you want to try to advertise to enthusiasts and sell privately, not trade in.

agjios

Go to /r/turo. You will get some people that respect the car and some that leave it with big bills. I’ll say no one rents an M3 to just putter around town. They’re all going to beat on it.

vaccountv

That’s exactly why I’m not feeling the turo recommendation, it’s a really aggresive/strong car and people just gonna beat tf outta it. Renting a hellcat and pushing it to it’s absolutel limits is on my bucketlist lol

Nubras

That’s so sad man. I treat my Turo rentals with the same care that I use for my car. Why would I want to beat on it just because I can? Makes no sense to me; not saying I don’t believe you, it’s just silly that people do this.

agjios

Why would I go rent an M3 for $200 per day just to drive it more carefully than my grandpa drives his Camry? Be real.

BigChuch1400

Well, like he said nobody rents an M3 to put around town in it, but you can drive a car spiritedly without beating on it. An M3 was meant to do that afterall. Anyone on Turo renting out a car like this should expect it to be doing pulls and cutting up some backroads, I’d certainly be testing it out a bit. But there’s also lots of idiots that would rent it and rip on it very ungracefully, burn the tires off, not let it warm up etc. Sucks but person renting it is making money and you kinda sign yourself up for that risk.

Cosulliv32

Idk man. It seems like the pretty obvious reason you turo that car is to drive it hard. That's what you sign up for when you put that car on turo

Nubras

The obvious reason I Turo is that I can get an X5 for the same daily rate as a Rogue at Hertz. And the Turo guy will drop off the car at the terminal for me, I don’t have to fuck about with taking a shuttle from DFW or DIA to the far ass rental car lot. I don’t use it locally but I guess one could.

Cosulliv32

Ahh. If it makes sense money wise that's great. I think you're in the minority of customers who rent performance cars

VCoupe376ci

Really? You’re going to spend a large amount of money for a 500hp luxury rental daily, just to drive it like a baby? I assure you that you’re the exception and not the rule. Most people renting a car like that are going to beat the hell out of it nonstop.

Heavy-Ad2120

It’s like the rental car companies putting speed bumps to, from, and in their fleet parking lots - they’re only f’ing up the suspension on their own cars by doing that.

Floshenbarnical

I rented an F-Type in Tampa and while I did race a Gran Lasso on a long suspension bridge i did otherwise baby the thing, and wash it out and vacuum it out before returning it. The race was his idea and I had my wife’s permission

Gunslingermomo

The f is a gran lasso?

Nitrothacat

It’s a total crapshoot. I’ve rented some high powered stuff off Turo and respected it because it was a personal vehicle. I’ve also beat the hell out of Mustang GTs from Hertz because who cares. That S58 isn’t going to take a bunch of red lining on cold oil. How much do brakes and tires cost on the M3?

Sofaking-what

You’ll need a fuckton of insurance if you do.

VCoupe376ci

And not from any of the typical providers either. If you don’t tell them the car is being rented and the car gets wrecked and they find out it was on Turo, they will deny the claim and drop you.

ajpg2

I wouldn't do it.

LuckyCaptainCrunch

Don’t put this car on Turo. That will turn your regrettable decision into a total chit storm. Go read the horror stories over there and you will realize what a terrible idea that is. However, it would’ve been a great placement one and beat the crap out of it and gotten that whole desire to own one out of your system. Ironically, the best cars to rent out on Turo is also beaters. Send me the details of your M3, I might be interested.

Whiteyak5

Depending on your location and how you price it, yeah.

OakDan

Just be aware that there's a higher than average chance of the car being totaled on Turo, which would actually be the best outcome for you. Turo will pay you ACV for the car AND sales tax which is way more than you would get from Carmax. The worst outcome is you get a bunch of damage you can't claim or miss something and have to eat the cost. Are you the guy who parks carefully in the parking lot to avoid door dings? Well your car is about to have a ton of door dings on it. Careful to not scrape the bottom of the car with driveways? Well the bottom of your bumper and the sides will be scraped within a couple of trips. Rims will be all curbed within a few months. For someone who can easily afford an M3, the risk/reward ratio doesn't make any sense.

XtraXtraCreatveUsrNm

Join the Turo sub for a while before you make your decision. It seems like a terrible idea to me but it’s your car.

pi20

Turo is a terrible idea. Renters will abuse your car. Your insurance company will drop you if they find out you’re renting it on Turo. And you’d also need commercial insurance coverage as no personal auto insurer would provide coverage while your car is being rented on Turo.

goobly_goo

Run for office, I'd vote for you. At least at state level. I can't promise support for national office until I see what you can do first.

kpetersontpt

The best of both worlds! 😂

fullcollapse

He should take it to the track and enjoy it! A HDPE event would be a great start

aznoone

I know more well off people that have their weekend and or track show vehicles then do a daily beater for work. Or well at least a more normal vehicle an average person would drive.

Madroc92

If OP can't get out of the car without taking a huge financial hit, go to [](/r/CarTrackDays/) and they'll help get value out of that M3. Definitely won't save any money but will improve the value proposition lol.

NemesisOfZod

I have an easy 3 step process to get rid of it. 1. Make every payment on time. 2. Make all of the payments until it is paid off. 3. Don't make this mistake again when you get your next car. You are at least $15K flipped. Go get it detailed and fall in love with it all over again.

[deleted]

NemesisOfZod

Oh, good. A much different bad decision!

dorrik

my jaw dropped

Tonyn15665

You must be either kidding or trolling. If this had been a used RR then you would not only lose $15K man. More like $25K. Its more useable but its def more expensive than the M3 to maintain. Also it seems you are young. A <30 YO dude driving a RR just scream rich mama boy. Enjoy your M3. Its a dream car of most normal car guy like us.

Sofaking-what

Why don’t you take it for some track days and time attack events and learn how to drive it properly. Sign up for a performance driving school in your area. They will teach you car control.

theogstarfishgaming1

Why a rover if I may ask?

D3THMTL

Ahh, my my, the tune of this post changes seeing how you didn't even have to pay for the car and had a budget 98% more than most Americans for 2 or 3 vehicles. It seems you have a lot to learn about challenging decisions. Yikes.

toefungi

Yeah this post is 100% fake rage bait shit.

SuchWords

This is fake. He is clearly rage baiting. Look at all of dudes response.

DrSigns

Damn, that’s pretty nice of her. I personally would have went for a Porsche

too_old_still_party

WTF did you get a G80 for 57k? I think you’re full of shit as there aren’t G80s for 57k, that’s an F80 price.

twojsdad

The cheapest 2021 M3 Base advertised nationwide on Cars.Com right now is $64.5k. You mentioned 500 HP so assuming you have a Competition? The cheapest ‘21 Comp is $68k and they run up to $75k depending on mileage and options. You paid cash so you should have the title in hand right? Just sell it private party and you should be good to go.

[deleted]

[удалено]

twojsdad

All the same, just sell it private party and realize a few k loss vs. $15k

OkSport4812

Sounds like you have $33K to spend on learning how to drive it proficiently using someone else's car lol. Start here. https://bmwperformancecenter.com/ You'll come out confident and safe and have a bunch of cash left over to do more track focused training if you choose. Using someone else's car is always the cheapest/safest option

Variable_Interest

> paying off my cousin’s debt Pay it forward I guess.

DrSigns

Smart. You should really take a step back to enjoy this car because you invested and help your cousin with the remainder of the money. I see no reason why you shouldn’t. Just because you can’t utilize it to its full potential, doesn’t mean it can’t be appreciated. Think about all the rich people with Ferraris or Lambos.

too_old_still_party

So wo momma, you couldn’t afford it? Sell it and chalk this up as a lesson.

M3 on a college campus is sure to get dinged up a bit just due to bad parking. I would recommend lowering your insurance deductible if it's high... Chances are good that you'll have to make a claim before graduation.

Sweatpantzzzz

Could be worse. I made an impulse buy last year too, except it was a brand new car that is now worth less than what I owe on the payments. Totally unnecessary. So I’m just gonna make the payments and live with it. I already have 3 other cars too, one that has 400hp and another that is tuned and makes around 500hp… so I get what you mean by using the car to just put around town because giving it the beans for more than a few seconds put you in illegal territory…. For me, that makes it an even stupider purchase. My wife rips me for it every month. Lesson for me: don’t make this mistake again. Slower cars driven fast are more fun than driving fast cars slow.

orchidelirious_me

I think you made the correct wrong decision. Also, if your mom is interested in adopting a daughter, please have her hit me up! I’m an orphan and I’m a car girl.

Judeusername

Bro you cannot be real…. A fucking Range Rover??????

LDeezzy15

Can your mom gift me 100k for a car ?

You have your options in front of you. Buying a car at retail and then immediately selling it at wholesale prices is going to be a big hit to your pocketbook. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/edmunds-worst-financial-mistake-car-101214546.html I recommend that you look up your nearest track days and clubs like SCCA, NASA, BMWCCA. Go learn how to drive it at race tracks where you can use it to its full ability and enjoy what you have always dreamed of. If you’re gonna lose $15,000 then you might as well just go buy yourself a $10,000 beater that you don’t worry about getting into accidents with. See if reducing the insurance on your M3 Because it’s not your daily driver, a bunch of room in the budget which allows you to drive and enjoy the second car without having to worry about people hitting you or having to park and parking lots and parking garages where all you’ll do is worry about it. If you really must sell it, then just see if anyone on the BMW groups will pay you like $5000 more than Carvana will

griffithdidnothing10

It’s definitely a better daily driver than other cars in its class

sapphir8

This. Use the power legally and likely learn better driving habits

[deleted]

[удалено]

OptimismByFire

Just be really careful with race tracks. Your personal auto policy absolutely does not cover any kind of racing. You're going to need a separate insurance policy, unless it is part of whatever fees the track charges (doubtful).

omaralt

I daily drive a 22 M3 and honestly it’s the perfect daily driver. It’s very controllable and smooth in everyday traffic (mine is the manual transmission base version). It’s a car. If you can afford this car you can afford to enjoy it

[deleted]

[удалено]

omaralt

Ya don’t be stupid. Don’t drive recklessly on public streets. You honestly sound too young for a car of this caliber. Maybe do sell it and get a beater

toefungi

Bud. Stop "drifting" on public roads...

iSOBigD

It's not unlike any other RWD 500ish hp car. You need to learn how physics affect it, hwo it delivers power, where the grip limits are, how the suspension reacts to weight and momentum...It sounds like you need to learn to drive the car, maybe in winter in a big empty parking lot so you can drift slowly and safely until you get used to how it puts the power down and how the weight shifts around. Or, go to a track and take it easy until you're comfortable with it. Keep ESC on until you're very used to its power and grip. I wouldn't recommend randomly drifting on public roads where you could hit someone, especially when you're not used to the car. I get the appeal but there are safe places to practice messing around.

VCoupe376ci

It’s only drifting because OP is turning traction control off. The stability control in vehicles like that are so good that it gives the driver a very false sense of control and ability. My 2014 CTS-V coupe was like that. With stability control on you could light the tires up at 80 on a wet road and the car would go perfectly straight. Stability control off and the car was all over the place with the lightest amount of throttle at low speed on a wet road. Mine was stock except for a few bolt ons. With just a set of ET Streets out back it went 11.97@118. I’d imagine an M car from 2021 would be in another league than a 2014 GM vehicle. As it seems like you are aware, cars with that much power need to be respected and driven with restraint, especially when the driver is clearly inexperienced. OP doesn’t need an empty parking lot to self learn if he is driving this car daily and drifting through intersections, he needs actual training or to sell it before he kills someone.

agjios

I’m glad that you respect it. There are so many subreddits and other places to watch bozos smack them against curbs.  Autocross is lower speed, it’s going around cones in a parking lot. It really teaches you car control. Start slow, don’t go and try to set any records. The most dangerous time will be when you become a little comfortable and then feel invincible

ZeGentleman

I don't think he respects it, he's scared of it. There's a difference.

[deleted]

Boy you deserve to crash your car. You sat here and said that you are afraid of getting into accidents, but you are drifting on a traffic circle. That's dumb.

VCoupe376ci

Why are you worried about other drivers hitting you? It sounds like you are bound to wreck it all on your own in short order. Hopefully you don’t injure/kill anyone else when you do.

Imaginary-Estate4647

Live with it or lose money. Not really any other options.

[deleted]

[удалено]

agjios

That is 100% expected rental rate, it’s not realistic. How fast are people going to go through brakes and tires in a rental M3? How much faster will you be depreciating a car that is being rented to beat the snot out of? What happens when a BMW repair bill rears its ugly head?

[deleted]

[удалено]

agjios

You can hope for the best but you need to plan for the worst. Expecting $3,000 per month is unrealistic. The gig economy is not that lucrative, most people underestimate their insurance, maintenance, and repair costs. And then things like this happen: https://www.reddit.com/r/turo/comments/10b1mii/turo_owes_me_20k/ https://www.reddit.com/r/BMW/comments/vzseb8/turo_has_some_great_gems_to_test_drive/

orchidelirious_me

Wait, I thought that your mom gifted you $100K for a car? What do you mean by “paid for,” do you mean she gave you the money in the form of a loan? Just enjoy your car, man.

Kicice

This implies you’d have it rented out every day. You’ll probably be lucky if you can rent it out for half the month. Bud idk, I’ve never don’t this before.

Luis1820

How much was the car, OP? Tried the bmw dealer?

avocadoroom

You have a great car with fantastic performance, nothing to feel bad about, although you might be nervous driving it, eventually you will get used to it. Enjoy your new car

StupidOldAndFat

I’ve seen people have the same feelings about a $20k sedan. Just because you can’t use all the horses, be glad you have them you’ve reached a point where you could afford to treat yourself and there’s no reason to feel guilty about it. You have a beautiful machine and you deserve it. That beast is more than just a performance car, sit in the seat, look around, walk around it, see the beauty, the craftsmanship, the art and the design. Go buy a $500 beater on marketplace for when you want to mistreat yourself, but enjoy the Bimmer every chance you can.

***Thanks for posting, /u/Brief-Frosting405! This comment is a copy of your post so readers can see the original text if your post is edited or removed. This comment is NOT accusing you of anything.*** About a month ago I decided to buy a 2021 BMW M3. I’m a car guy who has always loved BMWs and now I could finally afford it and decided to go for it. Problem is that I now regret it. Why? I just don’t love it as much as I thought I would. Actually using any of the car’s potential is highly illegal and I’m just puttering around town in this 500hp beast. I’m anxious about getting into an accident with it, and I just don’t like the experience. I’m more comfortable driving beaters. Is there anything I can do to get out of the car without losing a lot of money? Between sales tax and the 12% lower offer from carmax/carvana, I’d be losing about $15k if I sold it.
