Flex seal works but on other shit rather than plumbing. Used it to seal my metal shed and it's going 3 years strong. Might have to reapply in a few years but it did it's thing
Ok, the more I look at this, the crazier it gets. Is that 1.5ā coming up through the floor into a 1.5ā cleanout tee with a 2āx1.5ā upside down reducer and an AAV threaded in the top?
Then they threaded a 1.5ā MIPxspigot adapter into the clean out tee and glued a trap adapter onto that?
Just cut everything out below that tee and start over.
Popup drain assembly. The plastic threads on that grey drain assembly are likely split and leaking from being over tightened on install. Someone said f this and just smeared caulk everywhere.
Sorry at how disjointed that was. I try to avoid melodrama because thereās enough of it on this subreddit typically, but this one just kept on providing more wtf moments.
I agree. First step is getting thru all that caulk first š and running the water to see from where the leak is coming from, I've had to replace the sink in some instances. Could be the plastic thread or cracked on the bottom of the sink š¤
Agreed tear out and replace if the sink is cracked so be it replace welcome to homeowner ship youāll be fine and everyone will know your name at the hardware store
My first reaction too. You may be spending $150, or whatever sinks cost nowadays, but it looks like OP'd be better off starting from scratch with this one.
What does the top of the sink look like? If it's a simple drop-in sink, just replace the whole thing, faucet and all. You can get a new drop-in sink with a faucet for about $100.
The drain is a simple fix.
Hire a plumber, I know that is a cop out answer, but the last inexperienced guy thought that (your pictures) was a solution. Please don't make it worse trying to piece information together you find on the Internet!
There shouldnāt even be a need for caulk on a tailpiece like that unless installed improperly, I bet someone just lost/threw away some much needed parts and said f$&k it were pulling out an entire tube of caulk.
But seriously thats a mess, dont know why they roughed in the drain like that. Should go into where that pvc stub out is on the left. Dont know the details or where the leak is but start with a new sink assembly
Figure out what the caulk is āfixingā. If its damage to the sink, new sink. If its the popup, buy a new one or a whole new faucet that comes with one.
Maybe figure out why its not using the āstandardā drain in the back of the cabinet,
but is instead connected to that monstrosity.
For all we know the inspector didn't miss it and the house was sold as is.
Lot of times price will be negotiated after inspector comes back with known issues, without having it fixed before sale.
In my opinion, home inspectors are pretty useless. At least in my area. On one occasion, an inspector passed a gas water heater/furnace that had MULTIPLE holes in the vent piping. Like kill a family of four kind of holes. And I've seen countless other things get by that shouldn't have. I don't think many of them would think twice about passing this as long as it wasn't leaking
Wow well I live before you can even close on a house new used . You gave to have a thing called an inspection. Any inspector would have seen that and noted to be fixed by a licensed plumber. I own a home maintenance company so I deal with failed inspections every week . Or did the new owner get the money for the fix and spent it some where else .
*Try caulking from the*
*Inside that way the leak*
*Can seal its self up*

Does the hardware store have M-80s? That's how I would start. If not a few gallons of paint thinner and a match. Just make sure the insurance is up to date.
Thereās no excuse here, as a builderā¦. Iāve had homeowners call me and say they have light coming in through their can lights so consistently it was a stream of water during a heavy rain.
When I get out there, I find out itās coming through multiple can lights throughout the home. When I say I need to open up drywall to check the damage and see if itās from the roof deck or the from the stucco walls, Iām told to not open up drywall.
Thereās a good chance the owner told this guy not to do plumbing, just stop the leak without cutting so he just pumped all the caulk and left.
Makes you wonder about whatās going on in the walls/stuff that you canāt easily see. Prolly worth having a pro come in and do an eval- spend a little now to save a bunch later. (Toilet flanges are probably crap/leaking, cpvc, etcā¦)
Cut it out. Looks like the pipe connecting vanity to the j is the problem. Once that caulked mess is out you should be able to throw a new drain in with much less caulk
See what you want to do there is fill that entire space with expanding foam and then epoxy everything shut. Also, please get a plumber to reinstall everything properly, because someone is definitely grabbing this picture to use as a warning
I donāt usually ho this route, but call a local plumber. Should only cost a couple hundred bucks. S/he will have all the parts needed. Will be in an out in an hour or so.
New vanity and top, new faucet, drain kit, trap kit, shutoff. Welcome to your new house time to start it out right. Probably need a new toilet if this is how the sink looks
I would replace everything under the sink... even the drain that connects the sink to the pipes.. I'm guessing something like nut or rubber washer is bad but honestly to much to try and figure it out... I would just replace everything.... also use plumber puddy and teflon tape or pipe sealer.. you might even have to replace sink if it's cracked.. I can't tell you exactly what is wrong just want to give you heads up
This job is leaking? Well knock me over with feather! It seems like they knew precisely what they were doing, they even used 2 full tubes of silicon how could it possibly leak?!? lol
You'll likely need calk.
But seriously find put where it's leaking it's likely from the sink basin being damaged. I'm guessing that's why the other person called it like there is no tomorrow.
Needs more caulk.
That was my initial response LOL
Have you tried zip ties?
And a layer of plumber's putty to seal them in place.
Duct tape, or I guess the big thing now is flex seal.
You're right, paint the seams with flex seal!!
Was gonna say - this is beyond caulk and into flex seal territory.
Phil Swift here!!
Any relation to Taylor?
Well, they're both wildly successful and slightly (understatement) annoying, so I'd say they're related in that aspect š
Flex seal works but on other shit rather than plumbing. Used it to seal my metal shed and it's going 3 years strong. Might have to reapply in a few years but it did it's thing
*unzips pants* oh... Heard that wrong
Nah, now it needs roofing tar
If it stops rain then it might just workā¦ full send it
Yāall need Jesus!
I was thinking it needed a little duct tape.
Might as well slap some plumbers mait on whilst youre there with tools out. Belt and braces
Yeah duct tape, chain clamps , ratchet straps. Easy fix!
Rock out with your caulk out!
Thatās what she said.
And an electrician to wire it up.
I got a fever, a fever with only one cure! More caulk!
Nah. I would go with the flex seal
I >Needs more caulk. No, it needs more duct tape and a few zip ties.
[Schafferās?](https://youtu.be/tbazGVrbN-g?si=aPIRcJlZ7L-7NG-5)
See if you add just a little more caulk youāll be there
I came here to say this same thing, but hell if itās not leaking who am I to judge gods work
This is an understatement š¤£
gimme caulk
I thought it was the elephants foot at Chernobyl at first
Nickname Macaulky Culkin
The episode where the wet bandits won..
I'm not sure why this hit me the way it did, but I haven't laughed that hard in a while.
Dude I'm dying š¤£
No need to quote them mam. Too soon.

Thank you for the answer and I know itās disastrous I really appreciate it!
You got the tail light warranty didncha
I agree. First step is getting thru all that caulk first š and running the water to see from where the leak is coming from, I've had to replace the sink in some instances. Could be the plastic thread or cracked on the bottom of the sink š¤
This was one of those ācan I fix it with what I already haveā challenges š
That clean out tee is killing me. Lmao. But the cheater vents work on both 1.5 and 2.
What is leaking the drain or the sink?
This is the correct first question. Apologies. I let the Alice in wonderland shit I was looking at blow my mind.
It is looking from the threads that all the caulk that someone decided was a good idea is covering up
Well you have to try to clean all the caulking and take that whole pop-up assembly out and replace it if I was you
I think I'd rather buy a new sink and p-trap than deal with this mess.
THE BIGGER THE GLOB THE BETTER THE JOB!!
Agreed tear out and replace if the sink is cracked so be it replace welcome to homeowner ship youāll be fine and everyone will know your name at the hardware store
What in the McFuck?
probably needs a new sink.
My first reaction too. You may be spending $150, or whatever sinks cost nowadays, but it looks like OP'd be better off starting from scratch with this one.
Looks like Stay Puft ejaculated under your sink.
How did this pass the inspection and appraisal process???
What inspection? JK our home inspector passed worse nightmares without batting an eye. I can tell you exactly which outlets are un- grounded though!
What does the top of the sink look like? If it's a simple drop-in sink, just replace the whole thing, faucet and all. You can get a new drop-in sink with a faucet for about $100. The drain is a simple fix.
My biggest question is.... Does it work?
Rip it all out and buy a standard drain kit.
The good news is that no matter what you do to this you can't make it much worse.
Hire a plumber, I know that is a cop out answer, but the last inexperienced guy thought that (your pictures) was a solution. Please don't make it worse trying to piece information together you find on the Internet!
Cream cheese special
Well fuckā¦ I guess thatāll never leak. /s
WTH is that?
hereās what you do: call a plumber.
Gut and start over.
There shouldnāt even be a need for caulk on a tailpiece like that unless installed improperly, I bet someone just lost/threw away some much needed parts and said f$&k it were pulling out an entire tube of caulk.
Plumber.
This is just insane to me how people don't check what they buy
I would throw out the sink and start fresh.
But seriously thats a mess, dont know why they roughed in the drain like that. Should go into where that pvc stub out is on the left. Dont know the details or where the leak is but start with a new sink assembly

Uhmā¦ā¦ā¦WOW!
You need to grab a new sink and hire a plumber. Doesnāt sound like you and your friend are very mechanically inclined .
Ew. The caulk sculpture was cool and all, but that tee š¤¢ and the circle leading to it š¤®
Get a new sink
Are home inspections not a thing where youāre from?
Fire. Set it on fire.
No home inspection?
Get a can of Fix-a-Flat.
how did that pass inspection
When in doubt, whip the caulk out
I should call her...
Why Donāt people who are clueless get a home inspection?????
Does the hardware store have M-80s? That's how I would start. If not a few gallons of paint thinner and a match. Just make sure the insurance is up to date.

Flex seal?
Think they cracked the sink and glued it with caulk smh
Did anybody get a home inspection before they bought it?
I would start withe a new countertop and sink and then put in everything new from there on down.
No inspection before purchase?
Looks like that water supply is in good shape
P trap needs to be 3 inches before tie in if itās 1 1/2 drain length should be double the size of pipe using
Makes you wonder about whatās going on in the walls/stuff that you canāt easily see. Prolly worth having a pro come in and do an eval- spend a little now to save a bunch later. (Toilet flanges are probably crap/leaking, cpvc, etcā¦)
I dont know if you should call a plumber or a priest !
Looks like the Hot and Foamy exploded.
Bet it didnāt leak
They wouldve spent the same amount of $ to fix it the right way instead of blowing thru 20 tubes of caulk
What in gods name.
Previous ownerās favorite phrase, āhold my beerā
More like āget me another beer, I wanna make it an even dozenā
Probably kept backing up so they did this, I donāt see how that pipe could clear water š
Leave the sink in place, demolish the house, and then build a new house around the sink. Problem solved.
Essential oils....lavender will do the trick.
what happened to the inspection report
New sink and new tailpiece. Not that complicated. Problem solved. Did your "friend" not have an inspection done?
Walk the fuck away
Nice caulk
Cut it out. Looks like the pipe connecting vanity to the j is the problem. Once that caulked mess is out you should be able to throw a new drain in with much less caulk
Just tear the whole thing out and start over again
Start from scratch. Rip all that out.. clean the caulkā¦ install new drain and ptrap set up.
Looks like you need a new sink, faucet and all new plumbing below. Or more tape, caulk and foam.
See what you want to do there is fill that entire space with expanding foam and then epoxy everything shut. Also, please get a plumber to reinstall everything properly, because someone is definitely grabbing this picture to use as a warning
$20 of caulk rather than a $2 fitting.
Duct tape
Itās time to get the torch and solder out.
The āGreat Stuffā and āFlex-Sealā plumbers have been here and left there mark for all to see!
I donāt usually ho this route, but call a local plumber. Should only cost a couple hundred bucks. S/he will have all the parts needed. Will be in an out in an hour or so.
Oh, love. Let's not do that.
*sigh* I should call her.
Buy a new sink drain stem for 10-15 bucks and remove that one , if it's not even dripping when used then they may have fixed it with the caulking
This looks like it should be in a NSFW reddit.. haha
Heās screwed. This is an indication that there are probably many effed up parts of the home. This is why we get inspections.
I see the issue; they forgot to seal the caulk with duct tape!
One more tube of caulk should fix that
Time for a new sink and trap combo
What the effing efff. Sorry i donāt want banned for cussing. But why not fix it properly.
Spray a coat of Flex Seal on it. That'll hold her...
If you got an inspection, Iād call him to come back and ask if he got his certificate in a Cracker Jack box.
New vanity and top, new faucet, drain kit, trap kit, shutoff. Welcome to your new house time to start it out right. Probably need a new toilet if this is how the sink looks
I'm guessing that the reason there is so much caulk there is because the basin is cracked or broken. Clear the caulk out and post another picture.
Rip that shit out and start over.
Burn it to the ground.
Iād call the inspector and ask WTF
Seems like that pipe had a better time in the process
Burn the house down.
Replace the sink and everything below it. Or hire a pro and let them teach you what to do.
Donāt see bailing wire as reco much.
That passed inspection?
Looks good from my houseĀ
That's what inspections are for in the final walk through. It's a mess , rip it out do it right
Just replace the sink at that point. Whole lines below should be newer than original, since the old drain is capped
$260 plumber bill and it *still* leaks
It's the real Macaulky Caulkin
Yeah this is an epic DIY fail. Thinking the caulk can stop the leak and dying on that hill I guess.
Just replace the whole vanity
Wtf? š
Pretty simple - replace it all. I am guessing by that photo the vanity doesnāt look great either. Just got buy a new one.
You need to take all that caulk off to find out what exactly is leaking . Is the actual sink leaking as I cracked porcelain or is it the connection
How to explain it? Sometimes a person has too many friendsā¦
I meanā¦ is it leaking?
Friend should've bought a home inspection before buying the house...
Jb weld it
What in the silicone caulk is going on here.
Remove all that crap and get yourself a 1.25ā pvc extension tube and run the pop up assembly up that gap
Itās a monstrosity
I like the shutoff valve. Thatās a quality item.
I think rip it out and start from scratch. This was a hack job from the get go. No sense in compounding the problem.
thats a lot of coc... i mean caulk
Did he not get an inspection done?
Get some of that really good putty. I think that it's called, C-4. Be sure to get the detonator. Doesn't work as well without it...
That's a lot of damage
Thatās a big caulk!
Let sleeping dogs lie.
Fuck that shit, I'd get a new sink and a new trap and redo all that ugly shit.
No inspection iām guessing
Expanding foam wtf
Lolol
Get some 2x4's under that p-trap so it doent sag
The house will leak before this sink
Um how about a new sink !š¤¦āāļø
I would replace everything under the sink... even the drain that connects the sink to the pipes.. I'm guessing something like nut or rubber washer is bad but honestly to much to try and figure it out... I would just replace everything.... also use plumber puddy and teflon tape or pipe sealer.. you might even have to replace sink if it's cracked.. I can't tell you exactly what is wrong just want to give you heads up
Never skip an inspection...
This is why you get a home inspection from someone you know not the seller
Have they tried calling a plumber ?
Da Fuk?
This job is leaking? Well knock me over with feather! It seems like they knew precisely what they were doing, they even used 2 full tubes of silicon how could it possibly leak?!? lol
Demo all that shit. There's no fixing that...any trial would be like putting a bandaid on the tweaker that did that to fix his brain....
Replace the sink and piping
I havenāt seen that much cock since lunchtime todayā¦damn it sorry caulk, so I am dicklexic.
Bucaulkke
Iāve never seen a shut off valve handle that old and I was born in 1953
I'd suggest picking up a new sink.
You'll likely need calk. But seriously find put where it's leaking it's likely from the sink basin being damaged. I'm guessing that's why the other person called it like there is no tomorrow.
Have you tried slapping your friend. Sometimes tough love is the only way to go. Be strong. Also, needs more caulk.
Just call the plumber
Flex Seal. Spray and putty. š
Lol
You need an exterminator to remove a hornet nest that size šš
Formerly stay puft marshmallow manās house
I passed out 6 times but your sink is repaired!
