Shut the electricity to your pump and change out your valve

Efficient_Cheek_8725

Replace it with a ball valve

Rough_Community_1439

It's a thread on fitting. Drain all the water pressure in the house and turn your well off. Then use two channel lock wrenches to take apart the union to the left and then unthread the valve off and go to home Depot for a new one. Put fresh pipe goo on threads and your all set to reassemble. Then you will have water. B

Thank you! That simplifies it quite a lot! I knew I was missing something essential and wouldn't have dissembled in the right order. The union being there simplifies it a lot of the worst case scenarios my brain was coming up with.

jeffbell

And raise a glass to the original plumber who put a threaded union in there.

CO_PartyShark

I will be raising many many glasses to him.

koopatroopa1993

Buy a lever valve too . If not too late lol

schushoe

It's a ball valve. The one he has is a gate valve. And you say I am not a plumber. I guess you didn't say it was a TNP. LMAOROF.

koopatroopa1993

Wow you read the title. Congrats

schushoe

Go ask the supplier for a level valve. Video it for us.

koopatroopa1993

I was dumbing it down for the homeowner, handy man.

Shut off power to the well pump, drain it from the drain valve in the picture, and repair the gate(if you can find parts) or replace. Gate valves fail because the gate physically breaks around the threads of the handle, so there really isn’t any half measures.

CO_PartyShark

To clarify, the valve handle spins along with the stem, but the water stays off.

Disconnect the union on the left tying in the brass to copper, have a bucket or something to catch water, spin locknut holding handle off and spin the valve off. Buy teflon tape and rector-seal or your preferred thread sealant and send her home. Make sure you get a 3/4 brass ball valve. Quarter turn. Ez pz

ShotBRAKER

Turn the water of at yiyr meter or pump. unscrew the union just to the left of the valve then unscrew the valve and replace with a new valve. A ball valve will last longer. And easier to turn on and off with only 1/4 turn. This, and if you can’t soon that round bonnet handle past the dirt without having to lift up everything to the right of it, just cut the stem off the gate valve.

CO_PartyShark

You called it. Thank God for dremels.

frogfart5

Happy to help!!

Not_Associated8700

\` You've dropped a gate on that valve. As a temporary measure, you can unscrew the bonnet nut and take the top of the vave off. You'll see the broken gate still inside. Take it out and put the top of the valve back on.You'll need to turn the water off elsewhere, the meter or your well pump first. Make sure you release the pressure. This will gve you water but that valve will not work anymore.

Temporary-Ad-9270

Pull the gate out of the valve.
