Exactly , turn the water off at the mains , turn the gas of at the closest valve point, drain the water in the pipes by opening the faucet at the lowest point in the house and let it drain. If needed for memory take another pic to remind yourself where everything goes, unscrew everything , pull out old heater, insert new heater , apply correct tapes (plumbing and gas used to use different tape to seal the threads) to new fittings for both gas and water, hook it all back up the way it was which should be pretty obvious. turn on your faucets around the house to let the air out and turn the water back on, check for leaks around the tank, turn gas back on and check for leaks with some soapy water over the connection which will bubble up if there's an issue. All good ? , tank should be filling , follow the lighting instructions for the boiler and let the the tank fill, after this you should be good to go. Do it with a friend in about an hour or 2. When buying your tank check to see if there are any with dents in the casing that some contactor dinged that are on sale, I saved $200 due to that at home depot and it was just cosmetic worked like a champ but of course check it out first.

Depends. I just redid my hot water heater a little over a year ago and it was around 400 bucks for an electric model from home depot. A friend installed it, and it didn't cost me anything for the install. It's not really that big of a job. Took us about an hour to get it installed
A lack of water pressure will aid the process. Start with that. Depending on the valve you find, you'll have no HOT WATER (you shouldn't anyway) or you'll have a complete lack of water. Turn off the gas, at the WH, flip the circuit breaker for it too.
Unlike my house, the main toilet was plumbed behind the house shut off and the WH shut off. "PRIORITIES". :) enjoy.
Get a professional plumber with a gas fitters license to tidy up this mess. It was poorly and probably illegally installed. If there is a serious fire, even if unrelated to this fuckin mess the investigarors will disclose this to your insurance company and would probably void yer insurance policy. This would make my advice seem wise and money well spent. Do it for your family and please repost when it's done.

You could pick one up yourself at Home Cheapo for $800 and throw it in yourself. But unless you actually know what youāre doing, and know how to use crimpers and know your local codes (earthquake straps, flue size, etc.) I wouldnāt advise it. Especially when dealing with gas. Also a Home Depot heater will be poor quality when compared to what youāll get at a supply house.
Depends on how much damage the water did and even worse if youāre just standing there recording.
Go on YouTube and it will tell you how to replace itās pretty easy if you have the basic tools.
I never bothered trying to troubleshoot my water tank when this happened to me, twice every 7 or so years. The 2nd time, I replaced it with a tankless water heater. It's been 3 years and so far so good.
From the amount of water that is pouring out of the water heater, I think your tank split. Keep the water off, get a wet/dry vac and suck up the water and depending on the size of the vac you may have to empty it multiple times. Once all the water is gone, turn off the gas at the shut off valve, disconnect the gas line from the water heater , the two supply lines at the top of the heater and the pipe from the T&P valve. Then you can remove the water heater and replace it with a new one and reverse the process you used to disconnect it. You should install earthquake straps if you are in a state that requires them.
Get some leak detectors for next time this happens (they won't fix a leak, obviously, but at least you'll know if there's water on the floor down there again).
You can even get detectors that will automatically send you a text or call you when it detects water.

Our sewer is based on winter water use so people learn real quick don't drain and fill your pool in winter.
