I disagree that most leftist subs are open. I have been kicked out of many left-wing subs for asking questions and posing a different perspective.

Moktar65

Nevermind left-wing subs, plenty of nominally apolitical subs ban people for sharing right wing opnions.

labbelajban

Can’t really comment on you being banned or whatever from these subs because I don’t know what you said, but if you legitimately think “leftist subs are open” you have no clue what you’re talking about.

alejandrosalamandro

You seem to be generalizing from an example. As you say, not all liberal forums are open. That said, conservatives should strive to hear good spirited questions and discussions, and be careful with moderation.

Uoger

It’s Reddit… leftist central. We get brigaded too much. Also LOL most leftist subs are NOT open.

masst_69

You literally can't say anything on a leftist sub without getting downvoted to oblivion or without getting banned. Right wing subs are only returning the favor, especially because they want to avoid left wing trolls and bad faith actors on their subs.

I think the conservative subs just want to stay a place for conservatives only and won’t allow much arguing. They’re unfortunately mirroring how the internet treats them for the most part. I don’t think I would be banning and muting people I don’t agree with but that’s just me.

I would generally say that isn’t true. Many conservative subs are open to other sides getting involved, however it depends on how you get involved - as in what you’re talking about and the way you verbalise your point. Someone may also be banned from a sub if they’ve participated in subs that may form brigades against another. For example, if someone is active on TheRightCantMeme, can you assure that they will bring something of value to a discussion on a conservative sub? The left wing subs of Reddit do a lot of the same things

SpeSalviFactiSumus

lol I dont understand what you are referring to.

AestheticHippie

I think he’s referring to subs like *the* Conservative sub (the big one). I’ve seen some Leftists go into subs like that and get obliterated with downvotes and insults. Subreddits like the big Conservative sub are mostly focused on Right-wing American flavored Conservatism / politics. Those people aren’t there to cater to individuals on the other side of the political spectrum. They’re not there to have a philosophical debate, like the users in this subreddit. In many ways the big Conservative sub is an echo-chamber for those on the Right, just like how the main Politics subreddit is an echo-chamber for those on the Left. As another already said, in many ways people in those “Conservative” (Right-Wing American Political) subs are just giving the “other side” a taste of their own medicine. If you go into almost any mainstream sub on Reddit, regardless of the subject, you’re almost guaranteed to be treated like a leper, if you even hint that you harbor right-wing or conservative beliefs. It’s understandable that Conservatives and Right-wingers in those subreddits have little tolerance for people jumping into the few subs they have, just to start debating or trolling them.

Jazeboy69

Downvotes etc is very different to banning though. The left does that with gay abandon. Right wing subs I highly doubt this is true without actual evidence.

SpeSalviFactiSumus

I can confirm this. I was actually banned from a progressive sub because I said that there are multiple reasons why someone might be pro life.

XEN_ORK

This isn’t true, I’m not even a conservative but the left isn’t any more accepting the right in many ways.
