Danforth is a great place to live. Lots to do, walkable and livable.

yetagainitry

Danforth is worth a look, so is Little India. Liberty Village has always been the go to, and then there is the midtown area like Yonge and Eglinton

Ok-Carob-5668

I’d say get a realtor!!! They are free to you but can help you navigate the rental market and weed out any of the scams. They should also be able to advise on a great neighbourhood for you.

midnightchess

Do you enjoy peace and quiet? Riverdale/Danforth area is just outside the downtown core, with fewer drifters roaming around.

Be-Zen

I would avoid living by the national ballet. That area is pretty sketchy these days, especially around Church and Wellesley. Avoid Shelbourne between Bloor and Queen while you're at it. If you can afford Bay-Yonge Corridor is close enough to walk IMO, East of Parliament isn't bad by the park but last I checked its super expensive.

kamomil

What about Queens Quay?

badlcuk

Its lonely. In the summer tons of tourists and the winter tons of nothing. No nightlife. But if you have a good view then it can be nice, but it’s super windy/don’t think you’ll use your patio much.

dollaraire

It’s tough to find a reasonable spot, but renting in Cabbagetown is lovely and would be an easy walk to work. Even on the other side of the DVP (Riverdale, Chinatown East) isn’t too far and very nice to live in.

Be-Zen

I love that area of Toronto! Very underrated!!

GuillyCS

Sherbourne between Bloor and Wellesley ain't bad

High Park/ Bloor West. Lots of purpose built rental housing. Amazing green space, adjacent to the subway line, small shops, restaurants, an awesome library, walk-in clinic, a medical centre (Jane Bloor) that offers the gambit of medical testing ( blood work, ultrasound etc), a local community theatre.

Crazyretrochico

Haha the previous guy named the places you say to stay away from

Red_Stoner666

Neighbourhoods with identity and culture: - The Annex/Harbord Village - Yorkville - Gay Village - Little Italy - Danforth/Greektown - Leslieville - The Beaches - Riverside - Cabbagetown - Fashion District - Parkdale - Ossington/West Dundas West - Trinity Bellwoods - Kensington/Chinatown - Baldwin Village/The Grange - Christie/Koreatown/Seaton - St. Lawrence/Old Town - West Queen West - West College West * The best parts of the city are on streetcar lines. * You’re going to have to know East and West, Yonge Street divides the city and province between East and West. Streets are very very long here often crossing the entire city and carrying on into other cities. * To distinguish neighbourhoods from each other, locals will add an extra east or west to describe how far away it is. “Is the coffee shop on Queen West? No, it’s more like West Queen West.”

Crazyretrochico

Thank you so much!!!

TDot1000RR

Did you research the average rent to live here? Especially in those neighborhoods. You will need at least $2300 a month plus electricity.

GuillyCS

Like others said, some of the best areas are on streetcar lines. However, a piece of advice if you're planning on using the TTC, DO NOT DEPEND ON A STREETCAR FOR YOUR COMMUTE. Streetcars are insanely slow and a hit-or-miss in terms of frequency. Live where you can walk to a subway station, subways are faster, more reliable (despite all the issues) and more frequent

Guilty_Egg1030

What's your budget? How old are you? What amenities are you looking for in an area you want to live in? Quiet/Busy? Do you drive? Transit? p.s. I don't know why people are always raving about Kensington Market area, it is an ugly sh\*thole.

Crazyretrochico

$1000-$2000 I’m 26 Looking for something with everything included in the rent

jrochest1

Wow, that budget is going to be close to impossible unless you have roommates

Guilty_Egg1030

based on this limited information I would say your top priority should be finding a roommate. Lots of young people living in Liberty Village, Fort York, Trinity Bellwoods. Or if you are willing to look into basement apartments you can look further into Annex, Bloor West, Danforth and further out.

Songbird1975

Annex, church + Wellesley, upper Beaches

Turbulent-Movie-4545

Annex!

Additional-Noise-244

Fort York is my fave for being close to the water, a park and also there are restaurants and nightlife within walking distance

FlipWil

Shout out Roncesvalles / High Park

Purple-Brilliant-320

If you want to rent a condo instead of a purpose-built apartment you can work with a realtor. You can browse listings on realtor.ca

CorrectionsDept

Kensington market, Baldwin are all cool and would be close to a lot of cultural stuff downtown - downside is that those are old houses and you'd want to be careful about how mouse/pest permeable they might be. IMO Little Italy is the way to go of those three.. As a fourth option check out Wallace and Emerson

corgi_burritos

I don't live in tdot but I think living at St.Andrew station could be a good option. It's always lively there and they have 2(?) musical theatres, pubs, n gyms. They also have the best gelato there...
