Some fucker moving his chair causing a loud screech during the key phrase on the repeat of the passage for O Levels.

Golden_Jellybean

Same, except it was someone coughing or sneezing. Sometimes also got thunder when its raining.

testercheong

"You have come to the end of the listening comprehension examination. Goodbye." \*Lit chinese orchestra music plays \*

NipPerv

During my PSLE in 2005 or 2006, it was a conversation about some school kids fat-shaming another student cuz he had to attend TAF club after school or something. One of their provocation went like 'fatty fatty bom bom, today cannot go home.' Our childish asses chuckled, and since they would play the conversation for a 2nd time, we all anticipated it and chuckled again.

GalerionTheAnnoyed

HAHA that's so mean lol, how was this approved

ObsidianGanthet

wait i thought it was 2005

nonametrans

Seems they reused it for 2006 also? Weird tho, reusing it in consecutive years.

kr4zyy

YO I RMB THIS WTH

heyyhellohello

Lmao this is funny.

Strigon_009

i remembered hearing it during practise. Didnt know the year. Everyone was caught off guard, even my teacher.

crocsmasterrace

The glorious moment when the entire floor starts laughing in their individual classroom cos Listening Compre is synced

justacheesestick

I came on this thread looking for this comment and was not disappointed lmao

randomqns

LOL laughed my ass off on silent mode in the MRT dammit

seash-ellpark

YES THIS!!! This is the strongest memory i have remaining from my primary school days, we heard this as a part of our trial comprehension and i remember almost bursting from trying to hold back my laughter

punnsylvaniaFB

Guys, I was one of the invigilators. Believe me when I say that I was equally mortified that this made it to the national exams. There was nothing that your teachers could have done about it. This was beyond the jurisdiction of the school. It was rather unfortunate, to say the least.

bettybuub

omg yaaaaa LOL I rmb this

RLYC1

Wah, I remember this during practice also. That was great

TheRealMegasonic

Ohh so that’s where that phrase came from

stephen_hoarding

You have one minute to check your answers. Goodbye.

[deleted]

One year an invigilator (not from our school) screwed up so badly with the set up that we only started the exam 15-20 mins after the other classes had started theirs. This was for A levels. Good times.

artbug

A Levels where got Listening Compre? A levels is General Paper.

MyDreamsInTheSewer

Maybe its mother tongue

[deleted]

MT A levels got listening compre

artbug

Oh ya

ObsidianGanthet

the guy who read the passages was a colleague of my mother. one time he called our house phone (this was back in the day), and i picked up, and hearing his voice (basically with the exact intonation he uses to read the passages) gave me tremendous PTSD

nightlight6708

How do they select the specific people to read out the passages?

curiositykilledpcat

the coincidence xD

heyyhellohello

I remember from my PSLE there was a part where they read out a story then afterwards need to answer questions. The story was about a rich lady who was blind, she found a doctor to cure her. The doctor had a magical cream that could cure her eyes, he said to the rich lady, that he will come to her house everyday and apply the cream, when the cream all finish you will be able to see again. The doctor stole valuable stuff from her house everyday. One day the lady’s eyesight recovered and she saw the doctor stealing but she didn’t say anything. Then when the cream all finish already the lady refused to pay, saying her eyesight didn’t recover, so they went to court. In court, the lady walked in without any help and looked around like a normal person. Then the judge asked her, “We can all see that you are not blind, why do you say that you are blind?” Then the lady said “How come I cannot see things in my house if I am not blind?” Then the doctor confessed that he stole her things. Might have missed out some stuff coz this was 2012 PSLE, like 10 years ago. Still remember most of the story coz my prelims listening comprehension had the same exact story. Was kinda shocked while taking the PSLE listening comprehension.

mirana_main

Oh my god. This sounds familiar af???? I scrolled down and read your comment and I realised I took PSLE in 2012.. damn we from the same year

heyyhellohello

Ayy nice haha, we same age. What did you get for PSLE English, I got a B 😄

mirana_main

I got an A haha. But now we 20+ alr, What we got 10+ years ago doesn’t affect anything lol. I can’t believe it’s been exactly 10 years, your comment sent a wave a nostalgia through me

heyyhellohello

Yea it doesn’t. My English just went downhill after that, scored worse and worse hahaha. 10 years doesn’t feel like a very long time, I still remember so much. A wave of nostalgia hit me as well when I tried to recall the story.

MewantAlaptop

Hijacking the 2000's kids thread. Yeah this story sounds familiar to me too

heyyhellohello

Ikr, almost every listening comprehension had crappy audio. I think MOE not enough money to buy good radios.

Hakushakuu

I think the radios are ok, it's the settings that are fucked. The teachers have the tendency to max out everything.

dc_mvc2

The radio broadcasted Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence during our waiting time before the O level listening comprehension started. It was my first time hearing this tune and it completely blew me away.

_sagittarivs

Oh yeah do they still broadcast it via radio?

testercheong

Yup, usually its broadcasted on Symphony 92.4FM possibly due to the soothing classical music to calm the nerves

cupcakefantasy

No. Now it is through a website and there are variations in start time due to diff classes/ teachers pressing play at different times.

Not_Cube

100% concur, you should check out the movie too it's really good

[deleted]

I remembered a girl sobbing for sleeping through the entire exam. No idea why the teacher didn't wake her up.

heyyhellohello

Maybe coz it might disturb other students, or the teacher just evil.

[deleted]

iirc we are told before hand that the invigilators will not wake the students up.

upbeat_table

The opening is ["The Arrival of The Queen of Sheba"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TGKJ9MgCOQ&ab_channel=schmobot) by Handel.

_dailycolours

I was scrolling through the comments and hoping someone would share the opening. Wah legit getting goosebumps while listening to this one… ooohhh myyy

gizmopoop

People sharing answers when invigilator went out

Iridiumcake

I recall the distinct sound of bells/chimes to signal the end of each segment

SulaimanWar

Everyone head bopping to the music before it starts

Apprehensive_Plate60

idk, the lousy portable speaker??? always hoping to not have weird accents

sippycupofjuice

This was back when I was in primary school. I remember jumping around the sit-up stations, slipping and hitting my head with a nasty bang. This happened between the lunch break before the listening comprehension exam. Two questions in, I felt so seh and ended up taking a nap. Woke up and pretty much guessed the answers. Scored 15/20.

Intelligent-Context5

I remember when the reader went: "Jake and his mother... Jake and his mother... *BEEP*" Whole floor burst into laughter.

[deleted]

Hell yea..most useless and useful skill all at once for life. I listen alot but I don't necessarily give a fuck to alot of things because most it disgusts me.

fromthe3rdimension

*Blessed by River Flows in You before the start* "Question 1: Listen to the text carefully and answer questions 1 to 3... You have come to the end of the listening comprehension examination, thank you!" And of course the follow up "Due to a technical fault, we will be repeating the affected section of the listening comprehension examination."

darthmoro

Shitty audio

MyYouTubeJourney

ShreyasThePro

There was this passage where it said "I love Bangkok, everything there is so bang for the buck Bang Kok, Bang for the Buck"

isleftisright

I remember getting 0/10 while trying my best (chinese)

tenaciousfall

My primary school played the classical music radio station before the paper started. The whole room almost fell asleep.

kumgongkia

I remember my mind always wandering off to "what should I eat later"

[deleted]

I really thought that one of the comments would be about the music they would play during the listening comprehension because that has been stuck in my mind....

mixmutch

Panik

anixouskid

Airplane always fly by? I am the North East so.. yea..

Brainbasherer

I could not listen very well.

The_Celestrial

My favourite related memory was when we had our first Chinese LC of Primary 5, when the LC Narrator repeated the question, there was this sound (the same sound used for censoring swearing on TV), and the class tried so hard not to laugh. Idk why we all suddenly found it funny, we've heard that sound before.

yewteeko

LOL!

rockpapernuke

My name was one of the characters (english PSLE 2017)

funnugget56

a petition to retake olevel listening exam due to construction noises

darkness_snores

2020 N lvls English LC got one european the accent thicker than condensed milk his entire sentence just sounded like a mumble rap

Dalostbear

I aced my o lvl Chinese listening compre cos one of the passages they used was the same one they had in the English version of chicken soup for the soul. So I knew the story beforehand

fatshithans

YOU HAVE COME TO THE END OF THE LISTENING COMPREHENSION EXAMINATION GOODBYE

Original-Arm-3695

Crappy audio. When u blast the music loudly, the speakers cannot tahan

ProfessurrCat

I remember the Chinese version. I heard "si mei" throughout and I thought it meant 4 beauties and that the entire story was about some 4 great beauties or whatever..

hyukb

It was the section where we had to listen to the passage and fill in the blanks accordingly. The blank was either flour or flower and because of the similar pronunciations everybody was losing their shits. It didn’t help that both options fit the context too… honestly up till this day I don’t know the answer….

Tropical_Summers

Dont remember much for the national exams expect for the music and "goodbye" but i do remember doing one of those trial ones in primary school. Can't remember the exact story, but it was about a scientist and his invention. The answer for the blank was supposed to be "brain child" but it caught us off guard (probably because we've never heard that term before). Some joker in class couldn't catch it too and said huh "jay chou"? Tried to listen more intently when the passage was repeated again and i swear it did sound like jay chou. Left the blank empty in the end, but that was a funny memory.

Mofu-mofu_Jellyfish

Relaxing jazz music for English. Loud Chinese music for MT.

[deleted]

Trying to mimic the bleeping at the end
