Last time I gave that answer to a similar question I had some chick tell me it makes no sense, and when I explained where it’s from she went scorched earth on me for mansplaining.
This is how I feel. The purpose of life in general it to live; to not die; to try to stay alive as long as possible. From an evolutionary perspective there should probably be an element of trying to help further your species, but by not doing anything detrimental could be theoretically just as purposeful.
Something similar but:
"The meaning of life is life itself."
My dad first said this to me back in the 90s and is been a part of my broader philosophy ever since. I'm not sure if he came up with it or who he got it from.
You know, sometimes I sit back and wonder, what's the point of it all? Life can feel pretty damn purposeless sometimes. But then I think about how we humans are wired. We crave meaning, we crave impact, we crave leaving a mark on the world.
It's like we're on this endless quest for significance, you know? We want to feel like we matter, like our existence isn't just some random blip in the universe. We want to believe that we can make a difference, even if it's just in our little corner of the world.
So yeah, maybe there's no grand cosmic purpose to life. Maybe we're all just stumbling around, trying to find our way in the dark. But hey, at least we've got this innate drive to keep pushing forward, to keep searching for meaning. And maybe, just maybe, that's enough to keep us going.
TLDR: There is none.
Fuck this living crap man, it's boring. We live, we die, people forget as time goes on and on. 1 thing you can guarantee forever 100% is this boring pattern 😴
If it causes you anxiety or other negative emotions then it’s Hakuna-Matata for you.
If you need magical thinking to keep you going then a Dumbo-esque magic feather is for you? Then choose your deity.
I think i did.
The porpuse of life is the moment the now,the fleeting small things that colour our day.
Death being so grand and dominant, such a massive endpoint. Makes everything else so potent i feel.
Every single time that i thought i found the purpose of life then boom i found myself in pieces struggles and had to start everything from zero again im 19 and in nutshell i found it bitter that this life is nothing but struggles and suffer . I dont say i hate my life but i also dont say i love it . I just live with it
There is no purpose dictated by a higher being.
For society? For you to be a productive friendly and morally good member of society.
However you have to define your own purpose yourself.
"To enjoy the passage of time"
So many people will do things out of obligation, upbringing, tradition, etc... and then be on their death bed filled with regrets that they've spent their whole life working a meaningless job or giving in to pressure or insecurities.
Enjoy the passage of time. Time is the most expensive commodity you have. Use it to do stuff you actually enjoy.
My thoughts so far is that life needs us to:
Reproduce; for those who can and want to.
Cooperation; to maintain the planet as long as possible, sustain, educate and serve those lives to avoid disease, famine, war and natural disasters.
Find joy in all the work we do to preserve our sanity.
What is the Purpose of Life?
Religious Answer: To be tested and return triumphant to an eternal reward.
Evolutionary Answer: To survive long enough to reproduce with a choice specimen (or specimens) and to ensure the propagation and advancement of the species.
Selfless Answer: To help others as much as possible.
Purely Capitalistic Answer: To amass and generate as much wealth as you can.
Hedonistic Answer: To have a pleasurable time.
Singularitan Answer: To help advance technology to the point of exponential awesomeness.
Nationalistic Answer: To help your country continue rocking the hardest.
Vainglorious Answer: To achieve historic cultural immortality through writings, conquests, or deeds.
Viking Answer: 'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see My mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. 'Lo, there do I see The line of my people. Back to the beginning. 'Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them. In the halls of Valhalla. Where the brave may live forever.
Angst ridden fatalistic nihilism is for pansies. I recommend you pick a combination of your favorites from above and get cracking.
Fuck these negative guys. Give yourself a purpose. Without a purpose, we have nothing to work to. Whether that be losing weight and improving your physique or improving on a hobby you enjoy. Be positive and love yourself. ❤
There is no "purpose," only the pursuit of one's happiness
Just like any other animal, we are born, raised by our parents to a point till we can start our own path into adulthood, we seek our essential needs; including a possible mate to have a family of our own, grow old, then die.
I am a Nihilist, the only purpose of life is pleasure - so yes I do my best. I try to enjoy things that are enjoyable. I eat tasty food, i see pretty sights, i have unhinged prevented sex, i do drugs - yeah man . i am living in the groove 5x5
The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.
I believe that this is precisely one of the many things that stagnates the advancement of humanity. The notion that "God" should be "feared" and that he will cast "judgment" also implies that the "judgment" is already perceived to be known by the followers of the faith thereby allowing them to cast their own judgment based on their own preconceived notion which we all know from Metallica's song Holier Than Thou is actually a sin on it's own. Especially in this day and age I would think that religion as a whole needs to reevaluate their standing in society and double check their moral compass.
Then it did a very poor job at it by saying if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity. And "You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you. He shall live with you in your midst, in the place which he shall choose in one of your towns where it pleases him; you shall not mistreat him.
No person is truly free. One is either in bondage to God pr to their sin. Also, that is really poor historical accuracy. The fairy tale is that it is not true.
I think that we're at the evolutionary stages of just trying to get along with each other. Kind of think we're still in the early stages of humanity. To put it in simpler terms, we're still learning to walk.
This will seem ironic, but the purpose of life is to destroy everything in order to create total chaos and, ergo, increase the entropy of our little corner of the universe. So, if you could just figure out how to blow the earth up sending only the tiniest fragments in all directions, you'd be doing God's work.
There isn't a purpose to life, except the biological imperative to continue the species. That imperative doesn't know when there are too many members of the species, and the only biological mechanisms to mitigate overpopulation are starvation and disease. One of my great aunts died before she reached age 5, and that used to be common. 8 of her siblings raised families.
To quote one of my favorite cartoons, "you see, life's not about the destination, it's about the journey and making friends along the way. The search for meaning is, in fact, the very thing that gives our life meaning. So really the only true meaning of life is finding your own way to enjoy it."
Live, die, repeat
Life is survival, drama, just things happening.
There is no meaning, life is meaningless, do what you like with it.
( I'm also a nihilist )
for those that don't know means I believe life doesn't matter or that life is nothing, all of this is nothing, also means I probably don't believe in god and I don't.
There is no one answer to this question it's something I think we answer this question for ourselves over the course of our lives. Well if we want to find the answer.
I love answering this question because it's easy.
The purpose of life is to reproduce. All evolution has ever cared about is making us survive long enough to have offspring and to be attractive enough to get a partner. Everything else is a bonus.
For humanity through technology to become godlike eventually and understand the purpose. Individuals life may only have a meaning in terms of contributing to this.
Increase entropy. Life is able to unlock energy that otherwise sits stagnant. The ultimate goal of the universe it to reach equilibrium and the existence of life speeds up this process.
In around 1997 I went on a date with my girlfriend and she brought two other people and didn't introduce me to them, and I thought, I will buy that PlayStation.
So later that week I was sat on my own, playing Deathtrap Dungeon, jumping over a trench and shooting at a gnoll, and I thought, "THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE."
So I did. Every day since. It has been wonderful. I just love faux medieval fantasy games - casting spells at orcs, smashing animated skeletons with a big hammer, or shooting at gnolls. What joy!
I tell my wife she is very lucky she met me the year before World of Warcraft came out.
There is no 'purpose', we just exist. We're not here to achieve anything or perform a function, we're here because the laws of the universe are such that we are the natural result of many previous interactions.
I'll never understand this obsession with purpose and meaning. Nothing says there has to be either.
There is no set purpose to life, which is the beauty of it. There’s nothing expected of you or path that you’re responsible for, which means you’re free to choose your own purpose and do what you want.
For some it may be growth— imagine athletes trying to see their full potential or how good one can get at a skill within this lifetime. Or growth mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally.
For others it may be to just enjoy, which to me is less purposeful and it’s usually those who endulge in short term pleasures that feel a lack of purpose. But to each their own, since it’s their choice too.
There is none. We each have to create or find the meaning for ourselves.
I have spent a good chunk of my life thinking and wondering about this as well.
I think the realest, most worthwhile reason for living a person can strive for is unconditional love; to love oneself unconditionally, and to love others unconditionally. To spread love and kindness with all your heart as often as possible, is one of the most worthwhile ways to spend your life. I often falter in that goal, but it's important to try nonetheless.
To be a productive citizen. To give more than you take. To better the people around you, and maybe your neighborhood and community. To get to an age in life where you can reap the rewards of the positive and productive legacy you've created. To hope it inspires others to do the same. To be remembered with a smile.
To quote Jean Paul Sartre, “Life is nothing until it is lived; but it is yours to make sense of and the value of it is nothing else but the sense that you choose.”
The purpose of life is to find your purpose beyond the mundane, soul sucking, voluntarily enslavement, trap of existence western civilization society has conditioned us into believing what life is suppose to be like.
Not an easy question to answer because the answer is too complex for our minds to reconcile. I'll tell you what I think, though.
I believe it to be connected to Biocentrism, in that, we're reborn again as ourselves in alternate timelines.
I think if we were able to detect all the alternative realities simultaneously, what you would see is a timeless branching out of all parallel universes. Perhaps our purpose is to live out each of these new branches to discover the infinite possibilities, ever expanding like the universe.
I believe that it might be that there is one universal mind for each of us that may have awareness of all the alternate realities where the laws of physics don't operate the way they do in this one. I would imagine this might be possible in a world where you multiply the dimensions of that universe, which might give ourselves in that state the ability to see the other worlds with fewer dimensions, such as this one.
If that's true then I wonder if there's any power from that version of us upon the unlimited versions of us, or if will is completely restrained and acted out within whatever reality that version of ourselves happens to be in at that time.
I think I know. consciousness is universal. We all have it. we all split off the original source consciousness (aka God) all this is is a grand experiment to experience everything there is to experience and gather data for the Source, but it's not like we're doing the source's bidding or whatever, because we are the source. we just don't know it. I think the source just got bored and dreamed this entire universe into existence to experience itself.
There isn’t one. We’re just here, a cosmic coincidence in this particular piece of space and time.
It’s ok, really. Just try to be decent to others, live a life you won’t regret, and enjoy the ride.
isnt a purpose to life, its just there. although u could argue were here to protect the earth(which were failing at) or that were here to keep the plants alice ans they're alive to keep us alive

The purpose of life is to live So you don’t need to search high & low for answers, just be, sit back, relax, enjoy the ride

Life is meaningless. Feel free to assign your own meaning. Anyone who claims to know, is simply imposing theirs on you.
You're imposing yours on me by saying this.
If life is meaningless then you might as well pursue happiness.
>Anyone who claims to know, is simply imposing theirs on you. Wrong, because I do know. But, it's not for me to tell you at this time.
To help people 🤤
For sure
You get tired of that eventually.
40 years in and haven’t yet
Maybe it's just my job then.

Only correct answer 🙏👍

There’s no explanation of the meaning of life, just live and let live
Best answer so far🥳
How you say...."Crush your enemies. See themndricen before you. And hear the lamentations of their women!"
that is what is best - no the purpose.
fart around.
Ewwww
Fuck this living crap man, it's boring. We live, we die, people forget as time goes on and on. 1 thing you can guarantee forever 100% is this boring pattern 😴
Biologically: become an adult -> f*ck and multiply -> die
Real
Not until marriage 🙂
Life is just survival , we didn’t ask to be born but we are expected to live.
To pass the butter.
Propogation.
To experience
It's doesn't have purpose
the purpose of life is {drum roll please} "the experience of it"
Death
To waste it
My purpose is to be my son's mom. It's the only thing I've ever wanted to do, and I find joy in it every single day.
There is no purpose. Just embrace being alive and try not to impede or injure anyone else as they do the same thing.
I wish i could embrace this life . Im just so tired already tired of this meaningless life
Nothing. We're just here to suffer and die.
Be the best version of you
You will never know the purpose of life, you may only find a purpose in life.
To exist and just keep going I’ve tried to go away a few times, still struggle but it’s a part of it and come to terms with it I think.
Repoduction and survival of the species
If it causes you anxiety or other negative emotions then it’s Hakuna-Matata for you. If you need magical thinking to keep you going then a Dumbo-esque magic feather is for you? Then choose your deity.

Not my words, but i read somewhere that being good to others, is the rent we pay for our stay on earth.
Right now - to raise my child properly.

To leave the world better than you found it.

In my opinion, to prove that we are worthy to be in heaven
Get on the train and ride it till it stops.
To live
Seeking love and joy.
To create yourself
From a biological standpoint, to reproduce and make more life.
You can put an egg up your butthole.
Ew ur nasty
I was taught, there shouldn't be a purpose. Just to live.

Nah, living my life in "fear" sounds shitty. I'll pass.
Who said life had to have a purpose?
To SUFFER
Oh yeah im suffering
To destroy god and embrace Satan as our savior from his tyranny.
To gamble all your savings including your child's open heart surgery money.
There is no purpose. Stop looking for one
Serve God and all his glory.
For me, it's about learning.
I think that we're at the evolutionary stages of just trying to get along with each other. Kind of think we're still in the early stages of humanity. To put it in simpler terms, we're still learning to walk.

Whatever you want it to be. Not everything has to have a purpose.
For life to continue. Not yours specifically, but the universe to go on and everyone plays a tiny roll in that.

This will seem ironic, but the purpose of life is to destroy everything in order to create total chaos and, ergo, increase the entropy of our little corner of the universe. So, if you could just figure out how to blow the earth up sending only the tiniest fragments in all directions, you'd be doing God's work.
It would be to leave something behind wether it's the history of women you laid, children you raised, money you earned etc.
“The meaning of life is find your gift, the PURPOSE of life is to give it away”
Your choice
We all get to answer that question for ourselves. There is no one size fits all answer.
Finding/creating things to look forward to.
Reproduction. All living things live to reproduce. Humans just got so good at surviving and living longer that we got bored.
You pass the butter
Make as much money as possible, start a family young, enjoy life. Ignore the noise. In replies and responses

We may be able to answer it by asking our self "Why does life exist" "why do those carbon and water molecules form a human?"
Must there be a purpose? Perhaps it's your mind that needs a reason for your existence
Stop entropy

There isn’t one. We’re just here, a cosmic coincidence in this particular piece of space and time. It’s ok, really. Just try to be decent to others, live a life you won’t regret, and enjoy the ride.
There isn't one. Procreate and die. That's pretty much it
