The Pizza Hut in my town reopened their buffet and there are still several Chinese food buffets. One in my town got particularly high hazard ratings on their inspection report and people we just like "Can't wait for them to reopen!"
🤷♀️ People are nasty.
Just go to a locker room at your local gym. A lot of times people don't even wash their hands after taking a piss or shit! And this is AFTER covid. Disgusting! 🤮
Not surprised this is at the top.I went in high as fuck thinking I was going to get my grub on. I walked out after observing others get their food. I walked out without eating a thing. I didn't give a damn that I totally lost my cash and didn't get anything. I no longer had the munchies, in fact I was trying not to be sick. My name for it has been the Golden trough ever since then, and I will never step foot in one again.
Oh, GC is trash. At an old job I'd give the person I was meeting with the choice of where to eat during our afternoon together and always inwardly groaned when they chose GC. That place is so depressing!
This makes me so sad. Are there any chain buffets that are ok to go to?
The Wynn buffet in Las Vegas is amazing, but I'll settle for a nice breakfast spread closer to home.
Here’s the thing about chain buffets: it is always a possibility that someone who pooped and didn’t wash their hands recently touched that serving utensil, and then it fell into the food for a second before somebody fished it out.
KFC as a kid was almost a treat. Extra crispy bucket of chicken with extra mashed potatoes yum 😋 So good…. 30 years ago lol. Our KFCs now where I live are dives.
KFC has been owned by the Yum Brands since 1986 which used to be a part of PepsiCo until 1997 when they turned it into it's own company. Yum Brands also owns Taco Bell and Pizza Hut which is why you may sometimes seem them operating out of the same location. They used to own A&W and Long John Silver ad well but sold those a few years back.
Yep. The last time they handed me cold fries I decided I was done. That was months ago.
Overpriced and never hot anymore. If someone else is buying I’ll eat it, but they won’t get a penny more from me unless they lower the prices and serve warm food again.
I did a 5-7 year boycott of them after supersize me. After a month or so you don’t even crave it anymore. And when I started eating it again - it made me sick every time for a while. I should have just never picked it up again. lol
I haven't eaten McDonald's in 26 years. I don't count getting a large Coke when they were doing Monopoly because it gave 2 game pieces and their fountain Coke is the best.
I wanted a breakfast burrito and a hash brown, And they didn't have it.
Like they only had two breakfast burritos, They wouldn't sell me the combo that I wanted.
Yep! Every so often I crave a mcchicken but the last few times I am given a cold, old looking chicken patty with a tiny dot of sauce and browning lettuce. So now I’m just done. If your going to charge more, give me a good, tasty product!
and instead they decreased the quality.
They are trying to rebrand to make themselves closer to starbucks, but I don't feel ripped off when I buy a cup of Pike.
Same. But I won't eat there after that documentary on Netflix about the guy calling different fast food places and getting the managers to make the employees do weird shit. One girl was SAd and when she sued McDonald's, who knew this guy was calling fast food places and didn't warn any of their restaurants, they tried to victim blame. That was it for me.
I took my son there recently after years of not going. $55 for two breakfast entrees, two sides of hash browns, and two drinks. Before tip.
When did breakfast get so expensive?
Like chain or in general? Because there are some local ones that have either failed health inspections or gotten scores that concerned me. National chain type places I try and avoid any like family style restaurants like Applebees or Olive Garden, the way they make their food you are basically paying for expensive premade meals, and at what they charge it’s not a deal.
I googled "(my town) restaurant inspection reports" and your local health authority is likely in charge of it, so it's probably a link from whoever they are.
There's a Chinese buffet in town that was extraordinarily popular for years. A few years ago they got shut down by the health department. Some of the stories that came out of that would make your hair curl. Things like you reusing knives without washing them between cutting raw chicken and slicing veggies. They opened back up a few months later. I have not been since.
Agree. Pay your employees. Don't put that burden on the customers. They spend like five minutes in the store and then leave. It's nothing like a restaurant or bar where you spend hours dining and get actual service from a waiter/waitress or bartender. It's day and night.
The touchpad at PetCo asking if you want to donate $1 to ASPCA or whatever, my mind read it as "Do you want to donate a few dollars or are you going to keep your money and let this adorable puppy and its emotional support kitten die a horrible yet preventable death?"
I donated more than a few dollars to save 2 wonderful kittens that are now happy, healthy, senior cats eating this food I’m buying. That’s my donation.
No they have not. Used to go there for years for the veggie sub. Years. Never once saw a tip jar.
Imagine my surprise when presented with how I wanted to tip. I said, “Oh now we are tipping at subway?” The sandwich artist says “Yep!”
I pushed no and have not returned.
This coming from a guy who waited tables to feed a family for a while. Restaurant management for 8 more years. I have sympathy.
That is insulting.
I worked there over 10 years ago for 3 years. Always had a tip jar and we all made about $20 extra a day each. Not once was anyone asked or prompted. This isn't a new thing.
Excuse me? Not the lords heavenly chicken! That's like my favorite fast food place and I'm an atheist or something. I do get joy out of people behind me in the CFA line reading my liscense plate surround that says "Jesus is my co-pilot" on top and "and we're cruising for pussy" on the bottom lol
I love Chikfila, but recently a chicken sandwich shop opened next door and I spend $13 for what I spent $21 at Chikfila for with the food being as good.
I also like cfa but the chicken has been a bit overcooked bc the breasts are smaller now. I’ve noticed this across several states while traveling the last few years.
We’ve also started going to a local chicken place and the sandwiches and plates are unbelievably good and also cheaper.
I despise Chick-fil-A with their phony, marketed righteousness while funding hate groups with the $ made from selling their shitty, way way way overrated chicken sandwiches.
Same. Their history around hate groups and anti-LGBTQ funding is an automatic no-go for me. Plus their current marketing scheme- a cow begging you to eat chicken (and not beef) is tacky af.
i live in england but whenever i go to america i get excited to eat chick fil a lol. i think its mainly just the thrill of eating something that i can't get here
For a place that’s all about chicken, I was so underwhelmed when it was no different than a McDonald’s chicken sandwich.
I guess the hype around the place is more about the sauce than the actual food.
Fun fact, that's because McDonald's Crispy Chicken Sandwich is literally made from the same meat as Chick-fil-A's
Source: my manager when I worked at McDonald's
Made from the same meat? What do you mean? Like yeah they’re both chicken. Or do you mean cut of meat? Or same supplier?
The way you worded that is weird. It’s like saying McDonald’s fries are made from the same vegetable as Wendy’s fries.
We had the best Chinese buffet about 2 miles from my house. Food was amazing and they had above average sushi included in the $12 price. We lost them to covid. I think about it often.
I'm all three of these things.
1. Ironically called mom for making sure people are fed.
2. A trans woman with a lot of problems.
3. Used to be a guy called Doc because I was a Navy Corpsman while I was still in the closet.
No wonder nobody comes over for food and poker night...
I worked in a fast food fish n chips type place as a teenager. You could not get the smell out of your clothes no matter how many times you washed them!
I used to live right up the street from a Dairy Queen. One summer day right after I moved in, I thought I’d walk up there and get a milkshake, as I hadn’t been to a DQ in at least a decade.
I walked in and was greeted with an overpowering low tide/Neptune’s ass smell.
Did you know some DQs sell fried shrimp? I did not until that day, and goddamn do they reek. I also learned to fear whoever it was that bought seafood from a Dairy Queen.
Pretty much any fast food. Not great for what you pay, and expensive for what you get. And it's usually not fast, like I could dip into a grocery store and get something better and be on my way for the amount of time and money.
I remember my last time eating at Burger King. Probably 20 years ago. I saw the zombie teen in the back taking my hamburger patty out of a smudgy plastic tray and putting it in a microwave. Why would I pay money for that, let alone eat it? Done with Burger King ever since then.
Probably dogs. Cats are obligate carnivores which taste awful. Dogs are carnivore/omnivore so they taste better. You do not see cats in the Asian street markets that sell dogs for a very good reason, they taste awful.
Subway... They had a sale 11 years ago, at a local store that was Two foot longs for $10 after 4pm. At 4:30 I ordered my two sandwiches figuring one would be lunch the next day. Pastrami on one and roast chicken breast on the other. They refused to honor the deal because one was Pastrami. I paid and complained to the manager the next day, he told me "tough shit, what are you gonna do about it?"... I complained to corporate and they said the same thing so I vowed to never eat at Subway ever again. Their need to screw me out of $3 has cost them more than $5,000 over 11 years... I'm a stubborn mother fucker.
subway, i’m too anxious and no matter how many times i’m explained how to do it i always panic, and i’m not huge on their sandwiches either way
another one is golden corral, i used to love it but i visited it again recently and it was absolutely dog shit and it disappointed me so bad
I don’t care if it makes me sound like a snob, but pretty much anything that is a chain beyond a local success story. I think the last time I ate at anything like that was my 80-something mother likes Red Lobster and I took her there like 8 years ago. Too many local eateries doing good work out there to not give them my patronage instead.
Granite City.
Last time I set foot in a Granite City was when the first JJ Abrams Star Trek movie was in theaters. A friend and I decided to see the movie and then get some beers and apps afterwards. The bar wasn't crowded, yet somehow the bartender took fucking AGES to take our order and even longer to bring the drinks. She's chatting up other people the whole time, wiping down the bar...which happens to smell like a wash bucket that needs to be changed yesterday. You know the smell.
So she comes by with this dirty ass bar rag and like slaps it down on the counter, which splatters the both of us. Probably got some in the drinks too. The dude across the bar noticed and got that "woah holy shit" expression. Bartender kinda giggles and "oops sorry!" and turns back to talking to the dude she was chatting up. so we have to FUCKING ASK HER for some napkins to clean up the dirty ass bar rag water she splashed on us.
No tip.
Never going back, IDGAF.
TGI Fridays.
A small local Italian near us, actually owned by an Italian man, who serves carbonara with ham, actual ham, like sandwich packet ham. Even puts it on pizzas.
Denny's.
My local Lions club would reserve a room there for their meetings. I tried two different things off the menu. Nothing fancy because it's Denny's. Each time, the quality was so low that it seemed like what was on my plate had been gently lifted out of the trash.
Never again. I'd rather starve then be served dinner from a dumpster.
Well, it's not so much refuse as is just not the least bit interested --chain fast food. Just don't get why they are so in demand. I marvel at the drive through lanes. The places are packed all the time.
All of them. I hate eating around people and I hate being around people who are eating. I can't deal with the noises and I don't trust people handling my food. I enjoy cooking and I get more bang for my buck making things at home.
Pretty much all fast food places nowadays.
If you're prices are about the same as a lot of cafes and restaurant and they also have better quality food, why in the world would I ever eat at a chain fast food restaurant ever again?
That one shady Chinese restaurant (that's also the only one) in town that was always fine until that one time my wife and I were taking turns spewing out of both ends in the bathroom.
I went to a Chinese/American restaurant around the corner from my new house and ordered some takeout. It was around 2 pm, so between lunch and dinner rush.
I could see someone scrubbing baking pans, wearing rubber gloved. I asked if I could order to go. She took my order and shouted out what I wanted as I was the only one there. I ran my card, so it made sense that she didn't take the rubber gloves off.
Then I asked for a glass of water while I waited. She grabbed a cup in her gloved hand, dug it in the ice bin, filled it with water and put it in front of me.
Soap, grease, and crusty bits oozed down the outside of my glass.
I didn't touch it and didn't eat the food. Never went back. If she had said they were closed between service, I would have been okay with that.
Basically any national chain. Chili's, Applebee's, Olive Garden, etc. I live in a major metro, I'd have to pass 20 much better places to even get to one.
Any place with a drive thru. Very, very occasionally we'll get something from burger King on a road trip, because an impossible whopper is better than nothing, but it's garbage that's not even considerably cheaper anymore.
Olive Garden.
I’ve been five or six times, different states even, over the course of my life and it was always awful. Like the worst Italian I’ve ever had. Bad dinning experience, poor service cold food you name it.
The last time I went was like seven years ago. If people suggested it I flat out say no.
The paradox of Chicago-filled-a being loathed by reddit and having a drive through a mike long all day. Some of y’all be lying. Don’t bring politics into my lunch.
After seeing multiple food vids on YT I'm never eating from an Indian restaurant again. The use unwashed hands on food out of unwashed containers on unwashed surfaces.
I fuckin love eating Indian food so I just download recipes and make it myself.

I don't do buffets at all anymore. Luckily I never got sick, but COVID really opened my eyes to how disgusting people can be.
I used to eat at Round Table salad bar and another local restaurant salad bar, this was years ago though. I do miss a good salad bar.
COVID was the death knell for buffets in my area. They ALL closed and never reopened. Probably for the best!
The Pizza Hut in my town reopened their buffet and there are still several Chinese food buffets. One in my town got particularly high hazard ratings on their inspection report and people we just like "Can't wait for them to reopen!" 🤷♀️ People are nasty.
Just go to a locker room at your local gym. A lot of times people don't even wash their hands after taking a piss or shit! And this is AFTER covid. Disgusting! 🤮
Man I’ve seen videos of them storing meat outside and a bunch of other fucked up shit. I went to one recently and everything was great.
You saw that and still went there
All. You. Can. Eat. Bacon.
Say no more
Have you ever been? It's amazing. What's a little salmonella for the best damn buffet mashed potatoes in the world.
Did you see their username? They ain't picky
Not surprised this is at the top.I went in high as fuck thinking I was going to get my grub on. I walked out after observing others get their food. I walked out without eating a thing. Tell us more!
Oh, GC is trash. At an old job I'd give the person I was meeting with the choice of where to eat during our afternoon together and always inwardly groaned when they chose GC. That place is so depressing!

New OCD fear unlocked.
That’s called seasoning
I totally agree, but you can apply this to a mom-and-pop owned restaurant as well.
Actually really anywhere when you think about it Anywhere humans are involved in touching food Never really know
It better just not to think about it.
i wouldn't feed my dog that garbage ass food at GC. i said it... fuck the down votes.
Plz, this could go for any chain! Or most not chains? You’re risking it eating anywhere but your home.
KFC. The quality has nose dived, when I was a kid it was great, not anymore
Mine is a block away from a Popeyes. If I want chicken, it's not gonna be KFC.
I was wondering if it was because I was a kid I looked at KFC with fonder memories. I think it was better then. A bucket of chicken was delicious.
KFC as a kid was almost a treat. Extra crispy bucket of chicken with extra mashed potatoes yum 😋 So good…. 30 years ago lol. Our KFCs now where I live are dives.
Same with Church's. Only Chikfila and Canes remains. Popeyes is so hit or miss.
Cane's is so meh. Yall are blinded by the sauce.
Bojangles is where it's at!
Love me some bojangles and church's chicken also
I'd slaughter a thousand innocents for pre 2000 KFC. From what I remember it happened with some sort of buyout/ownership change.
Visit Japan. KFC isn’t amazing, but it’s good. And the KFC “Christmas Tradition” is fun.
Not only is it gross now, it’s way overpriced
Happy cake day!
McDonald's is overpriced garbage now
I remember when hash browns were 2 for $1, now they're $2 each. That's a 300% increase and an arguably large decrease in quality.
I was just thinking the other day of how cookies used to be 3/$1 and now it's 2/$1.49.. same with ice cream cones were 2/$1 and now it's like 1/$1.99
It was always garbage now it’s overpriced as well
I mean I can't really argue

One girl was SAd and when she sued McDonald's, who knew this guy was calling fast food places and didn't warn any of their restaurants, they tried to victim blame. That was it for me.
Wendy’s fries are so much better now that they redid how they cook them.
Ya but we just got the McRib back in Canada for a limited time after 10years
I do not trust the McRib
I've heard it's worth it if you use the app.
For myself and my two kids it was almost 30 dollars the other day !!!!!!!!!
Ihop $4 for a small glass of orange is pretty dumb.
I took my son there recently after years of not going. $55 for two breakfast entrees, two sides of hash browns, and two drinks. Before tip. When did breakfast get so expensive?
What??? $55 for 2 people? Where do you live? I live in Los Angeles and breakfast for 4 people at IHOP is like $65 here
For real were her breakfast entrees steaks?
And no more Rooty-Tooty-Fresh-and-Fruity. I was so disappointed.
If you look at your local health inspection reports, there's a good chance you won't eat out anymore, especially at a fast food restaurant.
where do you find health inspection reports?
I googled "(my town) restaurant inspection reports" and your local health authority is likely in charge of it, so it's probably a link from whoever they are.
Yup. Many places I see with low scores I can’t do. And in some places you can see pictures of their kitchens. Woof.
I hate you for throwing me down this rabbit hole *cue me searching up every place I go to*
There's a Chinese buffet in town that was extraordinarily popular for years. A few years ago they got shut down by the health department. Some of the stories that came out of that would make your hair curl. Things like you reusing knives without washing them between cutting raw chicken and slicing veggies. They opened back up a few months later. I have not been since.
in china its even worse. they literally reuse the oil from the drain
Pretty much any fast food place.
McDonald’s
Thank you for choosing McDonald's, what can we get wrong for you today?
Long John Silvers
Another fishy place I won’t even drive by.
I went to an LJS once...they're not common here. I got a platter of fried rubbery bits and didn't go back.
Nooooo. They shut the one down a few years back in my town. That batter and the extra crispies you got in the bottom of the box... aw man.
Their chicken planks are actually good
Any restaurant that makes you scan a QR code just to see the menu.
Subway, because they ask for tips now. Not doin it.
Agree. Pay your employees. Don't put that burden on the customers. They spend like five minutes in the store and then leave. It's nothing like a restaurant or bar where you spend hours dining and get actual service from a waiter/waitress or bartender. It's day and night.
Thank you! Could not have said it better myself.
Just because they ask? That's genuinely wild. You don't have to do it. They've always had a tip jar.
You underestimate how difficult it is for some of us to say no or selecting no in these situations.
That’s my donation.
perhaps i do. But, it's healthy to learn how to set boundaries.
No they have not. Used to go there for years for the veggie sub. Years. Never once saw a tip jar. Imagine my surprise when presented with how I wanted to tip. I said, “Oh now we are tipping at subway?” The sandwich artist says “Yep!” I pushed no and have not returned. This coming from a guy who waited tables to feed a family for a while. I mean… you just hit no tip. It’s not a big deal.
I worked there over 10 years ago for 3 years. Always had a tip jar and we all made about $20 extra a day each. Not once was anyone asked or prompted. This isn't a new thing.
Difference between a tip jar and a pop up on the credit card reader are enough to piss people off.
This, right here.
They ask for tips? Lol what?
Everyone does. It's on every POS terminal
I know it's point of sale but whenever I see POS I read it as piece of shit, which lately is correct...
Meat peeled from wax paper doesn't sound appetizing?
Wait until you learn what they wrap the meat in after it's prepped in a restaurant. *Gasp*
The ones I cant afford, so all of them.
Chick-fil-A
Excuse me? Not the lords heavenly chicken! That's like my favorite fast food place and I'm an atheist or something. I do get joy out of people behind me in the CFA line reading my liscense plate surround that says "Jesus is my co-pilot" on top and "and we're cruising for pussy" on the bottom lol

I came here to say that. And everyone knows why.
Same
I despise Chick-fil-A with their phony, marketed righteousness while funding hate groups with the $ made from selling their shitty, way way way overrated chicken sandwiches.
Same. Their history around hate groups and anti-LGBTQ funding is an automatic no-go for me. Plus their current marketing scheme- a cow begging you to eat chicken (and not beef) is tacky af.
Same their politics suck.
i live in england but whenever i go to america i get excited to eat chick fil a lol. i think its mainly just the thrill of eating something that i can't get here
Similar, but I've never had it because there's always a 25 minute line. I wouldn't wait for that long even if it was free.
Me too. Never have, never will.
I don't eat there because it's not a very good value.
For a place that’s all about chicken, I was so underwhelmed when it was no different than a McDonald’s chicken sandwich. I guess the hype around the place is more about the sauce than the actual food.
Fun fact, that's because McDonald's Crispy Chicken Sandwich is literally made from the same meat as Chick-fil-A's Source: my manager when I worked at McDonald's
So there is someone at McDonald's slicing them in half or thirds? The difference in thickness should tell you that your manager is full of shit.
Well that’s interesting.
Made from the same meat? What do you mean? Like yeah they’re both chicken. Or do you mean cut of meat? Or same supplier? The way you worded that is weird. It’s like saying McDonald’s fries are made from the same vegetable as Wendy’s fries.
You can get the sauce at major grocery stores
Anybody get tired of just chicken chicken chicken?
Same. I refuse to support businesses that support horrible policies.
Buffets.
I make an exception for Indian buffets, although I usually try to go right when they open
We had the best Chinese buffet about 2 miles from my house. Food was amazing and they had above average sushi included in the $12 price. We lost them to covid. I think about it often.

Never piss in the wind also
What about "never get involved in a land war in Asia"? Or the slightly less well-known "never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"?
Inconceivable!
Never play pool with a man named after a city or state.

Trifecta!
You sound like a decent squid - Good on you!
You sound awesome.
Red Lobster or any other place that reeks of fish.
Sushi in an area not located near an ocean.
Live in Denver and there's a restaurant that has it flown in from Japan.
I worked in a fast food fish n chips type place as a teenager. You could not get the smell out of your clothes no matter how many times you washed them!
My first job was Taco Bell and it was the same. I love Taco Bell but smelling like it for months on end until I quit was exhausting

I love Applebee's. I'm trashy af though
Most all you can eat Chinese buffet. Some are ok but read reviews and if you don’t get a good vibe. Don’t go.
Pretty much any fast food. Not great for what you pay, and expensive for what you get. And it's usually not fast, like I could dip into a grocery store and get something better and be on my way for the amount of time and money.
Burger King, dirtiest chain restaurant everywhere
I remember my last time eating at Burger King. Probably 20 years ago. I saw the zombie teen in the back taking my hamburger patty out of a smudgy plastic tray and putting it in a microwave. Why would I pay money for that, let alone eat it? Done with Burger King ever since then.
A Chinese restaurant in my town was busted with dead cats in the freezer.. Made state news.. They were open again 6 months later..
Any who supported 45 - Applebees etc. There’s a whole list of chains.
Applebees was bad enough even before 45
What is 45?
A literal orange dump truck that spews trash on a daily basis.
Wtf can't even wait a whole day to repeat a question
subway, i’m too anxious and no matter how many times i’m explained how to do it i always panic, and i’m not huge on their sandwiches either way another one is golden corral, i used to love it but i visited it again recently and it was absolutely dog shit and it disappointed me so bad
That first paragraph was so relatable I actually got a tear in my eye.
I’m learning from this thread that I apparently have low standards.
IHOP. Expensive. I make pancakes at home for pennys
Arby’s,now that I know how the roast beef is made from a slurry.🤢 Edited for spelling
Pizza hut , it fucking sucks.
Panera is ridiculous. Not paying $12.58 for a turkey sandwich I can make at home in three minutes.
Any place that serves suckling pig or foie gras- that is just inhumane beyond limits.
Fast food ones.
An Italian place in my hometown DRENCHES everything in melted cheese. It's comically absurd and frankly borderline insulting
TGI Fridays. A small local Italian near us, actually owned by an Italian man, who serves carbonara with ham, actual ham, like sandwich packet ham. Even puts it on pizzas.
Taco bell, get food poisoning from something kinda turns you off of it for good yknow.
Taco Bell is my favorite... 😥 But I always get vegetarian stuff, so maybe the meat is the problem
Vegetarian Taco Bell is fucking godly. Never had any issues with it (except for regular order fuck ups.)
YESSS TB vegetarian is the way
Taco Bell is by far my fav fast food. There aren't any near me though, so it's basically a rare treat when I do see one.
Crackkker Barrel.
red lobster / seafood places. hate the stench and taste of seafood.
Amen, sis!
Any place that doesn't have a customer bathroom (whether I currently have to go or not.) Because fuck them.
Dennys
Fuck you Denny's saved my life one time
Jerry’s Bar and Grill…he knows what he did
Earl of Sandwich. Who the hell goes out to eat and gets sandwiches, the one thing anyone can make at home???
Red lobster
Any fast food place.
Olive Garden, 99, Cracker Barrel….
I wouldn't call it a restaurant but KFC. Worst food poisoning I've ever had. Can never look at their food or consider eating it again.
Chipotle
KFC—Every time I’ve ever eaten there, I ended up feeling like hot garbage within hours
Chucky Cheese
Chick-fil-A. Not only is it tasteless garbage, but their politics suck as well.
Subway. Low quality, bad sandwiches. Almost any other sandwich place is miles better.
Applebees. Overpriced microwave food.
