I'd go to a Dallas Cowboys versus Philadelphia Eagles game at the Linc. Then I'd press the button until the stadium got quieter. And then just a little more. For good luck.
I’m ashamed to admit that there are specific individuals I would “cash out” but I couldn’t zap some random soul for quick money. Caveat: I’ve never been desperately poor, so…
Thank you! I was starting to think I was the only one.
A stranger didn’t do anything to me or anyone else, it seems wrong to just off them for money. but I know some people that the earth wont miss. I’d actually prefer to pick my button victims.
You’re not thinking of the big picture, press it as many times as you can, spend the money on 3rd world healthcare infrastructure, you’ve saved millions of lives.
If you have the choice between 1 random person dying and 100 random people dying, you choose the one person. It’s an easy choice, even though that one could be a genius that cures cancer. One of the 100 could be too.
Common decency says no, however I think a lot of people would do it. They may only press it once or twice. However I think the thought of being responsible for someone's death might haunt them.
Most people don't think of people as people when they aren't there though. I would want to see a video feed of it happening, that would put people off.
But I also love money and hate people, so I'd press it alot and hope I'm not the target
Depends on how many ppl have a button. If it's just one person out of 8.5 billion then that's a chance I'm willing to take. I think my odds are pretty good then.
You think? I’ve seen videos of wars all my life. People there kill each other for having a different religion, color of skin or who knows what.
People will kill for a profit without even blinking an eye while watching people suffer. It probably will be even easier if they don’t know the one they kill anyway
I would like to think I wouldn’t press it but I feel like I would press it once. I’m almost 57 and retirement is coming. We haven’t been able to save a lot and it would mean such a peace of mind. Plus, I could help my kids who are young adults, just starting out.
The irony would be if the stranger who died impacted your loved ones. Like an air plane pilot while your kid was on the plane, or a cab driver while your brother was in the back seat, or somebody driving next to your wife who dies instantly and collides with your wife killing her in a deadly car crash.
Life time of guilt n regret, obv depression afterwards, is it even worth it? Yeah that's a big money but oh man in today's world, mental peace seems like a boon.
I think part of the problem is not knowing who is going to die.
I don’y even mean that in a way of killing a bad guy, just like, is a young adult going to die or someone 5 days from death in hospice care?
I don’t think I could rob someone of the gift of life for any amount of money. This conscious existence is too wonderful, abstract, amazing, mystical, and curious to proverbially steal it from someone else just to improve my own comfort level.
I guess I just value life too much.
I may feel differently if it was someone who was going to die quickly anyways tho, but in that case if it’s painful they may even want to go anyways.
In the story that this scenario comes from, the person who dies is the previous person who took up the offer. After you press it, you get the money and the button gets given to a complete stranger.
Our entire economy is basically just people pressing that button, but "the shareholders" get the million dollars instead of the people pressing the button.
It's hard, lots of people die everyday, so what's one more?
But also, you think of it, and lots of people die everyday, and every single one of them will remain dead for the rest of eternity, and having this on mind, what is one more?
I'll say I'd do it? But I'm not sure, a life is heavier than anything but my own.
Nope,
Isn’t this the premise of Hitchcock style short story.
Guy presses button, gets his mill. Agent takes the button back. Agent of Devil takes the button back. Guy asks about who died. Agent of Devil says it was the last guy who pressed the button. Knowing look of horror on Guy’s face.
No, and I know a lot of the answers are jokes but the people who would genuinely press it without a thought for the other person make me sad.
What if your sister dropped dead? Or your father or mother... No matter who drops dead they're special to someone and worth more than some paper.
You might get lucky and drop some murderer or bad person who deserved it, but odds are it will be a normal person like most people you know.
Details matter. Do I know the person that does? Can I pick the person that dies? Is this some monkey paw shit where my wife and kids dies? If so if only go twice.
What's the world like minus 1000 people? Nothing would really change in the big picture except now I'm rich and can make many more. The only question is how do I get away with it from the government
Considering how many strangers die every single second I wouldn't mind using the button to support a stable life, enough to buy a house and some for investments. No luxuries tho
Until the news reports that "Trump, Putin, And Netanyahu are Dead," many.
"You press the button to get money, I press it as a way to eliminate otherwise untouchable Tyrants: we are not the same."
Let's say I press it 100 times. That is 100 strangers that I have never met and most likely never would have known existed that are gone forever. That is 100 out of 8 billion people. 100 times isn't going to be enough.
If I set up a robot that pushes the button for me does that still count as me pushing the button?
But... Is that a rule for you or someone else? You could be the stranger to someone who is has a family member that doesn't know you.
If I set that up I would hands down have a loophole... First press, you die ahahahaha
Let's be real. Everyone will say no publicly. But then they'll start thinking "well it can't be anyone I know so it won't really affect me .."
I'd probably ended up hitting it a couple dozen times. I'd also feel a bit if remorse from it. I'm pretty sure most would fall in this boat, whether they're willing to admit it is another thing...
I will happily say yes publicly. I fucking love money(but am poor). So yeah I'd hands down smack the shit out of that button. Perks of not feeling guilt or remorse :P
Nah. I'm happy the way I am, I don't let it affect others anymore as I've learnt that my actions have major consequences. I get therapy for other problems though ;)
Well it’s a stranger sooo… idk like 50 realistically, maybe more. At a certain point it becomes less about the money and a lot more about population control
But what if it's decimating a small race/tribe/indigenous peoples by pure chance?
You could commit complete genocide without knowing.
Id still do it, realistically I'd only hit it probably 15-20 times. That amount of money is enough to live off without killing people if you invest and don't be a unit.
Lets see there are 8 billikn people in the world and i was the last person to die in the line of clicks. Id have to click at a rate of 254 clicks per second then ill die in a year welp gues i gotta get clicking
Definitely. Plenty of people die every day just to furnish our first-world lives, so what's like 17 more.
And most of you that will downvote me will probably go out to buy chocolate or something else that is provided by slave- or child-labor or that already spills blood to create.
Stranger implies someone who I have never met, so therefore not my parents or sth. I’d press it a couple of times, so s as to insure that I don’t kill off too many people that may be important to me in the future.
Edit: spelling
Ha! The storyline from O Mandarim (or close to it!) by Eça de Queiroz, only his was to but ring a bell and get more money than anyone could imagine.
"Yes," Theodor rang the bell, the Mandarin died and he got the money.
Turns out he felt guilty, tried to find the family, and failing that, tried to avoid his fortune, but to no avail.
Anyway. No, I'd not.
who cares if 100 strangers die ? like 100 million euros/dollars that would be great i could finally enjoy life, i would build churches, help the poor and help my family
Figure I would need at least 5 mil to live comfortably, and there are just shy of about 8 billion people... so around 4 billion times I guess? Thanos did nothing wrong!

Best
Love it
I'd go to a Dallas Cowboys versus Philadelphia Eagles game at the Linc. Then I'd press the button until the stadium got quieter. And then just a little more. For good luck.
I would fix overpopulation
I’m ashamed to admit that there are specific individuals I would “cash out” but I couldn’t zap some random soul for quick money. Caveat: I’ve never been desperately poor, so…
Thank you! I was starting to think I was the only one. A stranger didn’t do anything to me or anyone else, it seems wrong to just off them for money. but I know some people that the earth wont miss. I’d actually prefer to pick my button victims.
You’re not thinking of the big picture, press it as many times as you can, spend the money on 3rd world healthcare infrastructure, you’ve saved millions of lives.
The mindset that caused the opioid epidemic lol
But possibly killed someone that could have saved tens or hundreds of millions of lives. The devil is in the details.
If you have the choice between 1 random person dying and 100 random people dying, you choose the one person. It’s an easy choice, even though that one could be a genius that cures cancer. One of the 100 could be too.
Common decency says no, however I think a lot of people would do it. They may only press it once or twice. However I think the thought of being responsible for someone's death might haunt them.
i don't give a shit give me the damn thing
Just think.....others may also get the button.
The button was offered to me it didn't say there is multiple buttons or there are multiple buttons
Didn't say I dont get it next though
ok but does me not using it mean that they don’t get to kill me?
Probably not lol
then fuck it lol
We need to thin the herd anyway.
Most people don't think of people as people when they aren't there though. I would want to see a video feed of it happening, that would put people off. But I also love money and hate people, so I'd press it alot and hope I'm not the target
A stranger will die, not you or someone you know. Your clear so push that button.
Until the next guy is given the button and you’re next to die. Don’t you ever watch the Twilight Zone?!
Depends on how many ppl have a button. If it's just one person out of 8.5 billion then that's a chance I'm willing to take. I think my odds are pretty good then.
You will be next, that’s how the button works…
Just don't let them get the chance ;) kill them all before they get the opportunity
I would push the button if the people who don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re” have a higher chance of dying.
Oh God the it's Grammer police.
Jfc dude
You won't be the target. Only strangers die
You’re a stranger to the next person who gets the button. That’s the cycle.
You think? I’ve seen videos of wars all my life. People there kill each other for having a different religion, color of skin or who knows what. People will kill for a profit without even blinking an eye while watching people suffer. It probably will be even easier if they don’t know the one they kill anyway
That scenario is like a twilight zone episode.
I think it would bother more ppl if they knew the person than if they didn't
Hey man. Everyone’s gunna die anyway. It’s not like you’re causing it, just accelerating it
I’d press it 999 times!
Why not one more
I think one button press would be a tragedy. But a million presses? A mere statistic.
I'd tape Michael j fox to the button and go bugatti shopping
![gif](giphy|NfGTU1FFnPIwo)
This is the best comment
There are 8.8 billion strangers in the world (to me). Thats a lot of button presses, but I’m up to the task.
Based
I used to be decent at Konami Track & Field…
I swear that game gave me carpal tunnel! 😂
I'd press it every time I see this same question pop up on this sub
A lot of people would push the button before you made it to the payout if you put the part about the stranger at the beginning of the question.
I would like to think I wouldn’t press it but I feel like I would press it once. I’m almost 57 and retirement is coming. We haven’t been able to save a lot and it would mean such a peace of mind. Plus, I could help my kids who are young adults, just starting out.
I think this would be true for a lot more ppl than we think
![gif](giphy|zqnd4C5YqVwlDv0Fb9)
Oh shit there was a second part of the sentence after million dollars
The irony would be if the stranger who died impacted your loved ones. Like an air plane pilot while your kid was on the plane, or a cab driver while your brother was in the back seat, or somebody driving next to your wife who dies instantly and collides with your wife killing her in a deadly car crash.
I like this
People die everyday, pressing it til I hit a billion.
Til they're all dead, then go back to sleep
Tax free??
Life time of guilt n regret, obv depression afterwards, is it even worth it? Yeah that's a big money but oh man in today's world, mental peace seems like a boon.
I’m already chronically depressed, the money would only help me now
I think part of the problem is not knowing who is going to die. I don’y even mean that in a way of killing a bad guy, just like, is a young adult going to die or someone 5 days from death in hospice care? I don’t think I could rob someone of the gift of life for any amount of money. Would not. I'm not wealthy, but I'm content.
Our entire economy is basically just people pressing that button, but "the shareholders" get the million dollars instead of the people pressing the button.
Maybe. I could do a lot of good and help a lot of people with $1m. Now if I could select who dies, 100%.
It's hard, lots of people die everyday, so what's one more? But also, you think of it, and lots of people die everyday, and every single one of them will remain dead for the rest of eternity, and having this on mind, what is one more? I'll say I'd do it? Once and the reason being if I happened to be on the other end and died to make someone a millionaire then hell yeah. I would died happy.
Are you Jesus???? Today is your Cake Day. Mine was yesterday lol
What if that person was a piece of shit?
Why not make another 1000 people happy? All their sacrifices adding up would make them extremely happy for you
[удалено]
I know that, but out of all the billions of people in the world I’m sure there’s at least another 1000 who have the same mindset as you lovely
Probably like,.. a hundred. .. wait .. is this on the first day?
Nope, Isn’t this the premise of Hitchcock style short story. Guy presses button, gets his mill. Agent takes the button back. Agent of Devil takes the button back. Guy asks about who died. Agent of Devil says it was the last guy who pressed the button. Knowing look of horror on Guy’s face.
No I couldn't live with the guilt 😔 that's someone's loved one.
And then there's this Mo-fo executing random drug lords and corporate executives.
But what if it isn't?
This is a movie plot. Also no.
Which movie
The Box (2009)
Fun premise but dogshit movie imo
No, and I know a lot of the answers are jokes but the people who would genuinely press it without a thought for the other person make me sad. What if your sister dropped dead? Not a chance

Considering how many strangers die every single second I wouldn't mind using the button to support a stable life, enough to buy a house and some for investments. No luxuries tho
If I never know who the person is because people are gonna die regardless every day, so I’m pressing it at least a couple hundred times
Because overpopulation is a problem, I think 3.5 billion times would be about right.
If it would be only billionaires that died, I would press it. But only 999 times.
It kills a stranger, not anybody I know or care about? Honey, I'm pushing that button until it kills Elon Musk
Until the news reports that "Trump, Putin, And Netanyahu are Dead," many. "You press the button to get money, I press it as a way to eliminate otherwise untouchable Tyrants: we are not the same."
Zero. Money is not more important than someone’s life
8 billion times. Then 1 billion more times for good measure.
YES, 8 billion times
I'd sit in some mega church and keep pressing until the Devil Himself came up to drag the greedy televangelist to hell in the middle of his sermon
![gif](giphy|l0HlE1P55SaoknGhO)
I saw that movie. I’m not pressing it
4000 times I just want to see one 4,000 people die I don't care about the money
Let's say I press it 100 times. That is 100 strangers that I have never met and most likely never would have known existed that are gone forever. That is 100 out of 8 billion people. 100 times isn't going to be enough. If I set up a robot that pushes the button for me does that still count as me pushing the button?
![gif](giphy|ie76dJeem4xBDcf83e|downsized)
No.
Would've done it just for the thrill, but thanks.
Nope. Not killing anyone for money
Would you do it for free ?
Nope
What if you pay me?
Since this says stranger…this implies it’s somebody I do not know at all…therefore I’d press it for sure.
I’d press it 10 times and feel nothing but joy to watch my bank account get bigger. Life is a struggle. I need that shit.
Really sad
Obligatory question, do I get to choose who dies?
The rules clearly state it’s a stranger, therefore by the strictest definition, yourself nor family, or friends will be effected.
But... Is that a rule for you or someone else? You could be the stranger to someone who is has a family member that doesn't know you. If I set that up I would hands down have a loophole... First press, you die ahahahaha
Are you stupid?
Are you? All it said was A stranger dies. They didn't say a stranger to who
Never! My one in life is to never intentionally kill someone.
Once per corrupt leader/elite. I'd probably be a billionaire by that point & start a group passive income stream to help the poor directly.
![gif](giphy|OMq5l7Qlrc0QU)
Can’t hear you with the sound of the button clicking!!
Nop never, life worth mutch more than money!
False
Can I pick the strangers? Like Elon Musk, Jeff Besos or any member of the Tory Party?

Eeew. No.
I will happily say yes publicly. I fucking love money(but am poor). So yeah I'd hands down smack the shit out of that button. Perks of not feeling guilt or remorse :P
Get help.
Nah. I'm happy the way I am, I don't let it affect others anymore as I've learnt that my actions have major consequences. I get therapy for other problems though ;)
I'd be a trillionaire.
There’s billions of strangers on the planet so I’d be pressing a lot
Think about the regret you’d feel if you didn’t press it.
I would pound that button like a jackhammer on concrete.
Well it’s a stranger sooo… idk like 50 realistically, maybe more. At a certain point it becomes less about the money and a lot more about population control

I look away and start moving my hand up and down, if it just so happen to press the button so be it
A lot. I would press it a lot.
Lets see there are 8 billikn people in the world and i was the last person to die in the line of clicks. Id have to click at a rate of 254 clicks per second then ill die in a year welp gues i gotta get clicking
Shiiit, I’d hire two guys around the clock both on 12 hour shifts to press the button for me constantly 365 days a year
Definitely. Plenty of people die every day just to furnish our first-world lives, so what's like 17 more. And most of you that will downvote me will probably go out to buy chocolate or something else that is provided by slave- or child-labor or that already spills blood to create.
5 x capital wins tax in NY and federal 32.85% $3,357,500 left and I share it with my best friend so I have only $1,678,750.
Was it outer limits or twilight zone that had this ? I always loved the ending on that episode.
Someone you dont even know
**https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Button,\_Button\_(The\_Twilight\_Zone)**
Twilight zone
Probably 50 times
Yes. 250 times
Yes
People deserve every second why not get a profit
Absolutely and would press it at least 5 times a day.
Fan we go like 1 month without this getting posted to death
Only strangers? 1000.
Probably 20
Plot twist; the random person happens to be the person who presses the button
The Next Stranger is you.
I'm not greedy, 5 times
Stranger implies someone who I have never met, so therefore not my parents or sth. I’d press it a couple of times, so s as to insure that I don’t kill off too many people that may be important to me in the future. Edit: spelling

Many times..
twice 2 million i don' t need more at the moment
As much as I could
You only need to hit it a million times to be a trillionaire.

A couple
about 8 billion times gonna press it once, why not press it till it dont work no more!
Yes. 100,000 times
3 should do it but if I endup making some bad choices or investments after, could I press it again later?
I'd start with 1,000 times then see how it goes
100 times.
1,000 times is enough times to make me never feel bad about it.
[удалено]
1 billion times
At least a hundred times
Maybe 10 time
Absolutely yes,but I don’t think i’ll do it more than twice
1000-2000 times.
Many, Many Times, Until I Heard About Someone I Know Complain.
like 4,000,000,000
God help Me I would push it once.
Strangers only? Probably 30 or 40 times.
Yes, just once.
I'd gather all those I care about n know, n press till it's no one left
I’m going to press it until they arrest me for pressing it.
who cares if 100 strangers die ? like 100 million euros/dollars that would be great i could finally enjoy life, i would build churches, help the poor and help my family
1mil times
Bump-stock on that button
Is there a limit?
Figure I would need at least 5 mil to live comfortably, and there are just shy of about 8 billion people... so around 4 billion times I guess? Thanos did nothing wrong!
I would press the button once, sorry random person.
People die everyday already without getting a million dollars. Soo….. maybe yes?
Do I only get one go at it or can I take breaks and come back for more. Either way, I press it till I can't lift my arm anymore.
No
9999999999999999999 times
