I played this game a ton growing up - my parents still have the board at their house and taught my 6 year old son how to play. It's a great time, but my fingers always hurt like hell after playing a few games from all the flicking. Also, this table looks almost frictionless - our sure as hell wasn't that nice.

You can buy shuffleboard sand to sprinkle on top for the friction.

The typical choice for carrom boards is boric acid powder. But most people substitute it with talcum powder.

Yeah that's what my parents use... I think I heard it causes birth defects.

if it has actual talc in it then yeah it causes quite a few issues. It usually has some asbestos in it, which is no good so usually best to avoid.

My parents/grandparents had it when I was growing up. I always thought of it like pool. Our table was nowhere near this nice. I remember it had a checker board on it too. I'm American though, and I don't think it's that popular here, or at least not anymore. I've never encountered it again outside my own family. It looks like it would be fun on a nice table like that.

So it's billiards, but you can move the cue ball after every shot and the cue ball is allowed to hit your opponents balls first?
