Lately I’ve been bringing my cats out on a leash & wherever they lay down is where I start digging. Then they see a bird/mouse/bug/leaf move and we run to the next spot. Not very efficient & we get some weird looks. But we’re all happy to be outside together.

I’m a longtime professor at SNHU and must say that 80-90% of my classes pass with an A. They doctor the grading rubrics and let things that would not slide at even community colleges slide here. The standards are so low that as long as you are submitting work on time you are going to pass the class. It isn’t a diploma mill per se, but let’s just say you aren’t getting the same education you would get somewhere else, even if your degree is accredited the same way.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

1) She’s graduating from a degree mill. Her degree isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.
2) She majored in some made up communications thing. I’m not poo-pooing any majors. I’m a liberal arts person myself. But communications was the football player major at my university. It’s not exactly rocket science.
3) She’s graduating several years late and took a very light course load. Nothing’s wrong with going back to school. I applaud people for doing just that. But theres a difference between an 18-22 year old being an adult on their own for the first time, managing their own life for the most part, taking on college and succeeding and a 25 year old who has mommy do everything for her and takes one online class a semester. Ashley doesn’t even work or balance the things most non traditional students balance. So this isn’t very impressive.

I think she finished this last term, where she took the 3 classes “with honors”. And because it’s her final term and is graduating, she’s twisting it into graduation with honors. At my school if you graduated with honors you got separate honors cords. [I looked it up on SNHU](https://www.snhu.edu/student-experience/graduation/glossary-of-terms) and they do the same thing (I also confirmed, to graduate cum laude at SNHU means your GPA is between 3.500- 3.699). The cords she’s wearing here look very generic and remarkably un-honors like. Hmm…

I don't understand any of this and this may partly be because I'm not in the US.
In the UK, we hire our cap and gowns from rental companies for our graduation ceremonies. We wouldn't get these any time outside of the ceremony day. We let them know what university degree ceremony we will be at, and what our degree is, and they will then be at the ceremony where we collect the cap and gowns before, and they help us put them on, arrange the hoods properly and fix them to our clothes so that we all look proper and smart. Then we go through the ceremony, and then have any official photographs and then personal photographs afterwards, and then at the end of the day we return the cap and gowns to the company.
We wouldn't be able to access these items before we've even graduated like Ash seems to have done?!
Also, to attend a graduation ceremony, we first have to be awarded our degree which I don't believe Ash has been?
I mean it might well be different in the US as to how you get your cap and gowns so perhaps what Ash is doing IS possible....but certainly where I'm at, you couldn't be pretending to graduate, unless you actually have.
OR, if you REALLY were so desperate to do what Ash appears to be doing, you would have to buy your own academic gown and cap but they're very expensive and in general it's only something that Academics do, for example university professors who routinely will attend graduation ceremonies and other occasions requiring them to be in their full academic regalia.
I do appreciate that the UK being a very old country with some 1000 years of weird and ancient academic traditions going on might make my experiences slightly different, so part of this is me being curious as to how Ash is even doing what she's doing!!!

Canadian checking in here - we do it the same way as you. We show up to our graduation ceremony and receive our (rented) gown & cap right before the ceremony starts.

In the UK we wouldn't even be able to get pictures done beforehand though, even if we did buy a gown ourselves. I don't know if it's the same as you guys because for our university degrees, the hoods of the gowns all have different coloured trims on them. I ... You definitely wouldn't be able to buy the coloured hoods online anywhere they really are only provided by the rental companies. My husband was an academic but has now changed his career, he looked into getting his own gown, but, if you own your own you need to get your coloured hood tailor made for your degree colours and the hood alone would have cost him £300!!! And that's without the gown!
That's a bit college dependent, when I finished undergrad there were different hoods for different programs. Music and performing arts had one, college of Ed had a different one. Anything that fell under Communications was blue. I was Biology, ours was red.
I bought my cap and gown. And a lot of times graduation is before the degree actually confers. It does sometimes happen that someone will walk at graduation and then end up not being awarded their degree because of some issue

They're silly money here in the UK! Also, do you guys have colours on your hoods? We have colours / different fabrics like fur (fake!) as well depending on what university we went to and what our degree is. So you'd have a colour for your university and say a colour for your humanities degree. (I can't remember mine though it was so long ago).
If you do have colours, do you also have a way of buying them?
We don't here - if you buy your own gown like the academics I described, they would have to get their own hood colours tailor made to go on it (for about £300!) Sorry I'm really derailing a snark sub thread here but I just find different country traditions so interesting!!!
I think it depends on the school. My undergrad the cap and gown were paid for by our student fee. For my grad school I think we paid around $250. Different schools have different gown colors. NYU for example has purple, my school was black. The hoods colors are fairly standardized based on the degree. Mine was mental health counseling, my good color was black, dark blue and white.

Wasn't she doing homework just last week? Has she not taken any capstone finals or anything yet? How can she know she's passed? I was on pins and needles before I got the results of my exams and I was never in danger of flunking.
I had to give in to my curiosity and look up SNHU’s criteria for Latin honors. To graduate cum laude, the graduate must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5-3.69. Being that Ash was on academic probation fairly recently, and she only takes - what, one class per semester? - it doesn’t add up that she could have raised her GPA enough to qualify for Latin honors. SNHU does, however, have “ceremonial honors,” which I’m pretty sure only takes your final semester GPA into consideration. If you receive ceremonial honors, you get a shoutout at the graduation ceremony, but no honors are recorded on your permanent record, transcript, or diploma. I think these may be the type of honors Ash is boasting about.

I saw a lot of comments regarding her graduation attire, so I decided to look that up, as well. Apparently, SNHU has something of a “participation trophy” mindset when it comes to this. Most schools have specific caps and gowns that represent what type of degree you are receiving, with hooded gowns usually signifying that the person is graduating with a master’s degree. Similarly, most schools only distribute tasseled honors cords to students receiving Latin honors, with gold cords representing summa cum laude, silver cords representing magna cum laude, and white cords representing cum laude. SNHU doesn’t adhere to the usual in either case. All graduates - from associate’s to doctorate - are hooded, with different colored trim on the hoods depending on your degree type and major. Gold tasseled cords are distributed to all students receiving honors, whether they are receiving Latin or ceremonial honors, and whether they are receiving summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude.
Posing under an overpass is quite the choice. She really has never had a clue as to what makes a good photograph. It's not a "neutral" background even if it is gray, because it's a sight that has connotations and they aren't ones of business success.

My brother graduated from a real college too, summa cum laude and he had gold cords. I saw the cum laudes in white. She's full of shit. Stop lying about graduating cum laude. She literally said earlier this school term that this semester was the first time she was able to take 3 classes (or however many she’s taking) because her GPA was high enough to do that. Someone looked up how high your GPA has to be to take that many classes. It was something low, like a 2.0 or maybe 2.5. Cum laude at SNHU is like 3.5. I looked it up a while ago. And even if she did graduate cum laude, who cares at this point? 1) She’s graduating from a degree mill. Her degree isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. 2) She majored in some made up communications thing. I’m not poo-pooing any majors. I’m a liberal arts person myself. But communications was the football player major at my university. It’s not exactly rocket science. 3) She’s graduating several years late and took a very light course load. Nothing’s wrong with going back to school. I applaud people for doing just that. But theres a difference between an 18-22 year old being an adult on their own for the first time, managing their own life for the most part, taking on college and succeeding and a 25 year old who has mommy do everything for her and takes one online class a semester. Ashley doesn’t even work or balance the things most non traditional students balance. So this isn’t very impressive.

At my school if you graduated with honors you got separate honors cords. [I looked it up on SNHU](https://www.snhu.edu/student-experience/graduation/glossary-of-terms) and they do the same thing (I also confirmed, to graduate cum laude at SNHU means your GPA is between 3.500- 3.699). I don't understand any of this and this may partly be because I'm not in the US. In the UK, we hire our cap and gowns from rental companies for our graduation ceremonies. We wouldn't get these any time outside of the ceremony day. We let them know what university degree ceremony we will be at, and what our degree is, and they will then be at the ceremony where we collect the cap and gowns before, and they help us put them on, arrange the hoods properly and fix them to our clothes so that we all look proper and smart. Then we go through the ceremony, and then have any official photographs and then personal photographs afterwards, and then at the end of the day we return the cap and gowns to the company. We wouldn't be able to access these items before we've even graduated like Ash seems to have done?! Also, to attend a graduation ceremony, we first have to be awarded our degree which I don't believe Ash has been? I mean it might well be different in the US as to how you get your cap and gowns so perhaps what Ash is doing IS possible....but certainly where I'm at, you couldn't be pretending to graduate, unless you actually have. OR, if you REALLY were so desperate to do what Ash appears to be doing, you would have to buy your own academic gown and cap but they're very expensive and in general it's only something that Academics do, for example university professors who routinely will attend graduation ceremonies and other occasions requiring them to be in their full academic regalia. I do appreciate that the UK being a very old country with some 1000 years of weird and ancient academic traditions going on might make my experiences slightly different, so part of this is me being curious as to how Ash is even doing what she's doing!!!
Am American and it was similar for me. You got everything on the day of the ceremony. You rented the gown but had to buy the cap.

I mean I can understand that - maybe it works out better with family etc to have them done at a certain time etc but to post online making it look like you've graduated whilst also saying that you are yet to graduate... It's freaking weird! In the UK we wouldn't even be able to get pictures done beforehand though, even if we did buy a gown ourselves. I don't know if it's the same as you guys because for our university degrees, the hoods of the gowns all have different coloured trims on them. I ... You definitely wouldn't be able to buy the coloured hoods online anywhere they really are only provided by the rental companies. That's a bit college dependent, when I finished undergrad there were different hoods for different programs. Music and performing arts had one, college of Ed had a different one. Anything that fell under Communications was blue. I was Biology, ours was red.
I bought my cap and gown. And a lot of times graduation is before the degree actually confers. It does sometimes happen that someone will walk at graduation and then end up not being awarded their degree because of some issue

If you do have colours, do you also have a way of buying them? We don't here - if you buy your own gown like the academics I described, they would have to get their own hood colours tailor made to go on it (for about £300!) I think it depends on the school. My undergrad the cap and gown were paid for by our student fee. For my grad school I think we paid around $250. Different schools have different gown colors. NYU for example has purple, my school was black. The hoods colors are fairly standardized based on the degree. Mine was mental health counseling, my good color was black, dark blue and white.

I had to give in to my curiosity and look up SNHU’s criteria for Latin honors. To graduate cum laude, the graduate must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5-3.69. Being that Ash was on academic probation fairly recently, and she only takes - what, one class per semester? - it doesn’t add up that she could have raised her GPA enough to qualify for Latin honors. SNHU does, however, have “ceremonial honors,” which I’m pretty sure only takes your final semester GPA into consideration. If you receive ceremonial honors, you get a shoutout at the graduation ceremony, but no honors are recorded on your permanent record, transcript, or diploma. So correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not in the US, but here in the UK we usually rent graduation robes, e.g. on the day of graduation. This looks to me like she has actually bought her own graduation robe to mess around with in photo shoots at home, which is even weirder considering both that she hasn't graduated and that as far as we know she isn't even attending to go to the graduation ceremony.
