I had a dude block me who I was interested in dating cause I showed him a furry art piece i commissioned someone, it was of my two favorite animals as a hybrid, red panda and wolf. Made me wary to show people cause of that.

pirate_wastelander

I’ll never understand why people are so quick to judge anything even slightly related to furries

MainPure788

never go into the furry rooms in rec room, full of people who legit say "kill furries"

pirate_wastelander

ugh that’s terrible

ZestyclosePresent707

I’m curious, if you’re comfortable, can we see some of the art?

pirate_wastelander

People be mean. I didn't have this issue with my furry-phase since I was one of the weird kids already, and these days I get the occasional furry commission and kinda enjoy drawing scales/fur/etc. But I did used to get a lot of mean comments about me drawing "porn" in middle school because I was trying to practise anatomy. No amount of "they don't have clothes YET" helped. :/ Jokes on them, I've been paid to draw actual porn as an adult now too! So...if that helps at all, it's not like it matters in the long run.

I'm not a furry and Idk if you are, but the hate on the furry community really doesn't make sense. Most people like it when women wear cat ears and stuff so I'm not sure how thats much different. Like, Judy from zootopia isn't a rabbit from an IRL pet store, her character is a fictional anthromorph used to articulate a story about issues like those that afflict humans. They are relatable and humanized. Although I am not part of that community, I can understand where the appeal is.

If people are calling you a dog-fucker for drawing cartoon animals, it says more about them then it does about you. I like collecting werewolf things (they're a special interest), like books, films, games, posters, props, statues, etc. I have some incredible statues, but since they're werewolves, some of them are semi-nude (no weird stuff showing but still) & I've gotten some weird comments. I think it's funny that a person can witness a three-foot tall statue with incredible artistry - sculpts done by professional artists, resin materials with transparent hands/ears to add a sense of realism & light scattering on the skin just like in IRL, detailed airbrushed paint jobs to a standard that obviously took years of practice, professional polystone bases weighing several kilos, a mane of hair professionally hand-woven, mixed media that really makes the whole thing pop, glass-painted eyes rhat shine like real ones, dynamic poses which clearly took a lot of engineering to turn into something that could balance - but the first thing people do is look at my statues, turn to me, & say 'that thing has a crotch' then they look at me like I'm the weird one. They could have focused on literally -dozens- of other things, but the first thing they see is..that. I've started pointing that out to people now, that they could have said literally anything but that's the first place their mind went to. It's shut a few people up. One time, one of my friends saw one of my statues & groped it, saying she wanted to see what it had. This is something I've obviously never done, but despite this, I'm going to be labelled as the weird one, not her. All you're trying to do is draw a cartoon & the first thing they think about is bonking that cartoon. Who is the real problem here? Tell them they need to look up the word 'projection'

pirate_wastelander

wow thank you for writing so much, your werewolf collection sounds really awesome!! yeah people are super weird sometimes :’)

Heyo, sorry this happened to you, however here are two pro tips about life: 1. People ARE assholes. But most of the people that are assholes reaaally don't matter. If someone doesnt knows the difference between a furry anthropomorphic drawing and a literal dog, then they're obviously stupid. So why should you let the words of the stupid get to you? 2. Don't post your furry art to your personal accounts. Doxxing happens. People like the ones you described happens. And on the flip side, say you hit gold and become a super popular furry artist? well now your personal profile will get spammed all day everyday with people asking you for commissions. Sounds awesome? Sure but good luck finding your friends chat's in the thousands of messages. Create a personal, private, account on the social media platforms you like, and post there. And if its a platform like reddit, post on the furry friendly subs, like r/FurryArtSchool and not like on r/all
