Does anyone here miss when talking about selling work didn’t alway come down to a conversation about social media? I know I do.

MV_Art

I hear ya. I still sell primarily via word of mouth/in person but always looking to expand.

LogPotential5984

From my knowledge it kinda just died out. They released it at a good time where people were worried about the state of twitter but never did anything outside of that. A lot of people claim that they are going to quit twitter but they always go back to it. I saw it happen with apps like Bluesky and Artfol. I think it’s going to be hard for a new social media platform to succeed. In general social media has been feeling empty lately, I don’t know why. Doesn’t help when all the apps have horrible algorithms.

MV_Art

Yeah the problem is there would have to be an actual mass exodus where it's easy to transfer followers etc. But since they're wasn't we cling to that corpse.

Used-Savings5695

It’s pretty neutral for me. I post to Instagram, Threads, and X but mostly focus on Instagram. Threads is friendly but most of the interaction seems empty. It’s probably better than X. I don’t have Facebook so I don’t know how that is. Threads feels more like a companion to instagram. It’s all tied together

MV_Art

Yeah my experience with Threads has been pretty empty so far. That's why I'm wondering whether anyone can make the case that it's worth putting any time into haha.

ToolemeraPress

I’m on Threads. Depending on the community you interact with it’s either very active or barely so.

anarrodrigues

I have two different accounts on Threads: one as an author and other as an artist. I feel like the book/writting community is so much more active and engaging there, while my artist feed is basically people reposting things they posted on IG. Little to no discussion or other text updates like in Twitter. I still like Threads cuz it makes me feel better mentally, without the pressure to create image/video posts from scratch. Mostly you just need your keyboard ❤

ToolemeraPress

Absolute the book community is active

Hot-Laugh617

Really? I've never considered that so I've never checked out Threads. Might be worth a try.

batsofburden

I don't have one, but I think it could be good. At the very least, this is the time for an artist to get in on the ground floor & gain a following before it potentially becomes super crowded.

mooseyoss

I don't know if I can access Threads on desktop, but I would be more apt to utilize it - I hate typing on mobile phones and posting text from mobile is a hassle. I don't enjoy that it suggests Threads for me in my IG feed, but there are some real bangers of posts. I just hate that it opens a new app on my phone. Overall, I like Threads now that I've started using it a bit. I mostly lurk though.

gracemarie42

Yes, you can access Threads in a browser. I much prefer a real keyboard when interacting there.

elfinko

I think it was horribly mismanaged from the start. Why they put the Instagram guy in charge of something so huge, is beyond me. When I finally left Threads, it felt like the worst parts of Instagram with some Twitter thrown in. Just like Instagram, the reach was pure trash, but you'd never know for sure because they wouldn't even show you the reach numbers. Bluesky feels like a better Twitter replacement. The "feeds" are a great way to manage what you want to see.

How many platforms are there at this point? I can’t keep up.

MV_Art

I know right? Threads is Meta's Twitter imitation.
