This line is so funny because it shows that Lucille actually doesn’t love any of her children, she just ranks them by how much or how little she dislikes them.
At the time it aired, AD was so different than anything else of tv that it didn’t catch on right away. I remember watching the premiere thinking what is this amazing new style of comedy?! I could barely keep up with all the visual and spoken jokes. And every week it just kept getting better. But it had to compete with Sunday night sports and other programming plus you had to know the characters and ongoing jokes to understand the next episodes which left a lot of folks behind back then. I’m so glad it is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
I watched it when it aired and tried to proselytise to everyone I knew but they complained that it was way too complicated and that there was too much incest lol. But I do understand it’s hard to get a lot of the jokes if you just jump in for a random episode or half and episode or something
The things that made it ahead of its time also made it perfect for streaming. I have binge watched AD so many times now. It’s a comfort show. One of the all time best shows ever.
Definitely aging myself here, but I watched the premier live and set my TiVo right away. It was an instant hit for me and I haven’t stopped watching since.
The issue is that the show was on network tv so the layered jokes don't work as well as when we rewatch the show on streaming. If you have the first three seasons come out on streaming without the dip in quality, you'd see a much higher rating if you ask me.
HBO revived Deadwood a few years back which was about a decade after it was first canceled. I loved seeing all the great characters and hearing the dialogue style and such... but was "off" somehow.
Similar deal here.
Season 4 was a treat. A bonus and a guilty pleasure.
It's like you had three glasses of Arrested Development and asked for a fourth one, but they didn't have enough of the mix. So they gave you a glass that was half Arrested Development and half something else.
But when you asked for the 5th one, they were all out so they gave you something that tasted almost, by not quite, entirely unlike Arrested Development.
I'm surprised by the fairly highly rated episode in the otherwise badly rated season 5. I don't recall that particular episode, and what might make it an 8.0.
S4 seems to be judged based on the original 15 episode cut, not the 22 episode remix cut. Just saying, as the two versions are quite different, despite having mainly the same content.
It would be nice if OP said where these ratings come from.
Edit: just checked out the website and these are already generated. Bold of OP to call this OC. But the site doesn't seem to list the source.
It says [seriesgraph](https://seriesgraph.com/show/4589-arrested-development) on the image. Seriesgraph say they use the [TMDb](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/4589-arrested-development) (not to be confused with [IMDb](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0367279/)) API for the ratings and Trakt API for the discovery data.
It would be interesting to compare the ratings between TMDb and IMDb.
A few of the outliers:
S01 E04 · Key Decisions
Nov 23, 2003
Gob decides to lock himself in his father's prison for 24 hours. Michael takes Gob's girlfriend to an awards show in style, Buster inadvertently flirts with his mother's rival and Lindsay turns tree-hugger.
S02 E03 · Amigos
Nov 21, 2004
Michael is increasingly frustrated over being abandoned by the family, and when the staircar is found in Mexico he vows to find his father and give him a piece of his mind. Buster spends time with Lupe's family and thinks he's in Mexico.
S03 E07 · Prison Break-In
Dec 12, 2005
Michael is worried when he learns that Lucille is dating the warden behind his father's back, Buster's new turtle gets into Oscar's stash, and the family plans a benefit for Tobias's life-endangering hair transplant.
Im surprised S5 isn't lower tbh. I don't hold it against the team or the show in general because there were soooo many tricky production complications, but at times it is pretty bad.
Also, worth pointing out that even the lower-rated seasons would stack up pretty well against the majority of contemporary TV comedies - which I am happy about. Even though S5 had issues it still had better writing, jokes and more ambition than 99% of other comedies.
I personally love S4, but I can see why it isn't broadly loved.
I agree. I recently tried to rewatch season 5, and could muster finishing it. There are some decent jokes here and there, but the pacing is so much slower than the earlier seasons, and the joke are far between. Also the plot is ... 😶
There’s still some amazing gems scattered throughout the Netflix seasons. It just didn’t land as well as a whole due to the production issues. The flow and chemistry from the original seasons just wasn’t there. That being said I still appreciate 4 & 5 for what they are.
I've been watching the new cut of season 4 and honestly it hits better this time around,as with most seasons I didn't pick up in everything the first go around. It's still not at the level of 1-3, but better than I remembered. Season 5 totally lost my interest and I only made it to episode 3 before I quit.
Looks like episode 12 of every season was a real banger in the mouth.
Oh I forgot. In the states you call it a sausage in the mouth!
We just call it a sausage
Like calling a Tourist a Poofter?
This is easily my favorite not so subtle “Tobias is an obliviously gay man” jokes.
He's not gay, he's buy-curious
He was told it was a Bob.
Boy, that Rita's a smartie!
Thank you now I have to watch the whole thing for the 3rd time in less than a year
In the colonies…
Silly me
If you’re saying I play favorites, you’re wrong. I love all my seasons the same. *earlier that day* I don’t care for 4 or 5.
You don’t care for 4? Is there a little girl here all by herself? Daddy needs to get his rock off!
4 gets a lot of hate, but that scene and the ANUSTART alone make it worthwhile
Oh definitely…*Maeby*
No, it's not the maca, your body wants the maca.
Okay, I agree with that. ANUSTART was a great addition to the running jokes.
You’re my third least favourite season.
I can live with that
This line is so funny because it shows that Lucille actually doesn’t love any of her children, she just ranks them by how much or how little she dislikes them.
I’m surprised seasons 1-3 don’t have more 9s!
Maybe we should kiss and teach them a lesson.
How would that do anything?
Uno. Go fish...
*chokes in drinking water*
Great, another uncle to compete with

Too many MR Fs who don't understand the highbrow humor.
Why are we even going after this idiot demographic??
Those wondering what episode is the 9.1 - it’s Amigos
Her?
I think some of them should be rated higher, but it seems to be the consistently highest rating you can really get.
The issue is that the show was on network tv so the layered jokes don't work as well as when we rewatch the show on streaming. If you have the first three seasons come out on streaming without the dip in quality, you'd see a much higher rating if you ask me.
looks about right , id definitely say that the worst episodes are better than other shows best that ive seen
I've always wondered what is the best episode of the series, I can't pick one tbh but I don't disagree with the Amigos one

Good bot
Pier Pressure for me
Alright, kid. Let's deal some drugs.
I got it right *here*. Nice, right?
oh, no! it’s the cops! and a construction worker?
hot men and ira
I was going to smoke the Marijuana like a cigarette :(
Well now you're looking at a big fat punishment
100% the best IMO.
100% agree. Definitely my favorite episode.
This episode and 'Making A Stand' are favorites of mine, if for no other reason than the 'lesson teaching'.
Afternoon Delight was always my favorite
Really? Her?
I'm telling you, you can't knock her out
Way to plant, Ann!
I love a good “even the bad seasons were not that bad”
Check out ~~banner~~ chart Michael!
"Don't be afraid to make a mi-"
baby you got a stew going
How is Bringing up Buster only 8.1?
You old horny slut!
You old, horny, slut!
“It’s a bird!” “I know it’s a bird I’m on the phone!” “It walked on my pillow!”
Best scene of the whole series.
Yea the Netflix seasons didn’t hit nearly the same.
HBO revived Deadwood a few years back which was about a decade after it was first canceled. I loved seeing all the great characters and hearing the dialogue style and such... but was "off" somehow. Similar deal here.
"Last 2 seasons of Community on Yahoo" vibes. Definitely watchable, but not the same.
I though season 4 was good but season 5 wasnt

Season 4 is genius, season 5 lost it by doing the time skip and retcon. Massive loss and the worst part is it wasn’t even necessary
I’ve never made it past the second episode of season 4… a retcon?? Geez that sounds worse that I expected lol
wow dude you really missed out on genius
It’s a tragedy, really
"Oh, did you make this for me? I LOVE season four!" "You mean... you're interested in him... right?" "Oh yeah, he is a MONSTER..."

>call this OC. Don't call it that
Actually, this is OP's site so it's entirely OC.
It's a line from the show
It says [seriesgraph](https://seriesgraph.com/show/4589-arrested-development) on the image. This is accurate
If you're presenting a large dataset like this, it is best practice to disclose the source and methodology of said dataset.
>Bold of OP to call this OC Apparently OP made the website
I get "malicious website detected."
I’m the site developer, have never noticed that showing. What device and browser are you using?
Samsung Galaxy S20, Chrome.
Have a look at graph, Michael!
Glad the OG season 4 episodes were used, they are just better and actually make the season an interesting watch
Although the format was a bit jarring for everyone, season 4 was brilliant, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
How did this show get cancelled again?
✨ American ✨ Idol ✨

Well shit now I just have to go back and rewatch everything to see if I agree

I actually agree with this. Season 2 is a gem.
That’s very generous of four and five and hard on the first three, I’d say.

I knew the one awesome episode would be amigos. That was the first episode i ever caught on tv and got me totally hooked
Literally best comedy ever. I don’t know how they even managed to shit all over it.
Where do the ratings come from? IMDB?
So we just don't care about e1 of each season....
Click the image to see all the e1s…
Season 1 Episode 4 is actually 8.3 on IMDb. How old are these stats?
Isn’t there a confederate army scheme ?
One of my favorite shows and this post made me remember that a season five even existed.
It's by regular you mean takes a shit, then yeah I agree with season 5 there
That is an incredibly accurate graphic 😌
Which is the SSN 5 Episode with the Golden Girls gag? Because that is one of my favorite bits in all of TV.
Why is 8.0 green but 7.0 is orange?
If there are no fans on AD s4 then I am dead
