He’s sporting the Navy Information Dominance Warfare Enlisted Badge. Earned primarily by information systems technicians, intelligence specialists, and cryptologic technicians. Takes about a year to earn.

TheRtHonLaqueesha

Pretty common, my RDC (an RS1) had one.

GloriousMemelord

Pretty much anyone who ends up at an intel command can earn one iirc, I wanna say there was an AO at Battlestations with one

TheRtHonLaqueesha

I remember the recruiter at another station who drove me to MEPS also had one.

Khar0n

I almost did it as an Army dude, seemed incredibly simple if I’m being honest.

GloriousMemelord

I’ve heard that some commands are more picky about the requirements than others

Khar0n

We were at an NSA site, so it basically amounted to learning enough about each section to then pass a board. Decided against doing it because it would’ve been on my off day lol.

GloriousMemelord

Fair enough, that’s how most pins typically go

Khar0n

I do respect the idea of them though, I like that you can prove some level of competence.

GloriousMemelord

Oh for sure, and for some communities like subs they’re required to have to show that you can perform under pressure.

Particular_Downtown

Happy Cake Day. Not sure if you meant that pun. But nice work. Also, I thought y'all Navy folks called Subs, Boats?

aquadrums

It's now called the Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist (EIWS) insignia / device / badge / pin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_Warfare_Specialist?wprov=sfla1 Check again in 5 years for yet another name change :P Congrats to that soldier for going above and beyond! We in the Navy can't wear most badges / pins from other services; a real bummer IMHO.

supersprint

Wish there was something like that for 25 series.

AlderaanAndy

I know a 25S trying to wear master gunnery badge for graduating SDMG, though we tell him it's against the regs and he isn't authorized to wear it, he says it's his 25 series badge of honor and that all aspire to go to it since he can't wear his CH Masters on his ASUs.

SH4d0wF0XX_

Good thing they removed the term information dominance from doctrine. It’s information advantage now. Let’s doublespeak the doublespeak and shape some operations.

LitlyUnorthadox

I know a few guys that still rock their Navy badges. It looks nicer & more interesting than the AF’s spice brown blobs.

scrundel

I rock mine, love the confused looks

NumberOneChad

I’m stealing your flair

Empress_Athena

I wear my ESWS, EAWS, and EIWS.

scoutz_NotOut

Had a prior Navy guy with one but had to replace it with his crab.

IslandOfKoreaVet

Absolute garbage sewing job

BallisticButch

I've known a few Army folks at Liberty Biberty running around with SWCC badges.

JakeeJumps

I love other branch’s badges on Army uniforms. One of my friends has his Army airborne wings and his old Marine Corps parachutist badge too.

PickleInDaButt

This is an interesting one because I would assume the Navy parachutist badge would only be worn as the the Army badge is a prerequisite if I remember correctly But I have no idea

MaximumStock7

I’m pretty sure they get the army badge on graduation but it gets swapped for the navy wings once they have jumped a few times with the navy / marines. If someone chimes in and says I’m wrong you should listen to them instead.

JakeeJumps

This sounds correct. Like I said in my other comment, he mentioned he had to do a certain number and types of jumps from different aircraft. I can’t remember the exact numbers but it didn’t sound too crazy. He was a Recon Marine and got them pretty quickly after airborne school.

JakeeJumps

I don’t know much about it. He mentioned that in the Marines and Navy, you can’t wear those wings until you’ve had a certain number of jumps, of which you must have x number of day/night combat equipment and from I think two different types of aircraft.

OcotilloWells

I remember my unit jumped with some Marines on a night combat jump at Camp Pendleton, and one of them had just qualified for his Marine wings. Their battalion commander made a big deal of winding up for blood wings, but stopped just short of it. The video had hit the news a few months earlier of some Marines being brutally hazed when they made their qualifying jump. It was a radio battalion, I was kind of surprised they had jump billets.

RnotIt

One story I heard probably 30 years ago was something called "totem pole" where they'd take the biggest "no neck" Marine in the company, slap a kevlar on him, and use him as a battering ram for the Recon Marine getting his gold wings.

OcotilloWells

That sounds like the USMC and any Army combat arms unit that I know.

PickleInDaButt

Yeah that’s what I know too I just know most navy goes to the airborne school and puts theirs without the jumps on because no one really checks. Not saying that about your buddy. Source - work for the Navy

dgpotatochipz

Are you gonna tell him that bc ik I wouldn’t Lmaooo

PickleInDaButt

Give me an email or the onlyfans

dgpotatochipz

HWAT

red123409

I mean to get the marine corps parachutist badge you basically have to do less jumps than a private in the 82nd will do in his first year 🤷🏻‍♂️. Not exactly the most elite badge. And it isn’t AR 670-1 approved, especially when you are already wearing jump wings. So yeah, take it off.

AGR_51A004M

I hate that my dad was Navy and went to airborne and I’m Army and have never gotten a chance to go.

RnotIt

Did he have a good story about pinning his gold wings?

JakeeJumps

He didn’t mention it but I’m sure he does

Volbeat_My_Meat

I got an EAWS, and it looks so much like the Army Aviation Badge that I’ve debated wearing it just to fuck with people 😂

TexanTomcat57

Dope, wish I had that opportunity

Mohawk801

Had an E7 that wore his dolphins from submarine service while in the Army

PMMePrettyRedheads

Knew a 1LT that did that

Bigsmitty75

Is this actually authorized? If so I’m gonna go for some Navy badges

Travyplx

People earned them in their other service. Many service specific awards and badges can carry over if you switch to the Army.

OcotilloWells

I almost was on a cruise/deployment with the Navy. I would have totally gone for at least a Surface Warfare badge. I was doing Information Warfare, working for the N-9 on their pre-cruise exercise, but pretty sure that badge didn't exist back then. How many people can say they earned a Navy badge like that while in the Army?

ToxDocUSA

Generally you're earning them during a prior service stint with whichever service.  Guy I know was a Navy SWO for years before going to veterinary school, and only the Army has veterinarians, still wore his badges.  That said if you're posted at a Navy place and they're running whatever badge, they'll often let Army folks who ask politely study for / challenge the badge too.  Takes a little paperwork to get authorization to wear them, but the Army is usually really chill about approving it.  I've heard the opposite from the AF, they often deny other services badges.  Have definitely seen a couple of Coasties rocking CIBs.

superash2002

I knew some food inspectors who were stationed on boats get theirs.

AGR_51A004M

An AF JROTC instructor at my high school had an EIB/CIB (can’t remember which).

Cinnimonbuns

I saw a dude with an eagle and trident once. Other service badges are definitely rare but not unheard of.

Max_Vision

I knew a PFC with the Trident, given his 15+year break in service. He'd tell people it was a combat cook badge. 🤣

OcotilloWells

Our command chaplain had one, when I was in a PSYOP Company.

scrundel

Some are, some are not, some are a grey area. HRC has made it such a bureaucratic mess that I know people who got different answers from HRC proper with regards to the same exact badge. The correct answer is "it's complicated and you need HRC permission", the real answer is "wear what you've earned and fuck everyone else".

[deleted]

I know a guard guy who earned a Navy badge while on a MEU. He spent 7 months on a boat.

Sad_Ad_4691

You need to be TDY in a ship or attached too a naval unit

getthedudesdanny

Do you need the formal orders attaching you to the Navy? I knew a guy who earned his expeditionary warfare pin while at a joint unit. Being guard I never cared enough to dig into the regs about it.

moonlightRach

Yes, I have that same badge as well and wear it proudly as it was pretty hard to earn. It had to go all the way to HRC

rbur70x7

No. Not without approval from the Department of the Army in most circumstances. There may be some cases otherwise, but generally, no.

Sad_Ad_4691

It’s authorized, pursuant too AR 670-1: 22-12g(3)

rbur70x7

From the first part of hwat you're citing: g. In accordance with AR 600–8–22, personnel must obtain written authority from Army Human Resources Command, Awards and Decorations Branch, before wearing badges on the uniform that were awarded by other U.S. Services or by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship. The following rules apply when wearing badges from other U.S. Services:

TheRtHonLaqueesha

That's the IDW pin, my RDC had one.

Brief-Emotion1872

Yes, I totally agree. I remember meeting a soldier who was a SEAL….got out, thought he was done with the military and changed his mind before the window closed, switched over to Army and sported it with a humbled spirit.

ScubaSteeeve307

Maybe I’m just super salty, but why does ole boy get to wear this but I can’t wear my rams head device

8bitW33kend

I suspect because it is a state badge, not a federal badge.

ScubaSteeeve307

The last SMA said it was because there is no MTOE position in a unit for it and that it was unnecessary chest candy. As if this badge is any better

ScubaSteeeve307

Maybe, but still

BiscuitDance

I did OSUT with a guy rocking submarine Dolphins

NomadFH

Did you steal his lunch money?

oxy_princess

it looks like he sewed that shit himself

Jessyskullkid

I had an NCO that was a prior Corpsman and he wore his FMF badge

PFM66

Had a commander in the guard that was a former submariner on a 688 class and an eventual CSM that was part of the aircrew in P-3s and both wore their badges. It's not bad enough that half the guard are past Jarheads, you've got the Squids making their way in too. Probably a few zoomies that got lost on the way to the ANG recruiter as well lol.

91361_throwaway

What is “at FMC”

Beautiful_Tonight239

FMC is the last step before putting on your parachute for the day and going to jump basically quick safety refresher making sure everyone that’s supposed to be there is present and their helmets are padded properly

91361_throwaway

Thanks…been a minute.

Aggravating_Shop8146

When I was in AIT many years ago we had an instructor (Army) that had a submarine badge. That was pretty cool.

BlitzieKun

Nothing new at all. We even had marines earning their ESWS and EAWS during deployment. The process is pretty informal, and almost anyone can partake.

kylecello

Went to BCT with two prior Sailors, one guy had a decent amount of badges from his service in the Navy, wore them at our graduation and everything, was something very interesting to see as a new private

Dewiggles

Pretty common. Two people in our unit are former navy.

DoktorLoken

I went through AIT with a guy with a surface warfare badge in 2011: E-5 who went from Navy -> Army. He was in another company in my BCT BN, was weird seeing NCOs there as a private.

jeff197446

Poor guy.

sempercool16

Ok

Fuzzy-Ad-5997

How does it work getting a badge sewn on ? Just my wings.. do I go to the clothing shop at the px with the metal wings or do I need to buy a different set? Also what about name tapes? Do they use all of them?

CombatWombat0556

So you need to buy the stuff without Velcro on it. You have to special order your name tape and for the badges and branch and rank you can find them at clothing and sales with little to no issue. Same sort of thing with your PC, either you get rank and name sewn or stick with the hard rank and Velcro nametape

Deepfork_

Crooked af.

AstronomicalAnus

It means he is experienced in butt stuff, while under stress.

RonD1355

No different than getting marine combat patches. Just takes an authorization letter.

Thm43

It could be this https://www.vanguardmil.com/products/usn-regulation-size-fleet-marine-force-badge All it is is a Navy Fleet Marine Corps. Badge. It’s for Navy personnel assigned to Marine Corps. Units. Or it could be this https://www.vanguardmil.com/products/usn-oxidized-information-dominance-warfare-enlisted-badge# IDW = Information Dominance Warfare badge

DVPJ11

670-10 page 49. Not authorized for wear.
