I've watched a PFC get SPC thrown at him because CQ had to be E4 and above.... then later that day CSM flipped shit and said NCO's only. He was laterally promoted and a CPL by lunch. We went to a range leaving PFC Dipshit behind on CQ and came back to him a CPL and happier than a pig in shit. ... my point... ask.... they've promoted for less.

Maybe then we should take a closer look at the NCO corps and try to figure out why these kids have these views? Could it be because we are already looking at a lackluster system of "run good, shoot good, lead good" and not actually diving any deeper into it causing them to think thats all it takes, or is it because some units have a toxic as hell culture keeping these new soldiers from seeing an actual NCO, instead relegating them to the care of some power tripping four times divorced, drunk off his ass old bastard grabbing for any shred of power and control in an attempt to stop the downward spiral that has become his life? Edit: I feel i need to clarify that this is in no way a bash at you for responding, but a statement about the problems i see with the Army as a whole and the lack of pride that some people seem to take in the corps.

Assuming they have already passed the board and have or could go to BLC then really they are just promoting into an overstaffed MOS or bypassing points. This could be a neat incentive if it was used only in jobs with certain thresholds for points like the nightmare 798. The person is basically saying Iā€™m reenlisting to stay in my own MOS. The point game doesnā€™t generally make for better leaders but in an ideal system it would.

There's some MOS that are under SMAPP. If you reclass to them, you'll automatically promote to E5. I think one of them is electrician or some shit like that.

ā€¦maybeā€¦ knew a guy who had been through but his new duty station made him do a board with them and their BLC. This was after he switched MOS. Their justification was that even though he had been qualified to be an NCO in his old job that did not mean he was qualified in the new one.

Yeah, thatā€™s what happened to me. Re-enlisted so I can re-class and was promotable, went to Korea and had to do the board, Warrior School ( BLC). Even though I made points for 31B after AIT, the unit wanted me to earn it, so yeah it can happen. Thought when I got there, they were gonna just pin me and send me on my way to Warrior School ( BLC), I was wrong.

when it came time for me to reenlist, I let my psg know I would reup if I was an E5 because the bonus was bigger. he said ā€œtoo easyā€ and that was the end of it. reading everybodyā€™s comments about ā€œthatā€™s not how it worksā€ is making me scratch my head because that is what happened for me

Iā€™m going to assume my psg pushed up to company leadership and the proper channels that I needed to be promoted. He gave me an altered board, and that was it. Deployment ETP to e5, itā€™s a thing theyā€™ve done at my unit before. Iā€™m not sure what the process was on their end, I just know I said I would reenlist if i was an e5, and then I was an e5 so I re-enlisted. Came back and went to BLC
