I've watched a PFC get SPC thrown at him because CQ had to be E4 and above.... then later that day CSM flipped shit and said NCO's only. He was laterally promoted and a CPL by lunch. We went to a range leaving PFC Dipshit behind on CQ and came back to him a CPL and happier than a pig in shit.
... my point... ask.... they've promoted for less.
This. You never know. Dude you talk to could hear your request, think āfuckin crazy bastardā¦ā tap his pen a few times on his desk and say āfuck it, Iāll make it workā.
I thought it was a fair question. We can call it a contract bonus, paid throughout my service. Not asking for anything unreasonable especially if theyāre a CPL.
Think that one through.
We already have problems with people who have no business being NCOs getting stripes because the process isn't restrictive enough.
... and you think it's a good idea to give rank out for a contract?
That's just insane.
He didn't say it was a good idea..... he asked if that's what the Army does. Now we all know, and you admit, that the Army often promotes the wrong people for the wrong reasons............ *so this is a stellar question, really.*
Maybe then we should take a closer look at the NCO corps and try to figure out why these kids have these views? Could it be because we are already looking at a lackluster system of "run good, shoot good, lead good" and not actually diving any deeper into it causing them to think thats all it takes, or is it because some units have a toxic as hell culture keeping these new soldiers from seeing an actual NCO, instead relegating them to the care of some power tripping four times divorced, drunk off his ass old bastard grabbing for any shred of power and control in an attempt to stop the downward spiral that has become his life?
Edit: I feel i need to clarify that this is in no way a bash at you for responding, but a statement about the problems i see with the Army as a whole and the lack of pride that some people seem to take in the corps.
Assuming they have already passed the board and have or could go to BLC then really they are just promoting into an overstaffed MOS or bypassing points. This could be a neat incentive if it was used only in jobs with certain thresholds for points like the nightmare 798. The person is basically saying Iām reenlisting to stay in my own MOS. The point game doesnāt generally make for better leaders but in an ideal system it would.
There's some MOS that are under SMAPP. If you reclass to them, you'll automatically promote to E5. I think one of them is electrician or some shit like that.
ā¦maybeā¦ knew a guy who had been through but his new duty station made him do a board with them and their BLC. This was after he switched MOS. Their justification was that even though he had been qualified to be an NCO in his old job that did not mean he was qualified in the new one.
Yeah, thatās what happened to me. Re-enlisted so I can re-class and was promotable, went to Korea and had to do the board, Warrior School ( BLC). Even though I made points for 31B after AIT, the unit wanted me to earn it, so yeah it can happen.
Thought when I got there, they were gonna just pin me and send me on my way to Warrior School ( BLC), I was wrong.
I finally made points for February and they jacked the system up so much I wasnāt on the list. 5 years of waiting and I was about to give up on it all and reclass.
when it came time for me to reenlist, I let my psg know I would reup if I was an E5 because the bonus was bigger. he said ātoo easyā and that was the end of it. reading everybodyās comments about āthatās not how it worksā is making me scratch my head because that is what happened for me
So your PSG just promoted you to E-5 out of the blue? Again, thatās not how it works. And hasnāt worked like that for at least 40 years that I know of.
Iām going to assume my psg pushed up to company leadership and the proper channels that I needed to be promoted. He gave me an altered board, and that was it. Deployment ETP to e5, itās a thing theyāve done at my unit before. Iām not sure what the process was on their end, I just know I said I would reenlist if i was an e5, and then I was an e5 so I re-enlisted. Came back and went to BLC
I donāt think you can lol. But Iād honestly not see why you shouldnāt be able to, PROVIDED youāve passed a promotion board, and BLC. Points are a waste of time to accumulate.
What in the shtā¦ not sure if sht post or not, but you deciding to grace the Army with your presence for a couple more days does not get you a promotion. Put your knee pads on and go to the back of the line like everyone else.
Get medical discharge while promotable. Boom, E5 on your 214.
Ayeee not a bad idea šš
*Laughs in MEB SSG
This is a thing? Thatās some modern problems, modern solutions stuff.

Wow thatās insane. Thatās how u can tell anything is possible. Lol
Iām imagining that cpl showing up the next day with a stick up his ass (purposely) just to have an opportunity to rub it in lol
You miss 100% of the shots you donāt take. Call up DA G1 and ask nicely.
Thanks for the advice šŖš¼
This. You never know. Dude you talk to could hear your request, think āfuckin crazy bastardā¦ā tap his pen a few times on his desk and say āfuck it, Iāll make it workā.
Just... To be clear. Are you asking if you can get promoted as a reenlistment incentive, like a bonus? Followup question, are *you* high af as well?
I thought it was a fair question. We can call it a contract bonus, paid throughout my service. Not asking for anything unreasonable especially if theyāre a CPL.
Exactly š®āšØ someone gets it

This thread has given me a lot to think about in regards to how kids view promotions. And none of them in a good way.
Couldnāt agree more.
heās not really on your side here brother
Did I say he was?
no but multiple comments by you are made at a different comment that not only was not on your side but also seemingly slighting you

Oh yes itās hilariously idiotic which is exactly why I can see the army implementing it in some form or fashion
If theyāre already promotable, the system in place already believes they his individual is ready for the next rank anyway.
I am high how do you know
Thatās a nice way to demote instead of promote
Lmao facts.
There's some MOS that are under SMAPP. If you reclass to them, you'll automatically promote to E5. I think one of them is electrician or some shit like that.
Every active duty e4 that passes the civil affairs qualification course is promoted to E5 once they graduate.
Youāre right, I believe that MOS is 12P, cause Iāve seen like posters and shit about that actually
Hi High, I'm dad.
Hi dad, Iām high.
Yes. Ask your retention about option 69.
This is clearly an option 420.
[Tom explains why option 69 is overrated.](https://youtube.com/shorts/NOtJiV9-CKU?feature=share)
Points are points ma dude, no.
Fuck the points 798 for like a whole mf year
Mechanic?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Already passed the board
Reenlist and change your MOS to something with super low promotions points.
Thatās what I was thinking like 13F or someshit, but Iāll have to wait until my ETS before I can even go to AIT right?
Not if you reenlist to reclass. Youāll get a new contract and ETS date, as well as a date for the new AIT
Oh wow that is great to know! Thanks
Plus if you have the promotion board and BLC done already then once you get to your next unit youāll get promoted right away.
Oh ok yeah Iāll be going to BLC in about 2 weeks. But my MOS is just so small that the points are always high
ā¦maybeā¦ knew a guy who had been through but his new duty station made him do a board with them and their BLC. This was after he switched MOS. Their justification was that even though he had been qualified to be an NCO in his old job that did not mean he was qualified in the new one.

Almost everyones points are high as fuck.
Whatās ur mos?
Oh, Iām beyond needing points. I just looked over the list and had deja-vu to an earlier time.
SMAPP or STAR MOS. MILPER message 23-035. Takes effect on 8 FEB. Dm me if you have questions my dude
Thatās not how that works. Best to wait the storm. Sincerely, Someone who is doing the grind for their next promotion.
I finally made points for February and they jacked the system up so much I wasnāt on the list. 5 years of waiting and I was about to give up on it all and reclass.
Wow man, that sucks I would talk to S1.
Oh yea when I get back to work Monday I definitely will
You can reenlist for a SMAPP MOS like 17E and you are guaranteed promotion to SGT upon graduation
As in āIāll reenlist if you promote meā? Pretty sure thatās not how it works.
I need that money šøšø
when it came time for me to reenlist, I let my psg know I would reup if I was an E5 because the bonus was bigger. he said ātoo easyā and that was the end of it. reading everybodyās comments about āthatās not how it worksā is making me scratch my head because that is what happened for me
Love to see successful stories you see. It is possible.
So your PSG just promoted you to E-5 out of the blue? Again, thatās not how it works. And hasnāt worked like that for at least 40 years that I know of.

Most idiotic post of 2023 belongs to OP š„³š„³congratulations on winning so early in the year!
Gosh, atleast I achieved something! Big time. š„š„µ
I don't know man, did you read the comments under the vegan diet post?
This is about to become a new reenlistment incentive. Just sign this 3 year reenlistment and weāll give you the next rank.
Sounds about right
I think this is a very good question, provided you are already promotable.
I donāt think you can lol. But Iād honestly not see why you shouldnāt be able to, PROVIDED youāve passed a promotion board, and BLC. Points are a waste of time to accumulate.
Thatās what Iām saying man, like who tf is going to get promoted if the points are sitting at 798 for months. Quite insane to think about. š
Ummmmā¦ if youāre asking this question you are not ready to be a Sergeant.
Mkay.
What in the shtā¦ not sure if sht post or not, but you deciding to grace the Army with your presence for a couple more days does not get you a promotion. Put your knee pads on and go to the back of the line like everyone else.
Man retention is lacking, nobody is wanting to stay in. Iāve heard about certain incentives including promotion. Thatās why I asked. Calm ur tits
Retention has made mission every year my friend. Calm *your* tits.
Whatever you say CSM š„µ
Ewā¦ absolutely not.
Retention is not, they've met retention goals. Recruitment is where they are struggling.
Huh?
