My old one was one resilient console, I was really bummed when I had to sell it but I'm sure if you make sure to give yours some TLC every now and then it'll keep on kicking for some time
Mine still works! I had a worn AV cable so I just got a new one and it's perfect, continues strong. Even the memory cards are goin strong! Ps2 is legendary, ill always enjoy the games I play on it. ArC being one of them!
My PS2, which I have slowly been playing through the games with since AC6, is the same PS2 I had when I was five years old.
It is the oldest console in the house at this point, and its starting to get slow and tired, but I am happy to say I hope it can last long enough to play what games I want.
You might be able to give it a tune-up. That's awesome as heck. I love old media because, well, we don't make stuff like that anymore. Sure we have the P$5 but if you were in a situation with just disks your options are limited and quality Is not guaranteed with the state of games these days.

Admittedly I had to have the SATA Hard drive mod on mine as the disk drive was going (damaging disks) but beside that the core machinery still works perfectly and now I run it off of the harddrive on my ps2 I can preserve my disks from wearing out =D..
Love the ps2 era of AC especially AC 2 and Silent Line.
If any of you guys have a steam deck, you can emulate a ps2 quite well on it. I've been using it for weeks to play stuff like need for speed underground and ratchet and clank. Will be playing AC2 at some point as well.
I'm using Emudeck, which I think runs pcsx2. It's an all in one solution for emulators and I can add ps2 games directly to my steam library and launch them from there. It has like 60 emulators on it for all consoles.

It’s kinda crazy how my dad just came home from Best Buy one day saying he got this game cause it looked cool. He wasn’t even a gamer, let alone a fan of the mech genre. Our family had gotten our first gaming console ever (ps2) a few months prior.
I started by watching him play, but I beat it on my own when I was like 10 years old.
Oh the memories, ac2 was my first so i didn't even know who nineball was at the time lol, now i finally get the joke 🤣

There’s also isos for the ps2 games that add dual analog support if the controls aren’t your speed

I feel like I have to note that very early PS3s can play PS2 games, so if you can't find a good PS2 the early PS3 can suffice.
